We're nearly there...

Hi guys.

Welcome back for another (late) update.

First off, I’d like to address the Pyro figure. A lot of helpful comments, even if they are mostly negative. I’m going to try and answer some of the questions regarding this sculpt:

I think the image I placed on here didn’t do the character much justice but I appreciate you may just not like it. Here’s a better pic.

First up is the size difference, in the photo I placed up Pyro was at the painted sculpt stage, which means he’s made of another material and not lead. When the figures are made in lead they shrink a little. Having got a lead version of Pyro in the office, I can confirm that he’s the same size as Spidey.

Marvel’s changes involved the paint job. We initially had the character in a different orange costume; Marvel requested the colour scheme you see now.

Unfortunately, as someone suggested in the comments, we’ve moved to the point where the pose is pretty much decided. Please bear in mind that when the Pyro sculpt was shown on this blog, the feedback was positive, as always a couple of collectors weren’t thrilled with the character but there wasn’t an outcry for the figure to be changed at the time. I promise you we do take your comments seriously and are willing to look at figures again but it may be too late for this one. I really do think that a lot of people are going to like the figure when they see it in the shops.

Other questions that popped up in the comments were regarding double packs and Northstar. I’m sorry to say I can’t confirm one yet but I do believe we’ll have Northstar and Aurora as a double pack as part of next year’s specials.

Someone also asked why competitions and polls are on the forums and not on the blog. The simple answer is that I don’t have the ability (or time) to make sure people don’t cheat on polls/comps on this blog. We have tried running a few polls in the past but it quickly became obvious that someone was cheating. When the forum chose three figures for this extension I will announce the details on this blog, giving most a chance to join and vote. Sorry but there just isn’t another way.

Anyway, that aside I’ve got two more figures to announce for the extension.

The first is Forge – a simple choice that has been requested many times and is a very popular X-Men character.

The second is….

J. Jonah Jameson.

Now I know there’s going to be a lot of debate on this one but let me say straight away that Jameson being in the collection does not mean we’ve ‘opened the floodgates for civilians’. As far as I’m concerned, Jameson is one of the most important characters in Spidey’s history and despite being a ‘normal’, is as recognizable and unique-looking (hell, probably a lot more) than the other characters in the extension.

Right, that leaves just one slot for Eaglemoss to choose before we start the polls and comp. We’ve talked about it in the office non-stop over the last few days and still can’t quite decide, so now’s your chance to give me your suggestions for the ONE character. Make your voice known in the comments section and you never know, we may be influenced and pick it.

Right that is your lot. Have a good weekend.

And I thought there was no one else who watched the Trinity and Sabata films, Bob! I feel we are like brothers at times. Or, since I grew up reading comics, that would be clones created by an evil, vindictive genius with an irrational grudge who send one clone to Titan and another to Counter-Earth and then, in an attempt to capture the Hulk, reunited the clones who then rebelled against the immorality of their creator, teamed-up with the Hulk to defeat the creator, only for one clone to die heroically in the last battle, just as the opposing forces are defeated and it seems the villain of the piece is about to surrender.

PLEASE PLEASE

Megan for Excalibur!or any British character will do.

Why is EM against the British characters all of a sudden?:(

Gremlin said...

Meggan would make a beautiful figure. She probably won't get in this time but she would be a great curveball like Shanna.

One-of-Three said...

@Jimbob: You know, now that you mention it I've never quite understood why people have such a great fascination with characters who share the same nationality as them, mostly because it gives the impression that's the only reason why they want them in the collection. It's probably not always true, but if it was then it's an incredibly silly reason (and not a very good one), in my opinion.

I don't think EM is against British Characters all of a sudden, just that they probably don't focus on including characters based on their nationality.

Anyway, going with Roberts game (kinda):

I'd love to have the rest of X-Factor included. Mostly Monet, Strong guy, Wolfsbane, and Layla Miller.

The YA (Wiccan first) and the Runaways would be great additions too, imo.

I'd also love for Armor to be added to the collection since she's currently on the main X-team and it's very clear she's going to stick around since she's Wolverine's new side kick (Since Kitty is too old and Jubilee lost her powers) and is obviously going to be around for a long while.

Though, even though there are a bunch of characters I'd love to be added to the collection, the best way to shut me up for good would just be to add The Stepford Cuckoos to the collection. ;) They're (clearly) my absolute favorites, so I would be satisfied with just their inclusion.

