The perfect 10?

My tenth blog update! Hurrah! It's been a bumpy ride, but I think I've done ok.

Not much to celebrate though, as we haven’t had any new sculpt stages in this week! Sorry about that, Hopefully I’ll have something for ya next week.

All we got was the final coloured Hydro-Man cover....

Very nice indeed.

The guys on the forum kindly ran a poll for Vance Astro and I think the results speak for themselves...

Vance Astro/Major Victory: With or Without the shield ?
Without the shield 22% [ 25 ]
With the shield 78% [ 90 ]

So as we near the last 2 weeks of extension confirmations (4 left from EM and me, Plus the 4 from you guys!) I can confirm the horror character is...

WEREWOLF BY NIGHT
A well deserving character IMO, he’s in over 200 comics and has mixed it up with the super-types on many occasions.

I would prefer to present him in his original ‘small head’ version than some of the modern takes, I feel they just make him look like any other generic lycanthrope...

And now for the final female in the extension....

GAMORA
Another cosmic I know, but she’s pretty hot and really needs to be made! I’m on the fence with the costume on this one! I like the original look, but can see the love for the newer look – there’s only one way to find out FIGHT!.....

Will definitely have the competiton ironed out for next week – and the polls can start running aswell.

See you in the Funny papers* (*comments section) – Dan

Nah I ain't buying it, Dan said the wigs have a mystical subscriber number in mind.

I am one of that number.

I own your ass.

Now go and fetch my slippers.....

But on a more serious note, you did actually see my point on the villains thing.

Which is a first, this could be the start of something beautiful..

John said...

We broke 400 this week. :D

"so i get a plinth & a folder, not enough for me personally."

Having every figurine, plinths just aren't practical. But I wouldn't care to have them anyway, even if I only had 10 figures, or however many fit on it. The folder? I rarely even open the magazine. I'd prefer it just sold without the magazine and be cheaper.

"Dan has already stated that us UK subscribers hold the magic key to your continued reception of further extensions out there in the colonies"

Like Beast said, they also look at Diamond orders, which is how I get mine in the states. Where's MY incentive? ;) Having the collection is incentive enough for me. :D

"They are not accurate results because not everyone voting has the best interest in the subject in mind. They are merely voting because they have the option to and want to see the results."

There's a button that says, "See Results." You don't have to vote to see who's winning.

And this might not seem right, but even collectors who aren't fans of a character voting in a poll contribute GREATLY aesthetically. What this does is shows what would appeal to the majority, even if they don't read the given title.

Take the character Polar Bear Man (I just made him up to have a character no one knows.) If he's had 2 costumes and the majority agrees that one looks better than the other, casual buyers will be more likely to buy it. Simple.

Does this actually happen in real life? Yes! I originally planned on only being a casual collector. I bought Shocker and Yellowjacket, but then I saw Mandarin and thought it was a beautiful sculpt. I've never read Iron Man, and don't have a single issue with Mandarin in it. The sculpt sold me. Then I figured... I have Mandarin, I might as well get a character like Banshee that I like, right? And boom, I'm out 2 or 3 grand. :D Money well spent.

So while it irritates me when I see people say, "I voted for Gamora's classic costume, but I'm fine either way," it does show what the average consumer would prefer to put on their shelf.

I have a comment on villains, but I want to wait until AFTER Trapster gets confirmed.

Ken said...

You said it best Robert. Since I live in the US AND I started collecting really late (around #120) I've had to pay a premium to get ALL the back issues etc! I am proud to say I have the ENTIRE collection not because I love every figure but because I love the CMFC and the beautiful dedication EM has put into making every character accessible to all people! And I've probably spent AT LEAST $2000 American on these figures, about £1400 to all you blokes :0)

Ken said...

It would be nice to get some special recognition for having the ENTIRE collection...hmm.....maybe a special Stan Lee figurine :0)
That would be so appropriate and fitting!

Anonymous said...

I don't really like the idea of a Stan Lee figurine. Yes, he did a lot of the Marvel Universe. Hell, he pretty much invented the modern marvel universe. But other people have had as much if not more influence on things as he has. And I don't think he should be the only one to be recognized for it. So I think it's somewhat of a slippery slope to start with that.

Thor8 said...

Ken: How would you prove that you have the entire collection?

TGR said...

the only way to prove that you have the entire collection that would satisfy LaWay would be if he came round and saw it and double checked all the receipts :-)

Thor8 said...

