Behold I return with answers...

Hello everyone, apologies for the frankly abysmal lack of updates, I don’t know what happened, I went away to NY comic con and next thing I know it’s nearly bloomin’ Christmas. Is that a sign of getting old – losing track of time?

Oh well, time for me to answer some reader mail:

Q1) Where have you been???

A1) Where haven’t I been! It’s been a crazy couple of months but I’m back now.

Q2) With the themed packs already talked about, could the CMFC finally redo some characters and give us alternate versions of classic, A-list characters?

A2)
This is definitely a possibility. However, at the moment we have not agreed with Marvel or internally if we’ll do Marvel subsets. Despite there being a few different groups that could be done, it’s not sure whether Marvel will have any spinoffs at this point. If we did, the idea of alternate costumes (say classic X-Men) would certainly be on the list.

Q3)
Why have EM decided against producing multiple versions of characters unlike every other marvel product out there?

A3) Simply put, we’ve listened to a lot of feedback and in general it has seemed that new characters are favored over redos. This does not mean characters are ruled out, only that the general consensus is that there are still enough characters wanted by collectors to not need redos. If you’re after alternate versions of characters (such as Age of Apocalypse Wolverine) then this also has been discussed, but more support – in the office and online – seems to be for new characters.

Q4) Do the forum members reflect the figures of subscribers and collectors that you know are selling? Why cant subscribers, who must give details with address and email, get something in the post to decide on how the collection should go? As inexpensive as printing our bills.

A4) It is very difficult to know if the forum (and here) truly reflects the numbers of collectors we have. Obviously not everyone that collects the series (especially non-English speaking collectors) is on the forum. In general, I think the forum (and blogs etc…) represent a significantly wide variety and number of people to reflect our collectors. Clearly not everything can be taken at face value; however, the forums are certainly more representative than the 8 or so guys (myself included) who sit at Eaglemoss making the decisions.

To answer the second point, we’ve run a number of web-based surveys in the past asking about the collection, and did initially send out questionnaires in magazines. It’s not a prohibitively expensive act (except possibly offering a freepost service) and is in general something us ‘creatives’ leave to marketing. I will pass on the request for this and see if we can make it happen.

Q5) I would love to see an 'Art of' book or magazine feature that collected all production pictures of sculpts, WIPs, paint tests, different sculpts, the design process etc. Will something like this ever happen? Art books seem to be hugely popular now. I would gladly lay down £25-£40 for a book.

A5)
A while back I looked into this and although it did seem possible it looked like it would be a lot of work. We use many different sculptors/painters for the collection and their input would be vital. We’d need to take a lot of time collecting more images from. It was debated in the office whether this type of book would actually sell. Plus it’s not something we at Eaglemoss tend to do, so there’s a little resistance to different ideas. I’ll bring it up in our next meeting.

Q6)
I love specials, I really do, but can we not have forced megas and large characters just for the sake of filling up the gap and making us pay a fortune. I really don’t know how many more giant characters I would be genuinely interested in purchasing and would prefer more double packs or to move onto theme packs instead.

A6) Despite some of the comments I’ve seen, I guarantee that we don’t simply do big specials to charge you guys more. We look at all the characters that could be specials and try to balance the sizes. We’re bound by our licensors to make sure our figures are a good representation of the character and often that means Marvel or DC recommending a height. I’m working hard with our marketing team and sculptors to try and get the best value-for-money I can for you guys. If a figure can be sold out a lower price, I’ll argue for this.

Double-packs are tricky because despite the size of the characters some costs are simply doubled – these could be the fact we need two separate molds, two separate production lines for painting etc…

I’m keen to have double-packs so I’ll be looking at our 2011-2012 special line-up.

Q7) How about a competition to tour the CMFC studio?

A7) I guess this is possible but the winner may be a bit disappointed. We’re currently just an office in London working on a number of magazines. The actual sculpts are made elsewhere but perhaps I could talk to one of the sculpting companies about touring their facilities.

Q8) What costume was chosen for the Beetle figurine? (Hopefully the second choice he displayed).

A8) Yes, you are correct the second choice. Pics will hopefully follow in the next few weeks.

Q9) A while back, Rich, someone suggested occasional guest-slots on the blog by other members of the Eaglemoss staff as a way of ensuring more regular contact without loading more work onto you. Have you considered doing this?

A9) I’m happy to let my co-workers take over this blog anytime they want. Unfortunately, we’re all in the same boat and snowed under with work. I’ll see if anyone is interested.

Q10) Rich, the comments on here regarding a second character with Lockjaw were not exactly wildly enthusiastic. Are you any closer to deciding whether or not to release Lockjaw individually or with either Maximus or Luna?

A10)
Umm no is the short answer. I’m not really any closer to a final decision. Essentially you guys have confirmed what I thought: Lockjaw could (and perhaps should) be offered as a separate special. We’ll see if/when he can fit into the run and then try and work out his size/cost. I’d like to believe we could do him justice and make him £10.99 but only time will tell.

Q11) In regards to an earlier post by Robert, who's sidekick would YOU like to be and why? (Well we know so much about each other, how about you share some of your views Rich?)

A11)
That is a tricky one, I mean first-up I’d clearly like to be the star rather than the sidekick. But then if I have to be a sidekick I guess it’s a tough choice:

Spider-Man- Not sure I could put up with the ‘witty remarks’. Plus I’d probably get written out of continuity when Mephisto reverses another wedding/relationship.

Wolverine- NO WAY. Just look at the number of partners that end up dead or hideously scarred.

Hulk- I tend to wind people up a little, not a good idea with Hulk – I’d end-up smashed.

Batman- Couldn’t deal with the ‘Robin must wear tights rule’.

Captain America- See Wolverine. Bucky’s tend not to last too long.

Sooo many characters just don’t do sidekicks, hmm, I guess if we’re talking about Marvel I’d go for She-Hulk’s sidekick. Let’s face it she’s a total babe, very protective of her mates and has some zany adventures.

If DC I think I’d probably just go for being a Red Lantern – I can be a bit of a stress head and the rage can build-up. Does that count?

Right, that’s enough questions for now (sorry if I didn’t answer yours).

On to sneak peeks, check out Spiral, Wrecker, and Quasar. Please note Spiral is not on base in final position.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Had a look at the bids on the stolen figurines of Karnak, Triton, Sable and Hydro-Man, and it seems there are only three different bidders...

Ahhh..I get it now (light-bulb moment)...good ol' Marvel Value Stamps.
Very clever Ted!

