Skurge in inglorius colour

SLIGHT TECHNICAL HITCH!
For those who wondered why the lights went out, the account was accidently de-activated by me.
But it's back now.

phew!

I'm sure all you conspiracy theorists out there had your own ideas why it went down?

adieu.

.......................................................

Hi peops here are the Skurge paints, it's got a nice realism to it...

Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Andie Tong's Constrictor cover roughs...

We went with this one. Looking forward to the full masterpiece!

BTW here's my mock-up for Diamond Previews Catalog (I had to supply them a cover way before we actually commissioned it!) Nice piece by Ed McGuiness from official toy packaging, doesn't really work as a CMFC cover as his hand goes under the logo too much, but it was perfect for a mock-up.

I actually tried to order the hi-res art file from Marvel, but they didn't have it - I suppose it's held by the toy company (?) I would have used it for page 2...

...here's the toy packaging...
...and here's the actual google image of the inks that I coloured up for my mock -up (interesting to see it was originally drawn the other way round and they flipped it!)
Bye for now. Dan

Wow Skurge looks fantastic ! Hats off to all concerned.

Love the weathering on the leather breastplate and leggings and the colours really pop too.

I'll be interested to see how good a job they do in mass production, if the factory paint budget cant capture all the detail in the sculpt at least its there for a future repaint. How good is that Asgardian plinth going to be !!

Are you sure you couldnt squeeze the Warriors 3 in somewhere Dan ?

Anyone had issue 2 of the EM Star Trek collection yet ? I checked back and its about 40 days since the first pack arrived. Getting a bit worried especially after the large Spidey line got canned before it started. Dan have you heard anything ?

Yeah, i agree. a splendid sculpt and paint job indeed!

i've followed this blog, pretty much from its inception, and tend to agree with the majority of the comments made by the regulars.

I can probably count on one hand the amount of comments i've posted over the years; i tend to just read the coments of others, at my desk when i'm at work pretending to look busy ;) or on my lunch break maybe.

Its a refreshing change from the usual banter between (most) friends at home or colleagues at work. There's not many places you can go and chat to like minded people about your love and enthusiasm for superheroes in general. You might see the odd person in a Superman 'S' t-shirt from time to time and you might find yourself in the rare opportunity to strike up a conversation with that person - only to be let down when you realise they only bought the t-shirt because they "like that film with that bloke in.. what's his name again.. Cristofer Reid?..." haha!

Anyway; what i'm trying to say is; it's a laugh reading the comments on here from you guys. Keep it fresh!

Cheers!!

Lord this sculpt is great. It has to be the #1 special in this whole colection. Seeing it makes me want The Warrriors Three all the more

Banshee said...

WOW oh WOW!!! Skurge kicks ass!!! What a fantastic last minute entry. Im so glad you guys at the towers chose him. Seeing how great he is takes the sting of not getting Lockjaw away :)

The Constrictor cover is top notch too. This collection has gone from strength to strength. Lord knows what I'm going to spend my spaere cash on without it :(

Osvaldoeaf said...

Skurge is a masterpiece, unfortunately, as we all know by now, that is not what the final product we get will look like!

Banshee said...

To be honest 99% of all the figurines I've received have been perfect (and yes I have them all) The only real issue with a couple like Nico and Aurora for example was the paint between the fingers forming a clubbish kind of hand. A nail file easily solved that problem.

Robert said...

Looks fantastic. Like Toon, I'm slightly anxious about the quality matching these images. To be honest, it's so good it looks like it could be twice the size. The amount of detail and the standard of paint job is quite incredible.

And hi to David, our friendly stalker! ;)

Simon West said...

I think I'm a minority but I'm just really not really excited for skurge at all. personally i'd have prefer something a little different (none human shape maybe)like groot, but hey ho. i'll still add it to the colleciton, just on a low down/bottom shelf so its out of the way :(

Jacadoo said...

First a home run with Hela, now you smash the ball out of the park with Skurge!!!

Just cannot wait to have him on my shelf.

Skurge of excellence !!

The Warriors Three would sell well if someone decided to make them , hint hint Dan !!

As we've got Skurge (well done), now STRONG GUY please as next special :)

What a fantastic figure Skurge makes...Personally speaking since Spidey all the figures have been painted OK...
Mr Hyde/Cobra first & final super villain double pack please
Lockjaw last special please
High Evolutionary,Mantis,Grey Gargoyle as a special surprise please
Thank you.

TheTooN said...

Strong Guy............sheeeesh!

LAWay said...

Skurge looks fantastic, I hope my painted figure looks as good as that. Admittedly I didnt care much when the announcement was made, but now I am excited for the character and reading up on him.

Andie Tong again hits it out the part, and once he finalizes and colours the cover it'll be awesome. I also love the mock-up you used as I bought that Marvel Legend Constrictor and thought the artwork was brilliant. Dont think you could have flipped the image yourselves as the CMFC logo is pretty big and would probably hit him in the head unless you fiddled around and cut that over it, but nevermind, doesnt matter, its not the final cover.

BLAKENEWMAN2002 said...

Dan,
have you had a chance to reconsider the Hela paint job so she can have fully white eyes? I know you're busy and some of our posts do not exactly warrant a response, but I think that the matter of Hela's eyes deserves a response, don't you think? Not 'cause I raised the point. Other people have raised it too. It's just that Hela with human eyes is, well, wrong. You wouldn't paint normal eyes on Daredevil's mask, so why do this for Hela who is not even human!
If we could have your opinion, and hopefully a solution, please?

BLAKENEWMAN2002 said...

Oh, and did I mention Hela needs fully white eyes?