Beast; A request for a Stan Lee figurine is not new on this blog many times before,(myself included)this request has been made. As for your comment that others have had as much influence or more than Lee,I'd like to see you mention a few. Stan not only inspired the "modern Marvel U",he was around in the golden age, silver age,and bronze age. If not for Stan there wouldn't be a Spider-Man or many of the ther Marvel big guns. Does he really deserve a figurine of his done??? YOU BET YOU CMFC HE DOES!

CGJ said...

Stan will get a cameo in this collection, he does in everything else!

I'm half expecting to see him in Dark Knight Rises as the batmobile whizzes past, shrugging his shoulders and whistling the Spiderman theme tune

Anonymous said...

How about the artists that had as much if not more influence on the Marvel Universe back in the day? Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, etc. Or writers like Len Wein and Chris Claremont. Especially CC who had way more to do with the success of the X-Men than Stan Lee ever did. It's the Classic Marvel Figurine Collection. Not the Classic Marvel Creators Figurine Collection. Just honoring Stan Lee is suggesting that he's the only one responsible for what Marvel is.

Robert said...

I'm with Thor8 on Stan being THE MAN. It goes waaaay beyond his creative input (which is mind-boggling), and even his consistent presence over many decades that no one else comes close to. He was the genius who gave Marvel its direction, cohesiveness and distinctive qualities. He created a special link to the readership through his Bullpen Bulletins, convention appearances, informal letters pages, No-Prizes and so on. Considering that Stan creations and co-creations have been transformed into all media and something Marvel-related has been seen by nearly everyone on the planet, Stan is arguably the greatest pop culture figure that has ever lived.

Grim, what about counterfeit receipts? Wouldn't you need to interview the sales staff too, just to be sure?

Oh no, hang on, they could be LMDs... ;)

Word verification: buttiest! (Really!)

Robert said...

CBR Beast, recognising Stan's genius doesn't lessen in any way what Jack, Steve and any number of talented folk did for Marvel. We now have brighter and more efficient lightbulbs than ever before, but we needed a genius like Edison to invent them.

Ken said...

@Thor8:

Yea that would be the tough part :-/

But I do believe when the CMFC finally ends (at least until #250, I would be most grateful), the LAST figure should be Stan Lee as a extra extra special figure :0) It would be so perfect and fitting!

TGR said...

not wishing to be picky but Edison didn't really invent the light bulb ;-)

but I digress...

Fantasicar idea???? nope, not for me...space is at a premium already and something that applies to just 4 of the hundreds of characters isn't the way ahead....sorry.

I don't think it is subscriptions that get these series started but it is initially important but its importance tails off as the series continues. They are trialled in test areas and are for sale in newsagents as well as online. Local TV advertising is the catalyst to get people buying; it's how we found out about CMFC, DC, Horror, Bat-vehicles collections etc

Robert said...

I knew someone would point that out! Okay, he invented the first reliable light bulb! Pick another invention of Edison's for my analogy then. He invented (and improved, I know) lots of things! You'd think someone who had a scythe for a hand and a synthezoid for a "brother" would have bigger things to worry about... :)

Well, I am done in so off to bed.

Grin I've been wearing since watching Cap yesterdat has still to wear off...

Despite the long list of villains I filled out many a list bad guys Gremlin thinks the big name villains are gone but in fact it is the big name heroes & heroines who have been done gone with many villains still waiting.

Bagman in talking about specials did not point out all the two pack specials none are villains.
PROFESSOR X & LILANDRA
KAZAR & ZABU
CLOAK & DAGGER
SASQUATCH & PUCK
NORTHSTAR & AURORA
That's ten good guys there. Then there is
COLOSSUS JUGGERNAUT
HULK THANOS
SPIDER-MAN RHINO
IRON MAN RONAN
MAN-THING SAURON
DESTROYER OMEGA RED
ODIN APOCALYPSE
KINGPIN
That's 17 heroes & 8 villains as Specials
Now the villains rule in Megas
GALACTUS
SENTINEL
FIN FANG FOOM
BLOB
MODOK
with the WATCHER all alone.
For a total of 18 to 13

@Robert ...LOL.... I don't worry about anything, just wondering how much I could sell false sales receipts for on eBay...it just might open a gap in the market. I'd only do it though if people subscribed to my sales, if they only wanted 10,000 on an ad-hoc basis it wouldn't be worth my efforts :-)

Stan Lee in the collection has been put to EM before. I think it was even suggested back in the heady days as we approached issue 100. Personally I think it would be a fitting closure figurine but it is a valid point that he is not the only one responsible for the MU and its massive expanse across many decades and, in our family, across 3 generations.

