Tigra and the Reaper

Just a quick update this week as we're busy making sure we don't forget to finish magazines before Christmas. But I do have two sneak peaks to make up for it.

First up is Tigra. As you can see we went for her second incarnation as Tigra. Although very similar to her first appearance as the werecat, this 'costume' has her with a tail.

Our second preview is also Avengers based and is the Grim Reaper.

And just before I go, I want to say thanks to all who have entered the comp already, the deadline for entries is midnight on 23rd December, I'll make the draw and announce the winner on here on Christmas Eve.

So far lots of people have entered and I can't wait to see what character we end up with.

Have a good weekend everyone.

ugh..Tigra's face is a little weird but I loved the Reaper.

Thanks for posting an image of Tigra. I've been itching to see her for a while and she looks great. She has such a distinctive look that she'll be quite noticeable amongst the other Avengers.

And an Avengers villain? "Ah, Mr. Ambassador, you are spoiling us!" A lovely sculpt of another important character.

Thanks, Rich.

Both sculpts look cool although I have to say Grim Reaper is my fave.

Can't wait till next week when the result is announced. I really hope we get slightly less popular character like Sister Grim, Warlock or Shanna the She-devil.

Gotta love Tigra!!

Grim Reaper is also very well done and both will be fine additions to the collection.

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

look i know this has nothing to do with this collection but the missus asked me a question that has me stumped in her own words" are there any female icepop characters?"
To translate are there any females with cold/ ice based powers?

Other than Storm (who can control weather and hence, snow) and Snowbird (who can turn into any animal in the Arctic circle) , the only other one that I can find is Whiteout who comes from Antarctica, but her powers appear to be more light based than weather based.

many thanks Hawkeye . I shall pass off your knowledge as my own. lol

Just put the cheque in the post to the Avengers Mansion, my friend! Payable to C Barton esq :)

Great! Not 1 but rather 2 Avengers related figurines in one update. I liked both of them but Tigra didn't thrill me as much as I expected (sorry Jacadoo). The Grim Reaper on the other hand looks great.

I'll be counting the days till I'm finally picked as the winner of this comp. and my pick is revealed!(Positive thinking all the way)!

Both figs looks pretty good to me.

Am really looking forward to the 24th to find out what cahracte got picked. PRobs the most interesting of the whole extension as it really could just about be anyone in the entire MU!

Ryan said...

WOW, The Grim Reaper sculpt is fantastic!! I'm ultra excited for that one!

i absolutely love both updates...even though i m not getting grim reaper cos i m not much of a Grim Reaper fan (sorry folks...especially jackadoo) Gettin Tigra for the completion of the West Coast Avengers original team!cant wait for a Quasar preview but I really wish they could just complete the small teams before getting new ones out of the blue

jimbob said...

Grim looks brilliant!Cant wait to get him.He is one of those i dont know about but just looks good enough to buy.

I like Tigra, she was always going to make a good fig.
Not sure about the mouth tho?Same as Hellstorm the open mouth thing feels a bit unnecessery.

winoboggie said...

Love Grim Reaper - he is perfect..Like Tigra, but something is off and I am not sure what it is..And for Ted Sallis, in the DC universe there is Killer Frost who is a villain and Ice who was in the Justice League

I know that we have seen a lot of previews recently, and that the next we hear from Rich will be about the competition winner, but I was wondering if we have seen a preview of the Crimson Dynamo yet? Do we even know the version that will be made...?

(Sorry if we have already been tol and I've forgotten.)

Anonymous said...

Robert, by coincidence i was also thinking about it...i wish theyd make the anton vanko one (of the 2003 epic series) not the original one...that kinda looks surreal and cartoony. i remember having a pseudo-transformers coloring book when i was a kid that had all these horribly-designed versions of the transformers in it...all with extremely geometrical and rigid in shape and that's what the so-called "classic" dynamo reminds me of. However I don t suppose I ll be satisfied cos the Anton Vanko 2003 one requires a special issue due to its size i guess...a more slender version would be much like the female version/ultimate version (FF one not the ultimates)

Robert said...

Crowrider, I know where you are coming from. I seem to remember the original Crimson Dynamo armour as being very bulky and non-menacing, with Michelin Man-like legs. (I think Iron Man was still in his original, clunky armour, too.)

