Sorry for the no-show on friday, had a sneaky day off (and completely forgot about you guys hanging around in cyber-space!)
Trust you've all had a go at the competition? deadline is the 30th. We probably won't be able to turn it around in a day, so we may not have a winner announced by friday, But I'll confer with Rich on that. Good luck anyway!

Thanks for the update, Dan. It was a nice surprise.
Longshot looks really good - and that's from someone with zero interest in the mutants.
Also, enjoyed seeing the cover sketches for Captain Marvel. Any of the first three would have been fine with me as I liked them all. Will she be painted white or silver...?
She will be white. never considered silver? could've looked interesting.
I really like that Domino sculpt and that was one I wasn't fussed over at all.
Longshot looks like a good choice of pose too
Like Robert, any of those Captain Marvel covers would have been ok with me, I think white is the right way to go on the costume too.
What a positive post!
Cool Longshot.
He's one of the X-characters I really like at this stage. Can't wait to add him to my display.
I agree about Photon covers. All of them look really good, I'd be glad with any of them.
And, yes, the Monday update has been a great and nice surprise. Thanks, Dan.
Domino is looking nice. I still think the other pose would have been better but the paintjob on her looks great and she seems a solid figure so I won't complain ;)
With Longshot, I'm still not entirely convinced on his Wolvie-esque pose. I think the other pose would have been better but he seems to be coming along alright. So the painted version may win me over!
Nice Photon cover too btw. Thanks for the udpate Dan!
Thanks for answering my question, Dan. I always thought that the good lady captain's costume was silvery or pearlescent rather than white. Not fussed either way, though. Just glad we're getting her at last. She was a major character for the Avengers for years and even acted as (a very capable) leader, so she was probably overdue.
For now Domino looks really good but I'm afraid how she'll look in real. Her face could be really awful if painters won't do their best.
Longshoot is ok but I still like to see him in difrent pose.
Waiting to see Moonstar or Moonstone on friday.
Nice surprise indeed.
I'm not familiar with any of the characters but both Domino and Longshot look nice.
Is Photon from the 60's or 70's ? I started reading about 75 and dont remember her at all.
She could make a nice Foxy Cleopatra custom :P Fat B'st is easy enough with Blob, what base fig would suit Austin anyone ?
Nice to see you back Dan ;)
Both figures looks cool.
Love the Photon cover. It's beautiful.
Monica first appeared in the '82 Spidey Annual, Toon. Lovely, lovely art by Romita junior and senior. Spider-Man introduced her to the Avengers in that story and, best as I remember, she joined them not too long afterwards. She was a mainstay of the team throughout the rest of the '80s and was probably in every Stern-Buscema issue.
I wanted different poses for both.
I'm worry about Domino paintjob on her face too.
Longshot looks gay keeping this bag like a woman during shopping.
Ta Robert.
I must have stopped reading before she joined. I only ever read Avengers reprints in MWOM etc so was even further back for the time I was onboard.
She doesnt do anything for me from a looks point of view but not many females in the CMFC do.
Hope she surprises me when I get hold of her.
Anyone else managed to grab Odin yet ? I'm chomping at the bit for my backorder which is waiting for him. Also when is Blackheart due ?
9 or 10 regulars and 2 specials when it lends. Its gonna be like Christmas :) Wish me luck on the paint jobs.
@Tomas - I dont know Longshot at all, is that not what he usually looks like ? or is it the way his arm rests on the bag that bothers you ? And maybe 'effeminate' would have been a better choice of word ? (before anyone gets riled up again)
Yeah, Longshot looks like that. I'm talking about keeping bag. And other hand is similar to Wolverine. There were better poses for him, as Dan showed pics before.
He shouldn't care the bag like a woman, just look here at the bag:

http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/3/33806/787261-ls6035.jpg
Domino looks great and Longshot looks like a great sculpt.
Any chance we can see the Danielle Moonstar sculpt soon?
Surprised anyone is picking up on Longshot's bag. Surely the mullet is the first port of call when questioning his sense of fashion...?
A more action oriented pose would have been better I guess.
Oh, Toon, you're welcome. Monica was a very likeable character and I was sorry when they wrote her out of the Avengers. I think the problem with her was that she was so powerful that it was difficult to keep coming up with ways for villains to overcome her. I mean, how do you stop someone who is as fast as light??
Also didn't EM learn after Kallark bad pose mistake? Again hand in front of face.
Just realised something about the Domino sculpt....the red patches on her costume should be blue. It looks like one of her recent costumes.
http://www.comicvine.com/domino/29-2161/all-images/108-210887/4106-domino/105-113179/
Admittedly I am not 100% on all her appearences but I don't recall her wearing the red version.
To be honest the sculpt is pretty awesome regardless. I just thought that if this was a simple colouring error than it can be caught early. If she has worn the red version then fair enough, I just wasn't aware of it.
Good work regardless.