I would have preferred him standing there fists clenched ready for battle.
Hope you had a fun birthday SinVen.

When I FIRST discovered the collection, around #100 or something, my first brilliant thought was a Stan Lee figurine. I think I wrote in to EM suggesting that it would make a whole bunch of money.

Then I discovered the forum, then the blog, as well as half the people shooting the idea down because of "all the creators it would start to add..." or that "there are others just as worthy." Yeah, right.

Bagman said...

Hey Tinodragon14,as you said the two-packs are all good guys, thats why I never bothered counting them, if we'd had say Hale and Pace or Cannon and Ball or whoever i would have put them in. I can't think off-hand of a villianous two-pack, memory must be starting to go.
A qiunjet and/or Fantasticar? Don't know about that, but would give it some serious thought.
As for Stan, has anyone got the Bowen mini-busts of him and Jack Kirby? and how do they look?

Robert said...

I'm all for the last figure being Stan. There's loads of guys I admire, and perhaps even love, from comics, but the only guy I'm in awe of is Stan. The older I get, and consequently the more I learn about the history of Marvel and what went on behind the scenes, the more incredible - and seemingly impossible for a single human being - his role becomes.

In fact, what I would REALLY like is a large Stan figure that has a motion sensor so that it says "Excelsior!" every time you walk past! Now that would be cool! :)

Robert said...

The mini-busts are okay, Bagman F.F.F. Jack's is probably better. Wasn't terribly convinced by the Stan one.

Bagman said...

Thanks Robert, was tempted to buy them, but not sure if they'd look out of place or not, i suppose a marvelite would know them but others would probably think they're some sort of antique.
Any luck with the Captain Britain figure?

Robert said...

No, Bagman. Was considering the easy route of asking the guys in FP to keep one for me, but haven't been in since I heard about it. I was thinking of having the two Caps A and B going toe-to-toe with Thanos. After I make a quarterstaff, of course...

Cap A and Cap B toe-to-toe with Thanos?
Is that a storyline? If it's not it should be.

I'll have to ask about Firestar(?) see if they've got her too.

LAWay said...

So you can see results before voting? That doesnt seem right at all. If you want to fix a poll, knowing the results in advance to add votes in certain areas is a good way to do it. Or if you see you fav character with only 1 vote, you will probably vote one of your faves up the top end of the poll instead. if everyone else thinks the same, then nothing changes.

Also, idiotic comments here. Subscription numbers are actually worse for EM? lol Sure, they have to pay postage, but ALL money go to EM. Buying from a retailer, who has to buy from EM, profit margins are less because the retailers are not paying £6.99 a figurine. They may only pay £3-£4.

CBR Beast keeps urging people to read like he knows the facts. Dan said subscribtion numbers are the figures that the money men keep an eye on. Diamond distributions is also a factor. The people who pick and choose....they are not factored into the collection.

Why?

Because you guys are not a reliable source of income. Subscriptions are. They know they have x amount of subscribers, meaning x amount of money coming in. Because of the mass orders to the US (i can only assume) thats why diamond must be looked at as an important figure, seen as subscribers in US essentially on the book sheets.

If subscription numbers go down, EM cannot predict how well the collection will continue, and thats why they will shut things down.

To reiterate...subscription numbers keep this thing afloat. Dan said so himself. Even IF you buy every figurine, you dont exist on the books of the money men as a reliable source of income. There would be nothing to differench someone buying every figurine to date or 200 people buying a single spider-man figure. Subscription numbers lets them know what they can work with.

Not saying subscriber opinions are MORE important...I am saying they should be listened to. We dont know how many exist on the forums. Or this blog. We dont know what they strictly think of the collection. If its an incentive to get people to subscribe if subscribers got exclusive input into the collection would it boost subscription numbers and thus keep the collection going longer?

You know...because Dan said its all about subscription numbers.

Would I get a resin quinjet? Possibly...price would be an issue. I would imagine it would be £50+ unless they scaled it down. Then again, I would buy all the figurines if they moved them to resin too. Wouldnt be a problem.

Now...get your receipts out. ;)

TGR said...

Laway, the Gamora poll is a two option poll; Costume A or Costume B.
You can see the results before voting but you cannot "sway" the result by voting for a non-existent Option C.

