Complete the Inhuman line-up...

Just a quick update this week to let you know that the next character in the extension is Karnak.

This probably shouldn't come as a surprise as he's pretty much the last Inhuman we need to complete the Royal Family (excluding Lockjaw).

Also just wanted to clarify the Northstar situation. If we don't get a double pack of the Alpha Flight twins, then Northstar will definitely be in this extension. So I guess that's two confirmed this week. Well at the moment...

More news next week.

Aww. I was hoping for more of a wild card choice this week. So far we've had 3 sure things announced for the next extension. Hopefully next week we'll get something really left field next week. But nice to see Karnak confirmed. I still hope the Northstar/Aurora 2-Pack happens. I really want them together in the collection.

Gremlin said...

Excellent news Rich. Really happy that Karnak is in to complete the Inhumans at long last. As for Northstar you have made a great call. If worse comes to the worse than we can have Aurora next extension.

Great news and thanks for listening to us.

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Nice to have Karnak confirmed , but as stated elsewhere could we maybe have a less obvious reveal next week?
HTD ? Bloodstone??? Dracula!!!!

jarvis69 said...

Thx Richard . The Royal family just need his pet now ;)
" If we don't get a double pack..." ...I hate those words ! And it's very bad to separate twins ...

Anonymous said...

hooray , and i guessed right , one of my two guesses , did anyone else guess he'd be in the extension ?

don't forget maximus the mad and the seeker , perhaps they could be a double pack ?

yeah lockjaw special needed now !!

i'd be a very happy bunny if we get the wizard , blastaar , trapster
+ lyra to complete the frightful four past + present members now.
wizard and trapster are the main 2 needed but the others would be nice i already have medusa displayed with the inhumans so i think i'll replace her with titania + display her alongside the already confirmed hydro man + klaw plus the others if we get them.

p.s : rich , next update can we get some more sneak peeks please ?

Anonymous said...

p.p.s : rich , i agree with the others on here , can we get a less obvious choice of character revealed next week too , like you did with batroc the leaper - a curve ball character - someone we won't expect , one that will be a nice surprise , someone we can go wow , never thought he or she would make the collection but mmm wow we are impressed !!

OUTSTANDING news! More Alpha Flight! I hope the powers-that-be see the light and approve the twin pack with Aurora. It'll be twice as nice!

Glad to see Karnak is a sure thing as well.

Another excellent addition to the collection with Karnak, need to have Lockjaw in there somewhere now to really make the royal family finished. I agree with the other updates, would love to see a "out in left field" character. Maybe Tombstone, Zaran or Wendigo.

Keep up the great work and thanks for an awsome collection.

The Hood said...

Excellent news about Karnak being in the collection, all we need now is a Lockjaw special. I agree with the idea of revealing a less obvious character next week, hopefully it will be Howard The Duck.

SinisterVenom said...

Great, Karnak will look awesome with the rest of the Inhumans. Just gotta wait for Lockjaw now.
Good to hear Northstar (sort of) confirmed too, but judging by the amount of requests for a Northstar and Aurora Twin double pack, I think it makes sense to make at least this double pack, see how it goes.
And for next week, how about some more sneak peaks? Maybe even some news on Omega Red and Cloak and Dagger?

BobDiamond said...

Hi Hel!!
Good to have you on board, especially as you are backing the campaign for The original Human Torch and Toro double-pack! (that's another one DP...)
Got to tell you though...I really am not the famous 'Robert' who used to post frequently until a short time ago,and I really wish HE would post again to confirm this from his end!!
Anyway, excellent news on the completion of the 2 legged Inhumans, but we really must get Lockjaw now-
He would be a really cool and fun addition, and would obviously keep Zebu(Zabu?)happy.

mighty_marvel said...

knew karnak would be in this extension. thought we might have had a female confirmed this week though.

the twins make so much sense as a double pack. and it should be tested to see if a double of 2 regular figs for £11/£12 ish would sell well. as this is what most people thought double packs would be but as yet it hasn't been tested. with the amount of characters people want (i've got a must have list of at least 60) it would be a shame to see the doubles stop

Great news that both Karnak and Northstar are confirmed. Sure to please the Inhuman & Flight fans plus brings us closer to completing 2 brilliant teams! Really hope we get a Lockjaw special now ;)

Excellent!

Inhumans completed!

Lockjaw maybe one day,he is 4th in the special poll.

Still reckon Aurora & Northstar will be a big sale.

KEEP THE OBVIOUS ONES COMING RICH!

Tiger Shark
Forge
Domino

KEEP ON COMPLETEING TEAMS!

Keep the collection strong;)

spidey_1979 said...

northstar and aurora simply HAVE to be done as a pack. make it happen please

A_Jay said...

agree with whats been said. northstar and aurora clearly should be sold as a pack. please don't take up 2 regular slots when a double pack is a logical option. we all want more figures, not less

Xie Shi Hua said...

Karnak is great! If you want wild card, think even more obscure!

Dominic Fortune
Killraven
White Tiger

sergiogf said...

OK with Karnak but we still need Forge, Magik, Moonstar, Longshot or Sauron...

And Northstar & Aurora in a double pack, please¡

Have I heard Sasquatch?

Thor8 said...

Seems as if Aurora and Northstar are a sure hit(at least on this blog and on the forum they are),so I believe EM should give the double packs another go and see if there successful.

As for a curve ball choice I sure would do back flips if you gave us The Swordsman or White Tger(original in both cases)or maybe Princess Pythome.

More obvious choices,I'd like to see Stingray,Photon,Mockingbird Tiger Shark,Tarantula or Blastarr.

Sneak peek of Wasp,Radioactive Man or Drax would be fine.

Kal Brindle said...

Richard! Thank you thank you thank you! Best news ever! Northstar confirmed for this extension! Bravo. As you can tell I am over the moon. Hopefully in a few months time you'll give us even better news when you tell us you've pulled him to go ahead with the Two Pack, but until then I am one seriously happy cowboy.

Northstar was my number one want when I found out about the CMFC and you have literally made my day! Classic AF black and white star-burst costume please.

Great news on Karnak - no big surprise but it's still an awesome feeling to know we're getting the Inhumans completed. Thank you.

With Jocasta being released this week in the UK (a bit of wait here in Canada still) - this has been an amazing week for me. No other collection has ever gone so far, so well. Fingers crossed this one has a whole lot more steam.

Now I'm of to go figure who to campaign for next! Fantastic!

Evening, gents.

Kind of weird to be back on here again. After my horribly, horribly misjudged attempt at exaggerated humour backfired so spectacularly, I apologised to Ted and then switched off the computer for a while. I didn’t know at the time that “a while” would be over a month and, to be honest, it now seems a rather strange over-reaction. (The only good thing that came out of the whole mess was that I finally tidied the garage.) Ted was always someone whose posts I enjoyed a lot and I was really annoyed at the bad feeling I created. Unfortunately, I can’t go back and undo my stupidity. In future I will either litter posts with emoticons or, better yet, just leave the comedy to the professionals.

I was pleased to hear about the extension being confirmed and that the Beetle and Karnak will be included. I have read about half of the posts of the last week or so, too. It was good to ‘see’ Thor8, Ted, SinisterVenom, Deadpool, CBRBeast, Mad Thinker, Pirate Adam and everyone again.

Rather oddly, I started reading the posts just prior to the point where it was being speculated that I was Bob Diamond. I have to admit that I didn’t even remember who that character was until BD explained. In 1974, when Bob said that the Kung Fu magazine came out, I was still a year away from becoming a True Believer – at that time I was obsessed with a certain lord of the jungle and was freaking the neighbours out because I kept saying “Ungawa! Ungawa!” to their border collie. (True story.) There is, of course, one ironclad proof that I can’t be Bob: nothing short of having a gun held to my reproductive organs would make me buy DC. Or even say that I bought DC. Certainly an attempt to maintain a false identity is not nearly a good enough reason. Anyway, good to have you on board, Bob.

Oh, one last thing. I want to apologise to you, Thor8. I hadn’t considered that my absence might have worried people and saw your post from a few days ago hoping that I was alright. Honestly, I’m fine. Not that we needed further proof, Thor8, but you’re a class act.

