Competition Time

It’s time for the competition to choose the last character for this extension. I wanted this to be a competition that rewards those that have collected our magazine but wanted it to be a little challenging.

So here’s how it works.

Below are two images that have appeared in our magazine at some point. Your job is to track them down and e-mail me the issue number and page number that they appeared on in our collection.

IMAGE A

IMAGE B

Image A is a zoom-in, while Image B is a whole panel. The images chosen are from the first 100 issues. So only look in #1-100.

So once you’ve worked out where they come from drop me an e-mail at eaglemosscomp@gmail.com

You should put the answer in the subject line as such: issue/page, issue/page.
So if you think they come from Issue 2 page 3 and Issue 76 page 4 please put 2/3, 76/4 as the subject.

Please put your name and address in the e-mail. (These will not be passed on to anyone at all and will be deleted at the end of the comp). As well as your chosen character.

The comp will close on 23rd December 2009 and I will choose a winner at random from correct answers.

I’ll then contact the winner to let them know and announce the figure on the blog.

Apart from the above the rules for the competition are:
One entry per e-mail address only.
One entry per household only.

(Duplications will be deleted and each address needs to genuine, as the winner will receive a model of his/her chosen character, which may need to be signed for at the address provided.)
Characters chosen must be regular-sized figures (general rule is under 6’ 8”) with enough background/appearances to fill a magazine.

Well let the hunt begin and good luck.

"I wanted this to be a competition that anyone who collects the magazine should be able to enter"

Not everyone collects, every single magazine, so this competition which is dependent on someone having both magazines the images are from, dosent make it accessible to all collectors.

Blog Master Dan said...

Ok I guess that comment is fair but I didn't want this to be a simple TV-style quiz in which everyone knows the answer.

What I guess I meant to say is I wanted this to be a competition that anyone who has collected most of our issues should be able to enter. I guess the more magazines you've collected the better your chance is of finding/knowing the images.

Blog Master Dan said...

I've now updated the intro to correct this.

Answer send ! Thanks to give us ( again...) the oportunity to choose one of the next characters

Comp sounds good and fair..i guess guys wo collect every issue stand more of a chance and thats how it should be..a reward in a way for getting them all..nice work

jarvis69 said...

By the way , here in France we just get the issue nb 100 ...so it's fair for us too ! lol

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

i love this collection and Rich mate i love you too!. in a purely platonic starstruck kinda way.
But i would rather check 100 howler monkeys for piles than search through all 100 + mags ,
Good luck to all

Thor8 said...

WOW! I was hoping this competition wouldn't be too complicated, but I never thought it would be so easy either! I don't even have to look in my collection to know what issues they are ,I just have to verify the page numbers. The hard part is going to be competing with all the other collectors who are going to get the correct answers also, but what the heck, that's part of the fun.

Jacadoo said...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA all my mags are in storage for shipping..........

Cant enter the competition and still getting the FS busy bee type lady!!!!!

Come on there's got to be an easier way of getting Stingray - I must remember to keep taking the tablets and sitting in a darkened room.

Good fair comp - to be fair I would rather somebody who collects all the editions wins - they are the real supporters ensuring the collection continues.

By the way did I mention Stingray?

i'm useless but thanks to the help of my mum and my nephew we finally found the pictures and i have now entered the competition , job done !!

fingers crossed , although there were other characters i'd have liked to have chosen , i had to go with one with lots of appearances and also art work to produce the magazine too.
i think it was a good choice so hopefully , here's wishing !!

I could have dealt with a "WHY YOUR CHARACTER SHOULD WIN IN NO MORE THAN 50 WORDS TYPE COMP"
But this is as lame as a three legged centipede

Matthew Langan said...

Wow this comp is a piece of cake! I knew as soon as i saw the images what issue they could be in and then just whittled them down from out of four mags :D t'was fun!

Skott said...

Well, I think these are from mags that either A) I hadn't much interest in getting or B) have yet to be released here in the States. I always hold out hope that some day I will be able to get figures direct from you guys. Waiting for Diamond to offer what I want/need is insane and the other option is eBay? No thanks, I'll end up paying twice what I would if I got them direct. Any chance of opening a way for those of us in the States who LOVE these figures? I've been needing to replace Thing, Dr. Strange and Galactus for some time now but haven't been able to.

Holy Wolf said...

I think this is a great idea for a comp and keeps it simple yet fair to those who collect the magazines.

I submitted my entry last night so we'll just have to wait and see.

The hardest part was trying to decide which character to pick. I decided not to go for one of the 8 in my sig on the forum and instead go for bit more of a curveball character. I had a list of about 5 or 6 such characters and in the end went for a pretty good one who'd also be able to start off a new team.

Good luck to all those who enter and many thanks to Rich!

The thing about the mini essays is that someone has to read them. And there could easily be 500-1000 entrants.

Even at 50 words an answer thats 25-50,000 words need reading. thats a lot. And not only reading but then ordering and deciding which is best. And in the end how could bias not come into judging with siding/agreeing with an answer about a character they like.

Besides would you really want Rich to waste an entire couple of days reading through our answers when he could be doing muchmore valuable wok with the CMFC?

