"Where wings take dream"

Just reading through the comments section and it appeared to me how much you guys have taken this collection to your hearts and have a vested interest in keeping the dream alive (whatever that 'dream' is). Thanks again for all the support you show week in week out for the CMFC.

Took a few 'arty' shots of Mojo (& Co.) hanging around the book shelf for you guys...

Who the hell is that guy in the last shot?!!!

Constrictor paint came in, funny how you miss things until it's painted - We noticed there should be sections to the whip (like a rattle snakes tail)...

Wolfsbane paint. We've asked for darker fur, but I like how the paint has improved her face and top lip...

Q&A

Vance metallic? not sure we have room in the schedule but it sure warrants looking into.

Blog membership.
Just click on follow blog in the top right. Thanks for all those that have 'joined'.

Will we keep lead.
Yes lead is our main ingredient, but we will continue to use resin on certain areas where necessary.

3D printing of figurines. Our sculptors pretty much use traditional methods of creating a useable production master. But they are welcome to try any means necessary to deliver us the best sculpt.

DC Chess the cause of death of regular collection ('Bruce'). DC wanted us to do another collection and EM thought it would be a great collection to do. It probably helped in the decision making whether to proceed to a national/international launch but it would of gone ahead regardless of 'Bruce's' fate.

Re-dos/Alt Costumes.

It's not been presented as an idea to marketing or the bosses it's just an editorial concept at the moment. But I think it would be foolish not to at least try 2-3 're-dos' in the next extension (if we get the go ahead). Iron Man classic seems to stand out to me, especially that Tony Stark has had many armours over the years and we've had War Machine and Mark I (Movie) already. Maybe an X-Man (Wolvie) and possibly Spidey would be where the money is at.

Stingray's wings.

Yes we are aware of the issue with his wings. We hope to have this fixed but can't promise anything at this juncture.

Suggestions from bloggers.

We always love to hear your thoughts and ideas on what EM should do next. Be it Marvel , DC, 2000AD or Dr. Who. Maybe these ideas eventually boil down to something tangible maybe they won't.

Max_0888.
I noticed the proliferation on Comicvine recently and wondered who it could be! Now I know. Thanks.

I'll leave the last word to a certain irascible newspaper editor...

Totally agree, whatever reason led Dan to delete his comments, I hope he knows how much we appreciate his work on both the blog and the collection itself!

Hi Dan

I too would like to pass on my gratitude for the commitment you have show the fans of this collection.

We have our individual likes and hates, and apart from the bickering children that are on here sometimes throwing their toys everywhere, this is a great place to get the latest news and views about the collection.

Great work mate, and I hope EM appreciate your work as much as we all obviously do.

PS. I'm on the side of no re-do's (in case you're are keeping score)... mainly because I'm worried they will do well, and then EM will produce more and more of them just to get an easy buck, regardless of whether subscriber's or completest's want them or not.

Thats pretty cool Robert :) I'm not that into comics myself but I have had real pangs of jealousy this week.

Stans 89 and wont have it in him to do this forever so I do feel I may have missed an opportunity with him being in the UK.

I had several chances to meet him on my last trip to LA but the crowds/cost persuaded me it wasnt a big deal. Now I'm thinking maybe I dropped a bollock !

We are booked to go to Washington in April and Florida again in December so I have to hope I can get to LA again in 2013 to coincide with his appearance at a con or Frank and sons.

Seeing pics of him with the guys on the FB comic collectors page really made me feel I lost the plot !!

@Joanna - I'm married and straight as a die but I see where you'r coming from ;) (not literally but you know what I mean....)

Toon, Stan will be around for years yet, I suspect. There were guys in their thirties knackered by the length of the day and Stan was still razor sharp and full of energy! As I said to a comic mag editor, he's more incredible than his creations.

TheTooN said...

Seeing UK pics of fans with him is bloody amazing. Knowing how much this single man has affected so many lives defies belief. Kind of like Nelson Mandela !!

I seriously hope I do have another chance to meet him and shake his hand. My nipper saw some pics of the UK comic collectors FB page tonight and he said !!! thats the bloke who had a drink out of Hulks fridge !!! Gotta love kids !!

Seriously though next time we go to LA I am going to make sure it coincides with Stan being at a con or Frank and Sons.

BTW Fanboys :) How accurate was the movie Paul !!

It looks pretty accurate compared to Frank and Sons (http://www.frankandsonshow.net/) which had Star Wars Cosplayers (campaigning for a childrens cancer fund) as well as 200+ dealers. I have never been into a con so not sure if its typical or not ?

