Robert's argument of paying for the Stan Lee meet and greet compared to buying a hoover was great.

Sometimes we do need to put things into perspective and treat ourselves for special occasions and stuff like that.

Well said old bean.

Hmmm get fleeced by some old fella who already has more money than the Tory front bench....or a Ross Andru Spidey page? ....yep that there's a dilemma an no mistake.

Going to the comic-con today in New Orleans at the Convention Center. 30 dollars for one day/45 dollars for 2 days. Stan Lee & William Shatner will be there but you have to pay more for their meet & greets but it does not say how much more. Also there Lou Ferrigno, Adam Baldwin, James Marsters, Peter Mayhew, Mary McDonnell. Have not seen a lists of the comic book artists that will be there.

Thanks Dan
Nice to know you think of us loyal bloggers. I hope in your next post you will be able to clarify the Firelord 'head situation'. I am (rather obsessingly) worrying that he won't have a majestic head of big pointy flames, which is one of his most defining visual elements.
To leave him with a flat head would be a tragedy... and probably make Galactus very very angry ! The sculpt is as a masterpiece, especially the flames on his staff, and all I want is for the fig's head to be equally awesome.
I speak for all Firelord fans: bring on the big flaming head!!!

Nobody loves Ross Andru more than I do, Ted. One of the unsung greats. Good luck on your bidding.

And you make a valid point about money and the fact Stan doesn't need any more. But I want to meet him and for that to happen I need to pay for it. Maybe I should be making more of a principled stand on this. But I pay for loads of stuff I need rather than want (I spent £242 on new brake pads, front tyre and tax disc holder just today, for instance) and like the idea of - for a change - paying for something I don't need but really, really want.

Strangely enough Robert galaxy quest just finished on BBC 2 it features the cast from an old sic-fi show reduced to hawking their autographs at conventions.
Hey I know it's only £25 to join the winners queue or £175!!!!! to join the queue reserved for the beautiful people but it just makes my twitchy eye flare up. The last time i put my boot through the tv was because of that Live 8 gig . All very egalitarian, just text in for your tickets Yet turn on the Tv and there's Gervais and wossy and a whole host of celebrity shitbags in a special VIP primo position at the front fenced off from the unwashed plebs that had queued for days.
£400 is a large amount for me to drop in one weekend these days. Having to pay on top of that for a scribbled sig . Makes me realise I really ain't that bothered

I basically agree with you, Ted. My own personal bugbear is similar: wealthy superstars asking folk on the breadline to donate to some charity or other. When I first read the prices for Stan I switched off the computer. I admit, the whole crass commercialism of it turned me right off. I didn't get to meet Stan in the mid-1990s when he was in Glasgow because I was studying and was too skint to pay for the £30 hardback book he was signing. (I was also too proud to borrow the money, which was just dumb as a bag of spanners.) The money is not an issue at all now and I really do regret enormously not meeting Stan then. So, like my good lady wife said, in the great scheme of things it's a drop in the ocean. And, yes, I am aware that in my excitement over meeting him, I am just ignoring the exploitative nature of this whole set-up. Maybe I'm just getting less principled in my dotage. I honestly don't know why I am accepting this with no fight.

Dan,

I've been a Collector since Day 1. I live here on the West Coast of Canada here in Vancouver.

I wanted to show you my collection as I've made a note of your blog up on the Header. Enjoy!

Ha it's ok Robert I still love you ;)
I'm at best a part time geek these days, my comic reading heyday is far behind me . If i was still a dedicated fan of 35 yrs standing like your goodself I would probably think nothing of it. Hey it's the man , and realistically probably your. Last chance of meeting the legend.
Make's me wonder about finishing this collection with a Stan Lee fig though.
would it be pricier than all the other figs ,as Stan would probably demand a cut?
Only joking marvelites. MMM

Isn't too early to think about #616 figurine ;)

I would have gotten the Moonstone fig no questions asked if it was her "classic" uniform, but the newer one is far too generic (heck she looks a lot like Dagger to me) to warrant my dough. A real shame as she has always been a fave of mine. Hope ya feel better!

Thundra can be a regular size figurine.Everyone must feel the same about this.

Thundra regular next extension please Dan.

Lockjaw next special.

SinisterVenom said...

Almost time for another update then! I have one request Dan, please can you give us the latest on any news on future extensions? Like, how many we may have, who is likely to be chosen and more importantly, roughly when we'll know whether we may get one or not. Fingers crossed we do though! Still plenty of characters left to be made and that will keep bringing the money in. (Know what else will help out with sales? Fixing that blasted debit card problem on the CMFC main site! I know it's not your fault Dan as it's not your department but maybe you could do something to get their butts kicked into gear and fix the problem. It will help you guys out big time if they do!)

Hopefully, Dan is fine and his non-appearance is not health-related. Actually, I hope he picked up a pile of old comics by a Buscema or an Andru or a Kane, started to read and just completely lost track of time...

SO SORRY!!!!!

I was really busy with other stuff today and just didn't get time to do an update. Still feeling a bit under the weather but it's more about finding the time.

Apologies to everyone who has been waiting.

I'll post the Moonstone CGIs tomorrow.
not sure I've got anything else though. ??

Oh Dan, Could you tell us whether TERRAX will be next after the twins double pack before the Megas hit us?

Oh Dan, Could you make any comments about the FIRELORD figure & whether the flaming hair & flames on his shoulders we be kept on the figure or not?

LAWay said...

Hey Dan, maybe open the 'vault' of pre-production with some old designs/sketches/ CG models or sculpts that didnt quite make the grade of previous figurines. I'm sure that will go down well too. :)

I did enjoy the Comic-Con on Saturday but not because of Stan Lee or William Shatner because I could not afford to see them. Shatner wanted 75 dollars & Lee wanted over a 100. I only had 50 left after paying 40 to get in. Funny how they had Shatner surrounded by curtains to make sure you could not even see him because that would have been seeing him for free! Both Lee & Shatner are not young men but they still try & suck every last dollar out of fans they can. Sad really. It is not like they are hard up for money.

I'm afraid Thundra's height puts her in Special size territory.

I hope the powers that be will do an ARCHANGEL Special with his outstretched metal wings.

I hope they do a FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER HALLOWEEN Special this year.

If they do a LOCKJAW Special this year & he tops the special list on the forum I wish they would add a redo of Crystal which was one of the worst figures to date.