36 - Mr. Fantastic
50 - ?????

It's scary to think of kids chopping up hulk # 180 for cyclops or god forbid Hulk #181 for the shanna stamp, but when you sent off for your official Marvel Value Stamp display book you received the worlds worst Spidey poster a "realistic" Spidey superimposed on a B+W image of New York, The 70's were nuttier than squirrel droppings :)

Robert said...

I had no idea about Ted's question but I am pretty sure that Bob's is guest stars in MTIO.

Robert said...

Which, of course, means #50 is Thing versus Thing by Byrne. I still have my issue from when I bought it fresh out the used book store in Paisley.

BobDiamond said...

Yep...you got it Robert!...I think that makes it your turn...:)

BD

Robert said...

Oh. Right. Darn.

BobDiamond said...

Here's one while yer thinkin'...

What's the connection..?

Erik
Rita
Cassandra
Tom

Robert said...

Is it Erik Lensher (Magneto) was played by Sir Ian McKellan, who starred for a week or so in Corrie, and a famous character from the same programme is called Rita and, um, ... help ...

Robert said...

Asked the wife for ideas and she encouraged me to cheat by googling the names! Don't be surprised if she bids for the stolen figurines later tonight...!

BobDiamond said...

ung-ung (supposed to be sound of buzzer..)
Nope, sorry Robert :)

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Do they all take in laundry to supplement their wages?

BobDiamond said...

One or two maybe....but that's not the answer :D

BobDiamond said...

Come on guys..not that difficult- I bet Bagman will get it!!

Here's another while yer contemplatin'
what's the connection...?

You have me totaly discombobulated Bob, I thought Erik (josten) original Power Man now Atlas
Rita ( De Mara) yellow Jacket 2
Cassandra (lang) Stature, so i figured on them being size changers but i have no idea about this Tom cat:)

Robert said...

Bob, your second question is Nick Fury and his Howling Commandos.

Robert said...

Wasn't Tom Foster Goliath...?

Robert said...

Okay, I thought of a question: in the MU what have Liverpool, Northern Ireland, Montreal and San Diego got in common?

Robert said...

Okay, I thought of a question: in the MU what have Liverpool, Northern Ireland, Montreal and San Diego got in common?

And Paris, France?

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Your Right Robert . I should have just guessed at Goliath as he must be onto his 8 or 9th incarnation by noo :)

Robert said...

You did the heavy lifting on that question, Ted, so I can't take any credit.

Been tidying the loft in anticipation of taking some photos to show you, Bob, and everyone else who's interested. Still to hang Cap's shield, etc.

BobDiamond said...

Yep, you got 'em guys. pym particle Users and Howling Commandos.
I tried to make it harder using Tom and not Bill (Tom Foster being Bill's nephew.)

As for Robert's one...
Are they all major Comic Book Convention sites?- shot in the dark, that one....

Robert said...

Another question, an easy one: which Marvel writer thinks that Edinburgh has skyscrapers (snigger)?

Robert said...

Bob, it relates to the MU itself. It's actually a pretty hard question, I guess; probably unfairly so. The Paris and Montreal references are from the 1970s. The Northern Ireland, Liverpool references from the '80s, San Diego a little later (all these three from the same comicbook title). All linked by one character.

Robert said...

Do you need another clue? Paris and Montreal from same title in early 1970s. Other three from one title, 1980s (probably San Diego reference from late 1980s, maybe very early 1990s). So, two titles. One character. God, think I have told you the answer now!

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

"still to hang Caps shield" you ultimate Tony Stark you :)
Are they all locations that have been used in Spidey stories?
That is my rather limp guess.
Remember when Peter Parker and Gwen and JJJ ended up in the savage land, Spidey turned up and JJJ still couldn't figure out who the hell Spidey was D'OH!!!

BobDiamond said...

I Am Stumped!!

I keep thinking of places the Moleman has appeared in...but I know I'm barking up the wrong tree totally!

Is the Edinburgh one- Geoff Johns?

Robert said...

Correct, Ted!

The Savage Land story you talked about is mince. Roy the Boy really dropped the ball on that story. Stan was on vacation or speaking at conventions or something and left a couple of issues for Roy to write. Dreadful story. Stupid as hell. Thankfully, Stan was soon back on writing chores.

As they say, Roy Thomas is just a big John Thomas.

Robert said...

The Edinburgh answer is Chris Claremont. Page one of an early New X-Men comicbook where Byrne drew the muties fighting Proteus. At least John Byrne didn't drawn any of the afore-mentioned skyscrapers!

I always liked that Claremont did not feel the same need to remain stuck in New York, and that he usually did his homework before writing about somewhere (which wasn't that common). Sometimes, however, he made gaffes, and that's my personal favourite.

Robert said...

Uncanny X-Men #126, for the "skyscraper" gaffe? Darn my fading memory.

Spidey was first in Montreal (where he fought the Hulk; see last Spidey Masterwork; Romita artwork), then in Paris (where he fought Cyclone; lovely Andru pencils), both in ASM. The other three are from Spectacular Spidey. Sal B drew the (rather dumb) Liverpool two-parter by Conway and also the San Diego story with Boomerang where Pete is flogging his book Webs. The NI story is from an earlier SSM issue which made NI look like Ypres c.1918! No research done there, then!

BobDiamond said...

Excellent stuff Robert!
I thought of Claremont, but then thought he knew the UK better than that...oh well. BTW, If John Bryne didn't draw the Sky-scrapers, how were they referenced in the story?

Here's my last one for the evening...

What's the connection...?
Jeffrey
Steven
William (twice)
John

Robert said...

Steve Rogers, Jeff Mace, William Burnside and John Walker were all Captain America, I think. Need to cheat on other William but guess he was another Cap, maybe the black Cap from Truth?

Robert said...

William Nasland. (I cheated.)

But I was basically right, I think.

Robert said...

I had a thought: until Rich comes back, why don't I post one question per day from the 1976 Marvel Mastermind Quiz that appeared in the UK weeklies? I remember finding them fiendishly difficult as a kid, but back then I had read no more than a tiny proportion of the comics mentioned. Now I have read every FF, Thor, Cap, Avengers, etc. title and have a wee chance. You guys game?

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Hmmmm, Mastermind Quiz that does sound kinda intimidating , but heck, let's do this thing:)

Robert said...

Okay, I'll be back tomorrow with question 1. Nightey night, campers!

