Last few days...

Hello,

So the poll on the superherofigurineforum.com is nearly over, it'll run until 31st August so if you haven't voted yet there is still time.

Here are this week's sneak peeks: Karnak and Forge. Hope you like them.

I'll have a longer update and the winners of the polls next week.

Loving the forge sculpt, as an x Fan that is only to be obvious Karnak looks good as well.
Cant wait to see who else will be joining this excellent collection next week.
Warlock hopefully

Two more excellent sculpts to look forward to, especially liking the Forge figurine.
Next week can't come quick enough! Really can't wait to see which characters made the collection.

Forge looks excellent...much better than expected.
Karnak also has an interesting pose. Looking forward to both now.

Nice!!

Not a huge Inhuman fan, but he'll complete the main group. Just need Lockjaw now, hopefully packed with Luna. Since I doubt we'll get her any other way.

Forge is looking really good though. I guess the gun is gonna be resin, to cut down on costs. Don't mind that at all. Just can't wait to add him to the X-Shelf.

buffduffdan said...

I'm loving Forge, he is exactly what I was hoping for! Karnak is pretty nice too, he was never going to be the most exciting Inhuman but he looks good none the less :)

forge is looking really good. will be an excellent addition to the x-shelf.

can't wait to find out the result of the polls. pretty certain my new most wanted character won't win but i'm hoping for a good showing to hopefully make the next extension (or me winning the comp would be even better)

my predictions for the poll

moonstone
vance astro
domino

Great work with Forge, looks amazing. Shame it's going to be over a year before I can add him to my shelf.

Karnak looks good too. Nice cynamic pose for a boring looking character.

Unknown said...

Love Karnak and can't wait to see a painted version. Lockjaw ftw.

Robert said...

Looking forward to adding Karnak to the Inhumans family, although he looks oddly uninteresting without colour. Funny how some characters look so different in their unpainted form. Anyway, as has been said elsewhere, all we need now is Lockjaw. And perhaps Maximus.

John said...

Definitely need Maximus now. :) Karnak looks great. If at all possible, Maximus and Lockjaw would look so amazing standing next to the others.

Mr J said...

Both look very good I particuarly like the Forge sculpt.

How about a look at Destiny and Spiral soon?

Anonymous said...

When we will see Firestar...?

jimbob said...

Both look good.

Lockjaw special please!

When I was in FP this afternoon, I bought the Grim Reaper. Some characters look much better on the page than they do as a figurine, and now that I've looked at GP, he is definitely one of them. The Reaper is quite menacing in comics but as a figurine looks like he's wearing a kid's pirate T-shirt and his sister's leggings. Also, his facial expression doesn't work. What should be a grimace of hate actually looks like a ventriloquist's fake smile. Maybe he's trying to make it seem as if his scythe is talking? "Gurrender agengers, guy am the Gim Geaper!"

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Ok Rich i know you've been gagging for my nominees so here they are
1 Ulysses Bloodstone
2 Princess Python
3 Nico Minoru
4 American Eagle
5 Howard the Duck

LAWay said...

Great sculpts. I'll be honest and say I dont care for Karnak as a character, but these new sculpts are amazing.

Great detail in the musculature, so whichever artist did these, amazing work. They look more on par with the DC figurines being pumped out.

Forge looks great, which is a wonder why it has taken so long to do him.

But with awesome looking sculpts like this, its gonna bring me back to the discussion of resculpts, as these guys totally over shadow the older figurines of the A-listers.

Guilherme said...

I totally agree with the ones above, FORGE SCULPT IS AWESOME!!!! Can't you put this figurine on sale in a hurry? ;)

Guilherme said...

And so, alongside LAWay, when I see those great new sculpts, I can't stand to remember some poor ones like the tiny Cable with ordinary uniform and the skinny Captain Britain... and pray for resculpts.

Guilherme said...

Robert, I understand your comment but is the GR figurine much different from this high resolution image posted here 'bout one year ago?

jimbob said...

Hope Karnak is in scale tho!

He is only 5'7",should be one of the small figurines of the collection.

Haven't EM checked out Karnak scale with the other Inhumans?
Should be about Crystal height, she is 5'6"!

Just to help EM out on the scale issue i will put down the height of rest of the characters from the list that have not been made yet.

