All-father!

Hi guys,

Sorry for the wait for an update but hopefully this will be worth it.

First, I have the sculpt images of Odin. The good news is that he looks amazing, the bad news is that you'll have to wait a little while for him to come out. Due to a few problems, the all-father won't be making an appearance until August-September time.

That aside, I thought I'd explain our costume choice. As I may have mentioned in the past, Odin is a complete and utter nightmare for costume choice. If you read through his comic appearances you'll see that literally every issue he changes costume – and I'm not talking about small changes, quite often he'll go from wearing a horned helmet with a viking look to futuristic armour with a giant crown. I guess when you're the lord of Asgard you get a little bored with wearing the same clothes.

Obviously there were some story arcs where he kept the same costume (Simonson's run on Thor) but in the end we chose a costume that was reminiscent of Kirby's style, had aspects of Simonson and had appeared in a number of '90s comics. We were also careful to make sure Odin has his eyepatch and one (yes, I know he had more) of the crows.

Personally, I think this is one of our best specials, the sculptor did a fantastic job.

Moving swiftly on, the next topic is the subsets.

Thank you all so much for the great ideas and support for various types of subsets. All I can say at the moment is that we have no plans to do Marvel subsets but I will pass on all your comments to our marketing department and my boss. Hopefully, if the Blackest Night series does well and we feel confident we're not over saturating the market, we'll try a subset before the series ends (whenever that will be).

I just wanted to add one quick note on the subsets: The main reason we tried a Blackest night collection was to try and tie-in with the hype of the Green Lantern movie and the mega-event that is Blackest Night/Brightest Day. Perhaps an Avengers subset would be good for the movie next year but then we have done most of the Avengers already. I guess only time will tell.

Last thing I'd like to show you is the Shanna She Devil paint.

Have a great weekend.

damn its hard...the names are on the tip of your tongue and when the time runs out you hit yourself for not getting them.

I mean...somehow i didnt get Thor and Magneto in that rush. lol Your mind really does scatter under pressure. I feel ashamed. lol

I would love to get rid of some megas or specials for classic comic moments captured in a sculpt. However, with all the fuss of releasing 2 characters in a 2 pack, and the issue of weight and all that, I cant see EM being bothered to even try, not when most of the collectors like those on the forum seem to be happy to wait another decade until they all have their favourite fantasy character.

Shocking about the batmobile collection if its true. Admittedly, it sounds cool, but another way how marvel collectors are being shafted. Starting to really piss me off. EM need to start doing something before we jump ship because this collection isnt going anywhere exciting, and we certainly are not being rewarded in collecting. Our money is being poured into the DC collection.

Alexandre I have been yacking on about Independent characters for ages.

It's nice to see that a kindred spirit has finally evolved from the blog slime pool.

To reiterate for the umpteenth time: -

Independent comics collection: -

Hellboy and BRPD.
Witchblade
Cyblade
The artifacts characters
Shi - from Crusade Comics

I also wish to echo MT.
I WANT ......
Judge Dredd, Dark Judges, Cursed Earth loonies such as the Angel gang; and not to leave out the girlies such as Anderson and Hershey.

Regarding market saturation.
I have only one thing to say
"MARKET SATURATION - MY ASS".
(no thats not an invitation for some Man o Man action PA ... its an exclamation - sorry to disappoint you.)

Yeah some people pick and choose but when you look at some of the crap that people collect, it proves that there is a market for everything.

Mossmen - you are letting us "Friends of ol' Marvel" down.

If DC can have cool sculpts, subsets, girlies that look like girlies and now vehicles - then why can't we.

I expect an answer by the time I come back from Africa in a few weeks time ... disappoint me at your peril... grrrrr ... at your peril ....

Got to admit that 1989 Batmobile looks absolutely fantastic.
Could a Marvel vehicles collection work?? I would certainly be up for Caps ( Evil Kineval type ) motorcycle. The Spidey mobile,Fantasti car, Quinjet....er..wolvie on a pedalo? Emma Frost soaping up the x-plane?? Or as a speshal Hulk on his segway. That's right Rich , you know it makes sense.

no no no to vehicles , yes yes yes to more figurines. Oh and robert , i'm not disputing your knowledge and wisdom but i know what i saw. Kang with a capey wapey type thingy wingy.

www.drunkenmonkeycollectables.com there's a bust of kang wearing a cape shown in a picture. That's 1 example.