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

I am tiling a canaries beak and listening to the theme music from Hardcastle and Mc Cormick.

O.K., similar to Ted and BD but no numbers.
Who's next on this list....

The Falcon
The Thing
Frankenstein's Monster
Shang-Li

BobDiamond said...

Ted...I think your answer is -They've all been lesser known members of The Defenders.

Bagman FFF, I'm still pondering yours...

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Now i should tell you that up here in kiltsville it was aboot minus 10 degrees, therefor i had to act quickly to avoid brain freeze by ingesting several hundred mililitres of single malt, This may explain the abject naffness of my question. The answer being they have all at one time or anither been impersonated by the Chameleon.
I apologise, you deserved better :)

Robert said...

Evening, guys. Was thinking of trying to make an Invaders group and was wondering if DC have an equivalent to the Human Torch? I checked the website for DC figurines - I will shower later - and there doesn't appear to be one so far. I was also thinking of converting the Robin or Nightwing into Bucky. Any suggestions?

Oh, Bagman F.F.F., I have no idea who one of your characters is!

LAWay said...

I'm rubbish at these games, but will try my own challenge. What ties these characters together?

Spider-Man
Wolverine
Iron Fist
Blade
Deadpool
Swamp Thing

Its probably really easy. Sorry.

BobDiamond said...

Tough one Leigh,
I was going to say that they've all been in Marvel Movies. But then I noticed IronFist...but they were talking of making one.... No?
OK...is it that they all started off in a comic that was not their own title? Even Spidey began in Amazing Fantasy 15.....probably not that either..I'll keep thinking.

Here's one for you guys...
What's the connection ?:
Julia
Mary
Marsha

BD

PS. I think Bagman FFF means Shang-CHI, not LI, I'm supposin'. Still pondering that one too.

Bagman said...

Sorry, did mean Shang-Chi.
OK clue -- TOPPS --.

Robert said...

Topps? As in the cards? Or did I imagine that?

Robert said...

Sorry. Should have mentioned the F.F.F. when formally addressed the esteemed gentleman. Humble apologies, good sir.

P.S. Have you guys seen the Back to the Future DeLorean car with flip-over wheels, just like a S.H.I.E.L.D. hover-car? Wrong scale, I think (1:15 rather than 1:25?).

Robert said...

Guys, have a look at

http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/back-to-the-future-lights-and-sound-delorean-ar81497/picture332706.html

It's just a pity about the trunk and the cables along the chassis...

Bagman said...

Yep, as in cards.

Robert said...

Been cheating and I now know why Bagman F.F.F. wrote "Shang-Li" and it was a great, big, enormous clue! Shang-Chi's name is misspelt on the Topps cards! Never knew that. The cards were rare up in Paisley when I was a kiddie. Ah, you are not only the owner of an F.F.F. award, Bagman, you are sneaky little monkey, too!

Having trouble seeing numbers, though, so I haven't identified the next character in the list. Bear with me.

Robert said...

Dr. Strange, Bagman F.F.F.!

Phew! Was checking cards for numbers when all I really needed to do was pull up a checklist! Dummy!

BobDiamond said...

BM FFF, are you talking about those wonderful old 70s bubble-gum card sets (2 sets I believe)with the stickers (with the funny captions) and the FF puzzle card?
I had loads, but stuck'em all over my door as a nipper! (much to my dad's regret- DIY nightmare...).
Got a few left from Set 2, that I found a few years later though.
Can't remember number sequence however!

BD

BobDiamond said...

I wondered why 'Shang-Li' sounded vaguely familiar....weird memories from long-gone days....ahh.

Robert said...

Bob, have you started reading the Simonson Thors yet?

P.S. Anyone got a 1:15 scale model of a car to place against a CMFC figure? Was wondering if it would look daft...?

Bagman said...

Sorry about the delay, work got in the way.
Winner -- Robert.
Yep bubble gum cards, loved them as a kid and had them stuck on the bedroom door ,drawers, school books.
Thing i never understood is why the U.K. 2nd set had instructions on the back.
I believe there is a book somewhere that identifies the artists for the cards, bit more research required.
I'm lucky that i've got both complete sets 1975 and 1976, the
2nd set puzzle cards featured
Conan #1.

Robert said...

Bagman F.F.F., I can't take any credit for solving your question as you gave us two whopping clues. The art is classic. I thought I recognised most of the artists. I'm sure the Werewolf by Night was Ploog, etc. Rest will be the usual suspects of J. Buscema, Romita, Trimpe, and so on.

QUESTIONS FOR RICH
Now that the collection has reached 180 (at least), exactly three times the original production list, are you surprised that it has lasted so long? What was the general feeling at Eaglemoss about the potential of this collection? Were some folk sure 60 would be the limit or were others convinced it would run and run? Sorry if someone has asked this on the forum but I'm curious.

Robert said...

Ted, I was the winning (and only) bid on a copy of Spidey #163 tonight. Will tell you what I make of it when I see it, and then see about scanning it for you it so you can see for yourself.

P.S. Did you notice I posted on your blog a couple of weeks back? The message is connected to the biker pic.

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Lol, Robert i look forward to hooking up when this collection ends, It will give me a chance to use my shiny new bus pass.. I'm just looking through the complete set of original Marvel Value Stamps out of the 100 characters, how many do you think have made it into this collection? well i'll save you the tedium of checking and tell you..72....would you like to know who hasn't made it thus far? course not , but i'll tell you anyway:)
Conan, Kull and Red Sonja obviouly no longer in the marvel stable
Werewolf
The Warriors Three
brother voodoo
The Living Mummy
Baron Mordo
The Grey Gargoyle
Modok
General Ross
the stranger
The Golem
The Red Ghost
The Pluderer
The Swordsman
The Owl
Killraven
The Ancient One
Mantis
The Rawhide Kid
Mary Jane Watson
Hammerhead
Dragon Man
Byrrah
Lilith
Some of them are fairly dated now and have fallen into obscurity , but theres a good dozen or more i would love to see.

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

yeah gimme a Pluderer fig????

Robert said...

Glad to see the bus pass arrived, Ted, it will come in handy. (Yeh, I knew what you meant! :) )

Interesting piece of research. I would think at least half of them have a very good chance of appearing. The likes of Mantis and Swordsman are mentioned regularly. CBR Beast has been calling for Dragon Man and I think he has plenty of support. And I struggle to write more than a post or two without talking about the Warriors Three! The Stranger would make a great special and surely Werewolf by Night and the Living Mummy are some folks' idea of a great twin pack?