The first armour I saw the Crimson Dynamo in, though, would have been from the early '70s, probably the story where Janice Cord is killed by the Titanium Man. I guess that would be Mark II, or perhaps Mark III. That version was quite distinctive and would be a standard-sized figure. I'd be keen on that model of armour, if given a choice.

Robert said...

Just checked a few reference sites. The armour I'm thinking of was worn by Alex Nevsky, the third man to be called the Crimson Dynamo but only the second version of the armour. Have to admit I looked at the later models and didn't like most of them!

Question: In looking at images of the Dynamo I came across some images of him fighting Captain America and trying to crush his shield. Any ideas where that comes from...?

Anonymous said...

I think I prefer either this version, worn by Valentin Shatalov: http://marvel.wikia.com/Crimson_Dynamo or the 2003 veriosn worn by Anton Vanko http://www.comicvine.com/crimson-dynamo/29-7234/earth-616-crimson-dynamo/108-4230/85855-crimson-dynamo/105-95538/ . but what i think we'll be served is this one, which, as i described, looks too boxy: http://www.comicvine.com/crimson-dynamo/29-7234/earth-616-crimson-dynamo/108-4230/cd4/105-494323/?offset=23 and yet it's his classic look so i think I d be a minority not liking it. And yet look how awful his bust turned out: http://www.bizrate.com/action-figures/crimson-dynamo-mini-bust--pid1120653143/
As for the comic in which he is bashing away at cap's shield I think its Captain America vol. 3 no. 43.

I once brought up the topic of which Crimson Dynamo Armour would be picked for this collection but no answer was ever given, nor has any sneak peek ever been shown of this character. My personal preferance would be either the 2nd model worn by Alex Nevsky or the 5th version worn by Valentin Shatalov.

Other characters whom's apperance has not been specified are Radioactive Man,Moon Dragon,Quasar,Firestar and I'm not sure if Drax The Destoyer?!

Rich have you ever considered adding the option of editing one's comment so we do not have to delete it completly in order to correct typo errors?

Robert said...

Thanks, Crowrider, for answering my question. I'll be checking that issue of Cap out later tonight. I'll also have a close look at your links. (I seem to remember the bust you mentioned: wasn't the choice of helmet the problem?)

I think a few people have asked about the Crimson Dynamo before, Thor8. Maybe Rich is keeping us guessing as there are so many possible versions of this character? (Only joking, Rich. We appreciate all the sneak peaks we've been getting recently.)

As for the other characters, I think it was CBRBeast that informed us that the modern Drax would be made. I would have felt confident that Quasar and Moondragon would be in their classic costumes, but after the decision with Drax, I'm not so sure now...

Robert said...

Crowrider, just had a look at the sites you mentioned. The Dynamo is one of those characters it's easy to get confused by, so I really had to go back and look.

Anywho, I'm still favouring the Alex Nevsky model as most of the others don't immediately strike me as Dynamo armours. For one, I remember the Dynamo as being ordinary-sized. Also, I don't mean to be pedantic but a few are not even, ahem, crimson!

The 8th Dynamo, Gennady Gavrilov, looked quite powerful, even fearsome. However, even forgetting my wish of him being normal human proportions, he surely cannot be a Crimson Dynamo when he ain't even crimson. The 6th version, Valentin Shatalov, was at least partially red but seemed quite similar to a variant Iron Man armour. If my memory is right, the Dynamo was created as a Russian equivalent to Shellhead - like the Red Guardian was their Captain America - but it was too close to Iron Man armour for my taste. Also, it was very streamlined; I liked the Nevsky version because it had a harder edge than Iron Man's smooth lines, and consequently looked meaner and more menacing.

The 4th version, Yuri Petrovich, I remember fondly from the first Armor Wars. This would be my second choice, although the helmet has floppy, dog-like "ears" that look somewhat odd. (As can be seen in the bust you mentioned and that I remembered yesterday.)

Wonder which version Rich plumped for...?

Anonymous said...

Thanks Thor8 & Robert! If they make the doggyface dynamo (a.k.a. Petrovich) or the other rocketheads rather than the Gavrilov or Shatalov ones I'd hope at least they d entertain our wants by at least makin him metallic and perhaps (crossed fingers) a less vulgar shade of crimson. Just for the realism in accordance to War Machine and Shellhead figurines. As for RadioactiveMan I d rather have his modern looks (including his Anti-Radioactivity suit) than his diaper-look. Moondragon is ok in classic look though i hate her look in the Guardians of the Galaxy Uniform :(

Robert said...