Robert said...

Ach, Oot, nothing wrong with identifying with a character's nationality. Perhaps you are confusing jingoism and xenophobia with patriotism and national identity. As a kid I welcomed Captain Britain (even if he was technically a Sassenach) because he was British and fought in the UK. I recognised the buses, Woolworths, fashions, etc. and it made it more real.

Fact is, some readers identify more with some characters over others because they have some common ground, whether it be family background or situation, occupation, place of residence, nationality or personality. Hardly "silly" reasons! ;)

One-of-Three said...

@Robert: I think you misunderstood me, probably my fault. Anyone can like a character for whatever reason they'd like since it's their personal preference.

Everything you said is great, and I don't find those reasons to be silly at all. It's perfectly understandable to be able to identify with a character's nationality, place of residence, occupation, etc since that leads into many more things to like about the character.

The only thing I find silly is when there are no other reasons for liking a character except for the fact that they're British, French, Canadian, American, Japanese, etc. So I just can't quite understand it when people say "Any [insert nationality] character will do!"

I just think there's a difference between being able to identify with a character because of their nationality and a character's nationality being the only reason one likes a character and/or wants a character in the collection.

Again, that's simply my opinion on the matter.

Gremlin said...

I understand what you mean OOT. There is a certain national pride thing going on with getting a British character in. That said, if EM suddenly said we are making Jamie Braddock or some other third rate Brit character I would be peeved. The character has got to warrent the inclusion. IMO the likes of Peter Wisdom, Meggan and Roma are worthy in their own ways apart from being just British.
The French members of the forum were campaigning long and hard to get a french character in the collection. They put all their support behind Batroc the Leaper and it paid off. Batroc is certainly a great character and will look great next to Captain America.

There are a few British characters I just can't find the love for. Death's Head, Mad Jim Jaspers and Baron Blood to name a few. I know they have their fans out there but these characters just leave me cold.

@Robert
where did you get a region free dvd player? I can never find them anywhere!

As for national superheroes, wheres all the marvel welsh characters eh? I read a good article one time in the newspaper that featured a welsh artist working for marvel and it actually listed 5 welsh superheroes, but I can remember any of their names. :(

A public information message from Deadpool.

Check out the website for the CMFC blog rats, it has been updated.

Antman is now back in the running order after X-Man (the transexual?).

Now then I have an idea for Size changers as specials -

Provide Goliath or Giant man as a special with a Regular size figure and the Giant Size figure in the same pack.
Once again Deadpool dares to tread where no other blog rat has gone before ...

PS my verification word is fingo -

FINGO should be the name of the next Marvel Character to be created.

Fingo - the man with the giant finger ...

OMG BOB and ROB,

I too am a Vancleef film fan.
I love those old Spagetti westerns and the ones with Sabata.

Deapool, Rob and Bob .... aka the Good the Bad and the Ugly.

Deadpool said...

PS did someone mention Sersi - curves and lack of clothing?

If so I'll vote for anything with that is girly curvy and clothingly challenged.

New verification word Snalla.

Snalla is a new marve character cloned from Beast that can transorm into a snail and shrink to the size of a pin head.

mighty_marvel said...

LAWay - you can turn pretty much any dvd player into region-free. There's always a code you can type in on the remote to get you to manufacturer setings, normally with the disc drawer out for some reason. Once in manufacturer settings you can change the region setting to 0. There's plenty of websites around that tell you the various codes for different players

mighty_marvel said...

isn't pixie welsh?

Deadpool said...

Law, I have done a bit sniffing around for Welsh super heroes.

Unfortunately I was relying upon a source at Marvel to leek me the names but he has welshed on the agreement.

Maybe a suitable hero for Wales should be "Lieutenant Leek" champion of allotment owners throughout the nation.

Or

"Ensign Eisteddfod" who confounds his enemies by enfeebling their minds with a torrent of consonants.

Robert said...

Fair enough, Oot. I agree with the idea that any character, regardless of how lame or awful looking, should not get in purely because they happen to share your nationality. I had no idea about the French forum campaign. Thank goodness the French picked Batroc! (Although I kind of thought the French may have disliked Batroc because he was such a stereotype, with his "Zut alors! Ze Capitan has escaped!", his oily personality and the moustache-twiddling. Hmm. Not sure what that says, if anything...) Sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick with what you were saying.

