Meat Feast pizza - hold the meat!

Hi chaps, not a great deal to offer you today. Will have Lady Sif coming in next week so I'll do a mid-week update with shots of her for you.

Marvel want some changes to Sebastian Shaw - so we are having to do some work on beefing him up a bit. hopefully have shots next week.

Nick Abadzis' wierd and wacky wraparound design for the MODOK special (should be stunning when it's fully rendered... (love the little AIM men scampering around makes me wanna do an AIM figurine!

Owl first look...

Myself and Rich think overall the body/pose is good, but his face/hair isn't quite doing it, so it's gone back for amendments. Needs to look slightly bulkier in the face with more defined 'owl-like' hair. (he's had lots of facial looks over the years and it's been hard to get a good composite.

I'd be happier if he looked a little more like this...

With hair maybe like this...

We await the sculptors changes.

Still awaiting the Forum polls (yes I will honour the top 3 choices!)

Competition will have to wait just that li'l bit longer :)

Have a weekend. Dan

Oh, John...I feel bad now, man...I didn't mean to shoot your fave down...I actually want him too, I even voted for him in the double pack poll...
I just don't think Dan should risk his job that way....but I do hope his bosses change their mind about him, or we can get him along with Groot in a double pack.
Sorry, I hope we are still buds!

It does seem like a no-brainer when you consider the number of international buyers there must be for the collection.

Look out for me on Dragons Den!

'So, you want to buy 300 spiderman figures and sell them to an American called Travis? I'm out.'

The Mad Thinker said...

Laway :

You are getting it wrong dude.
Eaglemoss do sell back issues , they are available to purchase from the main site but they aren't accepting debit cards that's all.
As for subscribing - I used to be a subscriber but cancelled due to receiving too many damaged figurines and that's why I have a gap.
I now buy them from my local comic shop.
I have bought all of the collection apart from the Iron man special and balder as i don't like them. The iron man movie figurine was a waste of a special slot and Balder is not for me. The only Asgardians I want are Thor , Loki , Enchantress , Executioner , the warriors three , and lady Sif.

Kal Brindle said...

The Forum Choice Poll closes tonight, which means we're about to find out who the next three character choices are for this extension. Which brings us one step closer to the Competition.

I still haven't decided who I'm choosing. LOL

mtravis390 said...

Balder was a great figurine. If it was meant for the Lord of the Rings collection. He really looks out of place in the CMFC. But that was the costume that people voted for.
I wonder if Sif is going to look like she belongs in the LoTR collection as well?

LAWay said...

Weird the site doesnt allow visa cards. Surely they should of solved that problem, i'd imagine it has been flagged up numerous times to them.

With the football transfer deadline day upon us, if you could only choose 1, which character would you choose to redo?

Ok, I know almost nobody is going to agree...but I'd redo Dazzler...I'd like her in her 80s X-men look.

Mystique redo, but as I recall that was Marvel choice not EM's choice to do the black costume.

But please give us white costume Mystique.

On the issue on back issues,I would like EM to make it easier to get hold of.I have a few missing that I would like to order.

Captain Britain in his original costume.

Robert said...

I nearly said that, Bagman F.F.F. However, while I'd prefer the original Cap, I understand why Eaglemoss made the modern version. The modern version has been around much longer and it's internationally recognisable in a way the original isn't. In contrast, the decision to make the modern Drax is just dumb as a bag of spanners.

Guys regarding back issues - try calling Eaglemoss direct, if you dont mind the price of the call (south african call centre), you can get any back issue you need - as long as its in stock.

mtravis390 said...

Not in the US. Tried that myself when I was missing a few figurines.

For some reason EM cannot or will not deal with US costumers directly. I think it has something to do with the most evil company on the planet. Diamond.

Bagman said...

Robert, just a thought how would you feel about a HTD, Rocket Racoon and Pip The Troll triple pack?

jimbob said...

I hate calling the centre,it takes 5 minutes for them to do each figurine.

Re-do Sabertooth
Re-do Cable
Re-do Doctor Octupus
Re-do Lady Deathstrike

And EM could do 4 or 5 different Hulk specials.

Robert said...

Bagman F.F.F., if it gets me Pip, I'd buy a triple pack that had Pip, Maggie Thatcher and Gene Colan.

CGJ said...

I would think what a waste of effort Bagman!

Now, 90 minutes to go on the poll, have not voted, nor have I been to the forum to soak up the vibe, so I am going to stick my neck out and have a guess as to who will be announced.

Silver Samurai
High Evolutionary
Whirlwind

Any takers?

mtravis390 said...

High Evolutionary

I wish. But it will never happen since he is in my top 3.

TGR said...

back issues: I e-mailed EM today and got a reply from Emma that they would look into the Visa card problem.

Travis, i'm looking at setting something up that will make it easier for specific collectors to get back issues without having to go via ebay (and the rip off charges you find on there). there's nothing i can do about actual postage costs but it might just work. How much does a standard figure cost you at Diamond?

Poll results should be out shortly after midnight.

I'm interested to see what you think the top 3 will be.

Dan, please keep in mind though, a lot of people missed your humor and thought you'd actually be risking your job. ...not simply answering if they'd LIKE Rocket Raccoon or not. :D

Diamond is charging $14.00 for a regular figurine in the US. They jacked up their prices a few months ago from $12 eventhough everyone else is paying the same amount for this collection since it was released.

I know there are several Canadian and US collectors that are missing characters that this would help out.

I'm ecstatic that Stingray is finally in!!! I voted for him.

I'm not too keen on Shaman and Wolfsbane, and if I have to be honest I find them a bit boring.
But hey, I don't mean to rain on their fans'parade. Happy for you who wanted and voted for them.

Clearly the forum poll works very well, as each collector will be happy with at least one of the three figs. Me, I'm very happy with Stingray.

Diamond is charging $14.00 for a regular figurine in the US.

i make that £8.60
cost from EM is £6.98 so we need to see if we can get postage / packing for less than £1.62 per fig. and that is unlikely. 700g package costs about £5.50 to the States :-(

mighty_marvel said...

i'm happy with the three forum choices and to be fair i have to say i'd be happy to have most of the characters who came near the top of the polls, except for white tiger. really don't understand the love for him. his costume is pretty boring imo, and comicvine says he has less than 70 appearances and has only 25ish lines of info on him, so he doesn't seem to be a particularly important character. i guess you had to be around to read his books in the 70s to get the appeal.

really happy corsair has moved considerably up the poll. surely northstar and aurora have got the double pack so we can finally get round to starting the starjammers in the next extension because the original alpha flight line-up will be complete.

wonder if its too early to start posting 201 - 220 lists? ;)

mtravis390 said...