Apart from that, Skurge is totally phenomenal. The quality of these recent figurines, it's just unbelievable. A stellar job, Dan.
Thanks for pushing one last special.

tinodragon14 said...

Thanks for the great update Dan.

Skurge looks GREAT! A Well Done to the painters. A fine companion for the Enchantress figure.

I recently got my Sebastian Shaw, JJJ & Sif figures & I am happy with all three. The figures are well painted. I also got the mojo special as I said I would even though I hate the character because EM picked Skurge. Well I must say I am impressed with the work on the mojo figure.

I agree with The Postman about EM doing its first & only villain two-pack special of The Cobra & Mr. Hyde. They are longtime classic villains who have battled most of the heroes in the Marvel U either together or alone or members of other groups like The Serpent Squad or The Masters of Evil. Come on Dan ask EM to do them. Show them pics of the characters & their long list of appearances.

As a British company EM should be ashamed that with England's long contribution to Dragon culture it never did a special of the character called DRAGONMAN.

zombiedude13 said...

How did it work out that the last regular is an Asgardian fig, and tyhe Last Special is an Asgradian fig? And both of them are so good I want multiples of each?

TELL ME!!!

zombiedude13 said...

All I know is, I'm very saddened that EM is dropping Marvel and doing Star Trek. I really hoped they might do a Doctor Who line.

All I know is I will NOT under any circumstances purchase a Marvel Chess set.

ANSWER: NUMBER THREE

Although all are bad, John. Too late, and despite folk pointing it out, this collection woke up to the Asgardians. I mean, who needs a classic Lee-Kirby creation when there's Silver Sable and Blink to make?! Huge, huge mistake and missed opportunity that the Warriors Three are not part of this collection.

Blog Master Dan said...

Hela's eyes will remain as they are, if we had time we may reconsider but as you know we waited a long time for that babe to be sculpted and we plain ran out of production time to make tweaks - luckily it is an amazing sculpt,

EM are currently working on a number of new exciting projects so don't think you know what we have in the pipeline ;)

TheTooN said...

Yaaayy ! Good to see you back Dan, I thought it was only a technical hitch but was slightly worried it could be something else.

Never mind what EM has in the pipeline wheres my Starships ? ;)

bethrezen said...

I need Strong Guy!!! Please!

Banshee said...

Hooray we're back. That was worrying. I think Hela's eyes are fine. It like you said Dan, if people want them white it'd be pretty easy to do yourself. I for one won't change here. She's perfect.

TheTooN said...

ARRGGHHH ! Joe over on the SHFF just said he noticed the Star Trek Starships collection website now says its due to launch early 2013. What sort of company delays a collection for 6 months and doesnt tell its existing customers ? Its not like they dont have my email !!

LAWay said...

glad it was just a technical problem, thought it was nothing much.

Man, there better be a blog when you guys launch new products. We had a glimpse of what it was like without the blog and i didnt like it. ^_^

SinisterVenom said...

I'm glad the blog hasn't truly disappeared yet and hope it never will for quite a long time yet! Sorry but I'm not ready to say goodbye just yet! But I will ask that if the blog ever does decide to vanish forever that we are given some time to post some final comments and all that! (Still hoping that it never does but you know)
I have to echo what Leigh said though. These past 48 hours or so without the blog was horrible! I really hope we get another blog to hang out on. That way we can save our goodbyes and still be able to communicate with each other! :)
Oh yes, and as I have not commented on him yet, Skurge looks absolutely stunning! It makes me all the more sad that the collection is ending. Please let's squeeze one more special in again EM? I understand people wanting Strong Guy to complete X-Factor but I personally would like either Lockjaw or the Groot/Rocket Raccoon special instead. Especially with Guardians of the Galaxy coming out soon! We'd only have Drax and Gamora from that otherwise!
Constrictor's design's look fab too! Nice work there! Have we had Spider-Man 2099 and Deathbird's covers yet? Those two and Hela's are the ones I really wanna see but I won't ask for Hela yet as we've only recently just seen her figurine.
SV

Ryan Maxwell said...

Welcome back! Beautiful paints on Skurge. Can whoever did that work come over and paint some of my customs?

Jacadoo said...

Dan dude no more surprises like that again!!

The very thought of not being able to say goodbye to all the crowd on ths blog was too much to bare!

So good to be back and all that, just please stay longer this time.

Thor8 said...

Great! You're back! It was a big bummer to find the blog was gone, and to make it worst I didn't get the chance to say my goodbyes.,but a tiny voice inside kept me checking just in case and here we are.

I really didn't get to say much about Skurge,so I'll let you know he is at the head of my want list. I believe he even out-does Hela. Seeing figurines(especially asgardian ones)made so spectacularly makes me want The Warriors Three even more.

Could'nt EM consider a project of producing a series of specials once a month or even once bi-monthly? That way we could get some very needed and wanted specials such as......

1)Hogun and Fandral double pack
2)Volstagg special
3)Destroyer special
4)Attuma special
5)Cobra and Hyde double pack
6)Maximus and Lockjaw double pack
7)Titanium Man special
8)Ulik special
9)Mangog special
10)Blastarr special
11)Super Adaptoid special
12)Strong Guy Special
13)Youndu and Martinex double pack
14)Charlie 27 and Nikki double pack
15)Starhawk and Aleta double pack
16)Dragon Man special
17)Atlas mega
18)Baron Mordo and Clea double pack
19)Hyperion and Doc Spectrum double pack
20)Heimdall Special

Price adjustments could be made and it could be advertised as a seperate collection with a different logo. Is there some way this could be presented to the EM big honchos for consideration?