Leigh, Mighty Marvel is right about multi-region players. I did it the difficult way by trying to find one already converted then discovered later that you can change a normal one at home. D'oh!

DP. You are Blondie, I am Col. Mortimer and Bob is Tuco? But Tuco steals the film!

We don't have any Ohio representation in the collection. This is why we need Howard the Duck; because he's from the same state as me. :D

My word verification is "gazonube." I imagine this as a character from Impossible Man's home world.

LAWay said...

@Deadpool

Old news man, you are getting out of touch. We already heard of the updated website and someone already suggested the size changer idea of the forums.

As for welsh heroes...i think there may have been a captain cymru, or maybe I am making stuff up. But there was definitely one hero that could turn into a dragon and died during House of M or No More Mutants...or was that the same thing?

Yeh, I heard about the codes on dvd players. I guess I'll have a look at which ones are the easiest to hack into.

mighty_marvel said...

there was a captain cymru. comicvine says she's the captain britain of Earth-1282. ned ralston is the mutant dragon who died during m-day. although as he stayed in dragon form i can't quite understand why he could no longer fly. still had wings after all. i believe he is supposed to be welsh. there's also a guy called gareth thomas aka red dragon who's definitely welsh. has the welsh flag on his costume. i imagine pixie is the most well known welsh marvel hero though

Yeh, cant get on the forums either. The blog rules supreme!

@Mighty Marvel
Good researching, you found exactly the characters I was looking for. Shame there are not more pictures of the lesser characters. I dont seriously want them as figurines though.

@Ted
yeh, I know it was taking the piss, but I just saw it as a little too personal. Clever play on the words with the title of it, but reading the posts as well just seemed to step over the mark for me personally. I can take a joke, but you may as well have posted a website that said 'leigh is a dick', thats how it felt.
The blog. Not the dick. There was no dick feeling involved upon visiting the blog.
Sorry to disappoint.

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Heh, there is only one western character that mirrors old Ted quite uncannily. The Lee Marvin character in "Cat Ballou"
Any chance of a Bloodstone pic anyone i'll put in a new patio in return?

Robert said...

Just saw a new Thor movie teaser photo showing the Odinson, his one-eyed dad and evil "brother". Getting more worried the more I see. Costumes look very futuristic, rather plasticy and false, and vaguely resemble some sort of Batman bodysuit. Continuing the cowboy theme from earlier, it's like comparing the clothes worn by cowboys in a Ford Western to those worn in a Leone Western. The former look like they have just been taken out of Wardrobe five minutes earlier, the latter look convincingly dirty and lived-in. Great actor though he is, Hopkins looks very unconvincing in the photo. Also I really think the Asgardians should be wearing a combination of leather and armour plating...

Anonymous said...

Thanks for everthing so far...
my suggestions to fill out the final spot
1. Starfox
2. Mantis
3. Two-gun kid
4. Stingray
5. Justice (Vance astrovik)
6. 3-d man (triathalon)
i would agree with the thundra, Thunderstrike & Howard the Duck picks as well.

LAWay said...

I agree Robert. Saw the new pic, and I wasnt convinced when we first saw Thor.

The armour plates look awful. Its a weird sort of fantasy world they are creating when they could have just kept it simple. Its like they have made modern thor armour to fit in with the iron man armour rather than make thor for a thor movie.

Odin looks awful, and I didnt even know who the other guy was at first. Then it clicked that he should be loki, but the costumes are just really off.

I think it will be a cheesy bore fest, which worries me, as it may turn people off avengers.

Speaking of avengers, edward norton is out and wont be reprising the role of banner or hulk. Names in the running include adrian brody and david tennant, which I think are excellent suggestions.

Robert said...

Wholeheartedly agree with you, Leigh. And you're spot on about Loki; it took me a few seconds to realise that's who he is supposed to be, and that was more to do with logical reasoning than any kind of physical resemblance to any comicbook incarnation of the Trickster. As you say, worrying.

As for Norton, sorry to hear he's not reprising Banner. I thought he was very good in the movie. And, despite having some grounds for a pop at Marvel over how they handling dropping him from the casting, he was extremely gracious in his comments afterwards. I was very impressed. A class act.

On the plus side, recent gossip says they have cast Hawkeye for the Avengers film. Which would be grounds for cheers if we hadn't seen what a pig's ear that Hollywood have made of the appearance of the Asgardians.

