THE COVER:
With a bit of research I found this image (on the web) that I thought might make a nice cover.
It worked really well, there was space over his webbing cape for the masthead and a nice bit of room under his hand for his logo)! so I ordered the actual real comic (from the web), scanned it, cloned out the word balloons etc and removed all the colour (leaving just the black line art).
I can do basic colouring, but this baby needed a real pro job to bring it to life - Chris Blythe did the honours...
Amazing job Chris. 'nuff said.
THE FIGURINE:
The last one in the collection from Sculptor Dene Mason.
I was always impressed with Dene's sculpts, as he always wanted to make each one different and individual, I think he achieved it with this fella, quite difficult to give action and motion to a character like Spider-Man standing still (when we usually see him clinging to a wall of swinging through the sky). I think it's a beautiful sculpt and really shows off the characters excellent costume. I'm in the process of drawing up a list of what sculptors did what figurine for a later blog update, so you can see who did who!

Oh wow! I thought we had seen the front cover for Spidey 2099 already when you showed us the first couple of images before but seeing the new cover just made my jaw drop! It's absolutely beautiful! Great job on that Chris Blythe! And, as always, thank you Dan for sharing the lovely update with us!

The new Spidey 99 cover has him darker like you had the figure earlier before Marvel had you make him bluer which is more like the color of the original cover you used & darkened. The right foot & leg look wrong to me.
The figure looks good but with Spidey, Scarlet Spidey, Spider-Woman, Arachne, Black costume Spidey & Venom the collection had too many Spideys already & I wish had done a few more Spidey villains instead like Molten Man, Tombstone, Jackal, Jack O'Lantern etc.
Nice update, Dan. The cover looks awesome. Hats off to the colourist.
And I'm so happy to see these great pics of the figurine from various angles. I must admit, when you showed us Spider-Man 2099 for the first time months ago, I wasn't 100% won over by the figurine. But with these new pics, my opinion has changed. I think it's a really great figurine, very slick and futuristic. And the pose looks less balletic, and much more powerful from certain angles. It's really well produced. Such a shame that the CMFC is ending soon and we'll never see this level of production applied to the many other great Marvel characters left to cover.
Well seems like I'm in the minority on this one. I like the cover and the color change done on it,but I think Marvel should have let you go with the darker colors on the figurine as well. The collors on the actual updated figurine look kinda bland to me.

Spidey 2099 isn't a character I know alot about to be honest but you've gotta love that cover. Supreme work Dan.
I do however agree with Thor8 that the darker paintjob on the figurine looked much better that the blue. Still a great peice though :)
Disney killed this collection in my opinion. No cigar for JJ Jameson , and now they change the colour of the spidey figurine , the darker colours were much better.
p.s : I still can't believe that this character was chosen over tombstone and jackal etc.

I agree, I liked the darker paint job, but I also saw why Marvel wanted the change, as they thought the figurine should be more like the comic colouring (always a problem when black is sometimes represented as blue especially in 80s/90s comics. (See Superman's hair for instance!).
I may fit one more update before Christmas. Then a couple more in the new year (hopefully, I'll get round to the competition before I'm sent to the archive room for old designers!
Thats amazing work on the cover! I do have a question, but not sure if you will be able to answer it or not. You said that you scanned, cloned out the word bubbles and removed the colour. Im going to assume that you use Photoshop for such editing, but i have to ask...how exactly did you remove all the colour???
I think the colour on the figurine looks great. I was never sold on the pose but it does look better in colour.
The recoloured artwork though for the front cover is a thing of beauty. Like Al, I have often wondered how you magic away colour and just leave the lines. I use photoshop quite a lot but don't know any easy way to do it. Please share your secret. ;)

I have checked EBay for the past couple months and haven't been able to find one to bid on. That's why I figured I would try my luck here.