Deadpool said...

As Robert said, even when I held a gun to his family jewels he would not consider even looking at a single DC figurine.

However he did agree to come back and blog.

The Deadpool / Bob D search and rescue worked.

We did slap him around a bit at the request of Ted, but he seemed to enjoy it too much so we stopped.
I for one was rather creeped out.

But Roberto you have earned the Deadpool official warm welcome back.

Never ever put us through that kind of worry again.

Now then were was I?

oh yeah the Marvel Figurines...

Karnak will be cool but Lockjaw will be cooler.

What doe you guys think about resins... I did mention it several times before?

Wow Hel has graced us with her presence... now that is sweeeet.

We need more girlies ... to thin out the ranks of Anoraks.

Welcome to you and please stay... you are another welcome Norse God ally.

Goodnight and have a nice weekend

BobDiamond said...

Just wanted to say Hi to Robert!
It's excellent to have you back, and to be able to confirm, at last, that I'm me and that you are you!( if you see what I mean...)
Anyway, Xie Shi Hua mentioned Killraven back there, and it made me realize what a great, dynamic sculpt he would be!
He would have a facinating back story too, as writers are constantly linking his reality more and more with the 616 one ('Avengers Forever' mini, 'Wisdom'mini etc. Guardians of the Galaxy) and the original 70's comic was a true landmark in the medium.
Here's hoping also for Orig. White Tiger, orig. Swordsman(and Mantis) and Howard the Duck!!

Another 2 great choices! Thanks Rich ;)

Hopefully Northstar has not taken Forge's spot this extension but next week can we get a female character announced..... SUCH AS Magik or Domino!

jimbob said...

WARPATH would be a cool choice.

Gremlin said...

Can't believe people are maoning that Rich hasn't named a curveball yet ;). You have to admit that when he does it will be intensely critised for being the "wrong" curveball. I don't blame him for sticking to the obvious choices at this point, and personally I would prefer to get them confirmed so I can rest easy.
The obvious choices at this point are Tigershark, Wizard, Forge and Photon. They are all the bigger/popular names in their respective categories and I would be amazed if they didn't make it. Once these guys are confirmed then the extension can really open up and give us some marmite characters ;)

jimbob said...

I was just about too mention this Grem.

Rich must have mixed signals off us at the moment.

People that are not happy that Karnak has been confirmed too early.??????????

Very strange?

I think Rich should get the overdue characters in first, and the curveball characters will go into the polls and fight it out for the place in the collection!

Beetle, Hydro-man, Karnak and Northstar were all fan favourites. So, I'm really over happy they finally got in. I too, think Tigershark, Wizard, Photon and Forge will probably get in.
My personnal wants would be Gamora, Wolfsbane, Meggan, Longhot, M, Phyla-Vell, Arachne Vermin or Magik

And yeah for the inhumans! We need Lockjaw as a special and we are all set :) Maybe Maximus in another extansion

At next update we want news for Firestar (costume...)

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

I have no problem with Rich revealing "obvious" characters each Friday , Although perhaps "most likely" would be a more suitable term.
I am glad to see Beetle, Karnak and Hydroman confirmed. And i fully expect and would welcome the confirmation of Tigershark and Photon,
but if you say maybe 15 or 16 of this extension could be pretty much assumed to be characters who are frequently mentioned or who have done well in previous polls. then it's the 4 or 5 unkowns that i want to see revealed ( 1 per month would be good )
It is usually the announcement of a curveball choice that illicts the most fun debates on the forums .
in fact sometimes the fact that someones fav character has been labelled " curveball" makes for fun debate.
Some people thought Balder to be leftfield when many of us who know him to be a Marvel mainstay would disagree,
Nothing against popular choices, but the odd "odd" announcement is always fun :)

Robert said...

I had some misgivings about posting again but I'm glad to see that Ted is also keen to smoke the peace pipe. I really don't enjoy arguments and I come on here mainly because it's a haven from the normal hassles and arguments I get in work, etc. If I had come back to squabbling and insults I would have signed off for good.

Anyway, now that that seems to be put to bed, I was thinking about Bob's idea of Killraven. As far as I can recall, although I may be mistaken, all the characters included so far are from the main Marvel Universe (Earth 616). I was under the impression Killraven belongs to an alternate future, even if it is being "linked" in Bob's words to Earth 616. If Rich is selecting from a list of Earth 616 characters, would that not exclude Killraven? (I know he appeared in an old MTU with Spidey, although I don't know if that counts.) Can anyone shed any light on this? This may be important not just in terms of Killraven but others like Howard the Duck. Has Rich made any statements about including non-mainstream MU characters?

Robert said...

Oh, Ted, on the subject of silvery or metallic characters not being shiney enough, I painted my Silver Surfer with a clear gloss and that helped give him a sheen that he didn't originally have. I'll no doubt do the same to Jocasta.

BobDiamond said...

I don't think that not being exclusive to the 616 Universe should stop the inclusion of Killraven. In fact (I maybe wrong here)isn't the Blink version we have from an Alternative Universe, as the original 616 one was killed off almost straight away?
We also have Mark 1 Ironman from the 'Movie' Universe!!
This idea would also restrict the use of The Original (Future) Guardians of The Galaxy, as they are also from an Alternative Universe. ...and I personally would love to have Starhawk in the collection.
So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for these sci-fi guys...
BD

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

peronally i would love to see Killraven in this collection,He would be the exception to the rule,
As it would be a bit late in the collection to start doing different versions from alternate verses, Ultimate , Amalgam etc.
With Marvel no longer holding the license to many classic fantasy/ sci-fi characters it would be great to see Killraven given the green light.
I loved the P Craig Russel series.
Oh Rich, If you go "curveball" for friday's reveal , How about Thongor of lemuria ? that should garantee a heated debate :)

SinisterVenom said...

Welcome back Robert, certainly been a while.
I got my Jocasta yesterday, looks great. I put her next to Ultron and I immediately noticed the difference in shinyness. Jocasta has that silver look about her where Ultron is grey compared to her. Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't those two have the same silver colour?

BobDiamond said...

Thongor would definitely be a curveball choice Ted! But is also a Licenced character, so little hope even if you were being serious...sorry, couldn't tell!
However, wouldn't it be great if we could have the Marvel versions of Conan, Red Sonya, King Kull, Solomon Kane, etc. and other licenced chacters like Fu Manchu (to go with Shang-Chi).....and I know there's a lot of love out there for Rom!!
Ah.. alas, not to be I suppose...
BD

Robert said...

Good point about the movie Iron Man figure not being Earth 616, Bob, I'd forgotten about him! And as for Blink, well, I know less than zero about the X-Men after Byrne left so I had no idea she was an alternate version. Thanks for correcting me.

Also, if the collection continues beyond 180 I agree it would be a shame if we didn't see the Guardians of the Galaxy. They may be fom an alternate future but they've interacted with the main MU in memorable storylines. MTIO #4-5 are cracking issues and of course they appeared in the Avengers. (Come to think of it, aren't they honorary Avengers?)

By the way, I wasn't disagreeing with the inclusion of alternate reality characters, just commenting that they seemed to me to be excluded from the collection.

Jacadoo said...

Nice to see the Inhumans are coming together - although I would have preferred to see Alpha Flight get there first.

I think we need to get used to the idea that the twins will be in seperate packs - although I'm sure there will have, to be some stretching regarding the mags.

Hey nice to see Robert back a bit spooky as I just received my SShow LS Galactus Bust this very week!!

I was so happy I went out and purchased the Bowen Terrex - so please Rich confirm / consider this herald some time soon.

Is there any point in asking about Tiger shark / Stingray or even Sasquatch?

And last but no means least how left field would Deathcry be?

She would make an excellent looking addition.

Robert said...

Good to hear from you, too, SinisterVenom.

I don't have my Jocasta figure yet to compare her with Ultron, but according to the Marvel biography site Jocasta is made from Titanium steel while Ultron's outer shell is Adamantium. Maybe that's why they look different...? I'm speculating here, myabe someone knows for sure...?

Robert said...

Crimeny, like old school week for me today. Hi, Jacadoo!

The Galactus bust is lovely, isn't it? Still not sure about the cannon on the head or the neck bolts or the general fussiness of the detailing but it's still immense.