Thor8 said...

I've seen pics of the up-coming Thor movie and I am completely disgusted. Thor is my favorite Marvel character (I bet that caught everyone by surprise)and I always dreaded that if a Thor movie was ever produced they would ruin it by casting some weak looking puny actor for the leading role and that's exactly what's happened. I don't really care much for the rest of what I've seen so far either.

LAWay said...

What I dont understand is why they cast someone with such a small frame.

I understand wanting someone who can act. And I understand not wanting like someone with arnie's build or a wrestler because it would look silly maybe. But at least make hime put on a few pounds of muscle. Tobey maguire got in great shape for spidey. Look at that twilight kid, he quickly put on muscle for the role. Why didnt marvel make this guy do the same instead of having a stupid muscle suit thing.

Thor8 said...

Totally agree with you LAWay. This guy could play the part of Thor's kid brother. I just hope the plot and the special effects for the film don't make it worse.

Deadpool said...

Have faith Thor .... movie stills generally do not do the film justice.

Keep in mind that the Aesir and Vanir are Gods, so why would they wear scabby, shabby, muddy, dusty, carpet remnants?

I am a stalwart Asgardian fan - in a Marvel and Asatru sense and have a gut feeling that the film will deliver.

PS. My two egyptian Mau cats are called Odin and Loki.

On a related subject - has anyone else noticed the resurgence in interest in the Northern European mythos?

Reading around the subject it is quite spooky how much of Norse mythology was taken up by christianity, it's a little like the chicken and the egg debate.

Finally - I am a little disappointed that there has been no more mention of scantily clad Sersi- so I thought I would mention it again - just to keep us on an even keel.

PPS Law as you begin to age - like Ted, Law and Bob humour becomes a little more cutting but don't take it to heart, I am sure Ted luvs ya - in a purely platonic sense.

PPPS I think I'll be the Indian and Robert and Ted can be the Hairy smelly knifey bloke and side kick.

Oddly enough my Verification word is Sionist ...spooky.

John said...

The thing that threw me the most was the gold eyepatch on Odin... Then looking at the costumes, I had painful flashbacks to the old stop animation movies were they'd switch between the mortal world and the world of the gods. The god world looked so fake, mostly just so the audience would have something to go on. Well... it doesn't look very good.

And then there's 3D which is a whole other rant.

DP, my word verification in "sewsi" which is almost Sersi. I say, if we want more curvy girls though, we should start with Venus. :D

BobDiamond said...

Right then...
If I'm Sabata and DP is The Mute Indian guy, then I think Robert should be The Shady-but-charismatic Banjo Player....which leaves Ted to be The Hairy/ Drunk/ Smelly, Knife-Throwing Side-kick. Hope you don't mind Ted- but he is a little bit like the Cat Ballou character...and he is also the 'lovable' member of The Gang!!!

PS....I am allowed to talk B*****ks now aren't I? As we've gone way over 'The 100 "sensible" posts first rule' that somebody suggested a while ago.
Yahoo!..Comic book day...hope they've got my order right now that my mate Steve has gone...

Really late this time,

FORUM UPDATE....

Sorry for this guys but superherofigurineforum hosts have had the plug pulled on them by the US authorities...they had too much controversial stuff hosted there and did nothing to control it.
Foul mouthed and homophobic posters don't do ANYONE any favours. Well they had warnings but did not act...

..so we have a new forum http://shff.freeforums.org

I'll get the old URL to point there eventually along with a new name which will be SHFF.CO.UK

It is up and running (well walking at the moment) but should be fully functional within the week. if you were a member on the old forum (and not banned ) re-register but use your OLD FORUM NAME and that will speed things up. Yes we know some unsavoury characters will get through the net but we can live with that, they'll either toe the line or get weeded out anyway.

Totally out of my control, but we have been working hard to minimise the disruption. good news is the new forum looks even better set to run decent polls :-) that's all for now, the rest is on the new forum.

Weird that 'US authorities' closed the site down. On what account? There is much worth, bigger, more well known websites to pull the plug in that respect, I dotn think its even possible to shut down a website because of foul language and rudeness, because of freedom of speech and all that.

I understand posting copyright material if Marvel maybe asked for the website to be closed down, but I cant see it happening, not with all the fanfic websites out there.