Siver Sable 5'5"
Songbird 5'5"
Spiral 5'10"
J.J.J 5'11"
Tigershark 6'1"
Sif 6'2"
Wrecker 6'3"
Radioactive Man 6'6"

Aurora & Northstar both are 5'11"

Robert said...

Guilherme, no, I guess the image isn't all that different. My first introduction to GR was Avengers #160 and when I think of him I see the cover of that comic in my head. (A fabulous cover. Perez, I assume.) Maybe the fact that the scythe isn't glowing with Kirby Krackle is affecting my reaction to it. Also, I think the cloak is black (with blue highlighting) on the cover, although I know it is normally purple. I'm also beginning to think that artists have done a better job than I imagined of making the character scarey and insane-looking and no little figurine can begin to replicate that.

Don't get me wrong, I like GR and he's standing alongside Kang, Ultron and the other Avengers villains. The scythe and mask 'ears' are cool, but otherwise I just don't think it is a particularly inventive or special design.

Anonymous said...

FORGE: excellent sculpt. I am not a huge fan of the character, and usually I'm not impressed by charcater designs who rely on weapons and gadgets, but in this case that's the essence of Forge and he's clearly going to be a cool figurine.

KARNAK: awesome sculpt. I am a huge fan of the Inhumans, and I'm glad we have EM honouring all Marvel characters equally with a top quality sculpt. This figurine has definitely captured the best of Karnak, and he will look superb once it's painted.

Just surfing on eBay when I came across a rather nifty Avengers Quinjet. It's part of the Super-Hero Squad toyline and looks like it's roughly to scale with the CMFC. Think I might display one next to the Assemblers. Anyone know where I can get one in the UK? The postage from the States is silly...

Ted...you continue to be your old Surreal-self I see!
I went to the web-site expecting to see a Quinjet for Robert, only to find a page of original art-work drawn by his favourite artist instead....
I assume this is another page you've bought?
(Rather good piece as well. I think I have that issue.)

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Yes indeedy Bob, that wee beauty is on it's way from the colonies as we speak.
Me love me voodoo man!

Robert said...

At first I interpreted "Robert's favourite artist" in a completely innocent way and thought you meant Sal Buscema. Then, I had a butcher's and realised it was sarcasm from you, Bob. I'm pleased that Ted is happy, though. We know that recently he's been up to his eyeballs in DIY hell.

P.S. Bob, Ted, did you have a look at the quinjet I mentioned? I would repaint it slightly but it looks rather nifty. It's not as cool as the helicarrier, admittedly, although the quinjet would be in scale with the figures. If I could get a backdrop with Avengers mansion, a quinjet and then the Avengers themselves, well, geek heaven.

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Robert,It came down to a very tough choice between the Gene Colan page and a Sal Buscema MTU page anda Bob Brown/Don Heck Avengers page.
I would have loved to have bought them all , in the end ol Gene's page just had that certain oomph!
A painted background to your Avengers display is the way to go auld pal.naw naff supersave toys .

Robert said...

Ah, Ted, are you trying to convince me that you are mental? Those three choices and you plumped for Colan?!!?

Anyway, I love Sal (maybe I've mentioend that in previous posts?) and Bob Brown is a strangely under-rated artist. His death in 1977 robbed comics of a truly gifted artist.

By the way, what was the MTU page? Are these pages for sale on eBay?

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Robert, the MTU page was on ebay it featured Spidey and Dr Strange. Some auld wizard wanted Strange to revive his true love but the good doctor had to explain she was deader than dodo shit.
You hate the "Dean" ,I like im, Hopefully we can still be friends, despite our irrevocable differences?

Robert said...

Ach, Ted, ya old softie, come over here and gimme a manly hug!

I know the MTU team-up well. Lovely art. Fun story. Strange and Spidey swapped powers at the end! Ah, the '70s, we'll not see their likes again.