700g package costs about £5.50 to the States :-(

Wow. That is almost as one figurine. I forgot what Forbidden Planet charged me when I ordered from their UK store, but I didn't think it was that much. But it could have been.

I wonder if EM could get a postal discount? I know my company get a discount for shipping packages overseas. But we ship documents, so that might make a difference.

SinisterVenom said...

So those are the top 3, none of mine this time but never mind, 3 great choices and I'm happy for the fans.
Shaman was inevitable I guess. He is a great choice but I hope this will not delay Northstar and Aurora now?
Stingray I believe will make an outstanding figurine. I shall keep my eyes peeled for him.
Wolfsbane was an obvious choice, though this will mean 2 wolves in the extension now, plus Man-Wolf released ages ago makes 3 wolves in the collection now. Please don't make them all look the same of similar EM.
Now I believe all that is left is the competition. Bring it on!

Kal Brindle said...

I am over the moon with this top three. After kicking off at Dan the way I did over Shaman, I am feeling pretty foolish right about now. However the elation I am feeling about his inclusion far dispels the bad stuff. Woo Hoo! Alpha Flight is almost complete.

As much as I'd like to see Marrina, Vindicator, Talisman, Diamond Lil, Box, Madison Jeffries and Wild Child make the collection - once the Northstar & Aurora two pack make it through - I can wait an extension or so. Maybe. LOL

Stingray - what an awesome choice. I am beyond happy that he made it in too - and will look amazing I am guessing. Don't skimp on the lead on this one EM.

Wolfsbane - not my first choice by a long shot, but I am very happy for all her fans, plus getting her out of the way clears the decks for other X-Folk I prefer to make it in next time. Characters like Warlock, Karma, Rictor, Dust, Shatterstar, Anole, M, Skin & Layla Miller or awesome X Villains like Lorelei, Mastermind, Arcade and though it's a bit of astretch as an X-villain Count Nefaria.

All in all this has been a great day for your struly. Thansk to everyone involved witht he Forum Choice and thanks to Eaglemoss for letting us, the fans, choose three characters once again.

John said...

My only request for Stingray is that EM keeps his cape down. I've seen some other sculpts with it up and all dramatic looking... looking great, but impossible to place anything behind. Bat-Woman on the DC side has the exact same problem. I love the sculpt, I want it at the front of the shelf, but I have to stick her on the side or at the back or I lose everything behind her...

Thor8 said...

Wow! Stingray made it into this extension,I couldn't be happier. I know he'll make one heck of a figurine, and White Tiger, another of my top five came up just one vote shy of being in the top five of this poll. This really amazes and surprised me. USAgent is tied in tenth place in the top ten, cool.

Shaman is also in.I didn't include him in my last top five pick cause I had a very strong gut feeling he was going to make it in.

Wolfbane; Not one I'm too interested in,but I'm happy for her fans.

Well her's waiting for the comp. rules.

Shocking! Not!! Not a single villain in the top three. If you remember the remaining top three in the prior vote was WOLFSBANE, SILVER SAMURAI & SHAMAN. Not much difference accept STINGRAY moved into the top three knocking the only villain into fourth place. WHIRLWIND was way down at number 11 with 24 votes tied with Xspot.

Good to see the new announced 3... Lets hope the next poll (if there is one) allows EM to have voting open to everyone!!!

What a joke!

Sage said...

Great mix of characters and it's nice to see another female get in this extension.

1 Alpha flight Hero
1 Avengers Hero
1 X-MEN hero

A good result.

SAGE becoming the leading and most wanted X-MEN hero left now is great and hopefully well see her next extension if there is one.

LAWay said...

Ah, none that I voted for in the top 3, but I did get lucky last time with Arachne making the cut.

Not to fussed really. I do like Stingray's design and Wolfsbane was a good character when I was reading x-factor. Don't see all the fuss for Shaman, but I guess people like completing teams and enough people went crazy when he wasn't announced.

A diverse selection. I wouldnt say exciting, but of course i'll say that with all of my 5 missing out. ^_^

(how could the top 2 be announced but you didnt know who the 3rd was? Surely you have to complete the count before announcing?)

CGJ said...

Stingray is a nice pull, but didn't Dan say Shaman and Wolfsbane were confirmed for the next extension anyway?

Seems rather impatient seeing as how it would only mean waiting another month in real terms.

Now Alpha Flight are out of the way we can concentrate on getting many of the villains who are crying out for a place

mgf said...

Not bad, and frankly a nice surprise. I got two of my votes in the top three and all five in the top ten, so the next extension should bring further good news.

dallen238 said...

I'm happy with stingray but thats 2 more x characters in this extension which we knew would happen,i realy think the forum vote should be done at the start of the next extension so it can be more ballanced for the rest of us who are sick of so many x characters.

kissynose said...

Sad that 61 is the most votes. Shows that the Internet is a poor representation of the actual people who support the collection. I hope EM keeps that in mind when selecting the next extension figures. I think this extension reflects the interneta choices not the buyers as a whole.

CGJ said...

Roughly totting up the number of votes cast there (and assuming that each person is only getting to put 5 votes in), there were 200+ votes cast which for this collection is not a bad representation.

That the top three only got 25% of the voters casting for them says two things

1) there is a huge scope for further characters so further extensions should be a given

2) People probably will not agree as to what those characters should be

CGJ said...

200+ individual voters

TGR said...

it's actually better than that CGJ

311 voters
from 26 different countries; approximately 1/3 were UK votes with USA/FRANCE/POLAND/ SPAIN/CANADA/ITALY taking a sizeable chunk of the balance.

303 different MU characters were named!!! (that is some spread)
All in all I think more people will be happy with the outcome than disappointed.

tinodragon14 said...