You argue vehemently against the polls but don't have the facts on how they are run or why they are run the way they do.

sales figures (my opinion on things):

Let's put this in simple terms. Imagine EM have 20 customers. 10 are subscribers (get whatever is made) and 10 are occasional buyers (pick and choose favoured product). No matter what EM make they will at least sell 10 (to the subscribers). If the item on offer is popular to the non-subscribers then they may end up selling all 20. However, if the item on offer is not popular they may sell zero to the non-subscribers. Ergo, which of these two groups of buyers do you need to target your product at to ensure maximum sales?

Like I said, Subscribers are a base-line but it is the Non-subscribers that would have the greatest effect on sales and so it is they that are the target market.

Only if subscriptions start to fall (get cancelled) would EM need to look at the reasons why and THEN they might listen more to what the subscribers are saying.

as CBR Beast said the ol' Sue Storm is a custom.

when the figure first came out I was in contact with a man who knew a man that could get these replicated in perspex on a quite advanced 3D milling machine. Sadly nothing ever came of it as the friend-of-friend quit work about 2 weeks later. Sad really as it might have been a nice little earner :-)

Also are there some other figures you are having difficulty getting hold of then Jinx?

JinxDealer said...

@ TGR. thanks,i think i have all the variants (5 of them ??) i have all the rare ish 1's i.e thor nightcrawler, galactus etc, the only 1 im having difficulty getting is rhino with the art work bag. (ps i have concerns my green quicksilver could be a fake but not sure how to check)

TGR said...

There's a couple of Rhino figs + mags up on eBay at the moment and I might have a spare bag (no guarantee on that though)

Yes 5 variants, If Green quicksilver is a repainted fake then its base number might give it away. AFAIK these are made in batches and figures have consecutive base numbers. Ask others who have the green variant to to say what their base number are, if yours falls in there then it should be OK, if it is a closer match to the standard fig then it may indicate a fake.

HTH

At one time I had a list of base number ranges but that has long gone now.

Apart from the impression that the CMFC could be more widely known (this is based on comments on here and the fact that the only advertising I ever saw was in the two weeks prior to the release of Spidey), I am a bit reluctant to suggest to Eaglemoss how to market this collection. Firstly, I don't tell my doctor what's wrong with me as I don't have a medical degree. Similarly, I don't have a business degree or a marketing background, and Eaglemoss have a long history of successful collections. They must surely have a reasonable grasp of what they are doing or they would have gone out of business a while ago and the CMFC would not have lasted as long as it has. Seems common sense, really, but maybe I'm over-simplifying...

Word verification is "nedboy", which is an insult in Glasgow!

After the comment I posted in my previous post an emergency occured and I was unable to follow up on the Stan Lee dilema.I know this topic is old news but I just wanted to mention that having a figurine of the man who practically created the MU is not in any way taking away any honor or credit from any of the other greats who through te decades have contributed to expand and improve said universe.I mean many people have helped to inprove Disney productons, but who's picture and name do you see plastered all over the place? Many have invented and improved vehicles for Ford motor company, but you dont see the names Ford & Smith & James & Jackson and so for on the car models do you. Stan is prctically the founder of this universe and doing him this honor would be well met.

Jinxdealer,
Just checked the Green Quicksilver i have and the number is BFG/8695.

Had a look at the Invisible Woman custom and my first thought was how well would that sell.

Robert said...

Does anyone know how many variant Quicksilvers were made? I was under the impression there weren't that many, which makes me wonder if the numbering actually started at 1. Assuming the numbers we do know about are consecutive - Bagman 8695, Toon 9136, Jinx 9435, Victor 9527 - and employing some basic arithmetic, then the total produced has to be at least 832. Anyone know anything about this?

Bagman said...

Robert, from recollection i believe that only 1000 Green Quicksilvers where made.

John said...

TGR said...

@Robert

The numbering was always a mystery (even to Al) back in the early days. You'd get a run of numbers for Fig A, then Fig B would follow , then it would flip back to Fig A again..

I'll dig out my old list for you to plough through if you want. I just guessed the figs were made in batch runs, and more were commissioned if demanded.

Blue Quicksilver = AWW/5153

didn't get the greenie

Robert said...

Thanks, Bagman F.F.F. I had a vague notion of 500 at most in my head, though I don't think this was based on anything concrete, so when that proved wrong I was curious how many it really was. Actually, loads of questions are prompted by the variants.