Just brought the weans hame fae the tattoo. There's nothing like the skirl o the pipes tae lift the spirits.
I was surprised to hear Bob Brown had passed away in 1977 , He was an excellent artist. I grew up reading Bob Brown Daredevil/Black Widow, I'm surprised not to have seen any articles about him in any of the issues of Comic Book Artist that i have. Hopefully i can find something about him on this interweb thingy.
http://i757.photobucket.com/albums/xx215/yooooop/202b_35.jpg
That's the Sal page it's perfectly lovely just not very action packed, I have just discovered a dealer who has a huge selection of Sal Buscema/Gerry Taloc Hulk pages , That's my xmas list posted tae Santa already.
ach Robert my auld pal you,sal and Clint Eastwood are the only 3 men i would be proud tae hug in a manly manner :)

Seriously, can I just say how much I love this collection :)
Thanks EM and Rich, two awesome previews once again!

John said...

Not a lot of activity on the blog for there being an update... People must be sitting, biting teeth over the poll.

Robert said...

I agree it's not the most action-packed page, Ted, although it is rather nice pacing. The story has some lovely pages, including a fight between Spidey and Doc, so it's a pity you weren't being offered one of those as they would have looked excellent.

As for Bob Brown, I have a terrible, terrible confession to make. It's one I feel nothing but a deep and emotionally crippling shame about: I read about Bob Brown's passing in a DC comic! I know, I know, people get their cell door welded shut for less. In my defence, my mother bought it for me, not thinking - in her madness - that there is any difference between Mighty Marvel and Dire DC. Brown's death was mentioned in a letter's page or the DC equivalent of the Bullpen Bulletins Page. To the best of my knowledge, Marvel never even mentioned it, which is just inexcusable, really. Why his passing did not create more of an impact escaped me as a kid in 1977 and still does as an adult.

Ted, I also grew up on Brown's DD, and it was just incredible work. To anyone who doubts the quality of his work, get a hold of the classic DD-Torpedo two-parter and have a look. I'm sure Janson did the inking. It's as good an example of anatomical drawing as you'll see that whole decade. Really great stuff. What a shame he died so (relatively) young.

Robert said...

Oh, is that a new game you're suggesting, Ted? Which three men would you hug?

Sorry, Ted, but if limited to only three my list would be Stan, Sal and William Shatner. Actually, I would probably kneel before Stan, as any believer would before his god. So you get your hug after all!

pirate adam said...

i feel strangely left out, nobody ever wants to hug a Pirate :(

well i'll join in your manly 3 hug game...errrrm...Jacadoo if he ever comes back, Deadpool because he want me to, badly, and CBR Beast so i finally know he has forgiven me for calling the X-Men names.

and another two figs i wont be buying

Robert said...

PA, your disinterest in Forge is expected but no love for the Inhumans? Bit surprised by that.

P.S. Anyone have a space on their hug-list for a lovelorn pirate?

BobDiamond said...

pirate adam said...

not so much a case of no love for the Inhumans Robert, more a case of the character, rather boring in my opinion.

BRING ON LOCKJAW

PA

Robert said...

Fair enough, PA. Wasn't criticising, just surprised. I suppose Karnak is a bit of a one-trick pony. You have to admit, though, that Stan and Jack yet again proved their genius by having a kung fu character years before the kung fu craze hit the rest of the world. Always three steps ahead...

P.S. Have decided to donate my man-hugs to the trio of Bob, Ted and Thor8, wherever he is. I guess my original three get more than their fair share already.

SinisterVenom said...

Aww no love for the SV? Oh well, I'm gonna join in on the man hug game anyway lol.
My 3 choices: Robert, CBR Beast and Pirate Adam.
I wouldn't say no to a manly hug from a pirate any day lol.
SV

Robert said...

That's two hugs for CBR Beast, so he's in the lead! And our favourite pirate gets his wish and a big hug, too! It's enough to bring a tear to a synthezoid eye... oh, hang on, that's been done already.

Robert said...

Was on looking for an Avengers quinjet for sale in the UK, only to discover that the Superhero Squad collection also has the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier AND Nick Fury's hover car (you know, with the wheels that flip up).

I have been spending my money on the WRONG collection.

Unknown said...

Is there a chance if even a small one that we could have at the end of the collection, the figurines of Stan Lee, John Romita and others

In my eyes these are heroes also

SinisterVenom said...

I think if we stood any chance of getting any of real life characters, I would think Stan Lee is the only one that would be made, he is God of Marvel after all.
Personally I would love to have Stan Lee as the final figurine to close this collection when the time eventually comes, hopefully it won't be for a while yet.