Sigh no villains but SHAMAN rounds out the original ALPHA FLIGHT & STINGRAY should make a striking figure just as he made a striking Bowen bust which I bought. WOLFSBANE never interested me & looking at her costume choices she is not that great looking a character.
They are already running a poll for the next extension which as I plead with the powers that be at EM to do another & another & another....
Anyway my 12 were of course all villains :
ATTUMA
BARON MORDO
BLIZZARD
THE COBRA
CONSTRICTOR
THE MELTER
THE MOLTEN MAN
MR. FEAR
MR. HYDE
THE SCARECROW
STILT-MAN
WHIRLWIND
Had to leave out BARON BLOOD, DIABLO, THE LIVING LASER, TOMBSTONE, STEGRON, UNICORN & I think GREY GARGOYLE, SILVER SAMURAI & THE HIGH EVOLUTIONARY already have strong support.
If I had to pick just heroes that 12 would be :
AIR-WALKER
CORSAIR
FANDRAL
HEIMDALL
HOGUN
MANTIS
MARRINA
MARTINEX
RAZA
STAR-LORD
SUNSPOT
YONDU
Not really a lot of big name heroes left compared to the numerous overlooked villains.

mighty_marvel said...

i really think the forum vote should be done at the start of the next extension so it can be more balanced

totally agree. have been asking for it to be done this way for ages. it makes sense for EM to know what the forum is putting through in advance so they can arrange their choices around it.

Sad that 61 is the most votes. Shows that the Internet is a poor representation of the actual people who support the collection. I hope EM keeps that in mind when selecting the next extension figures. I think this extension reflects the interneta choices not the buyers as a whole.

at this point in the collection you're not going to get a runaway winner. everyone wants something different and this is shown in the forum poll results. personally i think the forum is a good representation of collectors as a whole and results will likely be reasonably accurate when extrapolated out to all collectors. and EM has never just chosen characters from the top of the polls when choosing extensions. they have always mixed up most wanted from the poll with more obscure characters to keep us all interested.

mtravis390 said...

I think the only reason why Shaman won the vote as because Dan pulled him from the line up. If Dan would not have even mentioned him then I don't believe he would have done as well, and that Silver Samurai would have made the top 3.
But announcing Shaman then pulling him not only angered alot of fans, but got them to vote for him so he would be made.

If I was a conspiracy nut then I would think..............
Well I am a conspiracy nut, but I'll stop myself right now.

There is still one more Alpha Flight member to be made. Well two actually. Marrina and Heather Hudson as Vindicator. I'd like her in the green costume please.

mighty_marvel said...

as long as n + a get the double pack the original line-up is done. that's enough for now. starjammers or morlocks should be started in the next extension.

jimbob said...

"Sad that 61 is the most votes. Shows that the Internet is a poor representation of the actual people who support the collection."

I thought it showed that the votes are more spread out now. Most of the well known character are confirmed. So there are no obvious favourites in this collection now

"but didn't Dan say Shaman and Wolfsbane were confirmed for the next extension anyway?"

Well from the past events you should know that nothing is certain with Dan.;-)lol

Any chance you can list the 26 countries that the votes came from?
I know its a strange request, but i'm curious as to which corners of the world our little collection reaches. ta.

Here: PORTUGAL

LAWay said...

I agree with Bagman, that would be interesting.

You noted the UK votes amounted to a 1/3 of the overall vote, so would like to know the other percentages. I would have imagined the USA would have been also a huge notably chunk due to the population and fanbase. Comics are also more popular in the US, so imagine they would have 1/3, if not more surely?

If the stuff about Shaman and wolfsbane were already lined up in the future, then at least EM can look on the list at the next favourites and use them to fill their places.

It could be down to the likes of these voters that we got poor costume choices for some characters !!
Robert , I'd like your opinion on this.

TGR said...

voters from countries where the collection is not generally available are usually the ones getting ripped off on eBay :-(

They are as enthusiastic a collector as anyone on here - more so if you think that they have probably paid 4 times what we have for the collection.

mighty_marvel said...

they might not be able to get it through EM but i'm sure that all these people can get the collection through other means.

and costume choice is a matter of opinion. what you think is a poor choice, plenty of others will think is a great choice.

People could have moved the another country, but have family buy it for them. Who knows.

I am surprised UK voters double that of the US.

1-Silver Samurai
2-Sage
3-White Tigor
4-Grey Gargoyle
5-Star-Lord
6-Warlock
7-Sunspot
8-Whirlwind
9-US Agent

19-Brother Voodoo
20-Tombstone

Fairly balanced and diverse. Wouldnt be my favourite, but there are some personal gold nuggets in there that I would be really happy with.

mighty_marvel said...

EM never just go for the next top 20. no point in giving us everything we want in one go. whats to keep us coming back? and that list will change considerably in the 201 - 220 request poll as people are less likely to use strategic voting. will give a more accurate view of what people really want.

LAWay said...

May be just richer, not more enthusiastic. ;)

mtravis390 said...

I was buying this collection before it hit the US off Ebay. Just a figurine here and there since they could go for $30.

I wish I would have known EM was going to start the collection here. It would have saved me some money, but at the time everyone said this was a UK only collection.

Still if I wouldn't have started as early as I did I would never have gotten the red rooftop Spiderman, or the Red Phoenix and blue Angel.

I'm still not happy that the UK and France got exclusive figurines.
We would like an all white Vision figurine that is a US exclusive.
That was from a poll I ran on the old forum. So when can we expect to see him Dan? ;)

LAWay said...

lol - no offence, but doesnt really matter if another country 'wants' an exclusive. If people are saying subscribers can't have something, or UK cant have something, then its hypocritical saying its ok for the US to get 1.

I think when France had those 'exclusives' it caused too much outrage. Doubt EM will go down that route again.

mtravis390 said...

UK buyers could buy a US exclusive off Ebay. Or find a US company that ships overseas. That is what I did with all the exclusives.

I never did understand why Forbidden Planet got two exclusive characters from this collection. The France thing was another one I never understood either. What was even stranger was that the France exclusive did not come with a magazine. It was kinda like EM had to many left over Quicksilvers so they painted some of them green to get rid of them.

I think your are right LAWay. I remember alot of people were quite upset about the green Quicksilver, so I doubt we will see any other exclusives.
I don't remember anyone complaining about the Forbidden Planet exclusives though.