As for Terrax, I'm confident he'll be in the 160-180 extension. ;)

Thor8 said...

You guys have Jocasta already? By Odin's beard you sure are lucky. I'm still waiting for The Black Knight to arrive, can't wait to see him displayed along with my other Avenger figurines not to mention Hellcat, Tigra and Jocasta herself. Although come to think of it Hellcat will be placed in the Defenders group (she never was officially named an Avenger).

Really sorry for your lost Ted,I know how it feels when something like that happens a long while back I experienced the same thing with Juggernaut.

About your inquiry SinisterVenom, Most of the time when Jocasta and Ultron appeared together in a story they were given different tones of "silver", I believe it was done so that they would more easily stand out from one another.

I'd like to see an Avenger (curveballl or obvious, make your pick) be the next approved figurine in this extension. There are still quite a few of them left to be made.

Thor8 said...

Speaking of figurines from alternate universes being excluded from this collection, isn't figurine #3 the ultimate version of Doc Ock?

mighty_marvel said...

don't have to get used to it yet jacadoo. still time for EM (or whoever is holding it up) to see sense and put them as a double pack. seems daft to me to at not least test the proverbial waters and try a double pack of 2 standard sized inter-related figures.

still think that terrax will need to be special sized about the same size as kingpin. although shorter than the other specials he is quite bulky (2750 lbs according to marvel.com) and there's his axe as well.

i reckon we'll be getting photon confirmed next week. imagine rich will go through the obvious choices first

SinisterVenom said...

Oh I see, if there's meant to be a difference between the two silvers then that's ok then.
That's right Thor8 my Jocasta was ready for me by Thursday, I'm really looking forward to getting Jubilee next, she looks awesome. I have noticed however that no leaflet featuring FFF has been placed in any magazine since he was released last month...I guess I'm gonna have to resort to buying online from the main site or ebay...
I think it would be best to get the obvious ones first actually. Now that I thought about it I would rather know the ones who I'm positive will make the collection first and then we wouldn't have a clue who to expect for the rest of the extension after that.

Robert said...

You're right (again), Thor8, Doc Ock is the Ultimate version.

You know, the more I think about this the less my impression that the collection was basically Earth 616 makes sense. Apart from Ultimate Doc Ock AND movie Iron Man AND alternate reality Blink, some characters like Ikaris, Shang-Chi and Machine Man only occasionally interact with main Marvel continuity. That also applies to the Marvel Knights Punisher stuff by Ennis, too. (It was also the case with Deathlok but I don't know what's been happening with him recently so his status might have shifted to have more interaction with the main characters.) In that respect, guys like Ikaris, Shang Chi, Machine Man and Deathlok have about the same level of contact with central MU characters and continuity as the Guardians of the Galaxy, which makes the Guardians (and other cosmic characters) stronger candidates for inclusion than I thought. Moreover, Howard the Duck met Spidey in MTU (circa #98, I believe) and I seem to remember an advert for a Howard/ Defenders mag, too, so that would qualify the Master of Quack Fu... and Killraven also met Spidey in the pages of MTU...

Banshee said...

Ok so not so fussed about Karnak although I am glad we get to complete an area of marvel with the complete Inhuman family (exluding Lockjaw of course).

Glad to see the Inhumans line-up is almost complete, definetly agree with the call for Lockjaw and maybe further down the track Maximus could be included.
Killraven would be good inclusion as long as it's not the "mankini" look.
I'm really hoping that at least a couple of the Guardians of the Galaxy make it into the next extension.

BobDiamond said...

Yeah, you know you're right there Bagman, I'd forgotten THAT particular look for Killraven! I'm sure if they ever make him it will be the later stars and chain-mail shirt look (hopefully).

BobDiamond said...

just had another idea for a(hopefully) interesting debate...
If you could choose the oddest/ wierdest, but ultimately cool version of a character that has seen print (any Universe)who would it be?
My first choice is from the previously mentioned classic 'Avengers Forever' mini-series. Issue 11 features a version of an Alternative older Rick Jones. He's bearded, battle-scared and he's lost an arm through decades of inter-dimentional fighting! What's interesting is his collection of odd clothes and accessories, which include... The Eye of Agomotto, the Falcon's Boots, Ghost Rider's Jacket and....(look away now Robert, because this might offend!)...BATMAN'S Utility Belt and SUPERMAN's torn Cape!!
Whew!.. Now that would be a figure!
Anyone else got any weird ones out there?
Goodnight everyone,
BD

Robert said...

They wouldn't be cool, Bob, but if we're talking odd/ weird versions what about Homer Simpson as Superman? After all, this alien's idea of passing himself off as a human is to act dumb and clumsy... and there's no one dumber or clumsier than Homer. (In contrast, Peter Parker is naturally acident prone.)

As for the Bat Fetishist, he's had so many daft incarnations, especially in toy form, I wouldn't know where to start. Mind you, "Secretary Batman" always makes me laugh...

IDEA FOR THEMATIC MULTI-PACK RELEASES

Dear Richard Jackson & Eaglemoss,

I wonder if you can contemplate releasing monthly thematic multi-pack specials containing 3-4 characters that belong together, so that we can fill up and catch up with the Marvel universe more quickly.

Having multiple characters together also means that there'd be enough history for the magazine.
Some ideas...

YOUNG AVENGERS Multi-Pack:
Hulkling, Wiccan, Patriot, Speed.
£24

NEW MUTANTS fill-up Multi-Pack:
Sunspot, Magma, Warlock & Magik
£24

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Multi-Pack:
Starhawk, Yondu, Vance Astro, Talon. £24

SQUADRON SUPREME Multi-Pack:
Hyperion, Dr Spectrum, Whizzer, Skylark. £24

ATLANTIS Multi-Pack:
Attuma, Tiger Shark, Lady Dorma, Namorita. £24

PLANET HULK Multi-Pack:
Korg, Brood, Caiera, Miek.
£24
And so on. The possibilities are endless.
I, for one, would be more than happy to buy a £24 multi-pack
and expand the Marvel collection
with awesome figurines at a much
faster pace.

My fellow collectors, what do you think about these multi-packs?

Anonymous said...

i've been banging on about multi packs for ages.
worried the collection is ending at 180 issues so multi packs make sense.
a good way of getting more curveball characters in the collection too !!

Robert said...

LOVE your idea of a 2000AD collection, Not-So-Mad Thinker. Imagine a shelf with Strontium Dogs, the ABC Warriors, a squad of Mega-City judges led by Dredd and facing the Dark Judges, some Ro-Busters 'bots, the Stainless Steel Rat (always loved that guy), Blackhawk and Zog, the Harlem Heroes, the Ace Trucking Co., Sam Slade, ach, the list could go on and on.

As for multi-packs, after months of insistent appeals, we still can't get Rich to commit to THAT Alpha Flight double pack, so the odds of a multi seem slim at best. Unfortunately.

jimbob said...

Im sure Rich said that multi-packs are a no go area on the forum.

There are so many specials i would rather go through first.

Not prepared to spend £24 on a bunch of curveball characters.

The Twins double pack would be the only double pack that can possibly top most specials at the moment.

Jacadoo said...

The questions regarding a 200ad collection has been asked a few time - have we ever received a response?

I for one have jusr re-discovered the ABC warriors, Slain and Rouge Trooper - so come on Rich whats the chances.

Just a note I know Citadel produce minitures from 200ad so perhaps we may stumble into image rights again.

Hope not - over to you Rich.

Sorry I did mean 2000ad...

I believe that one of the reasons that EM is a little reluctant in producing many of these is due to too many suggestions and wants."Specials" such as multi-packs and double packs should be produced only when the characters involved are truly inter-woven and can't really hold a mag on their own such as The wreaking crew or The Warriors Three, but are popular enough to assure good sales. Same thing goes for megas and specials. The characters chosen for megas should be chosen for their popularity, not just because they're very big and specials should really be special and not just someone "I" believe should be "special". So what I'm trying to say is maybe if we all narrow our specials lists down to just one or two we might just see better results, and if those chosen turn out satisfying results we might see more in the near future!