Unless I am being stupid, these explanations are incompatible. That being the case, which is true?

One-of-Three said...

@Robert: I'm not sure what you mean by incompatible, I'm afraid. I'll explain again though. =)

Basically the hosting service, "IPB Free", which hosts the SHFF along with many other forums has been taken down.

The SHFF itself was not a target whatsoever, but because "IBP Free" is no longer around to host the forums, all of the forums hosted by them went down along with "IBP Free".

I was just clarifying what Grim was saying, though we more or less said the exact same thing. lol

@Robert: Rofl, your comments generally make me laugh, it's such a good read. You're a good man, Robert.

Also, I'd like to think that Rich hasn't made an update yet because he's trying to convince the Higher Ups to let him make a Stepford Cuckoo figurine. ;)

In reality: He's probably either tied up trying to see if he can get Northstar and Aurora as a double pack (since if not, Northstar will likely take the last spot) or just still trying to decide the character over all.

Also, I have a question for everyone, I love the character Monet from X-Factor, but I've never been able to pronounce her full name.

"Monet Yvette Clarisse Maria Therese St. Croix"

I can pronounce all of it except for "St. Croix", so how would I go about pronouncing that? What is "St." short for? I always thought it was short for "Saint" but I'm probably wrong.

Then I coughed for a bit, spilling my hot chocolate down my leg and leaving marshmallow-shaped burns on my thighs and feet. That brought on the wheezing, the angina attack, partial paralysis of my extremities, a fall onto a glass coffee glass, deep lacerations, a broken hip and screaming pain (well, as much as I could get out in between the wheezing) and now I'm in Ward 12 of the Southern General Hospital. I was going to do the lottery this week but I probably won't bother now...

I shouldn't use it as much as I do, but just like this comment you posted, the last one really made me laugh. You're a funny guy Robert. =)

Robert shows his age now. I bet he doesnt really know how to work his mobile properly and gets his wife to do text messaging for him.

This calls for figurine redos to appeal to a younger audience who can text their friends and tell them how kewl this figurines are, instead of poor ol Rob, scratching his head like a confused baboon .

You know I jest...but you also know its true. ;)

LAWay said...

To Robert

Robert said...

Actually, there's some truth in the text messaging thing. I only learned how to do it last year because I was getting messages from an employer and had to. To my surprise, it's actually quite handy. I believe the doofery I use for text messaging can also be used for talking to people not in the room with you and I want to try that next. I am slightly worried that it may capture my soul and, after death, leave me wandering aimlessly in limbo, though. Any advice on how to avoid the eternal damnation thing would be appreciated. Is there an "ap" or something for that?

As for "rolf", I admit to appalling ignorance about message boards and such. I set up an email account in 1999 for a rather misguided trip to Mexico but that's it as far as social networking over the internet goes. I've only posted here and even the forum, when it was still going, looking a rather confusing place to be. Considering I get nervous in a room with patterned wallpaper, it was definitely not for me.

Oot, I'm pretty certain "St." is the shortened form of 'Saint' and would be pronounced as such. As for "Croix", does the new forum have any French members? You'd get a definitive answer off them if you ask there.

As for the text acronyms, maybe we need some of our own for this blog. (Uh oh, that sounds like a new game!!) What about NUATW - No Update Again This Week.

Haha, "ROLF" ;)

Hi Guys!
New game if you're interested....
'Premier League Heroes'
My definition of a PL Hero is a Superhero that is pretty much recognisable by 'Normals', ie. 'Those that don't do comics'
EG: Batman, Superman, WonderWoman...

So, for each of 'The Premier League' superheroes of The MU give your top 3 characters that should be included from their 'world'.
I'll go first...

CAPTAIN AMERICA:
Baron Strucker
Arnim Zola
MODOK

HULK
Rick Jones
Red Hulk
Xemnu The Living Titan

IRONMAN
Titanium Man
Whiplash
Ghost

THOR
Odin
Ymir
Destroyer

WOLVERINE
Cyber
Silver Samurai
Maverick

FANTASTIC FOUR (Collectively PL)
Trapster
Thundra
Diablo

SPIDERMAN
Tarantula
Hammerhead
White Tiger (orig.)

Bit controversial I suppose concerning who makes the PL in the MU...should The Punisher be included (3 movies 'VERY big in the 90s etc)?, Dr Strange? (don't think he's well known enough outside of comic fans personally), Silver Surfer? DareDevil? ('A' list, but not PL IMO).... anyone else?