Well it was a UK product with those items widely available in the UK and subscribers were able to buy them if they wanted (was optional at the time). I dont think they were really 'forbidden planet exclusives', its just forbidden planet were the only ones selling the things in the early days. Cant call it exclusive if its offered to subscribers, which really, if exclusives are available, subscribers should get the option of buying them anyway.

Thing is, I dont think anyone really wanted them. Marvel Legends used to do the same with repaints and thats probably where the idea came from, but people would just paint them if they wanted different colours. If EM ever plan on doing different costumes again, it HAS to be a new sculpt, repaints just wont cut it.

Osvaldoeaf said...

It saddens me thant some people think that because I live somewhere else I cant' cast a vote for my favorites. I go out of my way and spent more money than I should to have both collections...I'm still an EM costumer...

Thor8 said...

Personally I wasn't upset at all with the exclusives made in the early stages of this collection.First of all because when I finally discovered this collection existence,it was already entering it's third year and most of the variants were already done.Second of all the only difference between the regulars and the variants was a color change,so no big deal. You wanted a variant all you had to do was get another regular and repaint it and "wallah" you now had your variant. The free Spidey give away was the only true variant exclusive since he was cast in a different pose as the black costume special. I have even made some variants myself. I took an extra Punisher I had, sanded off the laces on his boots, and the wrinkles on his pants, painted long black sleeves and white gloves and boots with a high neck shirt and ...instant classic Punisher. You want classic Mystique get an extra Blink sand of the tips of her pointed ears, collar and boots, color change and there you have her.I also changed the red Angel to his original blue costume, and had made a Mar-Vell figurine with an extra Captain Marvel I had way before Mar-Vell was approved. What would I consider a real variant? An Archangel figurine,a battle armor Thor,an original costume Captain Britain,a Bucky figurine etc. Now those are variants my friends!

mtravis390 said...

That's great for people who can customize their own figurines, but one of the appeals of this collection was I didn't have to paint them like I did with my D&D figurines. I lost partial use of my right arm and it takes alot just to write my name now. There is no way I could repaint a figurine now.

I really don't want any more variants in the collections. Just thought it was funny that France got an exclusive when I can guarantee that there are more US customers buying this collection. So when the green Quicksilver came out I ran my own poll and tried to find out if people in the US and Canada wanted their own exclusive variant and who it should be.
I was surprised that it was Vision in all white.

Plus I saw the variants as a reward for collectors. Well what is my reward for having to deal with Diamond who made this collection almost impossible to collect for the first 2 years, and who will not carry plinths and binders eventhough there are people here in North America that want them.

Just thought EM might want to show a way to thank all the North American fans who have had to jump through hoops to support and get this collection. I guess not.

That's OK. I've been married for 17 years so I'm used to being taken for granted. ;)

Thor8 said...

mtravis390: Sorry to hear about your right arm,and I know what your saying about getting this collection outside the UK. I live in Puerto Rico and It not easy to come by these figurines here either. Comics here are still quite a big thing, but many comics shops have closed down because of the economy and those still open carry a very limited amount of these figurines. I have been lucky though that I have come across a couple of sellers on e-bay from whom I have purchased figurines for as low as $5.00 and flat rates on shipping when you purchase multiple figurines in one order. This has saved me quite a sum in this collection.

mtravis390 said...

When there's a will there is a way.
I wonder if EM is even interested in hearing stories like ours?
There are not many people who would find anyway possible to get this collection.

Thor8 said...

You bet. I went through a lot of grief in order to finally get my hands on a Hellcat figurine which I missed out on when it was first available. Finally got it a couple of weeks ago with 7 other figurines I needed. Still have to get Beta Ray Bill,Prowler and Cannonball, but the seller I mentioned before has reserved them for me at only (.50 each, although she doesn't have Scarlet Spider whom I'm still hoping my local comic supplier will be able to get it for me.

LAWay said...

Again, no way will you, or should you get an exclusive. Sorry. Maybe have a say in a character to be ADDED to the collection, but not an exclusive.

Its like UK fans demanding we get a UK exclusive figurine that diamond is not allowed to distribute. What is the point? The forum poll shows UK double the US members. It is a UK product. Any other country exclusive is ridiculous.

All for others voting in a character, but not having their own that we cant get. If the UK didnt buy these things in the first place the collection wouldnt exist.

Much like the tested chess sets in france or italy or wherever are failing, they may never see the light of day anywhere. That could have been the CMFC. And had the collection started in the US instead of the UK, I dont think the yanks would be too happy of a UK exclusive figurine.

Thor8 said...

Oops before you faint from reading the price on my previous comment,it should read 9.50 each, sorry about that.

Thor8 said...

LAWay; Way back when,at a time Toy Biz was aborning, the first Secret Wars action figures were made and Europe got some exclusive figures that were not available in the USA,even though this was a USA product, made by a USA company. You are probably not aware of this since you most likely were still in Pampers at that time,if you were around at all. These included Electro and Ice Man and there was even a Constrictor figure exclusive for Mexico.

So what do you say about that.

Thor8 said...

Some say Constrictor was exclusive for Mexico others say it was distributed in France, either way it wasn't available in the USA.

mtravis390 said...

I was almost ready to get your source for figurines when I saw your post Thor.

Secret Wars Constrictor was exclusive in Spain.

It's not uncommon for a company to offer exclusives in different countries but their own. It's a way to boost sales and get new people interested in the collection.

Thor8 said...

Well now I'm confused, there are two Constrictor figurine available for auction right now on E-bay,on estates it was exclusive in Mexico and the other says and shows printing on the package stating it was made for France. Hmmm,Spain huh?I wonder which is correct,or if all three are true?!!

mtravis390 said...

As far as I know Constrictor, Electro, and Iceman were European Releases only.

The Heroes Gift Set (which was a US set) is the only Secret Wars product to feature these characters on the packaging.
Not even the Constrictor, Electro, and Iceman packaging referred to them as being available.

I'll give you a start
ATLANTIS
LEMURIA
THULE
CIMMERIA
GONDAWANALAND
please feel free to add to the list.... :)

Here in Canada I was having friends and family int he UK and Ireland buy them for me and then shipping them over. Eventually they were released here through Diamond, but we pay a premium though. Bear in mind right now the Canadian Dollar is stronger than the US dollar - and I still pay $16.99 for each figure (which is $2.00 more than figs in the USA) and a heck of a lot more for specials.