I have no clue about her power set, when I think of the Avengers its usually Thor,Wonder Man,Iron Man and then Vision for pure strength and prowess.
I checked out Kalark on Marvels website a while back and was amazed to see how powerful he was. Even with the dodgy pose :)
I'm told Sentry was a similar deal being so powerful he unbalanced the MU until they killed him off.
Only ever read a couple of his appearances and was slightly confused. Sentry/Bob/the Void ?
I prefer poses that dont obscure the face but Longshot doesnt appear to be as bad as Kalark.
I prefer the blue Grem, looking at her sculpt again made me appreciate the detail a little better. Wish she was facing the other way with her head twisted back looking over her shoulder.
What a bum ! Shame for it to be wasted :)
Hmm yeah now you mention it, I was expecting some blue in her costume. Is there a red costume I'm not aware of or is it just an error? :P
My guess would be that it's an error. All her recent costumes have been either all black or black with the blue patches. Never seen the red at all. Hopefully the release date is far enough away and it's a simple matter of changing the colour. Nothing major.
Looks brown to me, same colour as her eyes and lipstick
Yay, a surprise update!!
Love both Domino and Longshot!!!!!1
Longshot looks superb, a superb effort!
Domino I just hope the painters do the sculpt justice, pose aside like or not I hope we don't just end up with another rush job!
Marvel very nice indeed!
Dan any news regarding updating Sifs shoulder pads if at all?
Thanks for the update Dan,it was short, but sweet.
The art for the Photon cover looks nice, can hardly wait to have her,Mockingbird, and Swordsman added to my Avengers line-up.
The Longshot sculpt looks better than the sketch did, hope the paint job makes it look even better.
Wasn't really thinking of purchasing Domino, but after seeing this sneak peek, thing just might change.
I forgot to add Stingray to those I'm ansious to see in my Avengers' shelf,I find his costume's design is quite unique and outstanding.
I had fallen behind in my acquiring figurines from this collection for awhile but in the past few weeks thanks to a swell seller I met in the internet I've caught up and am up to date(except as I mentioned before, needing Scarlet Spider and The Kingpin special). Last batch I received included Beta Ray Bill (GREAT SCULPT),Balder,Prowler,Destiny and Cannonball.
Thank you Dan.
Longshot looks good & I'm not a fan of the character one way or the other. With all of the talk about Sif's boobs it is nice to see you remember Longshot is a guy.
Forge cover looks good.
Photon colored cover looks good. Looking at the different covers sketched I like the second one best but that does not mean the settled choice is not good. I seem to remember her costume was a stark black & white contrast. I never liked that they originally named her Captain Marvel as that name was obviously already taken.
Not a fan of Domino either but I still don't like the pose. At first it looked like she was having sex with her guns now it looks like she does not know what to do with them.
Longshot looks a great figurine. I do worry about the face and just the overal lack of any character in it. It looks like a mannequin. Could have done with a wry smirk and a bit of glamour like Enchantress, but can imagine how hard it is to get detail in these small faces, Just feel it lets it down abit. Also, as Gremlin pointed out, should she be all blue? Should the red/brown bits be a darker/lighter blue?
Ok, Longshot sculpt looks great in that pose, proved me wrong. I still would have preferred another pose, but cant complain about the quality of it. I just hope it transitions well into the painting phase.
Forge cover looks ok. Not overly excited, but maybe with colour it will pop. I like the painted look on Photon's cover art, although looking at the previews would have preferred the 3rd one down. The boobs and afro do look abit odd.
Thanks for the update. I wouldnt expect results to be so soon after the deadline, as long as we dont have to wait too long for them. The suspense may kill off some of our older collectors. ;)
PHOTON
I find all of the covers absolutely beautiful. Some of the best in-up images ever seen of this great character. Great stuff.
DOMINO
While it is a very good sculpt, and I praise the details, I am totally indifferent to the character - what she is, what she does and what she looks like.
A Domi NO for me. Will buy the fig purely for completism.
LONGSHOT
An excellent rendition of the character, pretty much as if he's just come out of the comic page. I don't get the comments about his pose. He's an Eighties boy, and all the androgynous fashion and mannerisms that come with it. I'm sure he's gonna look fab once it's painted.
*Typo
Of course I meant some of the best pin-up images of Photon.
nice update Dan , thanks
Longshot? Have to admit that I've never even heard of Longshot, but the photos do make me wish that the attention to detail on the straps etc that have been so painstakingly created would transpose onto the final molded figurines :-( Excellent work.
Domino looks fantastic too, but agree with previous comments that the face could make this piece look awful if artists are not kept topped up with their caffine intake!
Thanks for the update Dan.
Photon is a very ugly figure, I really don't like her.
Domino is nice but in the wrong pose.
I suspect that a certain customiser that i know will remove her arms and reposition them.
Longshot looks like a 1980's new romantic.
I dislike the character but the figure looks nice.
lol still not fooling anyone.