Early this morning, I read what Thor8 wrote about specials, multi-packs and so on and it's been rolling around in my head all morning and early afternoon.

At first I thought we should run with his idea and start a poll where we all select three (or five) for each list (special, mega, etc.), then narrow this down through stages to final choices. Of course the place for that polling would be the forum, rather than here.

However, an idea just popped into my head. What about voting to elect a representative as a link between us and Eaglemoss, sort of like a fans' rep on football boards?

Qualifications for such a rep? Fairly obvious ones. It would need to be someone who has been a long-term poster here and on the forum so that they have a good knowledge of us, the collectors. Someone who would be trusted by us to be impartial and fair. Someone who knows Marvel history inside out.

For me, there is one obvious candidate: Thor8.

I humbly accept your vote for blog representative.

Unaccuustomed as I am to public speaking ... etc ... any way I will do my best.

First subject: -

The only thing worse that a Dragon with Purple Underpants is a Broken Dragon with Purple Underpants.

Repsonse from the Moss men is required.

Robert said...

Hmm. Not sure how much sarcasm was in that last post, Deadpool. Okay, then I'm going to interpret your post in the way I want to: as your agreeing with my idea and that you are also throwing your hat into the ring, Deadpool!

I had kind of imagined the rep as someone who only had input into the selection of characters in any extension but it is clear that Deadpool's first policy is to try and do something about mail order breakages. (I'd also imagined a non-controversial, diplomatic, statesman-like figure but hey ho! :) ) Considering how often breakages are mentioned, this sounds like a vote winner! (Slogan?: "I'm gonna beak a leg to stop your breakages!") Anyone else meet the criteria and want to stand for election. (If we get some momentum here then Rich is more likely to take us seriously!)

BobDiamond said...

Interesting idea about a 'Rep' position proposed there Robert. It would also be interesting to hear Thor8's views on the subject...
Anyway, I wanted to respond to Thor8's previous post about narrowing down our personal choices for certain catagories...a bit like Deadpool's idea for Regular figures. Here's what I think are essential in terms of Classic appeal, History, Number of Appearences and Popularity....
Mega Special: Eternity (He represents the Whole Marvel Universe)
Special: MODOK (Arch- Villian with a very unique look)
Double Pack: Original Torch and Toro (He started the Whole thing way back when!)
Triple Pack: The Warriors Three ( Classic Kirby character design and the only REAL contenders for this catagory)
(...I never did experience any more love out there for my Sons Of The Tiger idea....One day guys...one day...)
If we all gave ONE idea for each of these special catagories, it would be very interesting...and it really makes you think about choices and priorities.
Let us know what you think guys...

As a blogger who rarely stoops low enough to engage in sarcasm, I would like to reiterate the frustration regarding breakages.

I for one would like to vote for Robert.

Despite the odd bout of tourets, he is a rather level headed ["add your own expletive here"] kind of guy.

I would be honored to be his cohort in this bold venture.

I am on a personal quest for Black costumed spidey's lost fingers.

As for Specials - my choice (if Modok and the Norse types are already taken) is --- predictably and rather patiotically -- the original Captain Britian and Lionheart.

Deadpool said...

Finally ... I received my package today.

Red Robin - excellent figure.
Tigra also very cool but the fingers on her right hand were rather poorly formed.
Jockasta - Also very good with a nice dull chrome that is a cool contrast to Ultron.
Golden age flash - nice figure but I hate the character.
Finally the Dragon with the purple underpants - also a nice scultp, but I am alarmed by the rate of breakages.

I am drooling at ghe prospect of Black Canary next month.

Nighty Night.

yippee , i got fing fang foom today shame they forgot to send me destroyer first , oh yeah and just one other thing eaglemoss , is there any chance you could send me a fing fang foom with both wings and arms attached as they seem to be missing , oh and also could you get someone who's older than two to do the paint job next time please ? bit crappy !!
kind of expected half as much with such an awkward sculpt though.

robert :

one or two updates back , we played a few games - the idea was to create a list of 20 characters for a future extension.
now play my game , only one choice allowed from each category and i will keep updating the lists so far as we go along. if someone picks a character you wanted you will have to go for another choice.
get your votes in fast people as it will work on a 1st come 1st served basis and once we have the full list of candidates hopefully rich will take notice and perhaps there will be a chance of the chosen characters getting into this amazing collection !!
vote for one character in each of the following categories :

list 1 = 20x regular issues
list 2 = 15x special issues
list 3 = 10x mega special issues
list 4 = 10x multi pack specials

i'll start us off with :

puppet master regular issue
wendigo special ( grodd size )
mojo mega special
elsa + ulysses bloodstone ( twin )

Here's my picks:-

FIRELORD (regular)
LOCKJAW (special)
THE STRANGER (mega-special)
STARHAWK/ALETA (twin-pack)

WOW! I read your suggestion earlier today Robert and believe me I feel quite honored that you believe me capable of handling such a post. I'd gladly would do so but I believe there are other bloggers(yourself included) whom would do just as good, and quite possibly even better job as I would. If EM see this as feasible maybe it could be a two or thee man team. Of course when I say man I'm also including the feminine bloggers among us also.

Going back to what I said about "specials" I see various bloggers have already started to send in their wants again. You see that's exactly what I was referring to.If we all start to send in want list we'll be right back were we started. I believe we should really think hard and seriously which character or characters really qualify for each category based on many of the characteristics mentioned by Bob D in his last post, and not be in a rush to name characters. For example I'd love to see a Mega figurine of Goliath/Giant-Man in my Avengers line up,but if the majority say nay I would have to bow to their decision(even if I cry myself to sleep)and accept he or she whom is wanted most.

Smiffy aka Slapstick aka Mad Thinker :) i will have a go at your little game

Special, Odin
Special (grodd size), Onslaught
Mega, Living Tribunal
Double, Toombstone + Hammerhead

Come on, guys, I was being serious! I fail on ALL the criteria I mentioned! Even the one I initially thought I passed (knowledge of the MU), I later realised I fall down on because I know diddly-squat about the X-universe! We need someone who is on here and the forum, a popular long-termer, a calm diplomat with deep knowledge of the MU! It was a nice surprise to be mentioned but that's not even remotely me!!

Anyway, back to reality. I agree that there are other feasible candidates, Jacadoo and Pirate Adam spring to mind, Thor8. And Deadpool would be an interesting shout, too, because he would think outside the box. I just believe you are the best candidate to represent us. Even your humble reaction to my idea backs me up on this. You'd be unbaised even though everyone knows you have a personal fondness for the Asgardians and olde timey Avengers. I just think that now that the collection is much less predictable and the old five families framework has largely disappeared that it would be helpful to have someone for Eaglemoss to bounce ideas off and hear an opinion. There are too many of us to canvass individualy so a representative is a logical move.

P.S. I probably should have made clear in my first post that I'm happy with the selections that have been made and have nothing but admiration for Rich and the team. Juggling such diverse tastes is not easy. And I'm sure Rich and the team read a lot of posts and have an excellent awareness of what we're all chattering about. I'm just suggesting that a rep would help, that's all.

BobDiamond said...

I'll join in Mad Thinker's 'Game', although it is basically what I suggested in my last post....
MEGA: Eternity
SPECIAL: MODOK
DOUBLE: Orig. Torch & Toro
TRIPLE : (If Allowed- but don't count it, if it isn't!) Warriors Three
STANDARD: Baron Strucker
ps...Rep Idea...from what I've read, I think that either Robert himself, Thor8 or Ted Sallis would all be good choices.

May I also submit my resume.

Since I live almost next door to the Moss Men lair (they are in Jarrow and I live about 20 minutes away)I would happily pay them a visit on behalf of you guys.

Maybe have a guided tour, take a few photos, grab a bite to eat with the Moss Men (I've heard they are fond of worms) and be lavished with gifts.

Anyway... I will endulge you Mr Thinker by playing the plagurised Deadpool - "lets pick a figure game" with the following:-

Darkchylde (the Horny version) regular issue
Hela special ( grodd size )
Original Avengers Giant Man mega special
Original Captain Britain + Lioneheart ( twin )
Witchfire, Magic(Amanda Sefton), Belasco (menage et trois).