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

valuable wok indeed
I had borrowed my sons big colouring in crayons and designed my own super hero Captain Rainbow the eco warrior, he along wih his rather annoying generic sidekick battled giant pollutazoid robots and recycled them into tins for infant milk formula. i had the competition in the bag i tells ya ! But Rich gives me....homework??
:0 :)

I can relate to how Ted feels about this competition. More than competing it's more like a raffle. The winner will depend more on being luky rather than on ability, knowledge,or skills. I'm also aware of the time consumming factor( Holy Wolf mentioned) that a more complicated contest would take,so I can see Rich side of having pick this type of competition. I can just hope and pray that I'm the lucky winner!

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

I totaly agree that Rich has more important things do do than read lame create a hero ideas , I was using those as analogys for equally lame competition ideas.
anything other than " where's wally" . I had a mini pop quiz type thing in mind .Anyone who has played the marvel ultimate alliance game will know the kind of thing i mean.
I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT MY TONGUE HAS BEEN FIRMLY IN MY CHEEK OVER THE LAST FEW POSTS, AND BESIDES I HAVE GREAT FAITH IN THOR 8, ROBERT , SLAPSTICK ET ALL TO CHOOSE A WORTHY FIGURE , DO IT FOR ASGARD!!!

Y'know Robert i would love slapstick to win , just because of the agonies he must have gone through to whittle his lists down to a solitary fig. And i,m sure it will be charmingly " leftfield"

Holy Wolf said...

I do see you point Ted, and I did like your artistry on your created characters, I thought the idea was very good!

Will be interesting to see who picked what, I had a hard enough time once I decided to pick a curveball character. In the end I went for someone relatively new who could start off a new team altogether.

Holy Wolf said...

Also Rich, any news on whether we can see Snow(bird) for Christmas? I notice she's been pushed down the release order by 6 places *sniff* :'(

I picked a character that I believe is the least probable on my most wanted list of making the next extension or two. Characters I want like Stingray,Odin,Photon, or Arachne have a fairly good chance of being picked since they've been mentioned often enough, but The one I have reserved probably appeals to older fans and Avenger followers like myself!

he was one of the main side kicks of iron man in the cartoon series !!

i think the competition rules are fantastic, however i have no idea where the pics are from and whats more i am far to idle to go looking through 100 mags, so good luck to everybody who does enter and please NO DUCKS....

Thor8, old buddy old pal, i am almost certain who you have picked, and while not a fave of mine, its not a bad choice.

Or did i just dream the whole thing?
I have dropped a few hints to the good lady about these Marvel essentials for my xmas reading

My local antique dealer has a perfect display cabinet in stock i reckon it could probably display around 120 figs perfect..... Then i realised i am probably going to need three of them by the time this collection is over,
Then i noticed the wife giving me that look!
So i will only be able to display my favourite 120 figs no matter how long this collection runs.
It's all about compromise :)

Yeah Robert 20 times 6 is indeed 120 not 23,433,561.
I think Slapstick is a wee bit guilty of perhaps taking things far too literaly , And i share your bewilderment at how someone can be such a vocal fan of comic characters based purely on their cartoon incarnations?
I almost coughed up my pelvis as i was laughing so hard at his last post.
And calling people who enjoy reading comics nerds is pretty much the lamest put down .
I will drop seveal huge hints to ensure i get that Kane/ Andru essentials

well i don't really care what you guys think of me , you just seem to like to have a pop at me on here.
i can't afford to buy comics even if i wanted to , and can just about afford to buy this collection.
i have asked for some hardbacks for christmas -
70 years of marvel + a-z of marvel characters etc , i am trying to learn more !!
i loved the cartoons that were out in the 80's as i enjoyed seeing the different characters , i have iron man , x men series 1-5 , hulk 1-2 spiderman etc etc.
i only own 2 comics , one is a hulk comic and the other is an avengers one.
i apologise if i offended anyone when i referred to you as nerds , i was merely trying to say that not all of us buy comics !!
and just because i don't know as much as some of you doesn't make me an idiot so there's no need to keep putting me down.
i am on here because i want to have a say like the rest of you on here and also like to share my ideas.
anyway i'm not the first person to have a row on here.
peace ?

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Slapstick old pal i would never dream of having a pop at you.
Sometimes you can take the most gentle of humour to heart , i am not in the business of trying to patronise or put down fellow bloggers and i certainly don't want to fallout with fellow fans on this forum over the festive festivities (Stan Lee would be proud )
In fact if you use the SHFF send me your address via a personal message to AARKON64 i have a pile of doubles in my collection and would be honoured to kickstart your collection.
Please don't take this as patronising in any way. just one fellow blogger helping out another
peace