Just had a mess around in GIMP and rotated Dominos face to see why it looked so odd.
Left Iris missing as others have noted but the space in the black is misaligned too as this pic shows.
If you are reading this Dan/Rich is this an oversight ? And what hope for customer copies ?

And no I dont have anything better to do :P
Im realy suprised at how many people are on here saying they havn't heard of this character or that one when they have been around for years, but are quite forthright in giving there opinion on which character should be done from a certain era or which costume from a character with a 40 year history when they only know the last few years well
not a judgement just a comment
Dominmo and Longshot both look well made but as usual with the x characters visualy unimpressive due to the costumes being so bland
@ THE TOON. is domino not winking?
Maybe thats what it is :) Maybe I'm being a tad over critical.
Not knowing the character at all I wouldnt have a clue if thats something she does in the books.
C'mon Dan spill the beans.
In the next extension is there any chance of us finally seeing a member of The Squadron Supreme/Sinister,The original Zodiac,or The Soviets Super Soldiers finally included in this collection?
"Im realy suprised at how many people are on here saying they havn't heard of this character or that one when they have been around for years, but are quite forthright in giving there opinion on which character should be done from a certain era or which costume from a character with a 40 year history when they only know the last few years well."
I have thought the same many a time. And when you see the results of some of the polls on the forum, well, it's clear a lot of folk on there don't know their Kang from their Krang and just vote for what - in their eyes - looks pretty. It's depressing.
P.S. Thor8, surely, SURELY, the next extension is going to see one of the Warriors Three?!?? I mean, look at the some of the characters we've had so far and still no sign of Hogun, Fandrall or Volstagg. Incredible.
Vanguard or Ursa Major could be cool looking figurines. I would love to have the Warriors provided they were in tune with Thor and Enchantress in costume rather than Balder.
I chose the Sif pic based on pure looks rather than history. You should get on the forum and voice your opinion on the next one Robert. You might influence the outcome too.
"Vanguard or Ursa Major could be cool looking figurines. I would love to have the Warriors provided they were in tune with Thor and Enchantress in costume rather than Balder."
Hear, hear. Couldn't agree more.
"You should get on the forum and voice your opinion on the next one Robert."
Yeh, like that would be a popular move.
Howdy guys! I returned from holiday yesterday a tired man. Also an injured one after slipping over by the hot tub and doing my foot in. Great huh.
But coming home to a new update is always nice and was able to cheer me up a bit. So let's get to it.
Domino looks really nice. I too worry however that the paint job on her face could ruin the figure. Seeing as Domino was the top choice on one of the polls, could you please make sure that the paint job is handled with extra care EM? Otherwise I can see loads of people really upset with their choice being done really bad.
Longshot looks ok, I still think it wasn't the best pose for him but I'm sure I can live with it.
The Forge and Photon covers look good too. Nothing much else to say about those to be honest, nothing extraordinary yet it's not bad at the same time.
Before I take my leave I would like to share with you all the Marvel goodies I came across on my way home yesterday. We stopped by in Glastonbury and when I popped into The Works I came across 7 Marvel books, all of which featuring classic stories including 'The Death Of Captain Stacy'. Of course I bought them all, there were 2 Spider-Man books, 2 Fantastic Four, 2 X-Men and 1 Hulk book. All great stuff yes but the real prize was yet to come!
As I was leaving the shop, in the corner was a big red box with the following words on the front:
'THE MARVEL VAULT'
'A Museum-In-A-Book with rare collectibles from the World of Marvel'
Inside this delightful finding, there was a lot of Marvel information from the 1940s-present. It featured stories, covers, photos and many laminated rare treasures including a Christmas card from 1965 featuring The Thing, Marvel stamps from the 70s and even sketches from the early 1940s of the Sub-Mariner! There is so much in this beauty to please any Marvel fan :)
SV
I dont get it Robert, have you had run-ins with anyone over there ?
Polite disagreement is what forums are all about :)
btw where did Beast go ?
I have seen the Marvel Vault on hols in the States and its a beautiful book for sure. Nice haul SV :)
Welcome back Kirl, hope your foot recovers quickly, but at least you have your edition of Marvel Vault to help you ease the pain. I own a copy of this book and it truly is a prize posesion. My son gave it to me for my birthday awhile back and many of it's features brought back found memories of my childhood and the begining of my collecting days.
WOW,how could I have forgotten my faithful comrades in arms when I mentioned some of the teams that have nt been represented yet in this collection. I hope you're right Robert, and that we do finally get one of The Warriors Three in the next extension, along with Hyperion or Dr.Sepctrum from the Squadron and Libra or Scorpio from The Zodiac and Vanguard,Darkstar,or Red Guardian from the Soviet SS. We should also get some more classic villians from the many still to be depicted.
Hey TooN & Robert I just realized I never told you the answer to the riddle: What is t your wife wears that everyone can see it but you? The answer is "HER WIDOWS DRESS!