1. How many/ what percentage of collectors buy both and what percentage buy one version (either the one they first saw or the one they think looks better)?
2. Are the standard Blue Quicksilvers produced in the same numbers as a standard regular figure or does the production of 1000 green Quicksilvers mean the number is reduced by 1000 (or 500 or whatever number)?
3. This is really a silly question of no importance, but if there were only 1000 figures, why not start at 1? Did the numbering of the greens start after the blues? In other words, say 8694 Blues were produced, then the first Green would be 8695. I know, who cares? But still, tehre's a reason for everything, right?

Someone made a see through sue storm custom? Wow, impressive!

Also, i thought this week was going to be a slow discussion, but its been a pretty active one. Very cool to see.

Yeh, sorry TGR, didnt know all the facts. I thought the poll worked like most online polls where you had to vote first to see the results, I must not have seen the 'see results' button. But seeing the results before voting is rather odd.

Still not buying the whole 'the casual buyer is more important' idea man. The idea is based on the assumption that the collection is safe because of subscribers. If those 10 initial subscribers didnt exist in your analogy, the collection wouldnt exist, ergo the casual buyers would have nothing to buy. The collection relies on the safety net of subscribers, needing x amount of subscribers to keep it going.

Basically its like saying 'who cares about the subscribers, they are stupid enough to already spend their money on everything, lets spend our resources listening to the guys who dont give us much money.'

Like I said, casual buyers buy from shops. It means the profit margins are reduced because all the money doesnt go directly to EM. The retailers buy from EM at a cheaper price so that they can make a profit themselves. The main thing EM should target this group of buyers for is getting them to subscribe via an incentive to make it worth their while.

You cant predict what characters will sell. EVERYONE says they love the lesser known, lesser merchandised characters, but if they aint selling, EM aint learning anything from the casual buyers other than they are fickle and liars. It can steer EM into making more of x-men, spider-man etc characters, but then people are complaining about it not being diverse enough.

Because of this erratic nature of buying, the numbers coming in from casual buyers cannot be trusted as reliable income. Thus subscription is the key like Dan said, and the key is to get casual buyers to subscribe, via incentives. The fact that existing subscribers would also benefit from the incentive is purely a bonus, a reward for their loyalty from the beginning.

Just because subscribers are already caught in the net doesnt mean their views are irrelevant to making the product better. If anything it is just as important, because they already love the collection and may have ideas to make it better, rather than people who simply 'like' the collection and want to change it into something its not.

BATMAN / CHESS SETS
- has anyone seen these around btw? Seemed cool at the time.

TGR said...

no snags on the poll stuff laway...at least you know now.

as for subby vs subscriber...i did say subbies are a baseline and that if their numbers fell then EM would need to go figure why..but if the subbies are at or above baseline, their input is less important than the non subbies.

hope not another chess set... there are where people do get hooked and are then committed to continue, just like the old "build hms victory" or "build a radio control car" now fo rthem You cannot pick and choose LOL

TheTooN said...

I read that the green quicksilver's were limited to 1000 somewhere as well. Most likely on the old forum. I do like the variant figures but werent they sold exclusively through FP rather than for subbies ? All mine came late via Ebay so not sure.

It would be quite unfair on those overseas to have UK only subbie figures so I dont know how EM could make it work. I was gobsmacked at the going rate for red rooftop Spidey when I broke mine. Its Blu tacked down now after a tip from one of the guys on the forum.

Found the link for Mute's site so check it out. Clear Sue is there as well as a host of others. I also loved Dredd and Anderson.

http://www.mutemonster.com/

Archangel - Thanks for the info on Mute's Sue, I thought molds were mega money so I have learned something there. I reckon he would have had a nice money spinner if quality was consistent. I wonder if EM have considered making clear Sue or Iceman variants ? I would snap those up and would probably even Subscribe if I had too ;) I would also love a clear Martinex if/when we see Starhawk/Yondu.

But if the current subscriber numbers fall, the collection goes. End of story. Fail to keep the current and loyal fans happy and the collection ends. Thats why I am suggesting incentives to get new subscribers and keep current ones. But NO ONE is saying anything.

mgf said...

Perhaps subscribers should cancel and see how important non-subscribers really are? That would seem to be a neat solution.

Then those who pick up two or three per extension but think that gives them the right to impose their views on everyone else can bear the fiscal strain instead.

I'm sure the cancellation notice won't come through for at least a month.