Thank you, SV! VERY interesting. I couldn't believe that the Recorder got TWO votes. Why I am happy about this, I don't know, as he is not going to get made this side of 2050, but it was great to see him feature at all. He he.

Anyway, SV, your sterling work in providing this info for us non-forum folk deserves another hug and an extended lie in of one hour! Enjoy your late start tomorrow!

SinisterVenom said...

Whew...now that I've posted the results, I'll get back to the post I wanted to say now I have the space lol.
First, Robert I completely agree 100% with you about how much better the blog seems to be now, I must admit I have had a few chuckles myself and the whole manly hug topic cheered me up after getting back from a hard day at work so thanks for that guys!
And now my opinion on the 3 winning characters...absolutely thrilled! Especially that Avalanche is finally in! I'm happy for Domino and Arachne too. I must admit I expected Domino and Avalanche to make it, but the third character I thought would join them was Vance Astro.
Which brings me to announce the next topic if you're all interested? What 3 caracters did you think would fill the 3 slots?
Right now I'm done...for now lol. At this rate I'll be giving Deadpool a run for his money! Just kidding pal. ;)

Just looking over the lists again and I had to laugh. Three characters I would have voted for received exactly one vote, and the fourth had only two. And my fifth choice isn't even listed at all!

Gee, I knew I was out of touch but that's pretty damning!

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Heh he! Bloodstone, Princess Python and Ulik got 1 vote each. Hopefully this means they will fill up the top 3 spots come voting time in the 960 to 980 extension :)
Nice to see White Tiger and Brother Voodoo may be in contention for the next extension.

Came back on to look over the lists again - hey, I was out of the loop, so it's all new to me - and am surprised by how many characters, from top to bottom, I would like to see made. But one question is uppermost in my mind: who are the two collectors who voted for the Recorder? I want to congratulate them on their good taste and tell them that I have kept back two hugs just for them!

Bad taste or what?

Some good costumes on there eh Robert, don't know what to think about the chubby Phoenix and Black Cat looked a little chubby too. Absolutely loved the Spidey costume though, looked just like the movie version.
And how lucky are they to have met and got signatures from Stan Lee! Oh how I fill with envy...

Robert said...

I agree, SV. The Phoenix cosplayer looked a bit like the love-child of Jean Grey and the Blob.

As for meeting The Man, well, it can't get any better than that. One of my great regrets in life is not going to see him when he was in Glasgow in the mid-1990s. I was at uni, completely skint and didn't have the £30 to buy the book he was signing. I really should have just borrowed the money or turned to a life of crime or something... really, on my deathbed I will remember that act of stupidity, wince and I'll be cremated with that pained expression on my face...

Just took delivery of my Strange Tales page from the slightly exotic sounding city of Leonia NJ,
It's lovely but the seller must have photocopied the page to show on ebay as there are a couple of " shitty broon" stains on the page that didn't show up on the ebay image. But this can't dampen my joy, Plus i'm listening to William Shatner's common people , how this never made #1 around the world i will never know?
The Dr Pepper is chilling in the fridge i have seasoned my meat , all is in readiness for my authentic "Diablo" sandwich as made famous by sheriff Buford T Justice, All in all a geektastic kinda day :)
Poll winners? Arachne and Avalanche are known to me Domino? ..do her powers involve pizza delivery?

Did Northstar become a Double Pack Special with Aurora? If so, we do have 19 regular figurines and Moonstone enter in this extension too. More figurines, the more excited I am!

The last slot of the expansion is for a contest that Rich will announce at some point. The last time, it required finding specific art images from the magazines and sending in the issue and page number. The winner selected Siryn for the last expansion. Who knows who'll win this time.

But if I do, you guys are getting Beak. :D

SV, you are a gentleman and a scholar. If you want to borrow any comics you're welcome to come over any time.

As for the other Robert(o), I'm not sure if you are serious or not, but what you are describing is an addition not collecting.

I have to go. My wife was reading this over my shoulder and has just fainted. I don't share my comics with anyone and the shock of what I have just written has left her unconsciousness on the rug.

texastwister1 and art4899 are the two users who voted for The Recorder. Huh, that took quicker than I thought it would...
So another manly Robert hug to those two huh Rob ol chum? :)

Of course I meant "addiction". Sorry, my wife's sudden fall distracted me for a moment. She seems okay, though, and has gone for a glass of wine "to steady her nerves". Sounds like an excuse to me.