Thanks for the kind words Thor8, only remember I am SV, not Kirl haha ;)
But yeah the Marvel Vault is an amazing masterpiece. It allows me to look at the awesome pieces of work that existed before I even did! I am certainly proud to have spent my money on it.
Kirl...I mean SV ;)
Love everything except the Forge cover. Looks nothing like him. Looks like a character from a bad 70's movie. Covers seem to be hit or miss for me. Most are great but some are horrible (Dazzler was a miss magazine and figure)
I'm very bitter over the Dazzler figure. My favorite character. Anyone know any other figures sculpted by this artist? Curious.
It's a long and not terribly interesting series of things over a lengthy period of time, Toon. I also object in principle to the forum voting for characters. Even accepting the unproven notion that the forum is representative of CMFC collectors, I shake my head at the whole idea of collectors who have limited or no knowledge of individual characters or, indeed, the MU as a whole, deciding on who gets included and which incarnation. I'd rather see someone like Thor8, who knows the MU REALLY well, having a say instead of a slightly-informed majority. Democracy is all fine and well but it's a bit like asking a group of fifteen-year-old girls who the best band in the history of music is. They'll confidentaly say something like JLS and then, when the only well-informed member of the group asks, "What about about the Beatles or Led Zeppelin?", the girls all chirp, "Who are they...?"
Point taken ;)
'But' if no long term readers speak up and influence the crowd with knowledge and accurate history its going to be a long hard road for the likes of you,Thor...and me to a small extent :)
I'm all for a mix in honesty, I really like CMFC Drax but I never read anything in his old guise. I did read older Infinity Watch 'and' more modern Gamora appearances but prefer the classic look.
Some disappointments for both camps are to be expected, it need to be balanced to keep us all buying.
Got to disagree with you regarding super groups Roberto.....
What about the Bay City Rollers?
Come on!
Sugar bay love, sugar baby love............
Now I see why you hid away and built your bunker, sorry loft!
You're the diplomat I never was, Toon, but where's the balance in having classic Warlock, classic Thanos, classic Moondragon, classic Gamora and modern Drax? Or classic Thor, classic Enchantress and modern Balder?
Balder is a nice piece of art IMO. He is well sculpted well painted(at least the one I have is)and overall a good looking figurine,he would make an excellent piece for one of those swords & sorcery games, but when I place him along my Thor,Enchantress,or Beta Ray Bill figurines he could pass as any generic asgardian. I've had friends replying when asked: "This is Thor, this is Enchantress, this is Beta Ray,who's this?" or "Is this Balder"? I just hpe Sif will look more like Sif after she's painted. (Wish they at least get rid of those shoulder pads.)
@Robert..............after reading that its 8-2 in favour of classics :P
Maybe EM will do another 6 modern incarnations now.......eeek!
Don't joke about things like that, Toon!
This does raise the issue of display again, though. I find it rather surprising that many people don't seem fussed at all about the clash of different eras. I like the idea of the classic Starlin Warlock era or Simonson Thor era being represented on my shelf. I can't do that with Drax the Knife-Thrower or Boring Balder, the Non-Shining One.
Word verification: fluct.
Precisely.
Gotta agree with you guys, bizarre that collectors havent even heard of some of these characters. Not as if these are brand new, modern characters either.
Is this a bad sign for the collection, or represent the collectors in bad light?
ROFL at the word verification :)
Given the choice I would be more than happy to buy redo's to complete classic teams in original costumes. Same deal with Gamora for Annihilation era GotG.
I have just put my first ever custom order in with Archangel who is AMAZING. Mad Jim Jaspers and a Perez Beast to complete a 70's Avengers plinth. I do want matching sets and am happy to pay for them via custom route if EM dont fancy redo's. (yet)
@LAWay - I think it depends entirely on when and how long you were/are actively buying/reading.
I read a fair bit of Marvel from the mid 70's to early 80's all be it weekly/monthly UK reprints. I only recently started again when my son was old enough to appreciate Super Hero Squad toys.
Those toys got me loving Marvel all over again but I cant see value in graphic novels/tpb's for a single read so have been sparing on modern stuff.
Added to that is the fact I dont want to spend an hour in the car to be able to browse/buy US imports.
If my local newsagent or local supermarkets stocked US comics it might be a different story.
My lack of knowledge came from growing up and moving away from home. My dear old Mum paid for all my comics and when the bills were mine comics paid the price.
I now have a 30 year gap but it doesnt mean I dont love the CMFC to bits and will stop buying through character ignorance.
Has anyone tried to modify Balder? I was thinking that if I removed his cape - like I did with the Black Panther - and then repainted him, it would be a passable imitation.
Gold arms and leggings to his boots, of course.