I am pleased my LCS carries now them and I no longer have to drive all over the bloody country to find them, which I had to do initially.

Ironically best selling figs at my LCS - Jocasta, Thor, Guardian.

Now bring us Sunspot!!

JulianoCPereira said...

@MadThinker & Bagman

I partially agree when you say that the collection was made by UK to UK customers...

However, if you consider a forum poll a percentage representation of real customers, you will see that 2/3 of customers aren't from UK. This means that, no matter where they live or if the collection is produced locally or not, their ideais, votes and comments should be consider my, if not by you both, but certainly by EM, since 2/3 of production is to offshore people...

If the poll doesn't represnte the real world, so UK customers should me more engaged on the forum and make their voices heard above the others...

Anyway, i don't think this discussion is going to other direction than near discrimination aspect.

As we can see in MU, we have characters from every corner of the Universe and this is excelent. Or you think CMFC should produce only UK heroes and villains since the collection is produce in UK?

So, let's put this aside and think about next extensions. Btw, i'm Brazilian living in Brazil :)

Bagman said...

@JulianoCPereira

Yes I know that some people will buy from ebay and may not live in this country , but what I am trying to get at is that I could quite easily make up some false addresses from around the world and set up multiple accounts so that it looks like I am different people and I could then vote for the same characters over and over again to cheat in order for my characters to get through.

@Mad Thinker & Pirate Adam

Now i got you said, MadThinker. Yes, I agree with you based on that.

And, if i'm not wrong, i can easilly hide my original IP, Pirate Adam.

Take my case in exemple. I live in Brazil working in a multinational IT company. So, my IP is from Brazil, right?

However, in some cases, i need to connect a VPN in the USA, India, Philipines or UK (for certain types of system access needed). Doing that, my IP is replaced for a local one.

It this cases, if I weren't honest, i could effectively create another free global e-mail account as Mad Thinker said and post another vote on the forum....

I know, it's too much work for just a magazine and a figurine vote.... but should work.

Can some admin validate my information, pls?

Anyway, I'm not sure how can identify and punish cases like that...

Osvaldoeaf said...

Juliano,

I'm don't know much about computer stuff, but the mods in the forum seem pretty confident that they can spot the cheaters...and I prefer trusting them, even when the biggest cheater this year was trying to put my favorite character in :-)

Hey, Guilherme, nice to see a fellow Brazuca in here!!!

Kal Brindle said...

@ The Mad Thinker,

Pirate Adam is 100% correct. You can attempt to set up other accounts through different international servers, but ultimately the trail leads back to the individual computer the accout was set up on.

To make it work you would have to go to those other countries and phyically log on to a computer there, which would be rather expensive LOL.

Some people have tried to cheat by using other computers, but if we get a cluster of votes from the same geographic area all with the same list of characters that sticks out like a sore thumb and we ask those new members to verify who they are. IF they do not respond or we discover dummy e-mail accounts then those votes are edited as discounted.

It's really time consuming but as we feel very much under a microscope, we do it to ensure as honest a poll as possible.

You might find it interesting to note though that the guys doing the tallying and checking where each vote originated from were in the UK, France, Canada and the USA. We truly are an international team.

LAWay said...

@Thor8 you are comparing an old toy line by a global company that ships products worldwide, who then repackage all figures differently to resell the same thing.

Hasbro used to have a GI Joe fanclub that offered exclusive figures if you signed up. Only available to US residents. Marvel had/have competitions in their comics, but only US residents could/can apply. Marvel Legends toy line had a vote on their website for a web exclusive figure, which was only available for US residents to purchase.

EM is a UK company. CMFC is a subscription product in the UK. Not a massive global company, and not a massive global product. HUGE differences between products.

LAWay said...

@JulianoCPereira

While 2/3 of the forum votes are not from the UK, this does not represent that 2/3 of the sales come from abroad. It means 2/3 of people of a forum on the internet do not come from the UK.

We have no idea how much people buy so we have no real idea of the 'real world' customers of the CMFC.

And theres no discrimination here. The comment was other countries shouldnt get an exclusive figurine. I have said before I dont mind others getting to vote a character in to bring more fans involved. But the number of people voting in a forum does not reflect sales, so people can't make such an assumption.

Archangelsr said...

The votes are run through the ip checker then against sevral other checks like email accounts and where they originate from the source of your internet conection. The time you take to post up your entrants etc.

Trust me i used to have to check enough of these. There are more and more ways and im sure theres some more been put inplace to make it even harder to cheat.

Sure Grim can give a more intricate explanation but its not as easy as youd think to cheat and as pointed out a lot more hassle than what its worth in the long run.

I had hoped for some more random characters in as if we are honest these 3 were going to show up in the next extension no matter what.
Still stingray will be a fine addition to the collection.

It could be down to the likes of these voters that we got poor costume choices for some characters !!"

pirate adam said...

i actually know why we got poor costume choices for some characters and being the good sole that i am, i will share it with you all

because.....thats the costumes that EM chose

whether it was there own choice from the start or if they decided to go with a costume poll choice or even if they asked for a poll and decided to go there own way in the end...cough...Gamora....cough, at the end of the day EM have the final say and have ultimately chosen every costume on every character (comp winners aside) even if its wrong cough....Drax....cough or controversial cough....Balder....cough

and i happen to really like the black Mystique costume and the Balder we got

now i'm off to get some cough medicine :)

Agree with you. Noticed that I said "if you consider...". You're rigth... We cannot consider 330, or 3300 forum users a "real word" representation... This is just a assumption... Poor one, I admit, but my theory should start from some place :)

Anyway, I'm not sure about the historical data, but certanly, the forum spark some ideas on EM to try another markets/countries.

And since UK is the original (i mean, if a figurine is produced in UK later will be produced in any other place, right?) I think this forum belongs to all collectors across the world. Someday, the decisions took here will be replicated locally in other countries.

Panini in Brazil, for instance, bought the right to produce the colection locally. So, figurine #1 Spiderman is just arriving at the newstand while we're discussing Wolfsbane (#198) at the forum :P

In certain point, depends of the sells, i know, in 3+E43 years we'll have Wolfsbane here also, lol :)

So, IMHO, make sense to me every collector in the planet cast his/her vote...