P.S. Warning to everyone. I knocked off the bow on my second Hawkeye tonight and it is refusing to superglue back on. Argh. I was using the world's most ineffective duster so how I managed to do this again I will never know. No wonder I dust once a year...

P.P.S. When this collection ends and we meet up, Ted, I'll be the guy wearing a flower in his lapel, carrying a newspaper under his left arm and wearing the Captain America shield on his back. Just to be sure I may also wear my Iron Man helmet and carry Mjolnir, too. Or, alternatively, maybe just look for the guy surrounded by a confused crowd!

Robert said...

I'VE SOLVED THE PROBLEM OF CLASSIC IRON MAN!!!

I'm a genius!

Actually, I'm an idiot. Let me explain. Been raking through boxes and finding statues and figures I'd long forgotten about. I came across three small figures: Hulk, Thing and Iron Man. They are all just about exactly the size of the CMFC figures! I can't remember the name of the series but they were kits that came in little packing crates with an Avengers "A" of FF logo on them. So, I can put classic Shellhead next to Cap and Thor. I know some people have been asking for him. I may even have mentioned it myself once. Ahem. So I have had the solution to this all the time! D'oh!

And there's more: I get to make a classic Avengers and Defenders line-up as I now have two Hulks! (My new Hulk is heaving a tank!)

BobDiamond said...

I've got three of those 'crated' figures Robert. They were selling them off cheap at my old comic shop about 3 years ago. I've got Rhino bursting through a wall, Dr.Doom- with flags behind him on a parapet, and the best one- Sub-Mariner swimming through an undersea forest with some kind of mer-thing with him. They were an excellent series and I wish I had more of them.

Now guys... over on the CBR site, you can vote for your top ten all-time favourite comic-book Artists and Writers. They will then compose a Top 100 count-down of both categories sometime after December.
Anyway, thought I'd share my choices with you (just in case you're interested!)
No particular order-
Writers:
Garth Ennis
Frank Miller
Roy Thomas
Kurt Busiek
Chris Claremont
Ed Brubaker
Steve Gerber
Steve Englehart
John Ostrander
Doug Moench

Artists:
Jim Steranko
John Buscema
Jack Kirby
John Bryne
Frank Miller
Paul Gulacy
Jim Starlin
Barry Windsor Smith
Steve Dillon
George Perez

As you would expect, pretty 'old school'- but you can't argue with class!

Love to know who you guys would pick....also go on the CBR site and vote- it's dead easy!

ah you cracked it BD. I guess it really was too easy, or you are a genius. either way, i will not post another challenge in embarrassment of making it too easy again. ^_^

BobDiamond said...

Cheers Leigh, but which one was it?
The movie connection or the fact they all started in a mag not their own(I think it is the last one..)

BD

Robert said...

Bob, can you remember what the series of figures was called? I've googled and googled and can't find them... Is Namor in green trunks?

Writers and artists. You won't be surprised to hear that my lists are very similar.

Artists: Sal Buscema, Ross Andru, Perez, J. Buscema, Starlin, Simonson, Kirby, Steranko, Romita (senior, of course) and Byrne (in the '70s). Could add lots more like Dillon and Gulacy, and a few non-Marvel guys like Ezquerra, Belardinelli, etc.

Writers: Stan, Stan, Stan, Stan, Conway (on Spidey only), Mantlo, Miller, Stern, Busiek, Ennis.

As for the poll, they are always skewed in the direction of what's current. Like the organisers polled amnesiacs. I saw a poll a couple of years ago that said the most beautiful woman ever was Keira Knightley. Yes, she's beautiful, but most beautiful EVER. Nah. Have you seen Rita Hayworth in "Gilda" or "The Lady from Shang-Hai"? Or a young Cyd Charisse (not "Singin' in the Rain" particularly, as she has a bob in that, rather than her usual flowing locks)? No, probably not. Hence the problem with that kind of poll. It's limited by the knowledge of the folk being polled. There are Avengers readers who don't know any writer except Bendis (which is rather sad for at least two reasons, when you think of if). There are other examples I could name but my wife made me throw out my soap-box...

Robert said...

It's called the Marvel Heroes Figure Factory, Bob. They made rather dynamic figures the same height as the CMFC. The Goblin is on a glider, etc. There are two types of Iron Man and two Hulks, though the differences seem just to be colouring. I may paint my second Hulk grey now...

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Sheesh i couldn't get near a top 10 artists. I could whittle it down to 100 mibbe, the guy that drew Johnny Cougar in Tiger?, Alex Schomburg, Bryan Hitch. Ach who cares ? The top 3 will be Greg Land
Rob Liefield and The Marvel Style Guide:(

Robert said...

Well, classic Iron Man is now jetting into the air beside the other Avengers! He even looks more in scale than the Shellhead from the CMFC, which appears to be a skinny teenager under the armour. The base is different, of course, but then I have the Abomination and, well, it's the 'right' armour, so I can accept pretty much anything. I appreciate not everyone will be able to accept this mixing and matching. Ben is the exact same size as the CMFC one, but Hulk, I've decided, is too small. Pity. Was going to paint him grey. The Figure Factory has some versions we don't have like mohawk Storm in black leathers, original yellow DD and Ghost Rider on his motorcycle. Actually, these are dramatic figures that are pretty cool. Wonder why they died out after only two series when the CMFC is so popular?

LAWay said...

just about to say super hero factory before i was beat to the punch.

Oh, and my answer was they all made their debut in comic titles that were not their own. ^_^

Robert said...

Thanks anyway, Leigh.

I used to think i gave up reading comics as a tweenager due to peer pressure , not wishing to look geeky ..... I now realise there was more to it than that. A long suppressed memory of something so horrific i had expunged it from my consciousness.. until now!!!!!
Marvel tv shows of the 70's sucked ass.
Spiderman was played by a fella named Hammond? a lovely lad as camp as Brighton seafront, Spidey was ridiculed on every tv show from Kenny Everett to Tiswas.
Hulk.. awful beyond words. 30yrs on these may be held in nostalgic affection but at the time these programmes caused me to become.....A Marvel denier!!!!
So yesterday there i was reading the paper and my little son asked who dat daddy?
It was an episode of Smallville and i have to say the special effects were amazing .The guy my son was enquiring about was some dude named Doctor Fate , then Hawkman appeared, The kids (and me ) really enjoyed it.
Which got me thinking why are there no live action Marvel series of this quality on tv . I know there is a Blade spin-ff on some satelitte channel, Special effects technology today mean any Marvel character could be done justice on the "little" screen.
And there is something called Mutant x ,that's not the kinda pish i mean.
An X-Men tv show would seem to be such an obvious cash cow, i must be missing something?