WE NEED Redo's to complete classic teams in original costumes
hello Thor8
Just to let you know, I saw your request for Zodiac in my virtual gallery. It's in my plans. I'm still catching up with other requests (complete Starjammers, Thunderbolts and Squadron Supreme among others) but I'll definitely tackle the Zodiac, hoping that the virtual figs will persuade EM that we need more representatives for all these Marvel teams.
Apologies Victor but I believe that we don't NEED to have redo's. I know the point you are making and I know you want to have a classic team in their classic costumes but it is just a personal want you have. You may want this, many other folk may want this and there will also be those that won't want this.
For me, as much as I would like to have seen characters like Beast, Rogue and Mystique made in different costumes, I would rather give up the space for characters we don't have yet and cover more of the MU more quickly. I am shouting out for the Warriors Three!
SV
I just got my Balder figure & I like it. I know there are those that don't like this modern look which actually looks more old world with the fur cape when Balder & the Asgardians in the older comics dressed in more futuristic garb. As I was looking at Balder I noticed his tunic & leggings & armings changed in color scheme though his cape was usually white but not white fur. Sometimes it was totally different in look to the point of extreme but his cape was still white. With the Warriors Three however their costumes looked much the same. Fandral in his all green outfit with a touch of fur around his collar & shoulders with green gloves & boots & his sword. Hogun in a dark blue outfit with mace & fur hat with horns. Volstagg with his massive pink tunic & tiny helmet with three yellow feathers on top & orange gloves. Of course Volstagg's massive size means he would have to be a Special but I would much rather they have a Special three pack issue for the Warriors Three. I would buy it.
SV - You could argue the same about not NEEDING any certain character proposed in any future line-up. Alot wont care for some characters, others will.
Toon - Maybe its my generation, being open to all so many comic titles on a monthly basis, as well as all the cartoon shows, action figures, video games, collectible cards etc Perhaps nowadays Marvel throw more stuff at its fans than before so its easier to grow accustomed to the wider spectrum of characters.
Thats why I am shocked at characters that I dont know, or havent heard of in a long time, because the if marvel havent pushed them in all the merchandising they produce, I simply imagine that Marvel dont consider that character of much value.
My own views on it though.
Quick response mainly for Robert.
I have been out of commission for a shortwhile due to an eye injury.
Domino's arms definately need repositioning, you can't see her boobs.
Longshot looks better than I thought.
Robert, buy some Super sculpey firm in preparation for your Balder resculpt and repaint.
To remove pieces from models I use wire cutters and snips, a bone saw and various sizes and chapes of files.
Be patient this will take a little while to do.
After you've filed him down and removed all the unneccessary bits dip him in detol for a few days to remove the paint.
Alternatively you can peel off the paint using a modeling knife but you need to be careful.
When the model is stripped and cleaned, fill in the gaps in his back, neck and shoulders using super sculpey firm.
You can also accessorise at this point too if you want to add extra detail.
Then bake him in an oven for 20 minutes at 130 celsius to bake the Super Sculpey Firm clay.
Take the model from the oven immediately after 20 minutes so you dont over cook the clay.
Then you need to allow him to cool, give him another quick clean and then get ready to paint him.
If some of the accessories fell off during hte modeling process remember to drill and pin them back on and glue them with superglue.
I use black acrylic spray paint as the undercoat.
I then "dry brush" the entire model with white acrylic to highlight the details.
To paint the model work from inside to out. Face and flesh first followed by clothes then armour and weapons.
I use a combination of Tamiya, Vallejo and GW paints.
Stick to matt paints for realism.
Order of painting is : -
Base colour,
Inked or thinned colour for shade.
Highlight colour
Final detailing.
Optional final wash.
Matt varnish for clothes.
Satin varnish dry brush to hair and metal bits.
24 - 48 hour later you'll have a bright and shiny new Balder.
Good luck.
Cya later and thanks to my harem - the Shi-Devil who will be posting this message, and Hel for keeping my seat warm on the blog.
Cheers, DP. I had a helluva time removing BP's cape and was a bit wary of taking on the same job with Balder. That seemed the biggest issue with this conversion. I'm not nuts about the pose, either. I know it's supposed to look like he's withdrawing the sword, but I can't help feeling he's putting it away because he can't be bothered...
i think its worth mentioning that EVERYONE was once new to the MU, so to criticise people for wanting figurines that look good is a bit harsh.
Wow, you have a great blog CMFG.
Listen my fellow comic book enthusiast, when you have a moment or two to spare - check out my site - http://www.comicbookandmoviereviews.com - as I would love to know your opinion on my wares.
Follow - like - +1 - tweet - digg - whatever you fancy really, as it would be great to have you on board.
All the best blogging buddy.
@ DAN THE MAN, nice update, do you think it would be possible for you to post on here the top 10 best selling CMFC figurines of all time, just curious to know who's running away with the "lead". thanks.
Harsh but fair.
Last time I went to buy a motorbike I was shown around the Honda dealership by a kid who looked as if he'd bunked off school for the afternoon. Didn't have answers to most of my questions and I had no confidence in his opinion. So I left, unsure what to buy.