Glen Michaels cartoon cavalcade sounds like a real hoot Robert but i was raised in the rugged wilds of bonny Galloway outside of the stv network, I can remember with total clarity the moment i discovered the world of Marvel.
It was the very early 70's an old neighbour of mine used to have her grandson to stay during easter and summer breaks i can recall us playing in the garden and mum had bought us 2 pairs of eye masks Lone Ranger style , I announced i was going to be Batman (as Adam West was camping it up on tv at the time) this was the only superhero i knew. Then my little pal Euan said he was going to be spiderman?
I remember giving him a quizzical look not quite beleiving such a daft sounding character could really exist, so to prove it he ran to his Grans house and brought me back a comic i think it was called the mighty world of marvel and it contained those classic Ditko spidey reprints, And that was me hooked. sniff! i've gone all misty eyed

It was down purely to this collection that i discovered the extremely talented Mark Millar.I hadn't picked up a comic in years until reading about the Ultimate universe in an early issue, The last time i saw Mr Millar on tv he was in the company of celebrity stalker Jonathon Ross.
I will look out for Glen Michaels "stan lee" cameo

robert and ted sallis :

i thank you both so much for your help and advice.
i sometimes take things the wrong way , but it's because i have had a bad few years and been through hell !!
i was held up by a man armed with a shot gun and lost my job and flat shortly after. this left me suffering from depression , paranoia , anxiety attacks and loss of confidence.
i was also left with debt , so hence the fact i can't afford to buy comics.
anyway , now you know a little about me.
peace.

Slapstick - I'm sorry to hear about your probs. Hope 2010 is a new start for you. I can appreciate that a lack of funds means that you can't get comics but have you thought about joining your local library? Mine has a wide selection of graphic novels to explore - I've recently borrowed Silver Surfer:Requiem, Planet Hulk, Dr. Strange versus Dracula, several of the Civil War books and, if I'm allowed, Batman:Hush which is excellent. And it's all FREE!!!!

Happy hunting my friend and may your worries be few.

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Hey there Slapstick . Let me echo the sentiments of Hawkeye and Robert. I hope you are in contact with all the support agencies that are out there to help.
What a truly frightening experience for you to have gone through.I sincerely hope that 2010 will see you well on the road to recovery.
The offer still stands by the way

thank you all very much , i would only be interested in hardbacks which contain the best bits from marvel story lines etc. i see some on ebay but do any of you know what sort of hardbacks i should be looking to purchase ?
what's the best one's out there ?

Hawkeye said...

Slapstick - as Robert said in an earlier post, the Marvel Masterworks series are great and in colour. I was able to pick up a Fantastic Four one containing the Dr Doom / Silver Surfer storyline that was used for the plot of the second FF movie in a local charity shop for 50p, but that was a real one-off. it's an excellent read as it has appearances from the Inhumans, Black Panther and a battle between the original Human Torch and Johnny Storm. Must dig that out again.....

As I said that was a rare find but bargains are out there if you perservere.

I have been enjoying one of my all time fav mini series Thor vikings , It is the sickest funniest riot of a story. Dr Strange is superbly written by Garth Ennis. I May have to enter the comp after all just to nominate one of the greatest Thor villains of all time Lord Harold Jaekelsson ( try saying that after a few Grunhaller ).
This guy guy makes Ulik, Mangog and the Destroyer seem as scary as the Teletubbies .
Just wish he had more appearances

Not as much as i like to , just the last few issues of his run. The fight scene between Frank and Barracuda with the pliers still makes my eyes water whenever i think of it.
That's another gap in my collection i am hoping to fill in the new year, Hopefully there will be handy tpb's

Robert said...

Ennis wrote the Punisher for something like eight years.

Hope you're flush...

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

The only time i am flush these days is if i have to run for the bus!
Plus i recently splurged a chunk of my comic allocated cash on a Rudy d Nebres Bloodstone commission. I was just looking for some comics that he illustrated when this lovely piece of art appeared in the search results . I then accidently bid on it.....6 times. It just arrived from sunny New Jersey last week.
Well worth a few weeks of comic abstinence

Robert said...

Hadn't heard of the guy but a quick google search sorted that out. Not hard to see why you like the guy so much...

Anyway, back on Planet CMFC, how about a Tigra sneak-peak this week, Rich?

Jacadoo said...

Slapstick in the new year I will have finished moving (again) and would be happy to kick start your hardback collection (I over did it a bit, in the last few years).

All free to a good home - we can sort details out as soon as we unpack - aim for around February as we are moving to another country and all our items are in storage prior to shipping.

Keep your chin up buddy and a better year next one round!!

Rich can you give me some pointers on how to enter your competition site. I have been unable to do so although I've tried both here at work and at home and so far no go!

There is no "competition site" as such. Look at the two images on the main Blog page, identify which magazines and pages they are from and then send your answer via e-mail direct to Rich. don't forget to include your postal address and figurine choice. HTH

As that molestor of the english language Christopher Lambert once tryed to say " There can be only one"
So without further ado i have picked Mickey Rourke/ Whiplash as my comp choice
I love the guy plus he fits the criteria under 6ft 8"
and he would look so cool with his chest plate and plasma? whips painted in some kinda gamma iradiated glow in the dark paint.
The guys n gals over at the shff still talk with great affection about the Iron Man movie fig so i am sure they will be beside themselves with excitement.
And Rich if my name comes out of the hat , I don't want it getting lost down the back of the filing cabinets!! I'll be watching in my astral form