Oh! Just as a side note for the rest of the bloggers. The above list is just an example. I'm not saying that those that appear in said list ae the ones or the only ones to be made.

SinisterVenom said...

Dan and EM I have a question regarding the Longshot figurine.
Someone over at the forum (Username: Dark Matter) has mentioned that his Longshot figurine is missing the yellow star painted on his left eye. I read this and thought I had best check mine. To which I have noticed that mine too is also missing the star. I never noticed before as I was in a rush for work when I first got him. I just went onto the CMFC main site to look at the Longshot figurine on there and you can clearly see that he was meant to have come with the star on his face.
What's the deal here? :(
SV

BLAKENEWMAN2002 said...

Indeed, I have the same question. I checked in various stores and I couldn't see a single Longshot fig with the painted star on his face.
It's a pity, as it was such a nice detail. So now I really need to learn how to paint as I want Longshot's star and Hela's white eyes.

But seriously, what happened to the Longshot star??? It was well visible in the preview of the fig.

Other than that, I'm really excited about EM's new projects and I foresee more Marvel products that we're going to love.

LAWay said...

Can I get a job on the EM marvel development team pretty please? :)

Would mean you get figurines for free, and earlier than anyone else too. ;)

Skurge looks fantastic, I love how all the Asgardians have turned out and mourn the absence of the Warriors Three and Heimdall. why oh why oh why wasn't The Jackal made, He's such an integral part of Spidey's history his omission is shocking, especially with chracters such as Blink and X-man included.
Dan what about a Jackal/Tombstone double pack?
it's always worth a punt, even at this late stage

Glad to have you back Dan. Great way to pass the time while looking busy at my desk as David said :) Skurge looks amazing. Too bad I have to wait another year and half to get him, but at least the collection will continue for a while longer for me than you chaps in the UK. Keep up the good work (fingers still crossed!)

Thor8 said...

Each time I enter this blog and study Skurge's figurine,I seem to find more and more detail in it. This figurine is definately the best of the best. The details on the facial expresion, the nashing teeth, the crazy looking eyebrows, the details on the boots, sleeves, etc. I just can't et over how well done this and Hela's figurines turned out. The Asgardians section of my collection is definately the highlight of my display. EM just has to think of someway of giving us The Warriors Three,Heimdall,Karnilla,Destroyer,Ulik,Surtur,Mangog, and Tyr.

Blog Master Dan said...

The star is infact there, but it's so subtle as to be almost invisible! the yellow merges very closely with the flesh tone.

This is obviously something that has evaded our attention and slipped in to the production process.

It was my 29th birthday on Wednesday, Sep 19.
the earliest email exchange i can find between me and marvel@jacklineterprises was sent on 07-Sep-2005 - so i've been collecting/subscribing for more than 7 years (1/4 of my life) commiting to every issue, special, binder and plinth without question.

To think, i must have lined Mr Eagle and Mr Moss's pockets with so much of my hard-earned cash in that time. And they haven't even made one of my all-time favourite characters - Nova (Frankie Raye)... gutted!!

haha never mind - you can't win em all..

Skif said...

Skurge one of my favorite! great job!

Blog Master Dan said...

David, Happy 29th Birthday!
If it's any consolation Frankie Ray was penciled in for inclusion in the 240+ extension, which unfortunately will never come to pass. :{

Banshee said...

Ha! Talk about sticking the boot in Dan LOL! Any chance you can torment us a little more and let us know who else was provisionally looked at for inclusion?

BLAKENEWMAN2002 said...

What's heart-breaking is that Dan, pretty much like us, was optimistic & passionate about the continuation of the CMFC well beyond issue 240, and he had already started to choose/research the characters.

I would have loved to see more characters created under Dan's direction. Just look at the last 20 figurines, including Hela as the last one, and Mojo, Giant-Man and now Skurge. These figurines are as beautiful as Bowen works, in my opinion, and that's a stellar achievement.

Dan, I hope you will become curator of other Marvel projects.

LAWay said...

Same birthday as my older brothers, belated happy birthday David. A kick in the crotch as your favourite character was so close yet so far away.

David said...

Many Thanks for the Birthday wishes!

yes, it's a shame Zenn-La's own man of silver will forever have an empty square next to him on the plinth but...

Where soars the Silver Surfer…. There he must soar… alone!

Thor8 said...

So many many characters that could have been and yet will never be,what a shame. Just yesterday I added red Hulk to my collection and I'm still working on finishing The Phantom Rider. I'm searching for some adecuate figurines that I might turn into The Warriors Three and I'm considering DC's Green Arrow for Fandral. They will never come close to looking as magnificient as Skurge,Beta Ray,or Hela, but I still need and want them in my collection.

Dan are there any Marvel based projects in the works that you can inform us about?

Jacadoo said...

Dan oh dan, to echo my pal thor8 what next, just a clue please along the lines 2000@d would be a toughie!!

Maybe a possibility to extended the collection is divide in family for a few charachters, example:

Spidey family:
Jackal, Mary Jane and other...

Mutants family:
Hope? there are a lot of carachters.

Asgardian Family:
Hogun/Fandral/Volstagg

Avengers Family:
Maybe two enemies and one member(Sersi?)

Cosmic Family:
Mantis, Starhawk, and another one.

Marvel Knights:
One of the Withe Tiger, Lady Bullseye...

Specials:
Kane, Onslaught, Surtur, Red Hulk, Eternity and others.

tinodragon14 said...

Oh Dan I don't how knowing Nova was penciled in after 240 is the least bit consoling. It would just make me curse the powers that be at EM.