(i'm really enjoyng this discussion :))

Regarding exclusive figurines, I don't have a strong opinion yet...

Osvaldoeaf, thanks for your clarification! You're the Man!

This week's
Virtual CMFC Gallery update
features a cosmic bonanza of

HERALDS OF GALACTUS special

I hope you'll agree that:

Stardust is one of the most unique and outlandish Marvel creations of the last decade.

Fallen One makes a surprisingly awesome figurine, thanks to its sculptoreal blue body and imposing comet-like trail.

Red Shift has potential to make a really cool fig, complete with his two swords & distinctive helmet.

Morg makes an impressive fig with his axe, medieval-cosmic design and overall fierce look.

We have Silver Surfer and Firelord.
And we know Nova and Airwalker are the two next most popular heralds.
Now check these other four heralds in the Virtual CMFC Gallery.
You know you want them! ;)

Anonymous said...

Well, actually Terrax is probably the most wanted next herald of Galactus. But he'd be a special, and is already in my Vitual CMFC Gallery. With this week's update, I wanted to show that the other heralds are awesome too, even the less known Red Shift and Fallen One, imo. I'd love to see them in the collection.

LAWay said...

@ JulianoCPereira Oh I agree everyone, no matter which country, are entitled to a say. As far as I am concerned, if they collection the collection, then they should be involved.

I dont think we should have country specific exclusives as that would cause a divide between collectors, especially in the UK which is the bread and butter of EM, because without the subscribers, the collection wouldn't exist. (Dan's own words - and probably the reason why the chess sets and batmobile collections havent taken off due to lack of subscription numbers).

Verdict on the poll winners: worthy but a tad dull.

While respecting the "will of the people", it would've been great to see a couple of off-the-wall choices make it through.

At least it clears the way (as a couple of other bloggers have remarked), for some left-field inclusions in the much-trailed 201-220 extension...

LAWay said...

Should play a game.

'As voted by...'

You list where you come from and 3 characters you want. UK subscribers have an extra 3 votes. Then we count them up and the top character voted from each region will have their fantasy figure.

e.g. US Agent- as voted by US fan poll

Constrictor - as voted by subscribers

I am from the UK. My UK votes go to:

Constrictor
Patriot
US Agent

My Subscriber vote goes to
Silver Samurai
Cross Bones
Pennance

(I am bored...just sparking up a game. Will calculate votes on Sunday, unless we get an update by then.)

mtravis390 said...

A little bummed there was no new blog post. What will I have to complain about now?

Like your game idea LAWay. Not to sure why subscribers get more votes. I'd subscribe if I could. Does that count?

I'm from the US and my top three choices are.....

The Beyonder
The High Evolutionary
Molecule Man

Who here thought we would reach 200 issues and not have High Evolutionary in the collection. I mean really he should have been made in the first 100. It's a crying shame that EM has refused tom make this character. He is the biggest omission in the entire collection.

John said...

The Request Poll just launched on the Forum for the next extension. So far I'm at;

Brother Voodoo
Fixer
Ghost
Howard the Duck
Jackal
Maximus the Mad
Namora
Phyla-Vell
Psycho-Man
Rocket Raccoon
Star-Lord
Tombstone
Vindicator

But I may change a few around. Howard and Rocket have been discussed heavily as Specials, but still, EM needs to see that they have support. So if you want them at all, make sure you vote for them in the Request Poll.

I'm not THAT big on Howard, but he's beyond worthy of a figurine and I recognize that.

Rocket, however, is my favorite character not made yet, so he was the first one on my list. Every vote for him will make me EXTREMELY happy.

Vindicator is the next Alpha Flight member I want to see. One of my favorite characters, but I fear votes will be split between her and Marrina now, and neither will show as much. ...Alpha Flight can take a break next extension since we have so many already, I just don't want them to fall off the radar completely so I'll likely throw out a vote just to keep them in memory and appear in the 121-140. ;)

Psycho-Man has so much competition as all other FF characters are about equal in requests, that this vote is likely to be useless. But he has such an amazing look, I had to vote for him. Or I likely will anyway...

The biggest mystery for me is Shaman. How this character proved more popular and more voted than all the other amazing characters to vote for. Maybe it's because I'm not an Alpha Flight fan, but I don't get it. I'd love to ask voters what they see in him. I may be wrong, but I think it unlikely that Marvel fans who are not CMFC collectors would name Shaman as one of their favorite heroes. It's interesting that he became such a success among CMFC fans, or at least among forum poll voters.

LAWay said...

Because everyone on the forum felt cheated that he wasnt named before when it was hinted that he was included, so a lot of them made a pact to make sure he got in.

Of course, they officially didnt do this and its just coincidental that a lot of members voted for several of the same characters.

Could purely be down to people who want to complete Alpha Flight. You see a lot of impatient collectors who want teams finished ASAP to the point where they want subsets and multipacks just for completing the teams they like.

LAWay said...

btw, i have no facts on how they voted and it is just a load of BS that I have just made up.

But just look at who voted for what yourselves.

SinisterVenom said...

BLAKENEWMAN2002, I'm gonna guess Shaman was highly popular due to the collectors wanting to completing Alpha Flight, I know not everyone will see it as complete yet though, not until they get characters like Vindicator for example.
It's my theory anyway. I mean look at Avalanche in the last poll. It's the same with him, a lot of people will see him as the last member of the Brotherhood for the collection, where there will also be other collectors that won't class the Brotherhood as complete until they get Mastermind too.
After all, we can never be 100% sure we will get another extension (though I think and hope that we will) so people will want to make sure their favourite teams are complete before the collection eventually stops.
SV

Thor8 said...

Why was Shaman picked?

First of all there were quite a few fans who wanted this character, and second of all he had been offered to be made and then was substituted by a female character to appease other fans wants, maybe some of these fans gave him the vote in gratitude for what was done for them, and third, many collectors like to complete teams and probably felt the need to have Shaman so they could complete the original line up.

mtravis390 said...

It would have been interesting to see where the Shaman vote would have went to if Dan would have left Shaman on the confirmed list.
I know Deathbird would not have made the top 3. I think Silver Samurai
would have won.