Robert said...

I remember going with my mum to see the Spider-Man movie you're talking about, Ted. (Hey, it was in Glasgow, haven for thugs, murderers and, probably, vampires.) In one scene "Spidey" rescues someone on a window ledge/ outside a building. As clear as day you could see the safety harness and my dear auld maw exclaims, nice and loud to spoil the illusion for all the kiddies, "Look at that! She's got a safety thingie on her!" But low budgets and crap effects were the norm for a long time. I mean, in Australia they followed a kangaroo about with a camera and called it entertainment, for crying out loud, and you're complaining about a big guy in green paint?!! :)

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Ach! Skippy was for mummies boys , i was a Tommorow people fan.
It was never the special effects that bugged me Robert it was seeing the Hulk reduced to a generic thick strong guy with some bad make up, I would be sitting reading a Herbe Trimpe Hulk in which ol Greenskin regularly hurled tanks and on occasion even entire mountains around like they were nothing.
Spideys on screen powers were a joke, It was seeing these " superpowered" heroes reduced to camp stupidity that embarassed me even as a kid.
Anywho i would still love to see some high quality live action Marvel material being made today, The first time i saw the Avengers in the tv listings i nearly wee weed with excitement, turned out to be some english bloke in a bowler hat and a saucy leatherclad minx.....nice:)
Imagine an Avengers live action spin-off after the big screen release..or The Impossible Man meets louis Theroux

You're right, Ted, the programmes were poor. In the context of the time (budget, special effects), I thought the Hulk tv series just about got away with it. But I was never a fan as such of any Marvel adaptation for tv.

Frankly, I have yet to see any film or animated series top a really good comicbook. I rate X-Men 2, Spidey 2 and Iron Man highly but if you gave me a choice between them and some Starlin Warlocks or Simonson Thors or Andru Spideys (and so on for hours), I'd still plump for the comicbooks without hesitation. No comparison possible.

On that subject, has anyone see the animated Doctor Strange film? Or the Iron Man one? They any good?

P.S. Getting the hump shovelling snow. Five times in just over two days. And my driveway is pretty damn big.

Talk of Marvel in the 70s got me wondering if anyone can recall the following...

Mighty World Of Marvel c. 1975-1976, ran a mail order only promotion for six posters which were Alex Ross style realist images by a Spanish artist whose name I forget/never knew.

There was Spider-Man, DD, Cap, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, and... now I'm struggling. They were all on plain white backgrounds and were stunning images.

I know it was around 75-76, as my brother was three or so when he destroyed them for me. I've never really quite forgiven him yet, but I don't think I bear a grudge anymore than, say, a Kray twin.

Anyone shed further light on them? I'd love to get hold of another set. There's probably a store room in Anadalucia stocked to the ceiling with them.

Robert said...

To the best of my knowledge, mgf, the British weeklies ran two sets of posters. One in 1974 and another in 1975/76.

The first set are advertised in April 1974, for instance on the back of Super-Spider-Man #162, which seems earlier than the date you suggested. DD, (a very Neal Adams-esque) Thor, Spidey, Hulk, Cap, Iron Man were included in that line-up.

The second set, if memory serves, has Spidey (kicking the Sandman), Surfer fighting Mephisto (VERY John Buscema), and a Hulk walking forward, and, er, that's all I recall. Even small, they looked lovely. Never owned any myself (I had enough trouble getting the comicbooks) but always wanted to see them. I forget the name of the Spanish artist who painted them. Maybe the world's greatest (art) detective, Bagman F.F.F., will know where can all go to view these stunning posters?

mgf said...

It must be the first set Robert. I'd have put it later as he was born on April 1st (...) 1973, but of course I suppose I could have had them a while before the little s... ibling attacked them with a set of crayons.

I'd love to get hold of that set again, or even to see them.

Cheers for the info.

Robert said...

If I had a scanner, I could have scanned the back page for you, mgf. As I am pretty much snowed in right now, the likelihood of me seeing my mate with the scanner anytime soon is remote. But leave it with me and I'll see what I can do, okay?

I think you're right to believ it is the first set as the second set had the Surfer. In the first set from 1974, everyone is portrayed alone. No backgrounds, no enemies. At least two of the second set (probably late 1975, maybe early 1976) have villains. As I said earlier, the Spidey one has him kicking Sandman, who is wearing the hi-tech outfit he wore for a time in the 1970s. (The one that let him mix his sand with other substances.) I think Sandy is standing on top of a building. The Surfer one has him to the right, blasting Mephisto with the power cosmic (in Hell, I assume). I think Hulk is solo. The other three I am unsure about and don't want to say anything till I know for sure. I don't know where to start checking for the second set and I'm reluctant to take the old UK reprints out the bags to check as they are disintegrating.

P.S. On the subject of siblings, I thought it was supposed to be mums, not kid brothers, who were responsible for comicbooks being thrown out or destroyed... :)

Robert said...

Correction, mgf. I meant #62, not #162. Posters advertised on outside back over.

Bob, wasn't Alice Cooper in his own one-shot Marvel comic in the '70s? And I seem to remember Dr Who was produced by Marvel, too, at least at one point... Am I on the right track?

I've seen most, if not all of Marvel's animated films, and a good bunch of their tv shows.

Dr. Strange was alot better than I thought it would be. I am not a huge fan of the character, but the film was alright. Nothing really , but decent.

Iron Man I was bitterly disappointed in. I dont particularly like the mandarin as a villain, and I hate filler baddies even more, and thats what was in IM. Just quite disappointing.

Avengers was really good, action packed and entertaining. Avengers 2 is a little lacklustre. There is also 'Avengers Next' which is kinda made up and seems aimed more at kids, but really surprised me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hulk Vs. is probably the best dvd marvel has put out. Hulk Vs Wolverine is epic, really captures the great fights from comics in animation, as well as capturing characters like deadpool brilliantly. Hulk Vs Thor (its a 2-disc Hulk Vs set - bargain) is also really good and is a film just filled with the power of these two characters.

Animated series wise, I recommend picking up Spectacular Spider-Man. Only 2 seasons, and every episode is brilliant, best incarnation of spidey in animation, and I dare say better than the films too.