I have no idea what the hell any of that means, but it's great to see the greatest double act ever to grace this blog back in harness:)
Mon, big Robert, take the quiz, as Mrs Doyle would say Gwan, gwan, gwan, gwan

Maybe later, Ted. Been a hectic week and considering I have somehow managed to forget all the divergent reality Kangs, I doubt I will know my Stan Lee from my Bruce Lee. Now, where's my cup of tea, then?

Why does DC get all the extras and Marvel fans get nothing but no's maybe's or we'll pass it on's? If you ask me it has to do with the people at Marvel itself and not the EM staff. For some reason Marvel will not give the okay to go on with the sub-sets,multi-packs,or any other extras. If I'm wrong I'd like Rich,Dan or any of the other staffers to explain this, please.

Thor8 said...

Hey,I just notice tha my Warriors Three and I all posted one after the other. "ASGARDIANS ASSEMBLE!"

Robert said...

Am I still Hogun?

Thor8 said...

Well Pirate is Fandral since Fandral's the buccaneer type,so you can be Hogun,if jacadoo's okay with being Volstagg.

Robert said...

Can't see him being happy with it, can you? Maybe we should all 'fess up our weights and the heaviest has to be the volumious one? Your call, Thor8!

LAWay said...

I wouldnt think Marvel is to blame. EM make the decisions within the collection and assume they just need approval to make sure they do the characters right. All the excuses that have been palmed off at us havent been because of Marvel, but EM saying 'meh, we'll think about it maybe.'

Must be one hell of a complicated operation to get anything going...what with all the problems the DC collection have been having with their fabulously consistent figurines, their subset and a new spin off collection.

Next character announcement to be Howard the Duck, to really send home the 'screw you - we dont care about the collection' to us fans.

Sort it out guys and stop taking us for granted. They better have something good up their sleeves for Marvel that they have been keeping tight lipped.

Thor8 said...

Speaking of tight lipped, what ever happened to that top secret project Rich once mentioned low those many moons ago?

As for whom is responsible for decision making for Marvel projects,I once asked Rick a similar question as to how much input Marvel has as far as what character is approved, what costume choice etc., and it seems to me that Rich pointed out that they do indeed have quite some input on these things. So Rich,I ask once more is it Marvel holding you back from making sub sets,multi-packs and other special projects?

Robert; How would I know what each of you really weigh?

Anonymous said...

well you just took the words out of my mouth oh mighty one with the big hammer. I was thinking that too. What top secret project was rich talking about ? 2000ad collection ? Hope we get some answers in a mega update friday. I hope this collection isn't doomed , we are so lacking in villains. More extensions or sub sets are needed. Hear us rich , please.

My God! That was awesome! I watched it six times and destroyed my morning bacon! I was worried about this film, I'll be honest, but it looks great. Seeing Cap with Mama's Fury's favourite son and the Howlers, well, even my morning run on the bike will seem like a damp squib. (Which raises the possibility of mounting my shield on the front, actually...) I also now understand why the budget's so big: the CGI to make the scrawny Steve look like the muscular Steve is totally convincing, just an amazing job by the special effects crew. This looks like it'll be a big hit, guys.

As another Avenger said to Falcon, "Doesn't it bother you that everyone keeps asking about Cap? They seem to just think of you as his sidekick."
"Nah, it's okay. Let's face it, compared to Captain America, we're ALL sidekicks."

P.S. Oops, nearly forgot my manners. Thank you, Adam.

P.P.S. And, Thor8, I'm 6 foot 1 inch and 13 stone 3. Don't ask the metric equivalents, it's too early in the morning to work it out. I'm now unconcerned if I end up as Volstagg. In too good a mood...

Those Batmobiles are incredible all come in a self contained little diorama with a backdrop. Cap on his bike with shield on the handle bars ploughing through Red Skulls Hydra goons would be awesome. Are Marvel collectors just poorer?, Has there been some market research done that shows DC collectors have more disposable income?
EM are fare flinging series after series at those rich little DC blighters

yeh, the new cap trailer is simply awesome. Thor and Cap this year, what a treat!

I keep thinking of Rich's top secret project every update, but I just gave up on asking what it could be. I mean, how long has it been since he teased us with that statement? 6 months? A year?

Whenever it was, I just got the feeling the project was scrapped and thus why they havent mentioned it.

Ah, Adam, I can't describe the springy, bouncy step I've had all day! Remember, you're talking to a man with a large "A" on the forehead of his motorcycle helmet, a guy who insisted that when he went to the States with his wife that they went to Washington DC so he could walk up the steps of the Lincoln Memorial like Cap has done, and who wants to buy one of the special shields with long straps so he can wear it on his back when out for runs on his bike. Normalacy? HA! That's for unimaginative saps! Give me perfect fighting machines, Norse gods and gamma irradiated monsters any day!