I've been conversing with Emma Thackara of the licensing department, and sadly she has basically confirmed that the set is definitely going to end at 200 issues...HOWEVER...
...she also informed me that EM may pursue something similar to the CMFC again in the future. Ive also asked her to investigate the information I was given by Pamela Kele regarding her claim that EM is currently planning a survey to choose characters for 4 FINAL figures (specials, one would have to assume at this point). Here's hoping that there is some validity to those claims.
A final 4 specials/mega-specials/double-packs isn't as ideal as extending the whole collection, but I'll take it at this point. More characters are always welcome. I can pray that this will finally ge me Warlock of the New Mutants!

I'd be over the moon if we could get 4 more specials , my choices would be : lockjaw and maximus double pack , strong guy , atlas , and finally the warriors three triple pack to end the collection. If eaglemoss were not willing to produce a triple pack then my other choice instead would be wendigo.
I don't know what's happening with all these final 4 figurines that we keep hearing about. Personally I doubt we'll get any more but I would really love it if we really did get another 4 figurines! I would happily give 3 of those slots to the Warriors Three! They just HAVE to be in the collection before it truly ends! I'd be happy if we just had those three but if we were to have a fourth character (or in this case, special) I'd want Onslaught. Mainly because he's my personal most wanted special but also because in a survey years ago his name was mentioned as a future possible special and we never got him. Other specials I'd be happy with are Groot with Rocket Raccoon, Titanium Man, Madame Web, Lockjaw, Heimdall...

Don't really believe we'll be getting an additional 4 figurines (specials or regulars) either SV,but if we did I'd also love to see The Warriors Three added to this wonderful collection just like you and MT,but I would ask for them in the follwing manner;
1) Hogun and Fandral double pack
2) Volstagg special
3) Attuma Special
4) Maximus amd Lockjaw double pack
This way we get the supposed 4 extra specials,but we wind up with 'SIX' extra figurines. (Sneaky,I know. I inherited that from my daddy Odin).

Gee Victor,I may be wrong,but I kinda have a slight suspicion that you just might be an X-Men fan. Don't ask me why it's just a funny feeling or a random thought.
Y'know guys, I had a bit of an odd dream last night. There was a point where I looked at my figurines and there wasn't as many as what there should be, but the weird thing was there were figurines of characters from the movies, like the Willem Dafoe Green Goblin and Rhys Ifan's Lizard.
Then it made me wonder, what if they did make a figurine collection based off the characters from the Marvel movies? I'm kinda stuck with this thought, I think it'd be great then I'm also not so sure. I think of say, Alfred Molina's Doc Ock and think how much better he'll look than the Doc Ock from the CMFC, but then I think of characters they messed up like the skinny Venom from Spidey 3 and the 'Weapon X1' Deadpool from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Another plus would be we'd get characters that the CMFC didn't give us like the Warriors Three, Whiplash, Silver Samurai, Azazel, Heimdall etc...
What do you guys think? Should they make a collection like this and if so, would you buy it?

Oh don't get me wrong guys, I'm not saying EM should do a figurine collection based on the films. I wouldn't have bought any myself too. I just had the thought and wanted to see everyone else's opinions on the matter. It wouldn't be as successful as what the CMFC was.

I believe it will be a very uphill battle for anyone whom wishes to top this collection. The CMFC has it ALMOST all; 240 figurines,at a great price great quality and done in a scale that is space friendly yet great detail(in most anyway).
I said "almost has it all,because it could have easily added 40 or 60+ more figurines.

Just finished watching the animated feature Thor Tales of Asgard for the second time. It is a well written epic of Thor during his youth. Irecommend watching it.Even the mrs.who is not into comic book characters enjoyed it quite a bit.

Just been to the local supermarket and picked up the first edition of EM's Batmobile collection, the 1989 movie version for £2.99. Probably won't get many of them but the next one is the Adam West one for £5.99 which may tempt me to indulge, being of a certain age. The one after that is the Tumbler for the regular price of £9.99. Still plenty out there for the Geek Collector in all of us! Happy 2013 and here's looking forward to Iron Man 3 & Thor: The Dark World....

Borderlands 2 was my game of the year for sure. Best FPS on a console in a long time. Real depth to it and thats with me only playing 1 of the 4 character types available.
Finished True Vault Hunter about a week ago and feeling its left a big hole in my gaming.