P.S. Oot, Kirlianeyes and Leigh are very quiet. You still out there, guys?

Robert said...

Never heard of them, SV. Can't remember them being on here, although my memory isn't great. (Unless it's another case of aliases, of course!) Whoever they are, I'd like to reward them with more than a manly hug. My house for my world class French toast, guys!

Thanks for checking, SV. The offer of free access to my rather enormous comic collection still stands.

Thank you for the comics offer Robert and I hope your wife is ok.
And speaking of people going quiet, there's also Deadpool, LAWay, Mad Thinker and even Spammy is going a little quiet now.

LAWay IS Leigh, SV. I prefer using his real name.

This place is always quieter when Deadpool is away. He wasn't always rational, but he came up with interesting ideas and his banter with Pirate Adam is good value for money.

As for the Thinker who is Mad, well, I can live without a nemesis (his word), thank you.

SinisterVenom said...

Ah of course, my apologies Robert, I normally know Leigh is LAWay, its just me not focusing properly.

No apology required, SV. Considering the parade of mental health issues you see on here (don't mention the raccoon to me!), a simple case of forgetfulness is hardly worth commenting on. In fact, do you know that there are even people who think that Stan Lee is NOT God?!?? I know, I know, it's shocking and sad but there you have it.

So far this extension we have...

3 x Avenger heroes
1 x Avenger villain
4 x XMen heroes
1 x XMen villain
3 x F4 villains
1 x F4 ally
2 x SpiderMan villain
1 x MK villain
1 x MK hero
1 x Thor ally
1 x Cosmic

25% X-Men characters and with one still to announce could be even more, thats too many and i dont care what anybody says :(

and 1 less Avenger wouldn't have been the end of the world

3 X-people would have been plenty, i am in a bad mood now and withdrawing all man hugs

Again, the X-Men and Avengers spheres still have the largest groups of prominant characters who haven't made yet. So 5 of each group per expansion makes perfect sense. Especially when you consider all of the secondary teams in each group.

For the X-Men you have X-Factor, X-Force, Excalibur, New Mutants, New X-Men, Exiles. Not to mention Wolverine and all his related baddies.

For Avengers, you have the various Avengers teams. Not to mention Cap, Iron Man, and Thor's rogues. As well as books like Thunderbolts.

I find myself agreeing with both PA and CBR Beast. One thing I did notice is that if you count the first twenty names in the poll, nine are mutants. I'm no mathematician but that's nearly 50 per cent. I didn't say anything before as I didn't want to be a spoilsport or seem as if I disagreed with the democractic way that the characters were chosen. That said, though, you'd have to agree that's almost one in two being from one 'family' is a lot. Under that bias, it would be understandable to rename the collection "The X-Men and Other Marvel Characters Collection".

P.S. I am still available for hugs, PA.

And? So what if 9 of the 20 names are mutants? Doesn't mean we're ever going to see an expansion where half of it is mutant-related characters. The X-Books are a popular subsection for Marvel. Why do you think they publish so many of them. If people are going to support the line, why should they be punished for liking a group of characters that some don't. I am not a big Spider-Man or FF fan. I don't tend to complain about those characters showing up on the expansion. Sure, they don't get as many representations. But Spidey only has a couple books, and the FF only has one.

probably 50% of marvel characters are actually mutants in the xmen anyway.

Most of which probably get constant exposure due to so many x-comic titles.

Really, they are just as justified as any.

my ears were burning.

When you have big ears like mine it sends off the fire alarm.

I browse here now and then folks. Letting you have your quiet time. Seemed so peaceful without me. ;)

Thanks for posting those results SV.

So the top 3 are definitely getting made? Cool, seems like 3 good choices there, although I really didnt think Domino would rank so highly, but I am very pleased with Avalanche and Arachne.

Personally would have preferred others. Cant remember who I voted for now, how many choices did we have?

Cant believe howard the duck got so many votes!

And poor one-of-three. Stepford cuckoos aint happening any time soon. Sorry mate.

My word verification is 'khaken', the toilet humour sea monster.

Now would be an apt time to show us Spiral considering she won last times forum votes.....