We saw the pandering to passing trade with movie Iron Man, and how pointless it is.

"Mummy?"

"Yes, Johnny?"

"Can I have this?"

"Ten quid??? What are you, nuts?"

Instead of a proper buckethead, in grey and gold perhaps, we got something that doesn't fit the collection and doesn't have an ounce of the charm of what might have, and should have, been.

LAWay said...

Would have loved a first appearance comic iron man, gray or gold. Would have been so much better.

John said...

I love the Movie Iron Man. I think its a VERY well done sculpt. However, I never want to see anything like that ever again. I want every character to be an original character from the 616 (no redos, and only alternate dimensions of characters that were other people, i.e. Spidey 2099, Psycho-Man, Blastaar, etc.) and on SEPARATE bases. I ordered Mr. Myx today with both excitement and disappointment... as I'm also getting Bat-Mite right out front... :(

Subscribers are important AS A BASELINE...

..if all subbies cancelled then it would probably be the end of the collection BUT as i've said before as long as subbies remain stable it is the Non-subscribers that will either buy or reject the next issue. I say "probably" because we don't know the balance of subby/non-subby collectors. It is possible that sales figures would be sufficiently strong enough to keep the collection afloat at a decent profit; only the EM bean-counters know the answer to that mystery.

If a figurine is not to the liking of the subby I doubt they would cancel on the strength of that but the "poor" figurine choice maybe wouldn't sell in the shops. That is why I believe the non subscriber can have more of an effect on sales. Maybe sounds harsh to us subbies but it is a fact of life.

Yes, there are figurines that I would not have bought as a non-subscriber but I accept the variety in the collection and get them anyway and i certainly wouldn't consider cancelling the subscription just because A N Other superhero was in pink tights rather than the more common red variety or because the hair on another was the wrong shade of green.

(wonder if we'll crack 500)

"

But that is my point ....if the figures on offer result in only 3 per extension getting picked up then EM have made the mistake of not listening to the pick-and choosers; had they done so then they'd be clearing 8 or 9 of the extension from the shop shelves. n'est pas

Someone asked about female specials. My guess is that there aren't nearly as many large females as there are large males. I would have picked Hela as a special (and did some time ago), but she ended up a regular. Honestly, I think Thundra could be a regular as well. So... who does that leave? Madame Web if they do her in her throne (which would be boss, by the way), maybe Anaconda of the Serpent Society (a team we don't look anywhere close to starting), and who else? Also, we have had some pretty female heavy extensions lately. I'd rather get a villain. Why not Trapster? I think he'd be keen.

The only female special I can think of is Big Berta Gutterpunk.

I am probably one of the few US buyers that uses plinths and binders. Since Diamond will not sell them anymore and EM cannot sell them to me direct I have had to resort to Ebay and people on the SHFF from the UK to help me. Of course the overseas shipping is as much as a plinth.

But I guess EM doesn't want any more of my money or else they would start selling the plinths in the US again.

DP, nice python big boy. After 7 or 8 Jaegermeisters, i once let a big hairy biker show me his massive python..believe me if that had just been a euphamism fer his John Thomas that would have been easily less scary than the 15ft constrictor he dragged into the lounge???
Casey Ryback, is right man, the guy has set us subbies free. For too long EM has counted on us Forrest Gumps to swallow whatever was served to us without question.
All the while they bent over buttwards to win over people who sometimes had to fork out up to £5.99 per year!!
So Dan , tomorrow i cancel my subscription until such time as you announce one of my wants.
Yeahhh! baby i'm gonna love contributing dickall to the EM coffers, While still demanding this and that..Cheers Casey.
Bloodstone or Princess P...or else!!!
Right i'm off to play "Turkish bath simulator"online, with PA.

female special

obviously its going to be madame web to tie-in with the amazing spiderman next summer :D

i think that stature should be a regular when she gets in. only size changer that should be special sized imo is atlas. and thats because hes always drawn larger than the other characters even when hes not giant sized. also, it would be cool if we got fixer in the next extension and atlas as a special as it would finish the original thunderbolts.

deamon said...

Agree Madame Web special should be released with movie next year.
By the way, Dan do You know anything we will have more specials in Poland?
We had only 2 specials last year, and only 2 this year.

RISE OF THE SUBSETS
Dan, I wonder if you are now in a position to tell us more about the feasibility of subsets.