P.S. Wife complained about stink of burnt bacon in kitchen this morning and I just skipped around her in a super-soldiery way and bounded out the front door with impressive grace. All I needed was some Hydra goons to batter and my day would have been complete! Bullets would be bi-doinging off my shield and I'd say, "I appreciate the attention, boys, but you're giving me an earache!" Always liked that one. Good ol' Stan. What a guy!! What a man! Bi-doing!! B-DOING!!!!

HEY! everybody have you seen my balls they're big and salty and brown if you ever need a quick pick me up just stick my balls in your mouth"

I'm guessing all you Asgardian- types out there have got this already...but have you read the 70s issue of Marvel Spotlight featuring the first solo adventure of The Warriors Three?
Drawn by the Late, Great Big John B, it's one of the best single issue comics from that amazing decade, and one of my all-time fav comic books ever- must have read it a hundred times back in the day...
Surely it's only a matter of time before these 3 are show-cased in lead (and/or resin!).

(I'll let you all get back to your choc-dipping fantasies now...:) )

WOAH! I turn my back for a minute and you've all turned into hippies! (not a bad thing). But moving abck and further thought on the idea of scenes. Something like that would probably be out of character with this collection really. So maybe an idea that could surface when this collection ends?
As for the super secret project....did that predate the DC collection? Certainly it could have been the Blackest Night set. I hope it would be a Dr Who one, but Mrs Barnabas would probably emasculate me if my hopes came true..............

Barnabas said...

Now there's a question. Is there a minimum number of issues for a partwork like these to be worth it.
Who and Discworld certainly have enough characters. Transformers I know little about and Thundercats - is there enough characters to make a profitable collection? Saying that though the Buffy collection only went to 5, but they were jolly expensive.

LAWay said...

If the super secret project was anything else non related to the CMFC, then i think its quite poor taste hinting about on this blog. There hasnt really been mention of anything DC wise unless we have specifically asked about it, so they have tried to keep things marvel focused here...so logically the big secret SHOULD have had something to do with Marvel.

Then again DC have had 2 spin off collections when things looked to be too complicated to even produce 2 packs for Marvel, so what do we know anyway.

Deadpool said...

I've had rather more time to myself than I expected so I will join in again.

Future collections in order of preference, even though I want them all: -

0. Cthulhu - HP Lovecraft
1. 2000AD - Judge Dredd, Dark Judges etc...
2. Asgardian Subset of CMFC
3. Independent Comics - BPRD- Hellboy, Artifacts, Shi etc
4. Mech Warrior / Battletech Mechs
5. Elric and the Eternal Champion Michael Moorcock collection
6. Classic Dr Who
7. Transformers - I like Bumblebee
8. Thundercats
9. Amalgam Subset
10.Modding collection - figure blanks with moddeling tools and tips

Now I give way to all those on the forum and blog who want to criticise and whinge and whine about licenses ... you know who you are ....

See you in a few weeks time and if I don't happy Easter.

1. Dreadstar. Last owned by First Comics. No idea what the situation is with them now. Probably defunct.
2. 2000AD.

Future Figurine Collections Wish List :

2,000 AD
World Of Warcraft
Dark Horse
Capcom
Namco
Doctor Who
James Bond
Star Trek
The X Files
Star Wars
Thundercats
G.I Joe + Cobra
Sci Fi / Horror
Aliens Vs Predators
WWF Legends Of Wrestling
Beano + Dandy
Hannah Barbara
The Simpsons
Walt Disney
Warner Bros Looney Tunes

We're gonna need a bigger boat lol

LAWay said...

While we are naming collections that we would like to see (which I am sure doesnt look good to the owners of this blog lol) I would still like to keep things Marvel.

1-Ultimate Marvel characters
2-Alternate costumes of main Marvel Characters
3-Marvel Vs Capcom
4-Dragonball Z
5-Street Fighter
6-Transformers
7-Final Fantasy
8-Watchmen
9-WWF Classics
10-Naruto

Would you buy a Marvel vehicle subset? I cant think of any decent Marvel vehicles unlike batman's iconic batmobile (which has a huge fanbase alone). If anything was going to be a subset of Marvel, it would have to include the big names, and probably alternate costumes, ultimates or movie versions would be the best bet.

Robert said...

Marvel vehicles: FF Fantasticar and Pogo Plane (various incarnations), X-Men Blackbird, Ghost Rider's motorcycle, the Avengers Quinjet, the Spider-Mobile, even Aragorn (she counts, sorta).