Be very interested to see who you guys pick for the above categories, and if you want to add anyone to The Premier League.

Buck Cap looks REALLY good. Nice work DP.

You're obviously confused, DP. You did the correct Captain BRITAIN. Bucky Cap is NOT the real Captain America. Wrong guy and wrong costume.

You do good work, though. Can't argue with the quality of your mods.

Deadpool said...

Hi Robert thanks for the feedback. I know that Bucky isn't the real Captain America, but hey he does look kinda cool though.

And lets face it as a side kick he has really grown into the role.

I think CMFC should have done Steve Rogers in a similar way to the mod I've done in his original costume.

I hope I haven't hurt your feelings Robert by doing Bucky.
Or Do I? ...muhahahahaaaa

Have no fear, Deadpool, my feelings haven't been hurt since a toilet brush-tailed, nut-obsessed, squeaky-voiced, lumberjack-hating, flea-infested furball messed with the Mad God of Titan and somehow came out on top. But let's not get started on that again. I can already feel my teeth grind.

Anywho, I have to say that not only do you do a great job of recreating costumes, you also manage to make very dynamic mods. While in no way comparing my skills to your own (my mods are generally only repaints), I am thinking of turning Machine Man into the Recorder. Work, laziness and a list of outstanding DIY jobs are all that stand in my way...

Ted, just spotted this on the Marvel Masterworks Resource Home Page: "Art of Jim Starlin. Life In Words & Pictures."

After just finishing a book on Sal Buscema, and now seeing this, I think I have died and gone to heaven.

God is here and he keeps saying, "Excelsior!"

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

I will surely be purhasing that in the very near future Robert. To be honest i think i now read more books and mags about comic creators than actual comic books :)
Do you have the " approved by the cosmic code authority" issue?
silly question i know.

Robert said...

Yeh, it WAS a silly question. At least you didn't insult me by also asking what "Gemini" means...

I also recommend the Sal Buscema book if you haven't read it. Thoroughly enjoyed it and now understand why he changed certain aspects of his art over the years. Sal came across as a likeable guy, modest, loyal and conscientious. Although I knew that already from past interviews and the note he wrote to me.

Bob and Thor8, these books are right up your alley, too. Great to peek behind the curtain and see how the wizards perform their little miracles.

My name is Robert and I L-O-V-E COMICBOOKS!

Spidey #14 1st Gobbie
Avengers # 6 1st Masters of Evil.
Too mark the anniversary i hope we get the Melter to complete the original line up.
Right am aff tae soak ma dentures see yall Friday

Robert said...

On the subject of comics cover-dated the month of your birth, I have a really spooky coincidence, Ted.

The cover date for Amazing Spider-Man (Vol.1) #55 is the month and year I was born. The John Romita cover has a close-up of Doc Ock's glasses, with Spidey reflected in them.

Jump to October 1997. Issue number #427 of The Amazing Spider-Man recreated that cover - extreme close-up of Doc Ock with Spidey reflected.

Why is this a spooky coincidence? Go to the letters page of #427 and you'll find yours truly getting a No Prize from THE MAN himself! More proof, not that we need it, that He really is God...

#1 ROCKET-RACCOON!!! ROCKET-RACCOON!.... please & thank you....

Right then guys..seeing as my last game proved so 'popular' (heavy sarcasm, hiding the tears....), why not have a go at this one:

None of these guys have a major Arch-Enemy in the collection yet. Soooo... nominate who you think should be included to go with them...Simple.

Sub-Mariner
Dr.Strange
The Punisher
Ka-Zar
Cap Britain
Shang-Chi
Ironfist
Luke Cage
Ghost Rider
Black Panther

I wont even go first this time...

BD

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

You right Bob, some major villainy is needed, My tuppence worth.
Sub-Mariner - Attuma
Dr Strange - Baron Mordo
Punisher - Barracuda
Cap Britain - Slaymaster
Shangi-Chi - Black Jack Tar, a wee bit of a cheek, but i loved the Paul Gulacy BJT and he was Shang-Chi's sparring partner in their classic 1st appearance.
Iron fist- er?...chop suey the generic martial artist mince...or Hong Kong Fuey.
Luke Cage - Chemistro
Ghort Rider - The Orb
Black Panthr - Erik Killmonger

LAWay said...