I also endorse the Bloodstones (particularly Elsa) the Torches-Two and the Warriors-Three

On the subject of multi packs , I think if we do not see the Northstar/Aurora twinpack then there will more chance of you getting Hansel& Gretel announced.
There is quite a debate on the forum over this , And to be honest i think Eaglemoss are more than a little culpable on this matter ,
It's their poor choices of doublepacks that have unsurpringly been sales flops " allegedly"
I would wager if last year instead of shoe horning Lilandra and Prof X together ( it has to be said it was also overpriced ) If the much wanted Nothstar/ Aurora had been released in it's place , We would be chatting today about how excited we are about the upcoming release of the Wrecking Crew or Sordsman& Mantis.
In all honesty i know zip about N+A i thought they were part of the my little pony collection :)
But as i have always done with this collection i would have purchased it to support the continuation of this fab series and in doing so hopefully make multipacks a viable option for the suits at EM who have of course every right to expect a profit. But don't punish the collectors for previous poor choices release the multipack that the fans actually want and if the sales figs are poor we can all shut up about multipacks as we would have no one but ourselves to blame.
Ted for rep? , god no!
you need a well balanced guy or gal and like Robert my knowledge of X stuff is poor.

Robert said...

Thanks for your input, Gremlin. (Actually, you strike me as another more-than-decent shout for candidate.) You're right of course in saying that we don't "need" a rep. However, the idea of rep is neither intended to be a replacement for this blog or for the forum. It would be IN ADDITION to the blog and forum. It would increase the amount of contact we have with Eaglemoss rather than reduce it.

Rich has stated that he is willing to let us pick five of the 160-180 extension. I think an election of a rep, even one who was only active for the 160-180 extension, would just be another way to communicate what we want to Eaglemoss. I'd obviously still favour some sort of voting or competition over the selection of some of the extension figures.

I don't want to keep harping on about this but I do want to make the point of it clear.

Thor8 for rep!

Anonymous said...

A blog representative?

Why would we need or want one of those things? Considering how diverse the tastes and desires of everyone who posts here and on the blog, it would be foolish. Nobody shares the same tastes in the characters they like and the ones that they want to see made. So the representative wouldn't represent everyone regardless. Just sounds like a bad idea in general. Eaglemoss is well aware of what people want to see. They read the forums and the blog. That's good enough.

Also... a couple points.

"You're right (again), Thor8, Doc Ock is the Ultimate version."

No, it's not. The version of Doc Ock that was done in the figurine line is from the 616. Ock had that look in the 616 for awhile.

C'mon bloggers. It is not superheroic at all to accept the status quo without even trying to change things.

Multi-packs are the only real solution to quickly fill up and catch up with the great many Marvel characters we love without having to wait 1000 light-years.

I don't believe that everybody is happy to get a Fin Fang Foom for £18 when the same amount of lead could be used to create 3-4 characters that belong together.

Surely it'd be better to get, say, all of Galactus's heralds in one go, or all of Thor's Warriors Three in one go, or 4 Young Avengers in one go... of waiting years while they appear randomly in-between other characters or are totally sidestepped for so-so characters like Jubilee or Beetle!

I'd buy a meaningful, well chosen thematic multi-pack every month to ensure that important areas of Marvel history are covered quickly and in a coherent way.

Eaglemoss, please do try to give us a few multi-packs before we're grey and old!

Anonymous said...

How about they actually work out a way to make 2-Packs feasible before they jump into multipacks. Frankly the first two 2-Packs have been pretty good. And Northstar/Aurora would be great also, so hopefully they can work it out.

Anonymous said...

I'm not saying they should drop double packs. They are great, and I loved Xavier and Lilandra for example.

I'm just saying that there are many cases where it'd be more logical to produce multi-packs.
Galactus's Heralds, Thor's Warriors Three, Squadron Supreme,
Planet Hulk warbounds, Young Avengers, and so on. They belong together and there is no need for a long agonising wait or for them to appear randomly between other non-thematically connected characters.

Well formulated thematic multi-packs are the way to go if we want to speed up the pace of the collection and guarantee that important parts of Marvel history are covered with the coherence they deserve.

BobDiamond said...

What an excellent idea for a figure from Mighty Marvel- 'Death holding Captain Marvel'!
I've always hated the fact that we never got the PROPER Silver Age Classic Mar-Vell figure, but got what was basically 'Son of Marvel' instead. Now Death, certainly since the 70's Starlin era has become a powerful entity in Her own right, and what better way to display her importance in the Marvel Universe than by cradling Mar-Vell (who in a strange way is more remembered as a major character who DIED- a whole Graphic Novel devoted to it- than as an active Superhero).
So they would be the ideal grouping for such a tableau- as long as it's based on the classic Starlin 'Death of Captain Marvel' GN.
I know it (probably) wont happen...but it's a Great idea Mighty Marvel!

Shadow King (Astral Form) - Special
Ymir: The Frost Giant - Mega Special
Rocket Raccoon & Groot - Multipack

I'll play the game too

Regular: Meggan (To complete excalibur)
Specials: Strong guy
Double pack: Colleen Wing and Misty Knight

AS for multipacks, as cool as it could be, if they have difficulty with double pack I really doubt it's a possibility.

If he had bothered to look up New Mutants , it would have been obvious. If you are going to run a game like this it would help if you actually knew all the characters,or had the ability to find out about them if you did not.
Sorry That came out as a bit of a rant, but you get my point.

On to better things....

Hey Mad Thinker why are you not down with Warlok?

I think there are a few "Multi Pack" Bloggers here (ie the same blogger with different aliases.

Looking at the style of blog my guesses would be -

Triple pack
Robert / Deadpool / Bob Diamond

Double pack
Pirate Adam / Mad Thinker

Double Pack
Sinister Venom / Gremlin

Does anyone else have the same feeling about this?

Looks like I tuned in just in time.

Nopey Nope Nope.... I am neither Rob, Bob nor anything that rhymes with them.

I can confess however that I am Hel.
Maybe that is not such a sensible addmission, Hel hath no fury like a Blogger scorned.

However, I do think Gremlin is Ted Sallis.
After all, Ted has got a criminal record for impersonating a slug.

Since I am rambling a bit, it must be my other alias RICHARD's queue for a blog update.

Give me some ideas guys for this weeks topic.

Gremlin said...

Hey Rich, quick question. Back at #100 you decided to reduce the page number of the magazine by four to save money. You got rid of a few features but also two pages of history....yet you kept the middle pages of the iconic image thingy.
Then for a few issues you put two pages of hisory back and got rid of the center spread. At this moment we are back again to the center spread version.

Question is...is there any chance you can go back to having the more pages of history version of the magazine. Personally I never look at the iconic image center pages, I just skim right over it. I would rather have more detailed history as I have felt some of the recent magazines have really skimmed over the history of some characters such as Dazzler.
Some characters like Pyro it may be worth having the fewer history pages because of the number of issues he has appeared in is low. But many others can easily fill all the pages up no problem.

SinisterVenom said...

Well Hel I can fully assure you I am not Gremlin or anybody else for that matter, only SV. I did once think a similar thought to you like when Robert disappeared but I have those thoughts no longer.
Looking forward to the update tomorrow...

Thor8 said...

As Gremlin has mentioned,I too prefer more history over the center spread pages. If the character featured does not have enough history to merit so many pages than maybe you could feature a "The making of" section and show and tell us how a figurine was chosen and how it developes through different stages of processing.

Well here's hoping to see either Photon,Stinray,Starfox,USAgent,or Mockingbird in tomorrow's post. (and hopefully some sneak peeks)

Hilarious stuff today, guys. Nice to come in from work, jump on here while the dinner's cooking and feel a grin spread over my face as I read all the speculations over multiple identities. (For reasons unclear to me, the temptation to keep this going by claiming to be someone I am not is actually pretty strong.) Hel, thanks. Even in jest (or not) it was rather flattering: Deadpool has much better ideas than me and Bob knows a lot more.

Anyway, one more day and we should get another update. Earlier in the week I suspected it might be the Wizard but I'd be more than happy with an Avenger. Surely the Swordsman will be included in this extension...?

Lastly, thanks to Mad Thinker for organising the poll and compiling the lists.