I don't know why EM would not just extend doing specials one every month next year so they could do a few more classic characters like
ATTUMA
The Cobra & Mr. Hyde
Blastaar
DRAGONMAN
Titanium Man
Archangel
Volstagg & Fandral
The Mad Thinker & his Awesome Android
Hogun & Heimdall
The Super Adaptoid & Mimic
Lockjaw
The Living Monolith

One special a month would be great Tino. As I mentioned in a previous post I would even settle for 1 every other month although at that rate they would probably have to place the last few on my coffin, but chances of this collection being continued seems to be very very thin. it's more probable for a new Marvel based series to be introduced (hopefully in scale with this one) where EM can re-present the big guns in diffrent poses and in some cases diffrent uniforms (like modern Thor and original Drax) and also inclued characters that were left out of this series like USagent,Whirlwind,Attuma,Baron Mordo,THE WARRIORS THREE,Jackal,etc.etc.etc. Woud becool, don't you think?

fredpostman said...

Dear tinodragon 14,
i would buy them all!

SinisterVenom said...

I would buy all from Tino's list too. Take note Dan, still some money to be made here haha ;)
I just realized a sad thought. Besides the two specials coming up, there's only 15 more figurines left to collect...well, for me anyway. Things getting more real by each figurine I pick up :(

2000AD Please Dan/EM !! I'll admit to not seing Dredd yet, at 44 my movie buddies are limited and comic book heroes are right on the boundary of geekdom in their eyes. Having said that I have yet to see 'anyone' saying they didnt love the film, fans of the franchise or not.

A 2000ad collection would surely be a hit at home ? 30+ years to build up a fan base + a modern hit at the box office...... Zarjaz !! ;)

Dredd/Strontium Dog/Rogue Trooper/ABC Warriors and Slaine could make an amazing run of 60+ issues.

In the immortal words of Picard (before he learned to say anything was "EPIC") MAKE IT SO !!!

And back to the CMFC I'd buy all of Tino's list too. Flogging a dead horse I know but we can dream.

Victor said...

I'd buy all of CMFC from any future list too.

och! it's frustrating that you are producing sculpts of absolute stunning quality and still this collection is coming to an end. Get the CMFC trending on Twitter ( i actually don't know what that would entail) , spread the word , make the next special such a huge sales success, that EM release a few more before the end.
Saw the Barda mag cover from the DC collection, loved it so bought the fig, Kirbytastic sculpt.

yes i too would love to do a Toothy/Dredd collection - it has been mentioned in the past with no interest, but with the new Dredd film doing well, it may be worth a re-visit.

Oh, we're back on! Thought this blog was gone for good.

Loved David's "Where soars the Silver Surfer…. There he must soar… alone!" Brilliant stuff.

Toon, why do you need company? I biked it down to a cinema and then was able to pretend I was Dredd on his Lawmaster on the way home, growling "Ma-Ma's not the law! I'M the law!" as I merrily weaved about.

P.S. I thought the film was good, probably very good, but nothing great.

"I can't tell you what the next Marvel collection EM is doing"

OK, but can you at least explain why. is it because...?
1. There won't be one
2. EM is hoping to do one, but haven't worked out the details
3. EM has worked out the details, and sworn you to secrecy
4. EM has worked out the details, and not told you

BLAKENEWMAN2002 said...

Guys, I am no prophet - but mark my words when I say that there will be a new incarnation of the CMFC based on a slightly different business model. I've been saying it for a long time, and I performed a variety of rituals (including the sacrifice of some DC figurines, hammered to pieces in a holy temple in Katmandu) to propitiate the gods and ensure that a new CMFC will see the light of day. When this happens, I want to be crowned CMFC High Priest. I want a big CMFC figurine base to be produced for me to stand on in a majestic pose. All this, when the new CMFC will be launched. Because it will happen.

BLAKENEWMAN2002 said...

... and that's my shakespearean talk, folks, when I feel like a Marvel character. ;)

But hey, Dan
You can't tell us WHAT,

Because we know it will happen.

I look at going to the cinema on my own the same as I would going out for a drink, just not something I'd do. I'm also not one for paying to see lots at the flicks when I pay Sky over £100 a month. I'm just pleased to be able to go to the Marvel ones with my nipper now he's old enough. I hate 3D too, Thor was so dark and blurry at times, or is it just my rheumy old eyes ;)

I'll echo the good wishes to Stan, he's a bionic man now which is rather fitting :)

I'd like to have some idea of what was coming next from EM but fully understand the need to keep a lid on it. If its a new Marvel product surely it will start over with the big names in a slightly different format/scale. Whilst I was all for the large scale resin Spidey (and a few others) I dont know how I would cope with regards to space. I'll probably relegate some of the CMFC lesser lights at some point but right now theres nothing out there that takes my fancy.

Robert said...

Hi, Toon. I hate 3D, too. The sooner that fad goes away the better.

I actually quite like going out myself to see films. I'll be seeing Looper on my tod, too. Soon as my wife saw it being compared to The Matrix, she told me in no uncertain terms I'm on my own! Maybe the next project of Em, is a chess collection, that propose famous charachters, and others who aren't published? Like the Dc chess collection?

mmm... I think that it's possible.

LAWay said...

I'm gonna see Looper maybe next week or the week after, looks brill. Love an intelligent sci-fi flick.

Dan hinting at future mysterious marvel products hmmmmm. As long as the quality is CMFC level or higher, then I'm on board.

If its like DC chess...I'll pass.
3D sculpts havent translated too well, and metallic paint looks terrible. Personal opinion of course.

No, we're not the same person.

Robert said...

Are you sure?

I was Bob Diamond, Ted and Robert and I didn't even know it until Mad Thinker pointed it out to me.

TheTooN said...

