We're Back!

Took a week off, but I bring good news (for those who don't know already) - We have the final results from the Forum Choice polls!

Top 20 went like this:

Shaman 61
Stingray 56
Wolfsbane 54

Silver Samurai 51
Sage 37
White Tiger (Hector Alaya) 36
Grey Gargoyle 31
Star-Lord 26
Warlock 26
Sunspot 24
Whirlwind 24
US Agent 23
Baron Mordo 22
Constrictor 20
Count Nefaria 20
High Evolutionary 20
Selene 20
Corsair 19
Mantis 19
Dust 18

So Wolfsbane, Shaman and Stingray go through (I'm very pleased about that).

Stingray and Shaman I would assume would be in these costumes... (unless anyone has any major objections?)

Wolfsbane on the other hand has lots of possible looks (Forum guys if you haven't done it already you're welcome to do a poll - I'll try my best to go with the majority!)

Here are just a few of her 'looks'. I would imagine a mid-change look would suite her (hirsute -geddit?).

There's also some interesting runners up to consider if we get another extension.

IN OTHER NEWS...

Owl revised (with fatter face and more defined hair)

Hammerhead (further along, still needs a few tweaks and refinements, especially to the gun)

Final coloured MODOK wraparound cover

Andi Tong's rough sketch for Photon (we'll add lightning type energy emanating from the energy globe to create the background - plus I've asked Andi for more boobage - as she seems quite flat-chested at the moment!)

COMPETITION UPDATE

Was going to run the competition today, but still need to iron out a few technical details - will definately have it for next friday, if not sooner! Sorry for the delay.

Have a grand weekend! Dan

Reminds me of that sketch when they where trying to find a name for Steve Davis (snooker player).
You had
"Hurricane" Higgins.
"Whirlwind" White.
and the best they came up with for Davis ----
Destroyer Davis -- No
Devastating Davis -- No
Dynamite Davis -- No
Here's what we got ---
"INERESTING" Davis!!!!!

I think once Sif is painted she will look great standing next to the Balder we got. On her own i would have prefered a more comic styled one as this one looks very like the dcs wonder woman in many ways.

Both the wip and Grims coloured version are here. I think its really toned down both arms and boobs.

What do you think Robert ? any better in colour ?

kissynose said...

What is the worst figure in your opinion?

I have to say

Dazzler
Phoenix
Juggernaut

mighty_marvel said...

for me personally rogue is the worst fig.

but i would imagine that collectors at large would say it was crystal.

TheTooN said...

Yeah I would agree with MM Rogue sucks !

Special mention to Adam Warlock who was a real letdown for me.

Robert said...

Thanks for posting the link, Toon (and also thanks to Grim for the colouring in the first place.)

Yes, it's better. It's now a bit closer to what Sif looks like.

Although I should be clear that this is only "closer" in the same way that Malaysia is closer to Scotland than Australia.

Archangelsr said...

Worst figure is Rouge by a country mile.

My favourite figure is jack of hearts. The detail and the paint work on this figure makes him a true masterpiece imo

wolfsbane costume poll update:

part one: degree of transformation

don't mind.....15 (9.0%)
human..........5 (3.0%)
hybrid.........118 (71.1%)
full wolf......28 (16.9%)

part two: costume

don't mind.....11 (5.4%)
none...........25 (12.2%)
new mutants....20 (9.8%)
90s x factor...73 (35.6%)
00s x force....20 (9.8%)
00s x factor...56 (27.3%)

hybrid form is massively in the lead. surely EM will go with this. costume choice is closer but the only one that really makes sense (and also happens to be the most popular) with the hybrid form is 90s x-factor as she didn't often use the hybrid form in the other costumes. i think these choices would make a great fig that would stand-out from the other wolf characters in the collection.

Like my good mate Robert,I also have read(and own) every single Thor comic since JIM #83,and I find this sculpt of Sif to be a bit of the mark. I'm not implying that it's a bad sculpt,it is well done. It's just that it is not quite Sif. Maybe if EM could replace the big bulky cape with something a little more moderate, and toned down the "excess bagage" she would lok more acceptable.

Thor8 said...

IMO;

Worst female figurine= Crystal

Worst male figurine= Carnage

TheTooN said...

Lol @Robert.....soooo still miles off then ;)

I dont know Wolfsbane so voted 'dont mind' I looked at the first couple of pics mm linked and see she is Scottish ! Whats your take on seeing Scot's slang Robert ? (or any other lurkers from north of the border....Ted ?)

Is it good or cringeworthy ? I almost always laugh when I hear an American trying to do the accent but in print it should be easier right ?

Jack of Hearts is right up there with the best of EM's figurines imo and probably 'the' finest paintjob. I do love Enchantress and BRB too though.

And coming from you Archangel thats a compliment and a half !

I still lust after your Juggernaut.
ooooo...eerr :P

@Kissynose - If Archangel still has pics (do you ?) thats what he looks like painted by an expert taking hours instead of minutes. Might not be in your list of bad figs if you had that one :)

Anyone here doing commissions btw ?