On the subject of the centre pages of the mags, I quite like the reproduction of the covers. That said, I'd prefer some more history.

The only bit of the magazine that I don't really read is the biographies of friends and foes. If it's a character I know well, I seldom learn anything new in a few paragraphs. If it's someone I don't know well it's usually 'cos I've never been interested in them much and therefore also have little interest in related characters.

However, Thor8's idea of a "making of" section is an interesting one. Mainly because of the photograph on the official site that shows what looks like an unpainted Hulk figure... a Hulk figure who looks much better than the one we ended up with...

robert :

i just checked the main site and you are absolutely right about hulk.
the unpainted sculpt in the background looks so much better than the one we got.
i like the way he looks like he's about to throw an object or smash something. a much more realistic look for him. if we get any re-do's or variants which have been mentioned before on here i'd like either hulk done in that pose or one of his enemies or even red hulk perhaps ?

Robert said...

I have always suspected that the reason we didn't get that sculpt was because the angle of the body would mean it would need a larger box. Probably wrong about that but it does look a better pose. The Hulk we got was so-so and even the colouring was a bit shiney. I repainted mine...

Hi There!
Just came in from work and found about a million new blogs, most of which are generated by Hel's bizarre idea that we are all one entity, or splintered-off 'bits-of'..!!!
While I find it extremely flattering that I have been grouped in with the Legendary Robert and The Surreal Deadpool, Hel,......PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE believe us that we are all 'Individuals' (I'm not! -sush!)... any more speculation like this, could lead to serious schizophrenic tendancies from a number of fellow bloggers....(I think Deadpool's already a lost cause unfortunately)
Ps....I really like The Supreme Intelligence idea...he would be mucho weird and cool.
All the best to my multiple personalities out there!.. let's go and have a cup of tea...

Rob, Yor right about the Hulk fig shown on the sculpter's work top it is far superior to the " chest thrusting " Blecch! fig we ended up with.
A far, far wiser blogger suggested the only feasible way to incorporate redos ( i think maybe updates, upgrades or reboots would sound better? )
Would be to phase out the offending sculpts and replace them with the new improved upgrades . That way no upcoming slots have to be lost.
If you actually believe the spiel about getting round to "redos" after maybe 200 or 250 issues you are deluding yourselves. That in political speak is called kicking the subject into the long grass!
There are probably a good dozen candidates for the upgrade treatment, that every one could probably agree on.
Heck i saw a custom of the mole man turned into Doc Ock it was vastly superior to the official version.

Sadly, it's just not likely that any figures will be re-sculpted, Ted, even though it is regularly mentioned on here. Rich has been pretty clear on this and explained his reasoning.

This is probably niavete and wishful thinking talking, but maybe saying that they might eventually get round to re-sculpts is not just bull. If sales on the obscure characters start to drop after 200, and they have lots of voices calling for a classic resculpt... and they do it and it sells well... Who knows? Numbers (money) talks louder than we do.

However, surely the idea of variants has better odds? How many would buy classic Iron Man or Silver Centurion Iron Man? Or Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) rather than his son? Or classic Doc Ock? Or classic Beast? Or classic Mystique? Or classic Captain Britain? A lot I would guess. Yes, the magazine would then be pointless but it's supposed to be a figurine collection with a magazine, rather than vice versa. Again, if Eaglemoss dip their toe in the water with this and it sells well...

Anyway, since I am clearly in some sort of utopian dreamland tonight, I'd like Stan Lee to come over for tea tomorrow. When he gets here, you're all invited! De-cafe tea available! And no mucky shoes, mind!

Robert said...

P.S. Bob, some of my best friends are lost causes.

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

BOOOONNG!! I think you have struck gold Rob! Never mind redos , reboots etc
Just release them as " VARIANTS" of the poorer figs, that's bloomin genius,
I have read with utter disbelief reports of people paying between £20 to £50 for a green " variant " Quicksilver ???
C'mon EM give us some real variants instead of dodgy paint jobs getting hocked about on Eejit Bay .
P.S
THIS COLLECTION IS TRULY WONDERFUL , DESPITE MY WHINGEING :)

Robert said...

No idea how widespread this habit is but I have altered a few of my figures so that they are classic.

Captain Marvel was repainted to look like classic Cap'n Marvel.

Black Panther had his cape removed (took ages) and rubbed smooth, then repainted black and dry-brushed blue.

Ghost Rider had his chain removed and was rubbed smooth. Repainted in classic "blue" leathers.

Not got the skill to do substantial remodelling but mostly my alterations worked out okay.

P.S. I've said it before, but the collection will NEVER be complete without a classic red-and-gold Iron Man.

BobDiamond said...

Just a thought on your remodelling comment Rob.
Do you just keep your new version, or do you buy 2 copies for comparison?...
...And I really do wish we had the REAL Captain Marvel, not his son (although he's cool too, but NOT classic).. that decision never made any sense to me.
ps. Mad Thinker,
The Hood had a few additions for your list which should be included...
Regular- Howard the Duck
Special- Suger Man
Mega- Supreme Intelligence (really cool!)
Multi- Werewolf By Night & Simon Garth, Zombie....
(more Horror figs. would be excellent!)
All The Best,
BD

Robert: I did some slight alterations on some figurines myself. I had two Captain Marvels so I repainted one and turn him into Mar-Vell. I also customized my Punisher figurine by sanding the wrinkles and folds in his pants and shoe laces on his boots and painted long black sleeves and a high neck on his shirt, I then painted his boots and hands and fore arms white and whala! classic Punisher. I am now working on turning a Blink figurine into a classic Mystique.

Be sure to show us how it turns out Thor8. I, like many others on here I'm sure, was hoping for a classic Mystique with the white clothing and all too.

OMG ... Pirate Adam has hoisted his Jolly Roger in my underpants.

Since I am not into those types of "Back Door shenanigans" I have given him the address of Ted; who I am sure will allow him to dig for buried treasure.

Since we are back on the subject of modding, let me regurgitate an earlier suggestion.

"Gnnnnrrrrrrpuuuuuckcht"

The Moss Men should allow us to buy unpainted figures and other bits n' bobs so we can create our own masterpieces.

The blank unpainted figures would not be in a box, would not have a magazine and would be a much lower price.

Finally, since it has been established that I am me and Rob and Bob; are we happy that everyone else is who they seem to be?

I personally think Hel is Thor8, giving the illusion that there are more Aesir here than there actually are.

Food for thought....

PS. MT your additional Mega special is truly inspired.
I would even go as far as to say ground breaking.

Deadpool said...

Robert, I too live in your utopian dreamland.

When I was entertaining Stan the man earlier today, over tea and sticky buns (not the type that Pirate Adam wanted to supply), we discussed your idea.

Stan and I agreed that the best way forward was to release limited edition subscriber only variants.
Variants that were complete resculpts.
J.R.Junior wasn't convinced (he called round to borrow a roll of toilet paper) and stayed for the stickies.

Stan's argument was that resculpted variants would increase and maintain subscriber numbers while encouraging multi buys for the ebay market.

He then went home after berating PA for stealing the underwear off his washing line.

Once a plunderer always a plunderer I suppose.

Deadpool said...

How about somebody with a spare SPECIALS slot suggest THE TITANIUM MAN.

I think that would be cool.

Now for the my lates idea (that will undoubtedly be the subject of much ridicule and scorn, possibly ending in some sort of lynch mob or witch burning).

Multi Packs.

For instance Team multi Packs that contain a whole team from a classic story line.

Invaders
Young Avengers
Original Avengers
Original X-Men
The Frightful four
The Sinister Six....etc

IN VARIANT POSES !!!!!! tada!
In exclusive packaging!!!! tada!
With an exclusive magazine!!! tada!

Ok I apologise in advance (without any sincerity of course) for spewing forth yet another one of my previous ideas.

Web site and magazine update with sculpting guides.

Anyone remember that little gem? Or was it consigned to the ignore list with most of my other posts?

I requested the Moss Men to show us a figure being sculpted from start to finish.

I also think it would be a good idea if they advised us which materials are used in the industry that we as Modders could use.

And the Crowd went wild once again.

In unison chanting "SHUT UP DEADPOOL... for the love of god SHUT UP!"