So whats next for us ? I know Dan cant tell us but other than a new figurine collection or chess sets I'm struggling to think whats on the EM burner.

Is anyone out there actually collecting the DC chess set ? Or want to ? How about Marvel ones ? I like chess but to be brutally honest I dont see the attraction of an EM chess set, Marvel or DC.

Maybe its due to the part work nature and the time it takes + worry about completing it. If I saw a complete set in a shop it might be a different story but part work doesn't do it for me.

That leaves another figurine collection. CMFC is fantastic but how could it be improved ? Dans mentioned that 60 issues is what EM look for in a new partwork so scale must be a factor. I can honestly say I dont have space for 60 odd 5-6 inch figurines without losing my CMFC.

I wouldnt be surprised if we dont find out what the new collection is until very late in this final CMFC extension. An early announcement may have people jumping ship or just not buying either in disgust. We are a fickle bunch after all :)

CGJ said...

A chess set would seem most likely, the LOTR ones in Previews looks nice, although I'm not sure if that is an EM product

Robert said...

If they bring out a chess set the thing will be completely useless to some folk on here.

tinodragon14 said...

I started the Batman chess set but stopped after seeing the characters that would be coming out on the good guy side. Just did not care about the choices enough to buy them. I have the Batman, Robin & Commissioner Gordon pieces & since they foolishly never did Gordon on the DC Collection I'm glad I got him. Only got Joker, Penguin, Scarecrow & Mr. Freeze on the bad guy side & Freeze is a more modern look & will look nice next to the DC Collection Freeze.

If they do a Marvel chess set I won't buy it. Heck I bought enough duplicates of the Marvel Collection to do my own using a generic board if I played chess anymore.

EM should have run the DC Collection long enough to do The Parasite, Weather Wizard, Commissioner Gordon & the rest of the Metal Men.

More importantly EM should have run the Marvel Collection until at least 250. Since they killed it they could still do Specials every month for another year or two & do single specials or double packs or Mega Specials & do some or all of them in resin. I have listed these before but I still think it is a damn good idea Dan especially with the high quality figure you guys are putting out now.

ATTUMA
Archangel
The Cobra & Mr. Hyde
DRAGONMAN perhaps with his creator Diablo
Fandral & Volstagg
Hogun & Heimdall or
Hogun & The Destroyer &/or
Heimdall & Ulik
The Living Monolith
Star-Hawk & Yondu
Black Goliath
Frankenstein's Monster
The Super Adaptoid & Mimic
The Mad Thinker & his Awesome Android
Air-Walker & Nova
Lockjaw
Baron Mordo & Nightmare
Whirlwind & The Melter
The Ghost Rider on his flaming bike
The Green Goblin on his bat glider
Titanium Man perhaps with Ironman in his classic armor
Stilt-Man
The Red Ghost & his Super Apes
The Wrecking Crew
The Silver Surfer on his board
The Grandmaster
A hydra agent & an A.I.M. scientist
Blizzard & Whiplash
Doom 2099 & Bloodhawk
Molten Man & Tombstone
The Scarecrow & Mr. Fear
The Ringmaster & Princess Python
Thundra
Sunspot & Dust
The Silver Samurai & The Grey Gargoyle
Box & Marrina
Mantis & Immortus
Jigsaw & the Punisher in his original costume

Dan no thank you for any marvel chess set. Simply not interested and as I hear the DC chess set is not doing as we'll as expected.

I would however support one special a month or any other offering of continuing this excellent collection.

Roberto got to say I had a days holiday to go see the new Dredd movie and was really glad I did.

Dan please reason with the powers that be in EM towers a 2000ad collection would be well received in the Jacadoo household - does anybody remember ace trucking?

Hmmmm, I agree on a chess set, not that fussed. My worry is the quality being consistent and whether it will last long enough for it to be completed.

What unique options does that leave EM?

Either to do it in artist's drawing style/different scale/Make some sort of game out of the figurines/Film license (which will be tricky since so many different studios hold each character's license, unless somehow it does all fall under marvel - and EM does use the LOTR license so it isn't afraid to splash out the bucks).

It will be interesting to see, but it could also be like marmite surprising fans with something new. Should they be consulted?

Victor said...

"Victor/Bethrezen/Deamon Triplets ? the same guy ?"

No, we're not the same person.

I'm from PORTUGAL.

TheTooN said...

Deamon/Victor/Bethrezen - Apologies to you guys if you thought I was being nasty, just poking fun :) Read your comments on this weeks blog and you will see what I mean.

You could commission Strong Guy customs if you want him so bad ? I'd like more figs too as would many others but its unlikely. Also the CMFC is dead/dying, its no use saying no to new products, imo that attitude helped speed up the end with peoples blinkered attitudes to redos. Who knows, we could have had another extension if we had embraced a new improved Wolverine, Modern Thor, Hulkbuster Iron Man etc. Lets be honest, EM's abilities today mean those 'redos' would likely have meant the original sculpts going into storage or put to the back of the display.

Anyhoo ! Sorry if I rubbed you up the wrong way fellas.

LAWay said...

Agree with what you said Toon. Expressing stubborn responses of refusing to buy certain characters/threatening to cancel or quit/say you wont buy another marvel EM product would only put EM off making anything more Marvel, and with fickle fans that express such views it surely isn't going to continue making a long running series if fans can flip so easily.

Anyway, heard Judge Dredd is doing well at all in America, may scrape $10 million in 2 weeks, global box office is something like $20million if they are lucky. Better hope the dvd sales boost it, but judging by these, people don't really care for Dredd.

Unless Stallone really put the yanks off him.

Thor8 said...