I think the collection could get to 500 and I would never see The Fury so am resigned to begging :)

Is there a Deadpool in the house ?

I would happily pay a talented guy to see him next to Captain Britain.

Elvenbrit did a fine job using Carnage as a base figurine but I would love to have one full height.

http://images.wikia.com/marveldatabase
/images/b/b1/The_Fury_Earth_238.png

If I cant get one made to suit the CMFC I have seen one on US Ebay in Marvel Legends scale and would go that route. I MUST HAVE the Fury ;)

jimbob said...

WoW Sif looks really good.Makes Moondragon look even more ridiculous!

Make me really want The Three Warriors now.

I like that EM has kept the same standard of quality on all the Asgardian sculpts.

Hope they have use the same sculpture for Hela.

Hey Toon

Thanks for the compliment.

If you mean the black costumed Juggernaut im sure i have the pic on the external hard drive ill dig it out later for you.

I was going to say elvin brit for the fury as hes already done one and is a massive fan of cap b and the uk side of marvel . Think the main problem with them would be the scale and would need to be scratch built.

Robert said...

Best Scot's accent on comicbooks is definitely Middenface McNulty in 2000AD, Toon. Although that WAS written by a Scot.

To be fair, Marvel have been okay as far as Scots accents go. (Although Chris Claremont thinks Edinburgh has skyscrapers!) They tend to be rather diabolical with Sassenach accents, though. All these "Gor, blimeys" and "guvnors" and other Victorianisms! I recall when Spidey visited Liverpool in the 1980s he was rescued from the Mersey by a fishing boat! That got some rather bemused mail from the Scousers!

TheTooN said...

I dont think there is a lead base fig that would do him justice in terms of height. Not bought any of the DC ones so not sure on that side. Its a scratch build I would like or one based off an action fig.

Not sure if Juggernaut was black tbh it was on the old board. I just remember the shading and detailing blew me away as did pretty much all of your work.

I would happily ship you a box of EM figurines a month for your treatment ;) Do you still do commission work too or dont have time ?

izzyblack#!__gallery

Some stunning ML customs on here including a Fury.

Ahhh McNulty :) Just googled for a choice bit of dialogue...

"I've got a message fer a' you norms - Bring it on ya numpties ! We'll gie ye Laldy, an nae mistake"

Awesome indeed :) Who wrote that Robert ? my memory is very poor.

2000AD............Drooling again. :P

First of all, welcome back Robert and BD! Great to hear from you guys again.
Second, my worst figs? My worst female is Crystal. My worst male would be Captain Britain.
Third, Sif looks awesome! No doubt she'll be shown in tomorrows update but let's hope we have another sculpted or painted fig shown too so that we have something new to look at :)
Looking at Sif makes me want the Warriors Three even more!

Alan Grant, Toon.

It wasn't just the diction. He used to have Middenface mention places like Arran (small island off western coast of Scotland) and so on. We may have folk like Mark Millar (who I like a lot), but Grant's the main Scottish guy in terms of writing as far as I'm concerned.

Archangelsr said...

Think this may be the picture Toon.

That was 3 years ago though and some of my early stuff. I really should tackle him again now with what ive learnt.

As for anything else check out my blog mate and give me a shout on there (saves any potential trouble from Dan or Em bods :) )

Robert is Millar not talking about setting his next film up here in Scotland?

Robert said...

I think so. He has a rather quaint and lovable attitude that Scotland is the best place in the world. He cast Glen Michael - Scottish kid's TV legend to those who don't know - as a hotdog seller in "Kickass", although the scene ended up on the cutting room floor. Millar's also talked about casting the Krankies in something! Gotta love that level of Scottish nuttiness!

By the way, you wana Jock Tamson's bairns anaw?

Archangelsr said...

Stuck in little Dundee. What about your self?

Robert said...

Glasgow.

Ted is also in the City of Discovery...

TheTooN said...

How could I have forgotten it was Alan Grant !! DOH I still never got down the old comics Robert. And I need some more paints so never got any further with the Wolverine ML custom.

Now you are back I might get my arse in gear again :)

I will drop you an email tomorrow Archangel.

Anyone have a clue why the blog chops off hyperlinks halfway through ? I tried on IE and Chrome and same deal. I cant navigate to most links folk put up on here because of this including your Juggernaut pics.

Robert what language was that last line :P

And if DP is reading this and fancies a go at Fury email me at scott@toony.plus.com :)

Happy to spend £100 for a cracking custom or scratch build.

Archangelsr said...

Jeez Toon money to waste with that much most people will do them for less. Try rage wolf if your on the forum hes good at scratch builds.

Robert you mean i could meet Ted for a dram in our fair city and set the world to rights over little lead men. :)

TheTooN said...

I thought customs were really expensive ?

I asked Mute about an Ape Beast once but thats the only time I ever asked about one.

Embarrassed now......