CGJ said...

The Shaman vote was made to the tune of 'What? Put it off until the next extension?! How dare he?!! We will vote Shaman in and show him who's boss!!'

Only problem is, when the collection ends, many will look at the ones that didn't make the collection and wish they had voted for the ones they wanted rather than thinking the collecton would run forever

Better to vote for your favourites and not be swayed by calls for other peoples favourites.... particularly talking animals ;)

jimbob said...

Like I said before,Dan saying that Shaman will be in the next extension isn't a guarantee.

People was playing it safe and put their vote towards Shaman.

And most collectors just want to complete teams now. Can't finish a collection with half a team!

mighty_marvel said...

to be fair shaman finished quite high up the 161 - 180 forum poll too, 9th with 28 votes, and that was without the dangate controversy. so he's been reasonably popular for a while. the decision to drop him by dan probably helped him a bit but he'd likely have been up there anyway.

i admit i'm not the biggest alpha flight fan but i voted for him to get him in this extension to complete the original alpha flight line-up, as i'm hoping it will give the starjammers a much better chance to get the x-men ally slot in the next extension because corsair is one of my biggest wants.

Take a look if you want guys.

I think Corsair should be in the next extension,we have Shi'ar group coming along now, Gladiator,Lilandra and Deathbird.Corsair is closely related to that group.

@LAWAy

Nice drawing! And yes, i would be a better figure.

Approved !

CGJ said...

One that I think would be a big miss if he didn't make it in would be Dragon Man - without the silly glasses though, lets keep it sensible.

Would love a Mr Hyde Special too

@Juliano

Thanks mate. :)

@LAWAy

Really nice. That looks a lot better. I am for this option.

i really hope we finish the cast of secret wars before the collection finishes. I make it we still need wrecking crew, molecule man, volcana +/- beyonder. Although the beyonder wasnt even humanoid in the original (better) series

LAWay said...

@Michal

thanks man, we should totally petition for it and send it to EM so that they can ignore our wants some more. ;)

not a requested EM poll but thought i'd share the current standings in the how wolfsbane should be made vote on the forum. there are 2 parts to this vote.

part 1 - degree of transformation

don't mind - 11 (8.3%)
human - 5 (3.8%)
hybrid - 93 (70.5%)
full wolf - 23 (17.4%)

i'm pleased the hybrid look is currently well in the lead as its the iconic form i associate with her. so i hope EM do go along with the forum on this one. also we'll be getting a fully wolfed out werewolf in werewolf by night in this extension so wolfsbane should be different. would be great if EM based her face on this image of her

http://www.comicvine.com/wolfsbane/29-4557/all-images/108-202953/wolfsbane122/105-1808421/

as the red hair is another well known feature of the scottish lass.

part 2 - costume

don't mind - 9 (5.7%)
no costume - 23 (14.5%)
new mutants - 17 (10.7%)
x-factor (90s) - 53 (33.3%)
x-force (00s) - 15 (9.4%)
x-factor (00s) - 42 (26.4%)

i think her 90s x-factor look is her best so would like her to be done this way. also, if EM go with the overwhelming majority and do her in hybrid form its the only costume that really makes sense as in her 00s x-force and x-factor costumes i think she was pretty much always shown as fully wolfed out. and unlike madrox's 00s x-factor costume with the spotted green shirt, wolfsbane's has no particularly unique features. so 90s x-factor costume should definitely be the way to go.

Hey LAWay, great work there with Longshot. Had a look at some of your other recent work on LAWay cartoons too, great job indeed! Dan, maybe you should tell EM to check out this Longshot pic and suggest making him in this pose instead. ;)

LAWay said...

Thanks for the nice comment guys. Just had to draw up the thumbnail as I think it would be criminal to miss out on an opportunity of such a good pose. Unless there are just logistic problems with the pose.

As for Wolfsbane, I had totally forgotten about the 90s hybrid costumed look. Definitely my fave version and looks alot better than just another werewolf. Lets keep the character, personality and femininity in the figurine instead of another snarling beast.

deamon said...

Yup agree, hybrid form and 90's X-Factor costume is best choice for Wolfsbane.

i am hero6979 on the forum.

can you see if my vote was cast using my name hero6987 ?

Can you believe updates used to be every 2 weeks?

I think we have had it too good recently with weekly updates. Then, one forgotten update pushes back to a 2 week update, and this place is a ghost town. lol

Friday's update must be lined up to be one of the most exciting yet!

Perhaps they are preparing for the contest...

LAWay said...

-if one of the characters you voted for in the forum vote has made the collection (ie in the top 3) you are now ineligible to enter the other contest. You have had your say with your personal want making the extension already. :P

(that'll stir things up around here.)

TGR said...

good idea, none of my choices made it in. :-)

hopefully we'll get to see Sif this week.

mtravis390 said...

None of my choices made it either. I think I should get 5 entries in the contest. :)

Kal Brindle said...

Two of mine made it in - Shaman and Stingray but stuff you both! ;) I'm gonna enter anyway! :D

I have my wish list down to nine....had to bump Agatha, Lorelei and Hector though.

Texas Twister is probably where I'll end up. Start up the Rangers and kinda/sorta get a cowboy into the collection.

Thor8 said...

I also got two of my choices in. If I win the comp I know my choice will make a couple of bloggers happy besides myself.

Putting together a couple of top ten lists for the next extension(I just know there will be one).

Have a feeling this week's blog will be full of great news and big surprises.

deamon said...

Osvaldoeaf you're Brazilian, you should vote for Sunspot. Hope he's your top male wanted character :)
Sage - female x-hero for next extension!
Sunspot - male x-hero for next extension!

Villain for this and this, we still don't have even one villain for Punisher. Jigsaw for next extension!

mtravis390 said...

Punisher really need to have one villain in the collection. I am surprised that EM has not even mentioned Jigsaw.
To bad Lady Gorgon as only a few appearance. I really liked her.

I'd like to see The Hood made. I think he is a character that will still be around for years to come. Unlike Sentry.

John said...

"Sunspot - male x-hero for next extension!"

Personally, I'd prefer Warlock. But give us Warlock and Sunspot and we can move onto another team as far as I'm concerned.

John said...