Dan I understand the reasons why you can't answer my inquiry about EM's fuutre Marvel projects, but at least from what you said,it seems there will be one. I(just like Blake)am hoping to see a new collection of figurines in the CMFC scale with the big guns in new poses and costumes, plus highly requested characters that were left out of this collection such as The Warriors Three Whirldwind,Baron Mordo,Attuma, and many many others. If not a monthly special would help to ease the pain of this collectin's cancelation.

I agree that saying no to future projects in not the way to go about this. Lets at least wait to see what EM has to offer before we say yay or nay.

TheTooN said...

Just had a quick browse of a couple of movie sites after reading that.

Some interesting reader comments were that the 18 age rating + the fact it was 3D only hurt it badly. Another site said that Septembers overall US box office was the lowest in a decade with the highest grossing movie pulling in only $13m or double Dredd 3D's total. Resident Evil: Retribution only managed $400k more than Dredd. Overall consensus seems to be that it will be very lucky to break even. Still not read any negative comments from people who have seen it though. It got a B rating from US moviegoers.

Not good figures however you want to dress it up. Drokk it !

Robert said...

Toon, a lot of things coming together affected Dredd. I'm a big Dredd fan and even someone like me was worried by the delays in releasing it, the small budget, the limited premise, etc. Add to that the 3D only, 18 certificate, the timing (the cinema worker told me the same thing: it was a very quiet month), relative lack of advertising and you're not talking big hit. The reverse in fact. Sad, though, very sad.

bethrezen said...

I say NO for redos, new-projeckt because I do not want to buy again, Spiderman, Ironman, Hulk, Thor, etc. I already have them on the shelf. For this reason, I have not bought a Black Spider-Man, Ironman Movie and variants with CMFC and do not buy Giant-Man. I am interested only new characters.

Victor said...

I'd always said YES for redos.

LAWay said...

Just deleted my comment regarding redos. Dont wanna go down that road again since everyone seems to be getting along. ^_^

I thought Dredd has been marketed well in the UK, but in the US I have heard it has been pretty quiet.

Did the 3D hurt it? Some people are stubborn and refuse to see a 3D film (or some cant see it due to their vision). But alternatively, some 3D movies do well.

The 18 certificate doesnt help for a mass audience, but then thats what the fans want to stay true to the source material. Kick-Ass was an 18 and it made a load of money.

I read is wasnt exactly small budget at $40 million. I just think there isn't much of an international audience for Dredd, and the UK fans of him either aren't ones to spend their money in the cinema or are more likely just to download it off the internet.

Fingers crossed the fans come out and buy the dvd. I will be.

Add to that the dozens of characters that were left out of this collection and we have an awesome new series to collect. (Especially if it's made in the same scale). So c'mon EM bring them on. (You know you want to).

Jacadoo said...

On the Dredd front I really think they could have got away without the 3d but to do Dredd justice I'm glad they stayed true to the violence of mega city one.

Probably not the best business model but for me a true reflection of the comic book stories.

I really hope they push on with the proposed next two movies, as I understand ending with the dark judges.

Mmmm... but if the chess sets, are dividing for families snd their enemies?

16 piece for every family and 16 for their enemies there aren't a bad idea.

A lot of new charachters, especially villains, that don't have published in CMFC collection.

Otherwise, the sculpt of everyone, of all pieces of chess, didn't too different to actual collection of Marvel charachters.

I think that is a good idea, and maybe an opportunity for reboot the CMFC in another version.

Eagle(moss), your projects, not just about superheroes Marvel and DC, are very beautiful, and recall and touch the chords of every fan of each well crafted collection, and even fans ot the subject of the project.

Your ratings are for the best attention to the market, and you probably noticed the immense success of Marvel Superheroes argument.

well, maybe there is no need to continue with a collection already very long and however appropriate to every connoisseur, but leaving other possibilities for the same type of user, in my opinion, is really stupid.

So, I think that something very similar or at least related to CMFC, you already in the pipeline.

Hoping not to be wrong, I say goodbye until next time... :)

Thor8 said...

I would like to see more than anything the continuation of this collection as well Roberto, but I don't think calling EM stupid is going to help things. I know many of us don't mean to be disrespectful when we use terms like stupid, dumb, hate, etc.but maybe we should try to think twice how we frase things when we wish to give our opinion on things. I think people are more willing to listen and consider ones opinion and advice when instead of saying "I think that is a very dumb idea, you should do this instead" one says "I really believe this would be a better solution for so and so project, what do you think?" My dad used to say "You catch more flys with honey than with vinegar".
Hope I'm not laying this on too thick!

EM you have done an excellent job,and we your loyal customers would just love to see a follow up to this collection.

Eagle said...

In my opinion, because we, the people who pay for the articles that Eaglemoss produces, do not express ourselves in the way that some os us, surely, would like, is the reason why the management of Eaglemoss act in a way that concerned companies should not treat their Customers.
I am not saying that the management of Eaglemoss do not have the right to make their own decisions and end the collection but I do not appreciate they in which they did it.
I hope that I have not been too disrespectful.

Unknown said...

thor8, I shall quote this passage in my speech:

"well, maybe there is no need to continue with a very long and collection Already However appropriate to every connoisseur, but leaving other possibilities for the same type of user, in my opinion, is really stupid.

So, I think That something very similar or at least related to CMFC, You Already in the pipeline. "

in this "thought" there's all the respect I have for the Eaglemoss, which credited the right decision of choosing to close the collection, and to have something in the works related to the Marvel characters.

Why Eaglemoss is far from stupid, and perhaps, considering that my English is not perfect, because I'm not English, the subtlety between my thought and translated, it was noted, and has not been transcribed as exact.