Ode to Dan & the CMFC
Dan rhymes with Stan. My view is that what Dan is doing is honoring and celebrating the Marvel tradition and what Dan is doing with the CMFC would make even Stan Lee proud. Not only have we seen an amazing choice of characters in extension 181-200; we've also seen a great deal of research and amazing sculptural productions to give us the best possible 3D renditions of the characters. The choice of Hela, for example, is an inspired one. The superb addition of Giant-Man fills a gap in the CMFC that no true Marvel fan or historian would have wanted to remain un-filled. The awesome Werewolf by Night sculpt is a masterpiece that has surpassed all expectations for a classic horror character. And the inclusion of Firelord, Deathbird, Stingray, Gamora and Vance Astro has created a huge thrill, a massive buzz around the extension. And more and more. I could go on forever.
Guys, if you love the CMFC and you want to see more and more characters in this amazing collection, the only thing to do is be enthusiastic, constructive, and supportive both with your words and with your pockets.
Excelsior!

Does anyone know what's going on with the northstar and aurora twin pack special ?
It is not available on the main site.
I know that my local comic shop had a bunch of them delivered but they were all damaged.
Have they been recalled or something for this reason ?

Dan ?

Banshee said...

Hi Dan,

Do you by any chance know the sales figures for the Northstar/Aurora double pack yet?

If they were good what are the chances of getting another double pack?

When the comments page jumps from 60 to 200+ in a few days you know one of two things has happened, Dan has been on answering questions or mgf and Grim are at each others throats again.

Could have saved myself five minutes of reading with a simple addendum, *these two don't like each other, continue to post 198.

Teeth gnashing was one of the things that spoiled the forum for me, along with the endless lists, oh yeah, and that OTHER thing.
Don't know who that CGR bloke is but he sounds like a real troublemaker.

CGJ out. ;)

TGR is a liar and a bully I have been on the receiving end of a couple of nasty stunts perpetrated by him and some of his lackeys from that tin pot forum. It has been good to see his influence in this collection diminishing I have never understood why someone who set up a cheap looking forum about these figs was consulted so much, guess it doesn't matter now :)

Nightwing said...

Oh and TGR I have the EXACT post that both mgf (Gort at the time) and you posted when he was banned and I think anyone who reads it will see you were the one in the wrong. First off Gort's post (in response to the mods holding back a poll result like spoiled children)

"Perhaps we knew the drill.

Aware as I am that a ban will almost certainly follow I'll say this anyway...

Too sensitive Grim. I wasn't upset when I donated £20 for your charity and you didn't acknowledge it. I was happy to help and knew how busy you were setting it all up. I'll donate the same next time with great happiness should I still be here to do so.

The remarks I made aren't snide. I can do snide if necessary, but they weren't. They are opinion, and valid. I sometimes think that anything short of blind adulation here is considered a form of heresy. No-one said there wasn't a lot of work going into it and no-one said it wasn't appreciated. The answer to why people bother, by the way, is because they want to. That's why they bother.

It made no difference to me this time because, knowing what was to follow, I decided not to play. I have, however, been up a few times at 1 a.m. and beyond waiting for a result, work first thing in the morning, while one or two or mods snigger for an hour and a half while people just want to find a result and go to bed. Why is it done? Power. The same power some toddlers exercise over each other, and some nations exercise over each other. Last time was FAR worse than this time though, so that's good in itself. I think you are right though, Grim. Next time the result should be left for EM on the Friday update. Either that or start a poll at 5pm rather than midnight so that is where it will also end.

By all means allow mods to play these "we know/you don't/shall we?/shan't we?/will we?/won't we?" games, but perhaps do it in the day rather than the dead of night. Some might balance their love of the collection with the need to go to work early or want to do silly things like sleep. Personally I find it boring and frankly an indication to me that a little power can very occasionally corrupt.

Apart from that, a very sincere well done to all involved."

Quite a calm and balanced response I would say. And then The Grim Reapers response.

"your comments are unfair Gort...as for the donation; i did acknowledge it, remember we spoke on the phone a couple of times whilst I was actually doing the ride...i didn't realise I had to write a full letter of thanks..but hey-ho.

as for sniggering mods , wrong again...we had discussed at length how the results would be tallied and cross checked, it was only whilst we did this that the posts were made. There were discrepancies between the tallies (due in most to people voting for confirmed figs and US chasing them up so they did not waste their vote) the discrepancies arose between counters as some had noted the amendments others had not.

seems you are spoiling for a ban so i'll not disappoint you, a week off the board ought to do it and allow you to cool down. see you next wednesday.

and if anyone thinks that is harsh then you are mistaken...we have taken enough grief lately and it will stop "

Far from the many warnings you said he had, I don't think there is even one warning here just a straight ban for no reason (something many of us have suffered over the years)

Just thought I would offer some evidence to back up an argument something which you and your cronies have failed to do in the past......