Nighty Night ... unless there is an update.

Deadpool said...

Well Ted on the subject of Julian Clarey and PA .... I have just overheard a conversation that suggests that PA is going to introduce Julian to Iron Fist.

I sincerely hope that means the classic marvel figurine.

BobDiamond said...

Deadpool,
I'm about to relay an idea that will be equally reviled, especially by Viking gods and pirates, but I have the urge and therefore must release....
Howard the Duck (I can feel the hate bubbling up already..)is an often requested and classic Marvel character (Honest!!), but is VERY short (being a duck). Sooooo...he could be paired off with other well known (and equally hated characters), who are also on the wee side...eg...
HtD and Rocket Racoon (my personal favourate) or..
HtD and SPIDER-HAM!! (don't kill me!) or..
HtD and Forebush Man( Anyone remember him? Short bloke, saucepan on head, red longjohns...he used to 'host' the Marvel Humour mags, like 'Not Brand Ecchs')
Like them or loath them, they all have a place in the great Marvel Universe that we love!
ps. I got this idea from seeing the DC Figurine proposals ( more hatred coming...) They were/are going to do a REGULAR size figurine with both Mr.Mxyzptlk and Batmite (2 well known DC short-arses) together on one stand.
Anyway, I'll go now.. but I'd love to hear your opinions on this (esp. from Pirates and Gods!)
All the Best,

Aw, no update. Thank goodness for some brainstorming from Bob and Deadpool.

DP, your idea of a work-in-progress figure (on the website or magazine) is very similar to Thor8's idea of setting aside a part of the magazine to explain how a figurine is created. I'd be all for that. Rich went into some detail a while back about the Crimson Dynamo and it was really interesting. Only problem is what do you take out to make space for it...?

Bob, Bob, Bob. Howard the Duck?!? And here I had thought you were a sensible and intelligent fellow! :) Oh, well, I guess if enough people - blah, blah, blah - want to see the Duck - blah, blah, blah - then I suppose he should be made. Sarcasm aside, I do agree that enough support means a figure should be made, it would just be a wasted slot for me. At least you came up with an idea that combined two fringe characters like Howard and Rocket.

However, idea of the day (in my house) has to be a team multi-pack of the original X-Men. I like the idea of the Invaders (a great comic in its early days) and the original Avengers but we already have some characters from these teams like Cap and Thor. And Johnny Storm can pass for Jim Hammond. So I think Rich would be unenthusiastic on those grounds. Would be great to get a classic green trunks Namor and original Iron Man, though!

Finally, it's all very "Confessions of a Window Cleaner" on here today. Bob: "I have the urge and have to release..." Gee, thanks for sharing that with us, BD! Next week this blog will carry an adult advisoy warning...

Sorry Rob...
..but deep down (I know it's wrong!), but I just LOVE 'The Duck'!!!
Seriously, I recommend the first series in the 70's by Steve Gerber- you will love it (prehaps a bit dated know in some respects, but still a Classic).
It's the way a 'cartoon'duck interacts with the (slightly) more real Marvel Universe that makes it so compelling. Gerber was a genius, and way before his time...and that Gene Colan art work....nothing else like it, a true original.
Here I go again, talking about the 'glory' days...
Goodnight everyone,
BD

Robert said...

Now we really are about to fall out, Bob! Gene Colan is my least favourite artist. Can't bear his work. Never seen anyone cut so many corners. He's particularly bad for finding ways to avoid drawing faces: often, arms obscure faces; or the panel is from behind, above or the body is twisted in some way (usually knocked backwards by a punch) so the face cannot be seen; or with faces half in shadow, even in broad daylight. Another favourite is to have speed lines covering hands and feet. He also has a neat line in alternating between drawing figures so far away that they are tiny (and therefore not detailed) or extremely close-up, meaning he only has to draw a very small body area. It's like a masterclass in sneaky effects to cover up the fact he is leaving loads out. Look at the recent Cap cover he did (#601) and see how one of the fallen soldiers is wearing a helmet so big it obscured the top half of his head! That's not a helmet, that's practically a bathtub! I know he is well-liked but goodness knows why. I nearly had to go see my G.P. for depression when I heard he was coming back to do Cap again...

BobDiamond said...

Interesting comments Rob! ....and in a way I actually agree with a lot of what you say. Colan is a real 'Marmite' artist,-people either love or hate his work, and I remember finding it very confusing to look at as a kid- all those flowing lines, dark shadows and, as you say, distorted limbs. I never liked his work (at he time) when he was given 'Main Stream' Heroes to draw- Avengers, iron man, Cap etc....
However, his very unique style was incredibly suited to Dr Strange, Tomb of Dracula and Howard the Duck.He somehow gave these titles a gritty realism and a maturity that was way before it's time.
Anyway.. who says we have to agree on stuff to have a good debate Rob!?
As I said before, it's the banter I enjoy...Sadly, I dont think we're going to see much more of Colan's work,as I believe he is seriously ill ( that one-off Cap issue you mentioned was a few year's old and had been planned for a previous project)
Anyway, it's been fun, as usual..
Cheers!

Ah Gene "the Dean" Colan , Didn,t really take to his regulaar supe hero titles hated DD his forced perspectives always looked weird where Kirby's looked dynamic.
But! I agree with Bob that his style suited Dracula and the Fowl perfectly.
I saw a page of art for sale From the Dracula series , Trouble was it was inked by Vince Colleta!!!
That man ruined some great artwork through the years.
Favourite "Marmite" artist, The one and only George Tuska , best Iron Man ever and everyone wore huge comedy teeth?

Robert said...

"Huge comedy teeth." Brilliant and funny summation of Tuska's style, Ted! Ted, Bob, the Iron Man I grew up with was Tuska, which I would imagine must be the same for you both so I have a lot of fondness for him. His villains were often caricatures and, to modern sensibilities, probably racist, especially anyone from the Far East. We have to give the guy some leeway, though, as he was from another generation. And he did draw a great Shellhead. Wasn't so keen to see him on other titles and he was an awkward fit on the Avengers. I remember a very unusual editorial in an Avengers letters page where the editors explained that they were removing Tuska from the title because his style did not suit a group title! VERY strange to see such a blatant internal criticism from Marvel.

As for Colletta, I hated his inking as a kid but I've mellowed a bit. Certainly, he's a hugely controversial figure and his attitude to his job and other creators doesn't exactly make him likeable. Still, some of his Thor stuff with Jack holds up fine. The scratchy, thin lines contrast quite well at times with the smooth, bold lines of Sinnott and give the look of FF and Thor a different feel. (Which was Stan's plan, of course...)

Yawn.

It must be raining.

Everyone has their anoraks on.

I'll come back later.

There is a time and a place for chaos and mayhem.

Now obviously isn't one of them.

PS ... I think my ploy of making DP, Robert and Bob seem like different bloggers is working.

3 votes in every blog game for me...

Well Robert regarding Northstar and Cap.
It's common knowledge Steve ...Rogers.

You've got me, Deadpool, I am indeed an anorak wearer and wear it with pride. I should point out, however, that my anorak has a blue star on the chest and red-and-white stripes down the stomach! Anoraks Assemble!

Oh, and neat play on "roger", DP. I was starting to wonder about your continous sexual references, though, and have just realised that this is just your clumsy attempt at flirting. PA and Ted knocked you back so it's Bob and I's turn to get chatted up. Your interest in all us intelligent, ripped males on here is flattering but this is not a dating site. :)

You forget Robert .... we are actually the same blogger.
A point that is even more disturbing.

Ok having played the fool for the last few days, the male bonding is over.
That kind of bonding is not my cup of tea, but I do seem to have teased out a few who have their own doubts :P

Back to more serious stuff,

Well PA all I can say is that it is about bloody time I got my own blog spot :P

And here is this weeks Character ....Drum roll please .....

Domino - picture to be included later.

And this weeks discussion topic is: -

What would be the best way for the Moss Men to refresh the collection?
This isn't necessarily a request for lists, more like ideas.

I'll get the kettle boiling: -

Figure Variants
Some exclusive to subscribers, some available to everyone.