Moreover thor8, your note, about education, it is right, and I agree.

Unknown said...

eagle, I thought you were talking on behalf of Eaglemoss, maybe if there's a stupid I am :)

Eagle said...

Roberto: Don´t worry, I considered your comments pertinent and I am convinced that many other collectors feel the same way that you do.

Thor8 said...

NO Roberto, you are not stupid. You and everyone else on this blog have the right to express their opinion. As you stated,English is not your native language and it can sometimes be hard for you to find the words to express what you feel in this language, heck it's hard for those of us whom in fact DO speak the language,so don't worry too much about it.

Eagle: I truly know where your comming from mate. I didn't like the way this collection ended either, and I believe we all have the right to feel as we feel. Let's just hope EM"s administrators take note of this and gives us a similiar collection where we can aquire those characters we weren't able to get in this one.

Which leads to the following question: If EM were to give us a new marvel collection would you prefer.........

A)more figurines
B)something else

If you chose (A) would you prefer

1) In scale with the current collection or...
2) A new scale

If you chose (B) what would you like to see done?

If a new line of figurines are done in scale with this one would you prefer.....

A) All new characters
B) New characters with re-do's of some characters in new poses and\or costumes.

Make your chices and blog in people.

Jacadoo said...

Hi robert defiantly on for meeting p for the pint!!

Is anybody going to the memrobilia fair at the NEC in Birmingham in November?

I'm going always a great show.

LAWay said...

Yeh its a bit silly trying to personally insult EM but it wont do anything. If they made money from Marvel, they are not going to refuse making another Marvel product because a few bloggers called them names. But hopefully, more importantly, they will have noted any sort of suggestions people have mentioned and take it on board for their next project.

As for Thor8's questionnaire...

A)more figurines

I cant imagine what else they could do Marvel wise, but yeah, I just want characters.

1) In scale with the current collection or...

I would prefer the same scale. My main reasoning is any bigger and it would be too expensive to collect surely, and any smaller and I would worry about the quality of the sculpt.

If EM could get the detail of top level warhammer figurines then I wouldnt mind that scale. WOuld be fun to then use those figurines in board games and rps. I think its an ideal scale, but like I said, its an unknown at the moment, can they pull it off? Heroclix is around the same scale, and they dont look very good, so play it safe, keep the same scale.

B) New characters with re-do's of some characters in new poses and\or costumes.

The collection can't be sustained with just 'all new' characters. That is essentially what the CMFC is now, and its being cancelled. It has to be redos and new characters mixed in, like I have said countlessly, just like every other marvel product does. The likes of Marvel Legends and Marvel Universe, 75% of characters are usually new, so its not something to be scared of and its a system that works.

I wouldnt want more than 1 red and blue spider-man, but would be happy with more than one spider-man if he is wearing a different costume and in a different pose. I think thats the future.

It would be nice if EM could get either a consistent style like bowen or out favourite CMFC figurines. We know a few figurines end up a bit naff, while some are real gems, most of which done by the same person. It would probably be an inefficient approach, but having that safety of style that each one will be a real looker would put collector's minds at ease to subscribe.

My 2 cents.

Victor said...

I quote and I think this is probably new project with more chance to another exploit to confirm the popularity of Marvel charachters.

Thor8 said...

I prefer (A) more figurines in scale with the current collection and (B) to the 2nd question. As LAWay said,I don't believe a second collection based on just new figurines would go to far.

Some re-do's I would like to see are:

1)Mordern Thor
2)Battle Armour Thor
3)Original Drax (not the oversized dumb one)
4)Original costumed Havoc
5)A better sculpted Crystal
6)Classic Armour Iron Man
7)Classic Doc Ock
8)White Gown Mystic
9)Huskier Captain America
10)Classic Captain Britain
11)Avengers era Beast(Ape Like)
12)X-MEN era Dazzler

I'l mention some new characters in my next post. Hasta luego, mis amigos!

Unknown said...

A) more figures

To be honest I was momentarily relieved when I heard the collection was ending (a moment of follishness I know), as it has been going for on 7 years now and space was becoming a bit of an issue. The wife was definately overjoyed :)

However once I started seriously reading this blog as well as the SHFF, and with the interest in comics that this collection has renewed in me, I started to really want the missing characters to comlete the various teams. I even resubscribed to the DC collection which I cancelled a year ago (a bit of a mission I must admit) as these both these collections offer figurines which are excellent value for money (When compared to Bowen etc which are way out of reach budget wise, if you can find them) and I dont want to regret not completing the collections one day. I think if there was a new collection with at least 75% new characters and popular characters in different poses/outfits there would be a big demand. Count me in! (just dont tell the wife! I will have to pretend that the CMFC never ended to keep the peace :))

This is my favourite list to re-do and introducing new charachters in a possibly new Marvel collection.

because are too important to not appear in a new collection:

1) Wolverine.
2) Spider Man.
3) Captain America.
4) Magneto.
5) Thor.
6) Iron Man.
7) Hulk.
8) Loki.
9) Daredevil.
10) Thanos.