The Most Wanted Double Pack poll on the forum just got updated by Gremlin. Here's all the votes with double digits;

Groot/Rocket Raccoon 31
Misty Knight/Colleen Wing 27
Rockslide/Anole 25
Cypher/Warlock 24
Corsair/Hepzibah 21
Ch'od/Raza 19
Cobra/Mr Hyde 19
Fandral/Hogun 17
Darkstar/Vanguard 15
Lockjaw + Luna/Maximus 15
Rictor/Shatterstar 13
Mad Thinker + Awesome Android/Andy 11

Personally, I don't really care for them, but EM should take note of how wanted the Starjammers are. Corsair should probably get an X-Slot next extension. And Ch'od needs to be a Special. Pairing him with Raza would save a slot in the long run and get a full set of Starjammers easier.

But NONE of this before Rocket and Groot!!! :D Seeing them on top makes me beyond happy. ;)

Yes, Tomas, I'm Brazilian and I'd love to have Sunspot in the collection. I did vote for him in the request poll, as well as for all the other NM.
Cheers, mate!

CGJ said...

Well if a Groot/Raccoon or Rockslide/Anole double pack ever got made it would be the first time that I sent something back

LAWay said...

EM shouldnt take note. Much like Shaman, people are only voting for things that EM told them they cant have.

While 31 people may want that, the other 200 may not.

TGR said...

I can picture the scene now. Dan is sat at his desk, head in hands, wondering what to write and trembling at the impending reaction :-). Will it be something that makes us want him for the next Prime Minister or will it be calls for his head on a plate at the reception desk in EM Towers..?

Hopefully it will be confirmation of the Forum Vote, a nice pic' of SIF and the Competition start.

If so...

"Dan for PM....vote for Dan.."

LOL

deamon said...

,,While 31 people may want that, the other 200 may not."

And that's example of stupid thinking that polls on forum are wrong way. Looks like You don't understand a formula. You have to give your top5 double packs. If someone isn't in my top5, it doesn't mean I don't want those characters.
Thinking your way, when you voted for 5 characters in forum choice, it means you don't want other characters?
I didn't vote for Shaman because he isn't in my top5, but I want him and will buy him.
If some character got 50 votes, it doesn't mean only 50 subscribers want him. It means this character is in top wanted of 50 subscribers.

LAWay said...

not stupid thinking bud. I didnt say all those other people DIDNT want those characters, I said they 'may' not want them.

People who feel so strongly for these characters, you imagine they would be first on their list especially after being told the chances of appearing in the regular line up are next to none.

So really, to everyone who really wants the character, its the first name on their list. I thought it was just a straight forward poll, not a vote of 5, which if anything, makes the outcome even worse.

Same could be said about every other character on the list, but really RR is the one that has gathered so much momentum recently, so unless only 40 people voted and had multiple votes, then it is a poor result.

Hel said...

Daniel, how many sales do Eaglemoss make for the Marvel figurine collection?

How many Forum votes decide the 3 figurines for this extension.

If we know these two numbers then we can see how significant or as I suspect - insignificant the forum is compared to its influence.

If collectors want cowboys then go collect Timpo figures.

I suggest that Eaglemoss and Marvel decide the collection not a small number of collectors.

TGR said...

Hel, I think you may have missed the point.

Eaglemoss offer a competition where-by one single collector can name a figurine for the collection. That chosen figurine may or may not fit in with the wants of the many other collectors but it is accepted that the competition is a good idea and something that we are all looking forward to. This is an Eaglemoss perk to one person and we all live with it.

Now take this premise one step further. Eaglemoss offered the FORUM the opportunity to choose 3 figurines for all the hard work and information that the FORUM has provided over the years (we have been running since around issue 5 or 6 ). The FORUM choice is a perk given to the FORUM. That is why I made it clear that non-members would not vote and that was accepted by Eaglemoss.

Now the next step is an Eaglemoss Poll. If one is needed then we can act as hosts and ensure fair play...it would be open to all collectors (who expressed a preference) including banned members - something we have done in the past. As far as I can recall there are only 4 members in total that have been banned. I really cannot see what the beef is about. We've discussed other options and EM even tried to run a poll on here; it was proved that it was not feasible and open to abuse.

those that demand a change are the ones who have not been lucky in getting their votes through by fair means or have been hoofed out of the group because they can't abide by a few pretty simple, courteous rules.

Have you noticed how pleasant the blog has been these passed few weeks ? Quieter.... yes, but a far more amicable environment to post messages and get reasoned responses.

Hel said...

I read often and post rarely.

I have come to dislike the idea that a small minority can dictate the choices of this and other collections.

I noticed a mad influx of Forum members attacking bloggers and howling for Dan's resignation.

I think Eaglemoss should consider this when giving the forum an unfair say.

How can collectors be sure that the forum represents them.

It is quite feasible that a large proportion of "Friends" are indeed skewing the votes.

Hel said...

In closing I think this is an issue of trust.

Quite frankly, in common with other bloggers, I don't trust the forum.

I don't know you TGR.
I don't know the members of the forum.

The one thing I do know is that I buy figures from Eaglemoss and they are of high quality and value for money.

I sincerely hope that everyone who doesn't yet subscribe in the UK takes out a subscription to ensure the future of this collection.

Hel said...

One last comment.

I don't think it is pleasant for a group of forum "Friends" to hound seasoned bloggers from this blog.

Bully boy tactics from the forum "Thought Police".

I hope those who are currently silent and very entertaining return soon.

deamon said...

,,How can collectors be sure that the forum represents them."

Don't you have own forum about CMFC in your country?
In Poland we have forum about CMFC, where are much more subscribers than Polish members at SHFF. I asked them why they don't register at SHFF and don't vote. Their answer was: don't care who is next character in CMFC, they still will just collect it. If they don't care, then we (SHFF members) choose.
Don't ask forum represents anyone, because anyone can register and be forum member. You don't pay for register at SHFF, you can go there and vote. If you don't care who is next character, then don't make problems with forum.

Dan seems to have turned into Rich as we still await an update. He promised a midweek update with pictures of lady Sif but we didn't get it , and it's now been 2 weeks without a friday update. Rich used to like to keep us all waiting !!
Hopefully we'll still get an update today ( a mega update ) and it will just be a week late then. Come on Dan show us a great one !!