A competition for the best modification or scratch built character. (The character must be within the size restrictions of a Regular figure and be mounted on a regular MARVEL base).
The prizes as follows: -
1st Choice of Mega, Multi, Special and Regular for the extension
2nd Choice of Special and Regular
3rd Choice of Regular.

Ideas and comments please.

See Ya later guys ...(said in a deep manly non ambiguous way, completely gender and orientation specific)

All for variants as a way of getting the lesser loved figs upgraded. Total resculpts not a new lick of paint
Nice idea for a comp. How about there only being one character for the scratch sculpt say...Howard The Duck? ,Your entry( steady DP! )
could be a drawing , sculpt or an essay "Why howard should be made" in less than 100 words for the less arty.
Oh i succumbed to geekish urges and bought Marvel ultimate Alliance 2. .. Pish!
The voice actor playing Deadpool was intensley annoying.
Unlike the original we have among us :)

Just finished reading Hulk #608 and Red Hulk was carrying you around in his handbag, DP! At what point did this seem a good idea to you? :) (While we're on the subject, is it me or is the whole "Fall of the Hulks" stuff utter mince?)

Anyway, you raised an interesting point when you talked about the figure competition. If, as Rich said in a previous blog, he is thinking of letting us pick five of the 160-180 extension, how will we do that? Your idea of a modification/ new build figure is an interesting one. I have no idea how many people modify the figs, though, so it may have narrow appeal. Still, worth asking what people think, right?

If that was one pick, what about the other four? Polls? Another competition (or two)? What type of competition/s...?

I await a barrage of ideas, DP...

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

The last comp was a where's wally affair, Next time round i hope we get a slightly more engaging comp.
To the nearest thousand how many regular figs would it take to fill wembley stadium ? .
Or to the nearest ounce how much lead has been used in the production of the first 120 figs
( excluding specials )
Or ... pretty much anything other than the last comp!

Been up for a while cleaning the bike and had a few thoughts on the possible format of a competition.

Waaaay back, someone said that a written competition would take too much time for Rich and the team to read. Makes sense. So essays are probably out. It needs to be something that would be quick to judge. That leaves either a simple question-and-answer format (like Ted's ideas in the last post) or a visual format.

The first idea I had was photos of the figurines in unusual places, like the gnome craze of a while back. The figurines are small and would pack easily when we go on holiday. But that idea's a bit generic and dull.

So I wondered about photographs of the figurines in places where they have visited in storylines or just places that could be associated directly or indirectly with the characters. At the most obvious level you'd be talking about Cap at the feet of George Washington in the capitol or Punisher inside a US gun store or Thor in a fjord or Nightcrawler in the Vatican.

However, it's not just the obvious, far away places that would work. Spidey has been dunked in the Mersey and visited London and Belfast, for instance. (I thought about going to a London harbourside, setting a small fire and wafting the smoke over the Spidey figure to recreate the peasoup fogs the Americans still think come off the Thames.) The X-Men have been to see the "skyscrapers"(!) of Edinburgh and castles in Ireland, amongst many other sites in the world. Iron Man has been to the Scottish Highlands and visited a castle. (I could take a photo of IM outside my own clan castle!) And there are loads more exmples of the Marvel heroes hopping around the world. We can demonstrate our obscure knowledge of forgotten stories and a bit of inventiveness, too!

Anyway, I await the inevitable indifference and criticisms...

Robert said...

Sorry. I focused on places you can actually go to.

No reason why we can't accept entries that involve some jiggery-pokery with PhotoShop...

Electro on top of a telegraph pole? please DO NOT TRY THIS!!
or a certain swamp dweller in okefenokee..
Could be a laugh Robert

Robert said...

That's the spirit, Ted! A literal association (Florida swamp and Swamp Thing) and association by origin (Electro and the telegraph pole).

After posting I had some daft and very lame ideas like inverting the usual image of Redwing perched on Falcon's arm and having a Falcon figurine sitting on the claw of a real falcon. Can't begin to imagine what Deadpool will come up with if he chooses to join in...

create your own super hero or villain competition.
give the character a name -
draw a picture of him , her , or it and describe the powers they have etc

captain underpants for example , or bog roll man lol.

here's another idea for a competition
rich could publish on this blog - some characters from the marvel universe with all of the letters jumbled up for us to unscramble.
we then submit the answers via email to him along with our choice for the extension.
what do you guys think ?

try these :

1: TIMEDTHERHANK

2: DAPOLODE

3: CAPITALSATAN

4: WORDHACKDUETH

5: LIBWAVEINSIMON

Robert said...

Glad to see you are trying to come up with ideas for comps, Mad Thinker. You may be on to something with Bog Roll Man! Anyway, let's wait and see what support your idea for a design-a-character comp gets. I can't draw for toffee but I'd give it a go just for a laugh!

As for your second idea, unfortunately, MT, there are anagram solvers only a click or two away. We have no way to ensure people will try solve it themselves. (And if that sounds cynical, I'm just thinking about the multiple voting of a while back.)

Anyhoo, I'm off for a wee celebratory drink. Not often you win a cup when down to ten men!

Hi Guys, new here and just wanted to introduce myself. Late thirties, been collecting Marvel Comics since the early 70's and am emotionally involved to the point of loving all things Marvel and hating anything associated with DC. Favorites are Spidey, Hulk, The Fantastic Four and all things Norse-like. I enjoy all your blogs and thought I could possibly add to the repartee with my sharp wit, though-provoking interllect and obvious modesty. Let us hope Rich has had a good weekend and can enlighten us with another name on the list on Monday, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for either stingray, tigershark or sif.

Robert said...

Welcome aboard, Navaho. Never can have enough Norsemen on here.

P.S. Can't argue with your picks at all!

Hawkeye said...

Captain Underpants already exists!! My kids love him - seriously!

Welcome aboard Navaho - we need more Friends of ol' Marvel (FOOM!) on here.

HOT NEWS: Chris Evans (aka The Human Torch, not the ginger DJ) has been cast as Captain America in the forthcoming movie. Will fans accept him as two different Marvel heroes? Time will tell....

Mind you, Ryan Reynolds is playing Green Lantern having done Deadpool so why not? (and before you say it, I know GL is a DC character but the principle remains....)

Thor8 said...

Well I just want to add my two bits in welcoming Navaho aboard,as Robert said it's always good to have more norsemen join the blog.

Well we didn't get an update last friday so what do you guys think? Should we get two names from the extension list this week or keep it at one and prolong the agonizing fun of finding out who's on the list?

You guys want to play games? Okay here's a little history mind teaser for you Avengers fans (and Marvel Maniacs) out there: Who was the very first hero to shout out "Avengers Assemble" and when and where did it occur?

Anonymous said...

chris evans will be crap as captain america , i thought the guy from supernatural was gonna play him , he'd have been cool.
stupid having one actor play more than one marvel character.

how come nobody has entered my competition and unscrambled the marvel character names ?

i think we should get two names for the next update being as rich has let us down yet again with no update last friday.
maybe it's because most of us have been complaining about things ?
hopefully he will make up for it like he always does by giving us a mega update this week instead.
sneak peaks please richie !!
any of the following would be nice-
blob ?
omega red ?
x man ?
klaw ?
drax ?
silver sable ?
anyone from issues 143 - 160 ?

Robert said...

Oooh, good question, Thor8! Earliest appearance of the "Avengers Assemble" call to arms that I can recall is Cap on the cover of Avengers #16. Bit obvious, though, so I guess it's earlier...

Mad Thinker, can't say I am cock-a-hoop over Evans as Cap either. Still, let's think positively, give the guy a chance and reserve judgement until we see him in uniform, eh?

And two reveals, please.

P.S. Where's everyone gone? Even Deadpool and Bob are quiet...

The Hood said...

I think it was probably Captain America who first said "Avengers Assemble", I know he was not one of the original members but I couldnt imagine any of the others saying it first.

And on the subject of putting Howard The Duck on a base with another character how about Franklin Richards, I think I remember them teaming up before with Man-Thing, Artie & Leech.

SinisterVenom said...

A bad choice to have Chris Evans play 2 different Marvel characters. They've already done that with Ryan Reynolds, first appearing in Blade Trinity then more recently becoming Deadpool.
Surely they can find someone else to become Cap?