'cause a new key to sculpt is one mode for adjust or complete old version:

11) The Thing classic.
12) Human Torch (more spectacular effect and pose)
13) Green Goblin that have been a bad story in effective realization :)
14) Jean Grey maybe are important too.
15) Nick Fury in ultimate or movie version.
16) Lizard more hungry!
17) Rogue classic before-movie version.
18) Angel in Archangel version.
19) Iceman too(same reasons for Human Torch).
20) Super Skrull(absolutely redo)
21) Cage new look
22) Emma Frost... oh yeah :)
23) Carnage more dinamic
24) Black Widow is too cool for this moment! Realize another time.
25) Adam Warlock maybe other costume version(more introspective)
26) Viper... I love her :)
27) Nomad long-haired version :)
28) Rachel Summers Phoenix's Excalibur version.

new charachters:
29) Jackal
30) Mary Jane
31) Hope Summers
32) Sharon Carter.
33) Us Agent.
34) Sin and Crossbones.
35) The three asgardian warriors!!!
36) Heimdall
37) Surtur!
38) Thunderstrike.
39) Ulik.
40) Mangog!
41) Asgardian Destructor.
42) Malekith (is new villain in next movie Thor).
43) Titanium Man.
44) Rescue- Pepper Potts.
45) Red Hulk.
46) Red She Hulk.
47) Doom 2099.
48) Diablo.

Hey Jacadoo, thanks!!! Just found your message on my blog. Does your addie end with .com or co.uk ?
I think the suffix got filtered out when you posted. I'll try both. Cheers!

"Brokeback Mountain", Toon?

Well, since you raised the subject, I've always thought you 'sounded' rather sexy.

Robert great news to hear you will be in Birmingham, but have to say I am defiantly not wearing cowboy boots!!!!

Well not since the 80s anyway.

$98,000 worth of pledges - so far - for a Judge Dredd Miniatures Game. Surely that proves that a 2000AD figure collection is a goer?

LAWay said...

Aye Robert you are right about that.

I do question whether its legal and whether it'll be allowed. If they don't have the 2000AD license they can't do it, and in reality, cannot advertise the project surely.

But with $100,000 I am sure that will allow for them to purchase it with so many backers.

But I think this more goes to show the appeal of this scale of figurines. Another kickstarter project featuring warhammer type figurines got $2million.

If EM really want attention and to roll in the cash, they want to get in on this scale of figurine. Marvel roleplay games and books already exist. EM just produces figurines to actually use for these games, and maybe offers a new scenario per magazine, and they'll be effing rich.

Hi all, been a while...

Robert, I'm pretty sure I'll be going to the London Comic Con again. Even my better half is showing interest! It would be great if we all could meet up for the proverbial pint- especially as we've got more of an idea of the layout this time round.

As for the survey from Thor8...like most of us here, I would definitely favour a continuation in the same style as we already have, and I'm realistic about having to have a certain amount of redos of the popular characters. This way we could have:
'Bucky' Cap
Red Hulk
Commander Rogers
Original Havok (or the new version that's similar)
Original Drax
Archangel

...And as for new additions, I'd love to have:
Baron Strucker
Arnim Zola
Starlord
Starhawk
Killraven
Howard the Duck
Mantis
Whirlwind
Original White Tiger...and many more.

I know it's controversial, but if EM embraced the new Marvel Now concept, it might bring in a whole new fan-base and kick-start the collection.

Anyway, good to be back..
Cheers,

BD

When does the Giant man special come out ?

CGJ said...

December

The Mad Thinker said...

That sucks , they definately could've done more specials !!

Robert said...

Good to hear from you, Bob. Hopefully a few of us will meet up in Feb. Still hopeful that Rich and Dan will make an appearance and we can raise a collective toast to them.

Word verification is a Deutsch-Scots mix: "ichhaver".

P.S. It's "definitely".

Sorry about the lack of activity from me lately guys. Been really busy with my artwork getting off to a good start in sales! My most recent was a full A4 pic of Thor with background, sold for £35. Currently doing something different now and drawing myself in cartoon style, running with none other than Sonic the Hedgehog! :D
Hey Robert, I'm planning on going to Comic Con again next year with a few friends after loving this year's experience! It would indeed be awesome if we all got to meet each other there! We should talk details closer to the event and arrange a meeting!
I believe Thor8 mentioned somewhere above some questions that everyone have been answering...All I can say is I would keep buying figurines if it meant keeping the collection alive! Whirlwind, Baron Mordo, Jackal, Lockjaw, Rocket Raccoon I could go on and on but certainly there are plenty of characters still missing and even one more final extension could tie up the loose ends and finish teams and so on.

And then there were three.

The Mad Thinker said...

Put me down for that too Robert , I'm game !!

I've only been once , and took my nephew.
Would love to go again , is it still at Earls Court in London , or am I thinking of a different event ?

Robert said...

No, it's Earl's Court, MT. see you there.

Robert said...

On the horns of a dilemma here. Two choices.

1. Send MT to the wrong venue so I don't have to listen to his buffonery.

2. Or meet him and update my profile image with a photograph of me throttling the life out of him.

Hmm. Bit of a poser, innit?

Play nice Robert, play nice...:)

I wish my work considered an early start to the week on either a Thursday or Friday. ^_^

Received a package yesterday from my supplier. Inside I found Terrax The Tamer,The Owl,Jolly JJJ,and my favorite.... The Swordsman. He's perfect! No broken or bent sword, the paint job is magnificient, and the details are great. Due to his unique colors he really stands out in my Avengers' display. I wanted to place him under my pillow last night as I went to bed,but I was afraid his sword arm would break. Now more than ever I wish I'd had won one of EM's comps so that I could have picked The Recorder for Robert,or Ulysus Bloodstone for Ted or one of Pirate or Jacadoo's favorite so they could be as pleased as I am now. And to top it all off Giant-Man will soon be around also. Life is good.

The Mad Thinker said...

Yeah , love you too !!

Thor8 said...

Has anyone seen the new Skurge statue by Bowen. It looks great, but I find EM's to be much better.

If you guys do get to get together at the comic con in February,I hope Robert and MT get to bury the old hatchet (but not in each others head).