I dont want villains or supporting characters from any of those on the list. Pretty much the important people in their lives are in the collection.

Attuma would be good, all others I just dont care.

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Just saw the latest Thor screenshot . I must say that Mr Helmsworth chap has " buffed" up nicely, He's positively "ripped" and other such terms i don't fully understand. It always amuses me when a non musclebound wrestler isn't cast in a Marvel movie all these keyboard warriors appear eveyhere dismissing the choice of actor due to their lack of steroid abuse.
Mind you it can't be easy typing and gulping down "Adonis" burgers at the same time.
Really hope for a sneaky peeky trailer, I've got everything crossed for this movie

Robert said...

I don't have an issue with the casting of Thor, Ted, but you have to admit the costume leaves a lot to be desired.

John said...

Sorry, BD. The last game just seemed so open, I felt like I'd be saying the same characters I'd been saying for months. I like this though, as it forces some variety.

Sub-Mariner: Orka

Dr. Strange: Nightmare (I find Baron Mordo very bland and am actually quit surprised how popular he is on the forum...)

The Punisher: The Russian. Not a big Punisher fan, but loved this character from the movie. ;)

Ka-Zar: Stegron. He'd look sweet. Though I'd actually put him next to the Spider-Man villains.

Luke Cage: Purple Man (they had a feud didn't they?)

Ghost Rider: Scarecrow or Jack 'O Lantern. I'm going to say Scarecrow, because the more I read about Marvel's Scarecrow, the cooler he becomes. And I think Jack 'O Lantern only fought him during Civil War, right?

I just don't know enough about the rest of the heroes to give an answer...
Captain Britain:
Shang-Chi:
Ironfist:
Black Panther:

Adding in...
Captain Mar-Vell: Nitro

Black Bolt: Maximus the Mad

Deadpool: Deadpool doesn't really have a rogues gallery, but he did recently have a good story arc with Tombstone.

Blade: Dracula

Silver Surfer: Ego the Living Planet

Nick Fury: Baron von Strucker

Scarlet Spider: Jackal

Hercules: ?
Deathlok: ?
Moonknight: ?
Beta Ray Bill: ?
Guardian (or just all of Alpha Flight) ?

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Robert, i understand your concern regarding Thor's costume , But it's almost impossible to make a judgement based on the airbrushed, shiny plasticness of the official screenshots .That is why i'm anxious to see it in the celluloid flesh.
I wasn't suggesting that you were one of the online doughnuts heaping scorn on Helmsworth due to the dudes lack of muscle..dude :)

Robert said...

I don't want an argument either, Ted. You ARE my favourite Dundonian muck-monster, after all!

Nothing would make me happier than to see a great Thor film and I was initially very hopeful when Branagh was announced as the director. His "Henry V" movie is brilliant and I defy anyone not to want to go to war after the St. Crispin Day speech. You know I don't enjoy being negative about Marvel, whether it be comicbooks or otherwise.

However, I am genuinely worried about the Thor movie based on what I have seen. Look at the Loki we'll get and then imagine a Loki like Eaglemoss gave us... How amazing would that have looked? Thor has the potential to be one of the most visually dazzling movies of all time. So far, what we have seen is as far from "dazzling" as you can get.

BobDiamond said...

Right then, I'll have a go at my own game.
Thanks to Ted and John for the contributions so far BTW.

Sub-Mariner- Attuma (Orca close second)

Dr.Strange- It was only after I posted, that I remembered that Doc already HAS his main nemesis included- Dormammu.
Anyway, I'll pick another- Nightmare (he has a very original and cool look)

The Punisher- Jigsaw

Ka-Zar (really difficult one) Should be his brother The Plunderer, but he's dull, so I'll go for Garokk The Petrified Man (very visual character)

Cap Britain- Slaymaster (The Fury, close second)

Shang-Chi- Zaran The Weapons-Master

IronFist- Steel Serpent (he would look excellent)

Luke Cage- (double) Discus and Stiletto (another difficult one)

Ghost Rider- I'm glad you came up with Scarecrow John, because I could only think of The Orb (like Ted), so I'll definitely go with The Scarecrow.

Black Panther- Eric Killmonger (Man-Ape would also be cool)

I'll continue with some of your additions John...