The following week I was shown around by an old-timer who explained everything with concise and precise explanations. Him, I listened to. Four years on, I still have my Honda Shadow and I'm still very happy with it.
Of course, it wasn't the boy's fault he was new and inexperienced, but the old hand was clearly the man to talk to. From some of the daft voting on the forum, it's clear that while many of the folk on there are well-meaning and enthusiastic, they don't know Iron Man's arse from Spider-Man's elbow.
so i dont have the right to enter the comp & pick stardust as im new to MU.. should i sit back & let another person win & possibly end up with another bland looking figurine??
as far as costume polls go & the forum i stay well clear, but i think i as a newbie to the MU have just as much right to enter the comp & hope for a figurine that looks the part. i took a little offence to the earlier posts criticising people for wanting good looking figurines.
Not really talking about the comp, which is a one-off thing and independent of the forum.
I'm complaining about folk voting on Drax when all they know is the Annihilation era or voting for Balder in modern dress when they have read two Thor comicbooks. How is that informed voting?
I'm sorry you took offense but picking something just on looks rather than history, etc. is just plain wrong. 'Porn Sif' looks nice but it ain't a very good likeness of Sif. I suppose if someone doesn't know a character from Adam Warlock, their default setting is going to be what looks good, but, still, it's like having to stand back and watch a child poke about in an electric socket with a knife. You just know it will end badly. That's how I feel when the forum run a poll.
@ ROBERT, oh i get you, im with you on costumes.. if 4 out of 5 in a team have classic costume it seems strange to have the 5th in modern etc. apologies for the misunderstanding. just out of curiosity whats your thoughts on stardust ?
No problem, Jinx. I, ahem, do crash about on here. ;)
Are you talking about Stardust, the Galactian Herald? (I used to buy Rom as Sal B was on the art, and I seem to recall there was someone in that with the same name. But I may be getting mixed up again.) Not top of my list of Heralds but, yep, I'd go for that. Where did he first appear?
yes robert the stardust from heralds of galactus, i think it would make a unique looking figurine
it says 1st appearance in saga of beta ray bill
Oh. I have that comic. (He says sheepfully.) Will dig it out later to refresh my memory. Thanks, Jinx.
my 1st choice would of been anti-venom followed closely by rocket racoon, but ive been told nay to both :)
ive been meaning to start reading comics robert, but where to start... so many to choose from. my 1st comic i got was only a week ago, it came free with a dc figurine i bought, its titled - Batman arkham city, breaking ground issue 2 of 5 - i enjoyed it :)
Pity you don't live nearby, Jinx. I'd just let you loose in my loft and supply you with hourly cups of tea and occasional bowls of toffee-flavoured ice cream. :)
My generation of UK readers were very lucky. We bought UK reprint titles that cherry-picked five or six classic comicbooks every week. My very first comic had Gil Kane and John Romita, Kirby and Heck. Soon to be followed by John Buscema, Ditko, etc. The best of the very best from the start of the Marvel Age. It blew my mind every week and was the best imaginable start for a new reader.
@ ROBERT, i'd gladly dip in lead if it meant i could stay in your loft :), your loft is amazing (scratches head thinking.. how to convince my household to let me pimp out my loft :). at the moment my marvel & dc figurines are crammed in a room 5metres long & 2metres wide, its getting plastered in a week ( covered in dreadfull artex patterns at the minute ) so i'l be buying 5 or 6 ikea class cabinets to display them all after the plastering
ive been told ikea sell the perspex risers too at a good price so i'l be investing in alot of those too.
JinxDealer
Stardust is awesome. Hope you win!
Your other choices: Danger is great; and while A-Bomb is cool, he does not qualify for the comp as it'd have to be a special.
Stardust would look awesome in the CMFC but I only know the Annihilation look. (Ducks)

Sitting on my desk right now are Mighty World of Marvel 201 through 275, 1976-1978. I bought them off Ebay 2 or 3 years ago on a whim as none of mine survived. Just got them down off the top of the wardrobe to show my nipper.
He said...ewww black and white Daddy ? He did like the covers!
Strips include Hulk, Avengers, Daredevil, Conan, Luke Cage Hero for Hire, Fury & the Howling Commandos, Captain Marvel, Planet of the Apes & Dracula.
I will try reading him some at bedtime and see how he gets on.
Not Dracula obviously...:P
Teach him right eh Robert :)
@ BLAKENEWMAN, thanks stardust caught the eye while looking through the virtual CMFC :). i think he'l look awesome & will certainly not get overlooked in a crowd. is anyone else on here prepared to say who they'l pick? ps draken & hate monger look awesome.. i was tempted. the virtual CMFC is great for showing the likes of me who's still out there just waiting to be made.
*she
stardust , i'd like the same sort of colouring & look as in the virtual CMFC. obviously the pose will be different but i'd like the "tail" etc to be highly visible. @ THE TOON, who would be your winners choice ?