I also enjoy Iron Man armoured adventures. Aimed more at kids it seems with the cel shading and making tony a kid, but works really well and introduces his minor villains and rogues gallery brilliantly.

Oh, and Planet Hulk is also pretty good. Basically its gladiator with Hulk in it. No bad thing, just he talks loads and the film makes him look weak. I havent read planet hulk so not sure how its related, but worth a watch.

thats it from me. no snow here in south wales. :(

Robert said...

Thanks for looking, Bagman F.F.F. However, we did not give the world's greatest detective much information to work from and I'm certain that's not the right image. Surfer is very dominant in the image, taking up most of the right-hand side. He is blasting the power cosmic downwards, I guess from his left hand, at an angle of about 6 or 7 o'clock. Mephisto is much smaller, to the lower left, maybe atop of rocky outcrop in Hell. From what I remember the look was immediately reminiscent of John Buscema and I was never sure if he was the artist or someone was apeing his style (there was a lot of that going on in 1970s Marvel, as you know). Having never seen the image full-size, I never knew for sure. I'm going to have dig out the old comics, aren't I? Was hoping to avoid that as they are literally falling apart...

Leigh, thanks for the feedback on the Marvel animated adventures. I was tempted by the Hulk vs films except for the weird angular anatomical depictions of heroes in cartoons nowadays. May try it now.

Ted, the Spider-Man I saw in a friend's view finder in the 1970s was based on an episode of the 1967 cartoon that starred the Rhino. Once upon a time I did try and find one of the view finders on eBay without luck, either. Oh, and ish #163 hasn't arrived yet.

Nothing to do with Onslaught, Robert, except Jolt in a very round about and convoluted way...so no :)

It was a bit of a wild swing with my eyes closed, Bob, so not surprised I hit clean air. I would have to cheat to solve this as I know zero about Jolt and very little about Mimic except didn't he die heroically in a log cabin with Hulk and Beast a long, long time ago? As you can see, I'm not exactly up-to-date with my X-Men. I hear they are recruiting a new bunch of folk, one a secret agent from Canada, another a weather goddess from Africa, and so on. I have an unerring nose for these things and it's obvious this new team will bomb. Remember, you heard it here first.

So far Spiral and Photon look like the absolute best yet which is pretty exciting...goes to show that as the collection advances so does the standard of the sculpts....

A few questions...

Will we see Mockingbird in her classic costume as I think her current one is really ugly and this would be a deciding factor on whether I buy her or not....

Also will we get to finish the Avengers classic line up with sculpts of Mantis, Swordsman, Starfow, Dr Druid, Firebird and Sersi?

Any chance of us finalising Alpha Flight in the near future especially with the new series just starting. Snowbird was beautiful so i cant wait to see Northstar, Aurora and Marrina.

Standalones i'd live to see include Selene in her original marvel handbook pose, Nova (Frankie Raye), Sage (Tessa), Magma (New Mutants) and Deathbird....

Whats the chances?

Ps. Mr. Sinister or uh, Paul, I would absolutely love to have those remaining Avengers in the collection...especially Mantis and The Swordsman. Those two would look stunning in the Avengers line-up so far.

Robert said...

I think the proper medical advice is not to scratch an itch as it makes it worse, Bob. However, I am rather tied up with a job application tonight, so the odds on me devoting any time to this question are slim. In other words, you can tell me the answer if you wish. Can't have you itching all night.

As for Swordsman and Mantis, Thor8 started asking for them around the summer of sixty-nine. It was a great time, we all had petals kirby-gripped into our hair and Hendrix was playing an open-air concert in Shepherds Bush. Frankie was stoned and fell off the top of a parked bus onto a No Parking sign. (Remember, we all joked that it should have read 'No Falling'.) He never really was the same, although whether that's through the head trauma or the drugs, we will never know. Makes a stonking casserole, though.

And wasn't Mockingbird confirmed as wearing the classic costume? The only question is whether that has leggings or not.

P.S. I have no idea what is going on tonight, either. Too much Led Zep, chocolate and telling whoppers on the job app methinks.

BobDiamond said...

Well...to start with Rob, I hope the job application went OK and wasn't too tedious. Those things can be mind-numbingly dull....so best of luck with that.
Secondly, I want to time travel to your version of the 60's..it sounds amazing! (especially the casserole bit-sounds yummy in this weather...)
Thirdly, the answer to my question is.....They are all official first recruits to Marvel Teams:
Cap America- AVENGERS
Mimic- X-MEN
Silver Surfer- DEFENDERS
Crystal- FF
Jolt- THUNDERBOLTS

Gotcha!
BD

Robert said...

Ah. Bob, I was always in trouble when you mentioned an X-man, a T-Bolt and a Defender, three titles I have only very slight familiarity with or interest in! Good question, though. (Never quite understood the whole idea of Cap being an honorary founder member. You're either a founder or not. I love Cap but he was a popsicle at the time the Avengers were formed!)

Job application went okay as I already had a similar application lying around. (Thank God for my autistic and OCD collecting tendencies!)

"If anyone figures this out, I'll sledge doon the brae in the scud." Gee, some incentive. If you talk Kim Kardashian into taking your place, well, then I'll give it a go!

Back from FP with two weeks' worth of comics and Batroc. Query: why is he twiddling thin air? He is not holding the moustache! In fact, with his thumb and first finger touching and the moustache behind and below them, he looks like he is giving the sign that people use to indicate something is just right. As in "How does that taste?" and a person with their mouth full makes the 'Just Right' hand signal. Really glad to see Batroc (not enough Cap villains), he's a classic character and good fun, but this is one of those things that, once noticed, you can't ignore. Anyway, a dozen comicbooks await...

P.S. Bob, I started re-reading the Simonson Thors. Again. Well, it's been months since I last read them and that's months too long.

QUESTIONS FOR RICH
1. You must be aware by now that Karnak, Triton, etc. ended up on eBay. Do you know how this happened and are you taking any action? (There seems to be a second Karnak and Sable on sale now.)
2. Are you or Eaglemoss surprised that the collection has lasted to (at least) 180?
3. Can you confirm for MrSinsinster which Mockingbird costume we will see?
4. Not really a question but a request: could you officially recognise Bagman's Fearless Front Facer award, please?

Thanking you in advance, good sir.

LAWay said...

Question for Rich:

Could we get a little more input as collectors. I know we have the votes which is awesome, but I am talking about the sculpt of a character.