You'd certainly have the knowledge and talent to produce thematic subsets. With so many amazing Marvel characters left to cover, what we need is a subset with a broad theme which allows a great mix of much-loved characters...

For example, an
ALIEN RACES SUBSET
would have the flexibility to include a great variety of characters like
> Yondu (a Centaurian)
> Marrina (a Plodex)
> Starfox (a Titan)
> Hepzibah (a Tryl'sartian)
> Starhawk (a Vesperian)
and so on.

Are you The One?
You are doing a stellar job with the 181-200 extension and the blog updates, and I hope you'll also be the one to give fans the first awesome CMFC subset. :)

Victor said...

I'm all for various subsets that feature re-do's, original costume X-Men, Mystique white costume, X-Factor, Drax, Carol Danvers Binary and so on...

Ken said...

There are many preferences where Stan Lee was included in a Marvel collection or some other art form...he was created as a collectible card in the Marvel Universe series 1 trading card set as well as appearing in every single Marvel film. So as the MOST influential Marvel person, it is only fitting that he should be made into a figurine outside of the normal line, but as an extra special figurine at the very end of the collection.

John said...

Gutterpunk: "I'd rather get a villain. Why not Trapster? I think he'd be keen."

See that, Dan? Even Gutterpunk wants Trapster! Please just announce Trapster tomorrow. :D

I also want to echo Mighty Marvel in that I reeeally want Fixer next extension to add to the Thunderbolts. He'd be the last of the originals besides an Atlas Special. (Could I also request a regular sized Special for Atlas? I don't want him as a size-changer... the boy's just big.)

And I wanted to echo everyone else asking for Madame Web. ;)

John said...

"as well as appearing in every single Marvel film."

Ghost Rider
Man-Thing
Howard the Duck
Wolverine
Punisher...

I want him too, but make sure your points are solid, or the nay-sayers will have a field day picking things apart. ;)

mighty_marvel said...

after the initial complaints i think the idea of trapster tomorrow has grown on most of the nay-sayers. he definitely seems to have been mentioned alot more in the recent posts. you know its the right choice dan. he was your first instinct and gives us an F4 character which is currently absent from this extension.

TRAPSTER and SHAMAN for the reveal

"I have been told off for being too open and honest about EM stuff."

Really? Not sure what it is in particular you've been revealing that has irked your bosses, Dan, but from the point of view of everyone on here, you've been a shot in the arm for this blog. As you yourself pointed out, this week alone had over 500 comments. That didn't happen before. Why? Because you post every week, the content is substantial and interesting, and we all feel more in touch with what's going on than before. I don't want this post to sound ingratiating, it's just facts that I'm sure any collector would support.

So, if you are a senior guy reading this, Dan is doing a great job of keeping us fickle fanboys enthusiastic about the CMFC even though it has now been going for, what, six years and characters are getting increasingly obscure. If anything, you should be thanking him for what he's doing.

Not keen on another Alpha Flighter when we're probably getting the twins as a double pack. Keep Shaman for the next extension.

Trapster for me.

Bagman F.F.F., that's an incredible Thor statue.

Victor said...

This will be the next extension. The twins are due in January 2012. This extension will only begin in July 2012 and ends in 2013. I believe that the fact that Shaman is included in this extension will make the sales go up much of the twins.

IT'S OVER 500!!!!!!!!!
Ahem...yeah, it's great to see the blog so full of life and to have so many comments in one week. Makes me a happy chappy :)
Hmmmmm...now I'm just thinking about the characters that will be confirmed today and who is likely to make the top 3 in the poll. I believe there is a good chance that Wolfsbane and Silver Samurai could be amongst those 3 but if I were to say Trapster and Shaman today, what would the chances be of my other favourite choices: Baron Mordo, Whirlwind, Deathbird etc, would be amongst the winners in the poll. If we didn't get Trapster today, would he be amongst the top 3. Anyway you know where I'm going with this.
I think I will stand by what I said before and say Trapster and Shaman today and I can only keep my fingers crossed if my other favourites win the poll or if I'm lucky enough to win the competition.
And I do hope for some sneak peaks of Sif and Hela soon. Even Shaw painted.
SV

Robert said...

Okay, Victor, I stand corrected.

Blog Master Dan said...

Sorry no Hela, Sif or Firelord yet - I'm not holding anything back (only Sif is commissioned), as soon as we get 'em I'll post 'em asap.

btw Thanks for the support. I Might have to do a mid-week blog update just to divide up the comments!!!!