Nick Fury- Baron Strucker

Blade- Dracula

Silver Surfer- He's already got Mephisto, so I'll go with Badoon Emperor, as he fought them a lot in the early days.

Cap Marvel(MAR-VELL)- He sort of shares major baddy, Thanos with Adam Warlock.
I do think that Nitro is needed too however, due to his importance in Civil War and Mar-vell's death.

I'm going to add another myself...

Adam Warlock- Man-Beast (an excellent character, and it gives Warlock his own Master villain!)

I agree John, those others you mentioned are really difficult...maybe some of you guys could match a worthwhile bad-guy to them?

BD

Robert said...

Captain Britain - Hurricane. (Slaymaster was like a really bad version of Bullseye to me.)

As for Adam Warlock, I'd go for the Magus instead of Man-Beast. I know Man-Beast is Adam's main recurring nemesis and the Magus is actually Warlock's evil "shade". Still, we already have a wolfman (admittedly in a child's bathing costume) and the appearances of the Magus are so much more memorable. Only question is whether to go with electro-afro or ponytail. Being the classicist I am, I plump for the original!

As for the Surfer, I'm rereading volume 3 so I'll get back to you on that, Bob.

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Verily Robert we shall find oot soon enuff, And whether it be utter bollox or brilliance , I'm heading to one of those big city super megaplex 3d type thingies to enjoy it regardless.

LAWay said...

Fair dues, the thor dude has bulked up putting away fears of that muscle suit, and Loki wears his helmet in this film! Maybe they will show a teaser trailer at comic con after all this promo photos coming out.

Captain america sounds like a big change with the director doing his own thing with the character, not wanting to go down a patriotic route but make him a normal guy.

reason for no update? EM weening us off them preparing us for the inevitable cancellation so we dont suffer withdrawal too bad.

pirate adam said...

i am very pesamistic about the Thor movie, i want it to be awsome 'cos Thor is my fave character by absolute light years. i just have a niggly feeling in the back of my head that its going to suck the big one like the majority of Marvels other films. the only decent efforts IMO, the first X-Men, Blade 1+2 and the first Hulk (the one with Eric Banner not the shitty Norton one) and the IronMan films are truely fantastic.

i hope i am wrong about the Thor movie and that it is a resounding success. as for the Captain America film? guess i'll just wait and see

Good Day to you all

Considering you actually liked the first film, I would say you have pretty low standards and should enjoy Thor regardless. :P

I am worried Thor will turn into something like Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Alexander...you know, trying to be historic and epic, but just being boring.

Marvel do have a track record with films though, especially debuts. When Marvel moves in sequel territories, thats when things get messy on the few occasions.

Blob is gigantic! I think he's more Mega-size than Special. And Puppet-Master is a cool sculpt. Not easy with such a subtle character.

Got to agree with PA, I find it hard to really love the Spiderman films because I can't stand the guy they chose for Peter Parker. Spidey 2 was pretty good, if you can get passed that however.
One of the best Marvel films is the original Punisher with Dolph Lungren, despite the fact that it's universally panned.
Probably the worst major Marvel films have been The Fantastic Four ones, although they've got some good moments, but they lack the sheer grandeur of Stan's and Jack's vision, and seem cheap and 'plasticy' in comparison.
Obviously, Howard the Duck sucked, which was a a great shame, as I loved the comic book. Same goes for Man-Thing, should have been great, but totally unrecognisable to the source material.

BD

LAWay said...

Spiderman 1 & 2 are critically acclaimed and box office monsters. Sure, box office numbers dont mean a great film, but 5 star reviews across the board do.

Maguire was a bad peter parker, and I also blame the writers for not making him funny. How hard is it? The writers on the animated series do it for 26 half hour episodes, yet they cant do it for a 120 minute film?

The first Hulk was a mess of direction and narrative. It went for style and was awful. I loved the look of the Hulk, but the movie was pants, and universally hated, hence the reboot.

So...chances of update good tomorrow?

Robert said...

Gee, I must be the only person who actually liked Tobey MacGuire as Peter Parker. (A bit surprised, to be honest.)

Dont get me wrong Robert, Tobey is decent and a good actor. Not the best choice...his massive chin and pucker lips always annoyed me, or it could just be he got chubbier for the later films. Dunst annoyed me the most, not a great actress, they didnt write mary jane well, and she was just whiney, annoying, and not that pretty imo (in my opinion).