Not sure about logistics as they may be determined more so by marvel, but it would be nice to have an option or 2 or 3 sculpts, showing us some WIPs and we can do a quick vote for our favourite.

Time consuming and awkward to sort out maybe, but I think there would be many more happy customers, not only for voting for a sculpt they feel is better that they want, but it gives the collector some worth, makes them feel appreciated and that they are apart of the collection.

Anyway, just an idea. Thanks

Ted, the postman's just delivered Spidey #163. I'll describe the poster in a moment but wanted to let you read the text on the page preceding the drawing: "Last week you read Dennis Gifford's aricle about Frank Hampson, recently nominated as the world's best comic artist - now for a mighty Marvel exclusive1 ... A special Super-Spider-Man centrespread drawn by Frank Hampson exclusively for Marvel Comics!"

The Hampson poster isn't as bad as I feared, it's actually quite good in places (the Houses of P and Big Ben). Even Spidey isn't too bad except for the fact his costume is ill-fitting. It's very wrinkled around the torse and to a lesser degree the left leg. It immediately reminded me of how artists draw a hero who has regressed to childhood or to a time before they were given their powers, or even when they've been aged forward. Maybe they could have explained it away by saying he was sent by the Bugle to London to take photos of the invasion and had to steal a Large-sized costume from a party shop. Coincidentally, in the Amazing Spider-Man reprint story in this very issue (the original Hammerhead-Doc Ock story), Spidey is wearing a cellophane mask where you can see his eyes, so it might have been accepted as possible by readers!

Ben is very small and I didn't even notice him at first. As you said, Hulk is - bizarrely - out of shot. (Why mention him then?) The heroes, and London, are being attacked by "armoured parrots"(!), "beaky, hostile aliens". The small text box is also a rather clunky attempt at humour, combining an old-style British adventure story with super-heroics. One other interesting detail: in the drawing the "Thames is being lashed by a vortex of fury". Basically, a whirlpool. It's in front of the Houses of Parliament, pretty much exactly where the whirlpool is located in the "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" movie! Weird coincidence or what?

BobDiamond said...

Robert, glad to see you've finally got that poster.
You might have just explained why Spidey looks a bit feeble in an ill-fitting costume....because the text bit mentions the date as being 2020-something, if I remember?
Old Frankie perhaps thought it would be good to draw Spidey as an old man! The Thing would look normal because of his stone effect (and he's in the distance..) and we don't see the passage of time on old Hulky..'cause he's not in the picture anyway!

BD

Robert said...

You're right, Bob! Hadn't really paid much attention to the dating. The comic is dated week ending March 27, 1976 and the poster says "2026", in other words fifty years in the future. That would make Spidey in his mid-to-late-60s, right? Maybe he was wearing the costume for the first time in years? Maybe he had recently lost weight due to some sort of old person's problems? Maybe the whole thing makes little sense? It's all very Marvel Team-Up/ Marvel Two-In-One: don't think about it too much, just enjoy the fun!

Very interesting...So far we have virtually 3 completely different 'wants' lists- apart from SV and me wanting Swordsman, BUT we all agree on wanting MODOK for a Special.

So come on EM (...and in the words of a famous bald Captain)- "Make it so."!!

Don't post on here much but can't resist a list...

1) Gamora - The deadliest woman in the universe needs to be made and in her modern GOTG look with the cloak.
2) Deathbird - Both cosmic fans and XMen fans can enjoy this one. Been around for over 3 decades and has a fantastic look to boot.
3) Wolfsbane - In her 30 years in the MU she has barely been out of publication. A solid choice for the next New Mutant.
4) Meggan - The last member of the original Excalibur team and an important figure in captain Britain history.
5) Darkstar - Again she has over 30 years of history and is a classic MK character. Plus her recent resurrection means she is back in modern readers minds.
6) Mantis - Although I first found her due to GOTG I would prefer her older Avenger look as I feel it's probably the more "iconic" look for her.
7) Wiccan - A modern character in some way but also a classic one. His story ties in greatly with the Scarlet Witch and right now he is starring in the rather popular Children's Crusade story.
8) Dust - OK OK I know many of you will turn your noses up at this one but when I first started reading comics seven years ago she had just been drafted into the Xmen and she was so different to any other character. EM could make a real nice sculpt of her if they use the same style as Hydroman.
9) Warlock - Yep, another New Mutant but what a look this guy has. He has a solid enough history but it's his wacky look that does it for me. EM could really make a top notch sculpt with him.
10) Jewel - Another new character but one that has recieved a lot of character work over the past 10 years. Right now she is on Marvel's most popular team and she is set for another Alias series too.

As for specials...

MOJO - We have Spiral, we are probably going to get Longshot so lets go 3-for-3 and have their overlord...MOJO. A tricky sculpt to do but I am fine with EM doing him all in lead...can't tell the difference with Sasquatch. He would have to be a mega and that mechanical scorpion-tail would have to be removed but he is another visually stunning character. Not likely to see him for a while though due to the current run of x-villain specials we are working through.

Brood - I want a Brood drone....dear god do I want a Brood drone. Not a queen....a drone. It's hoards of drones that Ms Marvel and the xmen fight. So by making a regular-special sized drone I could buy 3-4 of them and have a little diorama going on. A queen would be too big and there is only ever one. Makes marketing sense to go for a character people will buy multiple copies of.

Peace out.

MY TOP 10 WANTED:

1. ATTUMA
We need another Atlantis villain.
Looks great, and his history ties in with Namor, the Avengers, etc.

2. STARHAWK
3. YONDU
We need Guardians of the Galaxy, and these classics would make stunning figurines.

4. SLEEPWALKER
A truly unique character, both in terms of great design and MU area.

5. BLASTAAR
Powerful villain with fab looks.
Check out the Bowden sculpt to see what amazing figure he can be.

6. HYPERION
7. DOCTOR SPECTRUM
We need Squadron Supreme, and these two got great costumes
and lots of history.

8. MAKKARI
We need another Eternal, and poor Ikaris needs company. Makkari's costume is classic Kirby at its best. Would make a fab figure.

9. STARDUST
10. GABRIEL THE AIRWALKER
We need more Heralds of Galactus.
I just love the imaginative design of these two characters. They would enrich the variety of the CMFC.

Specials:

GRANDMASTER
Iconic cosmic character, involved in major Marvel events. Unmissable.

Double packs:

HULKLING & WICCAN
Best representatives to start including Young Avengers in the CMFC.

CORSAIR & HEPZIBAH
Best representatives to start including Starjammers in the CMFC.