You can't see me, Crowrider, but I'm nodding my head at your post.

The bust of the Crimson Dynamo was, as you said, rather garish and much too bright a red. Crimson is a deep, dark red, which would of course be more appropriate for a super-villain.

The original Radioactive Man, with ill-fitting "nappy", isn't great. I first saw him as a member of the Titanic Three and he was wearing a variation on the nappy, or kilt, but with 'suspenders'. Even though I'm making it sound bad, I thought it looked okay. I probably prefer the vest-and-kilt one-piece from later. I would disagree with you on one point: the radioactive suit look is a very lazy design and, in my opinion, even the "nappy" look is far superior. And while we're on the subject of Chen Lu, is there any chance of Rich and the team employing Thor8's idea from a while back of using flourescent paint?

Moondragon just has to be classic. I have to admit that her green costume, like Storm's original look, is borderline indecent. (Both costumes also remind me of some of the quirky designs you saw in 1960s fashion. You know, dresses with circular sections cut-out at the waist and stomach, etc.) Funny, really, when you remember that both creations are from the mid-1970s...

Best of luck to all you boys n girls who entered the comp.
I nominated Bloodstone surprise,surprise eh?
I quite liked the mark 1 Crimson Dynamo , Mainly because he looked like the unnatural offspring of robby the robot and Gort

mighty_marvel said...

would have liked bloodstone in a double with elsa. if you win ted maybe you could push that idea onto rich. elsa has under 30 appearances so a double with her father is likely to be the only way we could get her

I went with Warlock from the New Mutants in the end. I decided to go with a character I personally want to see. I know there are a lot of XMen characters this extension anyway but for me its what I collect for. I would really kick myself if I didn't go for him and this ended up being the last extension.

I hope whoever wins goes for a character that wouldn't otherwise get in before #200, such as Bloodstone, Sister Grimm or Unicorn.

Good luck everyone!!!!!

happy holidays guys and girls , sorry been away for a while as my pc got a phishing scam virus and i couldn't use it at all.
all fixed now though folks , yipee.

two mighty fine looking figurines there rich , well done again !!

jimbob said...

Warlock is a good choice Gremlin!

I hope EM pick someone that will fill some of the teams.A couple that could do with a bit of bulking up.

I would be happy with any of the cosmics.

Robert said...

Observation: A few people have declared their choice of figurine for the competition.

Statement: My first choice was classic Iron Man. However, if Rich disallows variants, my second choice is an old Thor character called the Recorder.

Conclusion: I hope I won.

mighty_marvel said...

my choice was JJJ. criminally overlooked for ages, he's not a simple civilian he's a fully fledged spiderman villain that should have been included way before now. especially now that characters with 100-200 appearances are now either appearing in or being seriously considered for the collection, not having a character with 1200 appearances is verging on ridiculous. yes, he won't be in a spandex suit but neither are prof x or madrox and they were both unmissable sculpts. anyways, rant over, hope i win :)

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Nice choice Robert, This is a one time chance to get a favourite character in this collection who would otherwise have stood little chance of makingt the next extension or two.
I wouldn't moan if the winner was one of the close runners up from the recent poll but i would certainly view it as a missed opportunity

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

You tell em Mighty Marvel .They could always stick Jonah's face on a spiderslayer as a compromise,
I'm not ahuge fan of civvies but there are always exceptions and JJJ is certainly that!

Anonymous said...

here here !!

well said you two.
i was thinking of choosing jjj myself
but i chose another character instead

you know i have been on your side for a long time now when it comes to jjj

in my book he's one of the main characters in the spiderman group and well deserves a spot in this collection.

like i said before his pose would have to be cigar in mouth , spidey's mask in one hand and a rolled up newspaper in the other.

dunno if i should tell you who i picked for this competition ?

you lot guessing who i picked is a competition in itself lol

p.s :

i like the valentin shatalov version of the crimson dynamo
but the anton vanko - whiplash version is also pretty cool !!

I went for Wiccan in the end, figured it would be a cool sculpt, start off the Young Avengers, and I guessed they wouldn't get a representative anytime soon.

Wiccan is a good one!

More Asgardians!

Thunderstrike would be a nice suprise.