London Super Con was a highlight of last year for me. So I confirm that I'll indeed be returning this February. As will my 17 year old, my 14 year old, and my 8 year old. All hugely looking forward to it!
So the last figurine is scheduled to come out mid April for you guys. That would be late May to early June for us here in The Carribean. How long wil this blog last?
Great line-up of artists at the London Super Con, wish I could afford to go. Some artists usually sell their own artist style sketchbooks which I love buying.
What is this event like? Didnt see many media type guests, is there any talks, previews of things etc?

The DC franchise seems to be going from strength to strength with chess sets and now the cars, I would guess the licencing for Marvel is far more restrictive and expensive - or we would all be celibrating 200 - 220 extension right now.

Has anyone read the final issues of the Amazing Spider-Man yet? My friend today lent me issues 695 - 700 and after reading them all tonight, I'm left speechless. The story truly was an amazing way to finish the Amazing series!
Without revealing too much for the people who haven't read it yet, it really made you feel all of Peter Parker's emotions that he had to go through and really made you want to see him succeed now more than ever! You know it's the final issues and you know in the world of Marvel, anything can happen! So the more I read, the more intense it was for me as you never know what's on the next page...
But this is one powerful Spidey story I won't ever forget. The Superior Spider-Man starts soon and boy, am I looking forward to that!!

I have yet to read those Spider-Man issues SV,as it's been about a year since I stopped collecting Amazing.I have all the issues it's just that I haven't taken the time to sit down and read them yet.
Speaking of Amazing Spider-Man; I am planning on selling my entire collection which consists of every amazing Spider-Man issue from Amazing Fantasy #15 up to Amazing Spider-Man #700 (plus annuals) except issues #7 & #10 which I lost. So if anyone is interested in purchasing them let me know.
To anyone who's getting Stingray, his figurine is beautiful! You won't be disappointed...unless you get a broken one or one with a bad paint job but hopefully you guys won't. I'm really happy with him!

Yeah, Stingray is a great figurine.
I picked it up today.
MY STINGRAY REVIEW:
The inside part of the cape is seamlessly fused with the contour of his body. This is a great detail
and a correct interpretation of the design - as Stingray's costume is partly an armour, not just a cape. This detail is not clearly visible in the pictures, but you will notice it when you have the figurine in hand and you'll see what I mean.
I'm still not convinced that the inside part of the cape should have been black as EM made it.
Comic book images of the character are clearly showing that the inside part of the 'cape' is red.
The only time it looks black is when it's immersed in shadow. But personally I don't think that
shadow should be represented with black paint, especially such large area of shadow. It would have been ok for the inside part to be red, imo, and then it would have looked
darker anyway, because of the way the cape is shaped and casts its own natural shadows.
Colors aside, the costume is rendered very well, especially as the grooves run across the back of the cape and also on the inside, and this looks really slick and cool. I like that EM made an effort to make Stingray look as cool as he deserved.
I have a problem I chucked all the boxes for the regular figurines and know I need to move house any ideas on the best way to pack them up please
Bubble-wrap. Lots of it! Then maybe placed carefully in shoe-boxes?

kdthechef: If you can get your hands on some spongelike foam it would work marvelously in protecting your figurines. You cut pieces of foam the same size of the interior of the boxes you plan to place the figurines in. Then cut out slots approximately the size of the figurine and then you carefully place them in.They will fit snuggly and won't shift around in the boxes. You can place a carton or thin sheet of foam over the foam with the figurines inside and then place a second section of foam on top of the first and repeat the proccess over again. The best foam to use is a gray colored one that is quite firm yet soft enough so as not to harm your collection.

I too have thrown away all the boxes for both my Marvel and DC collections. The thought of ever having to move house gives me sleepless nights. As it stands just removing and sorting my collection is something I have been putting off since November.

kdthechef to support Thor8's suggestion (foam inserts), from moving my collection from China to France to the Isle of man then home I found the best medium to use is the Warhammer foam inserts (as an example please see item number from ebay 330854835486).
I have tried bubble wrap and cutting chunks of foam to size but these trays of foam can be modified to suit - better still because they are a uniform size you can then package the collection into larger boxes so providing better protection.
I now keep every box!!!!!!!!