SWORDSMAN & MANTIS
Great way of giving us these much loved classic Avengers in one go.
Their history together justifies the double pack.

Hi, guys. Couldn't stay off for a week! Nice to see PA, SV, Mighty Marvel, Max, K-Eyes and Gremlin back, however fleetingly.

Christmas wish? Stan Lee to move in next door!

Top ten? Warriors Three, Hela, Karnilla, Heimdall, Captain/ USAgent, Gamora, Pip the Troll.
Special: Titanium Man or Grizzly.
Twin pack: Swordsman and Mantis.

As the above makes clear, I am re-reading Simonson's Thors! (Where are you up to Bob?)

P.S. Today's the 30th anniversary of the shooting on John Lennon. Gone but Not Forgotten.

Is the varied nature of the results a pro or a con?

Pro
There are a lot of characters on people's want lists that could keep the collection going for a very long time.

Con
Not everyone is in agreement with characters. Would this reflect in sales? To top the list a character needs only a handful of votes because of how varied the list is, which means that ultimately they are not hugely popular, but just top of very varied list. Are we getting to merely fanservice, where eventually every collector will just get the one character they want that no one else has mentioned, and if so, will those character sales be as well received as those previously.

Out of the 95 characters mentioned, and the people who voted, it would be interesting to see who are subscribers / collectors of every figurine, and who are more casual buyers, and asking those casual buyers how many of the 95 they would honestly buy (maybe stating how many they have bought already) and asking the subscribers and collectors if any on that list would make them draw the line and lead to them cancelling their subscription.

Just something to think and ponder.

Well, I live in Canada, so I can't be a subscriber (I would if I could)
I started collecting a year and a half ago and im at 110 figurines out of the 135 out here (up till son of satan). Im still trying to get the 25 im missing! (I will get there one day, I want them all) Its just that its difficult here in Canada!

As for specials, I am missing Colossus, Thanos and Rhino! I bought all of the others except rooftop spidey and movie iron man that I dont want.

But I really dont think its fair if non-subscriber's want list isnt as important as subscribers. I want all of the figs and will buy all the new ones, but I can't subscribe since I live in Canada. I still consider myself a fully commited CMFC collector.

Im still missing Doc Octopus, Thing, Blade, Thor, Elektra, Human torch, Captain Britain, Angel, She-Hulk, Mystique, Invisible woman, Nightcrawler, Medusa, Captain Marvel, Nick Fury, Lizard, Polaris, Nova, Deadpool, Luke Cage, Dormammu, Carnage, Havok, Moonknight and Nighthawk!

Geek Fact Corner--
Did you know that 31 of the Marvel Figurines so far have capes?
That's quite a lot.....yeah I'm bored.

Robert said...

To answer your question, Leigh, I am a non-subscriber who has bought the over-whelming majority of figures. The only figures I tend not to buy are modern X-characters who I don't know and the odd incarnation that is all wrong (Drax springs to mind). As for the lists, I may have named only ten figs, but I struggled to keep the list down to such a small number. Frankly, there were loads in other lists I would buy, some like Swordsman I am really keen to see and they only just missed out appearing in my list. I would imagine that's true for most people who posted a list.

Is it too early to be discussing thew KAPOW comic con? Will EM be there?

I will and I will be wearing my homemade Crispin Colossus Avatar Tshirt. If you see me please feel free to say hello or try to trip me up as I walk past

Robert said...

Even if Eaglemoss don't go, we should! We could have our own booth! Ted can take his mosaics, Leigh can take his art, Deadpool can take his modifications and I can, um, make the sandwiches...

LAWay said...

Wasn't implying that non subscribers votes weren't as important here, I understand people cant subscribe and yet buy every issue.

I was just asking everyone to state who they would buy out of the list, and also state whether they are a subscriber, a avid collector, or a casual collector.

Would be intering to know if some people wouldnt buy any of those listed if they were casual buyers, or if there was even just 1 figurine in the list that would make a subscriber think 'Nah, I've had enough now.'

First I heard of KAPOW. I'll keep my eyes peeled. I will probably go to the cardiff con as its just down the road. I recently went to the london expo which was fantastic, so would love to do more of these things, and seeing EM there would be fantastic.

Hi LAWay
I am a non-subscriber who buys every single figure that comes out. I would buy all of the 95 characters that have been mentioned. As you probably know by now, I am keen to cover all MU areas and I want to see more of the so-called minor characters, such as Makkari or Yondu for example. In any case, I buy absolutely all characters.

BobDiamond said...

LAWay said...

Thats what I wanted to know, thanks KE.

I would keep my subscription, because while there may be some characters I am not interested in, there are some real gems in there that I would be happy to wait on while getting the others.

Update tomorrow?

BobDiamond said...

LA,
I subscribe and therefore get all the figs. Of course there are certain ones that I would not bother with if I had the choice, but I've never had a figure that I've hated.
Moreover, I believe that the list of 95 is just as varied and interesting as what we've had so far- and if they were to be made, I would no doubt buy them all. Again, only a few that I don't care too much for- but most are very worthy characters.

BD

Gremlin said...

I subscribe and even though I don't particularly want all the character (Fantastic 4, SpiderMan, Inhumans) I will keep subscribing because I know it helps the longevity of the collection. If I buy the characters I don't want then it means there a better chance of more extension and characters I do want (Meggan, Darkstar, Gamora...)

pirate adam said...

i dont subscribe and i dont even get all the figs anymore, i would however buy the majority of the figs mentioned, the only ones i'm not interested in are X-Men or X-related characters (with the odd exception)

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

If i paid good money for Blink 182,Then i'm pretty sure i would be happy to pay for the vast majority of the 95. "Subbies do it underwater" if i could drive..and was a dick i would get that bumper sticker.

Robert said...

Was in FP today and bought Scarlet Spider. I always quite liked his look and it's a nice figure. One minor quibble: unles my memory has gone again, the blue top was not a snug fitting t-shirt, it was a hooded top with the sleeves removed. The blue section always seemed baggier and looser in the comics.

Minor quibble number 2: On the back of the magazine is a shot of Beta Ray Bill. Great to see Bill make an appearance. However, his armour seems less bulky than it should be. I'm re-reading the original Bill appearances in Thor right now, and the Bill figure is definitely less imposing. Tomorrow I'll pull out other Bill appearances and see if other artists toned down Bill's armour. I've also got a Bill toy figure I'll have a look at. Anyone else think Bill looks a bit toned-down?