And Jealous I'm not up there to have pint too :) As a Geordie I am told I am just a Scot with ma heed kicked in.

Archangelsr said...

Geordies can be honorary socts. And if your ever in the area feel free to come view the 4 cabinets that the missus hates for dominating the house.

Always more funny with a beer in hand.

As for customs it depends on the materials and time etc but 100 is pretty much over the top mate. Then again each figure and customiser has there own price scale for these things.

Robert said...

I was going to ask you about Wolvie, Toon.

I can't comment on half-finished projects as I started filing down Moondragon's head to remove the dumb headband and, well, didn't get any further than that. Too much needing done in the house and garden at the moment.

You'll go back to it when you've time.

Robert said...

On the subecj of spousal animosity, Arch(ie), I had shelves with comics and statues in the hall and every room (bar the loo and kitchen) in teh house. My wife insisted that we convert the loft. To be fair, my stuff was everywhere...

Archangelsr said...

Ahhh i have a huge pile of marvel legends. My comic collection, the cmfc collection a semi unloved dc collection and a sprinkling of bowens about the house. Add to that two children who i have raised in the way of marvel who have universe figures and super squad and i some times get why she gets annoyed. Then again she has decorated the bed room purple!
Surely thats us even?

Robert said...

Purple? In Marvel terms that makes her a villain! Loads of villains have purple costumes! (Galactus, Wizard, Green Goblin, etc.)

Bagman said...

I mind when my wife painted our fireplace purple (it NEEDS to be) and then decided after two hours she didn't like it and then repainted to it's original white !!!! I tell you they're still a mystery.

kissynose: "What is the worst figure in your opinion?"

Why do we always jump to the negatives?

Anyway, Gamora...

LAWay said...

I quite like the Sif sculpt. I mean, she is pretty buff and has clearly been pumping iron, but I like the smooth, chiselled style of it. It certainly aint bad, and not near as man like as some of the sculpts we have seen.

I have a feeling, i could be wrong, but these are computer renders of the sculpt and so the final figurine may not come out looking as great as this. We shall see though.

@TheToon

The MU line annoys me when they do double packs and throw in a brand new character with one they released early on. The price that they are in the UK, I just cant afford to buy them all. But then again, looking at all the single figures, I am going to buy an awful lot of the future series.

LAWay said...

I do feel sorry for the EM guys. Like you said, the main audience is probably really ancient, grey haired, tubby guys...real oldies like 30-40s. ;)

Seriously though, must get confusing because alot of the guys like the older, more 'classic' characters and looks, and we had the problem with Drax, so perhaps EM were being very wary that even though the poll wanted the recent look like with Drax, they thought there would be the same outrage by the folks who prefer the classic look, and didnt count on them preferring the newer design.

Who knows though, it could still be great.

kissynose said...

My personal choice is Dazzler(My favorite superher). I only bring up the topic because I hope they will redo some figures some day.

Archangelsr said...

@ laway

Asda were selling off loads of marvel universe at £2.50

I managed to pick up kitty, cable, gladiator, 3x aim agents and juggernaut from them

Id rather more new characters than redos. Yeah all the costumes aint been great but in that respect its like a comic when you suddenly open it up and go what the hell where they thinking there. Sometimes it grows on you other times not so much :)

CGJ said...

HATE the Sif sculpt!

She is supposed to be an Asgardian warrior, she looks like she is going to a fancy dress party at the Playboy mansion

LAWay said...

@Archangelsr

WHAT!? Dammit, I would have picked them all up too. Cheapest in my Asda were £5 so I picked up quite a few of them and the Captain America movie figures, which is a brill series.

Thing is, with comics, when things aren't working, they change them to please the fans. ;)

LAWay said...

forgot it was update day, this week has flown by chaps.

Also...anyone notice the hulk picture that says 'blog'. Looks like the hulk is sporting a moustache which I found funny.

Hope its a good update today. Maybe news on the contest?

We have been asked by EM to run 5 market-research polls for them. They relate to plans for MARVEL/DC Chess Sets and also specifics for a BATMOBILE COLLECTION.

Please take 2 minutes of your time to vote.

All 5 polls are in the POLLING BOOTH > http://www.superherofigurineforum.com/polling-booth-f12.html

&
What Type of Batmobiles should be in a BATMOBILE COLLECTION

so pop in there now and make your voice heard

Thanks

If you cannot get in there then drop me an e-mail, or ask a fellow blogger to vote by proxy (it only affect 4 people) and i'll get it sorted. These are collectors polls, so all opinions count.

deamon said...

Juggernaut, Rogue and Carnage are bad figurines?
Guardian, Moondragon, Captain Britain are much worse.

Zero interest in Chess sets or a Batmobile collection.

Gimmie Marvel subsets and I'll bite EM's hands off !

Original GotG, Wrecking Crew, Warriors 3, for a start.

Or 2000AD ?

Off out on the beer so have a good weekend guys and gals :)

@Archangel..email delayed...Beer :P