I'm proud of you, Toon. :)
And I totally understand your son's reaction. On the rare occasions I show my wife b&w artwork she seems to consider it harder work to understand what's happening than when she's looking at colour stuff. But my generation grew up with the b&w art and I still prefer it for the Andru Spideys. Your son will develop a better appreciation of what's great and what's merely very good by looking at the b&w art as well as the colour art.
I only entered a couple of days ago and only so I could say I tried :)
I would love to see one of the original Guardians of the Galaxy in the CMFC but unsure of which.
Starhawk and Yondu are the 2 most likely to have a chance of getting in on their own but Martinex could be good too if EM took him as a chance to cast in clear resin. (if such a thing is possible remembering Mutes Invisible Woman)
Check out Blakes gallery as they are all there. Or this set of mini Busts that I saw in Zombula's sig.

@Robert - Couple of nights back I read him an Avengers story from Marvel Superheroes (1979) where Graviton lifted an entire city up in the sky. Thor fought him while the others were trying to escape aided by the Panther. Classic memory and he really enjoyed it.
Didnt want to go to sleep after though and the missus said she thought it was a bit violent !
God love her :)
@ THE TOON, i'd be happy with any of those 3, be interesting to see if clear resin could be incorporated..
http://www.mutemonster.com/
Amazing customs and check out the clear Sue 2/3 down.
Sure that was some kind of resin but think it had some issues.
i wish i didnt have the worst browser EVER.. i copy & search ( no results ).. stupid games console browser
Classic story, Toon. Lovely sequence where you see Graviton's hands shape a huge ball that he fires at the Assemblers. (Good ol' Sal Buscema.)
Oh, and explain to the wifey that he didn't want to go to sleep because it was EXCITING! "Too violent"! Honestly! Wimmin! Next thing they'll be wanting the vote...
A man after my own heart :) Us 40 somethings remember a whole different world.
Wont the browser search at all Jinx ?
Never tried browsing through anything other than a PC. I am ashamed to say technology is beginning to leave me behind. I'm still using a Samsung handset from about 2006. It phones and texts and I cant see what else I would want to do with a phone.
Very happy just playing games on the 360 and my PS3 drive died meaning its just a glorified media streamer now.
I hate getting old.
@ THE TOON, its the sony console you mentioned its seriously useless, i type mutemonster.com & get a few million results.. non on the 1st pages are the actual site lol. heck it doesnt even let me check my emails. i need my laptop back up & running :)
Mighty World of Marvel. aah the memories.
Have had my eye on some Rampages off Ebay a few times but never comitted two buying them.
Might go and have another look now, I have gone all nostalgic...
Any comic that can start with Andru Spideys, move effortlessly onto Tuska Iron Man, follow it up with Romita senior Cap, throw in some Kirby Thor and then top the lot off with some early Marvel Two-In-One Tales has gotta be something special!
Ahhh, Marvel Uk reprint titles.
Still trying to get a pic of Mutes Sue

Ah..CGJ, 'Rampage'- what a blast from the past that is. Classic whole repros of The Defenders, plus the Nova back-up feature...sheds watery tear from lost childhood memories...magical stuff.
I'm a bit behind the times on this, but I've just had a go at the comp, wasn't going to bother at first, but really enjoyed it once I started...hope you guys wont mind a certain swash-buckling, sci-fi type with a serious anti-Martian attitude if I win! :)
Agree with you Toon, both Yondu and Starhawk would make excellent additions at this stage (has Vance Astro been confirmed yet?..there was a lot of talk about him, but I can't remember if anything came of it). The original GOTG are some of the very few remaining Silver Age heroes yet to be made- and all have classic costume design.
New additions... Spiral was very welcome, although I had to unbend a sword or two...but very uninspired by Siryn- who could have been anybody in that boring choice of costume...win some, lose some I guess.
Sound like Odin isn't far away...have to do some rearranging to fit the Big Guy in!
BD
Vance is confirmed in the 181-200 extension. Hope he can be joined by others before time runs out. If not it will be time for more customs.
Funny, as we reminisced earlier about old UK comicbooks I thought at one point, "You know, Robert, Bob would enjoy this". And, lo and behold, the old sentimental softy is back! Come over here and give us all a manly hug, ya big girl's blouse!
"A certain swash-buckling, sci-fi type with a serious anti-Martian attitude"? Wouldn't have used those words myself to describe the Recorder, but I won't mind if you win, Bob....
I didnt have the foggiest who that was from Bobs description. And would never have known him at all if not for the Blog. Does he have a modern look ? (ducks again)
@ THE TOON.. now i get what you meant by "ducks" lol i thought you meant stardust looks like a duck. :) oh what a doofus i am..
oh & nice to have the chatty crowd back too, i love reading your debates & discussions & im slowly learning some MU history as a go along.