I priced all of my figurines up today by using ebay as a guide. Looking at what they are selling for individually , I am sitting pretty on just over £3,000 worth. I can't believe that someone sold a hawkeye figurine on there for £49. I'm seriously concidering cashing in by selling my collections. I could have a nice holiday !!
I was planning to wait a while before I cash in my figurines. Figure they might be worth more, especially for every figurine in the collection, including the Rooftop Spidey subscription gift! But that's my opinion. Could be right, could be wrong.
Have you also been collecting every figurine and specials as well then MT?

Should be worth more once the collection has ended (sad to say). I wonder how many of each figurine were produced? Do the numbers on the bottom actually mean anything or are they completely random? I really wanted to keep all the boxes but they just ended up taking up way too much space. Probably something I will regret one day.
Ooft! That was scary, I bid £55.00 for the Lobo fig, thankfully I was outbid ???? . Poppers and EBay are not a good combo. £55????......and I lost?????? Worlds aff it's heid
Jacadoo I took you're advice and went one step further a web site called giftsforgeeks to custom made metal boxes full of pick and pluck foam it's 65 pound for the box and I'm hoping I can get all the figurines in here's hoping thankyou everyone for the advice but just another question which maybe Dan can answer how much should we insure our full collections for
I have no plans on selling my collection.I'll leave that up to my kids after I'm over The Pearly Gates. I saved all the boxes although at first I didn't ID them like it occured to me later on. So eventually I'll have to take all the boxes that aren't identified and match them with the each figurine that doesn' have it's box ID so that i can identify them also.
Well were almost in the middle of the week and in the middle of the month,so will we getting an update soon?
I have bought every marvel figurine up to date plus all of the specials. The only figurines I didn't buy are - iron man movie special ( wasted slot ) , black spidey on rooftop ( another wasted slot ) nico minoru regular ( never heard of her and a pointless addition ) , I sold my spidey on rooftop gift ages ago and regret it now because he's doubled in value. I don't own a drax figurine but intend on buying a back issue. Other than those I pretty much own the lot , right up to date. Just check out my displays on my blog page. I keep all the boxes and when I unpack the figurines I write the name of the character on a small piece of paper and insert it behind the clear plastic wrapping to make it easier to put the figurines back in if I ever sold them or needed to move. I kept the brown boxes they were delivered in when I was a subscriber and use them to store the magazines in. I also had some cardboard removal storage boxes which I use to store the figurine boxes in , each categorised by marvel groups. Xmen , avengers , cosmics , spiderman , fantastic four , marvel knights , dc , blackest night. These boxes are neatly tucked away under my bed. I am still buying back issues of the dc collection. If you can keep hold of your collections they will increase in value. I'm undecided what to do with mine in regards to selling. I know one thing , you would get more for them if you sell them individually rather than in bulk.
p.s , the batman on batcycle special sold for £60 on ebay. Crazy stuff. Dan , any chance of an update ? When's the competition ? Hope all is okay at moss towers.

Personally I'm not interested in an assessment of the commercial value of my collection. The idea to sell it? No way! It's never crossed my mind, and never will.
In this world increasingly polluted by the logic of return of investment and financial gain, it's just refreshing to have something to hold dear for other, purer reasons.
I really treasure the CMFC as a thing of beauty, a dream come true for the Marvel kid in me. Truly priceless, as no amount of money could ever buy me the joy I derive from seeing this miniature replica of the Marvel Universe inside my house, a universe full of wonder, adventure and awe-inspiring ideas, which I always loved ever since I discovered it as an 8-year-old. I really love my CMFC!
I own every single character, absolutely all of them, regulars and specials, and I bought two of each figurine. As for the boxes, I've simply placed a piece of paper, with the name of the character on it, inside each box.
Well Blake it seems as though you and I are of the same mind. We even discovered Marvel at the same age. God willing I will keep my collection for as long as I live. I just wish the same would have gone on a bit longer.