Jinx, go and goggle Daredevil Vol. 1 #127. I reread it tonight and it has a lovely Gil Kane-Klaus Janson (I think) cover.
Odin: specially divine
Yes, I got the Odin special today. Let me tell you, it's absolutely magnificent. In my opinion, one of the best figs ever produced by EM.
The sculpt has amazing pose and details, exquisitely painted. He's not too big, not at all. Place him next to Thor, Balder and Beta Ray Bill, and he simply looks godly... as he should. One of the best 3D renditions of a classic Marvel character, very near perfection.
Kudos to EM and their artists.
i think ive found it robert, is it titled "You Killed That Man Torpedo, And Now You're Going To Pay!"
You just reminded me of another title there Robert 'Daredevils'.
Alan Moores Captain Britain run and frank Millers daredevil in one magazine if I recall correctly
Jinx. That't it. I first read it in b&w and, to me, it's still better that way. Janson's inks over the under-rated Bob Brown are just gorgeous. I was so disappointed when Brown died in 1977. (Sooooooo, what did you think of the cover?)
CGJ, the UK reprint titles reprinted some of the greatest stories several times in a matter of a few years. Miller's DD was one of those given this treatment. And, let's face it, it's impossible to argue with that! Never bought Daredevils, although I was certainly aware of it. I remember the first time the DD vs. Hulk story was reprinted in the UK, a good while before Daredevils, and thinking it was just amazing. Compared to other comics, the realism was just incredible. That was the story that made me realise just how brilliant Frank Miller was.
@ ROBERT, i like the cover very much (its coloured) some real nice art work their, i wonder how long it takes to do a cover. after reading the issue summary its described as a must buy & that the ending is a true masterpiece & like no other ( though to fully appreciate i must read126 1st ). Soooo i may go see if i can find it on ebay, thanks robert
Loved Daredevils ! Probably my favourite 'ever' Marvel story was Captain Britain against Mad Jim and The Fury.
The cold killing power of the machine really hit me as young lad and the artwork was so different from anything I had ever read.
Jim/Fury fight scene was jaw dropping and still stands up well to anything I have seen recently.
I still have the original UK monthlies boxed away for posterity.
Cant wait to show off Archangels Mad Jim Jaspers custom which is looking fantastic.
Still not sure what to do about Fury as he needs to be big and I cant think of a suitable base figurine.
Its been a nice couple of days getting misty eyed reminiscing of my golden age of comic reading.
Such a shame Marvel UK has been dumped on by Disney.
If that had happened back then imagine what we could be missing today from Marvel/DC's British artists/writers.
It's a great story mainly because of how it ends, Jinx. Didn't know it was considered a "masterpiece" but can't argue with that assessment. A classic Bronze Age story with gorgeous art and a surprisingly 'modern' and self-aware ending. I guess that proves that the DD comicbook did realism even before Miller arrived.
The 1970s was a golden age for covers. Gil Kane and John Romita senior drew many, many wonderful covers. Have a look at, um, Jungle Action #5. It's a reprint issue, although the cover is a JR original. Just beautiful.
Maybe I should start posting up a daily classic cover on my blog (which I've been ignoring of late)? In fact, I am changing my loft display today. Jinx, name a title and period (post 1972-ish to present) and I'll make a wall display for you. Titles can be Avengers (including WCA), Captain A, DD, FF, Hulk, Iron Man, Marvel Team-Up, Marvel Two-In-One, Spidey (Amazing, Spectac, Web), Thor or Warlock.
"Such a shame Marvel UK has been dumped on by Disney.
If that had happened back then imagine what we could be missing today from Marvel/DC's British artists/writers."
Excellent point.
And very scarey, too...
Or I could do you an "artist display" - like a selection of Kane covers - or a "character display" - say, Thanos?
Did someone mention SOVIET SUPER SOLDIERS ?
Well You may all just get a pleasant surprise if I win the competition !!
Ah robert you are a legend my man, im quite familiar with with hulk, fantastic 4, & iron man so you have full control to suprise & amaze the socks off me with your display :). in reference to customs im going to try my 1st one soon, i got hawk from the dc blackest night but all his wing things got snapped off in the mail so im going to have a shot at converting him into anti-venom ( OR ANY SUITABLE SUGGESTIONS FEEL FREE TO JUMP IN) using something called miliput (under £3 & sets without oven baking )
& if my custom turns out good i may venture on as i have duplicates of a few figurines.. 3 spare gallactos, 3 spare juggernaut, 3 spare wolverines. a spare iron man special & 1 spare of every issue upto 100
Okay, Jinx, thinking I might do an MTU display, as I saw they are collecing all the Claremont-Byrne issues together and they were all great fun.
Like you, when it comes to clay, I also prefer the stuff that dries when exposed to air, rather than faffing about with ovens. Good luck with the conversion.
Why did you buy multiples...?
oh as i was collecting i found 10 packs etc on ebay so i ended up gettin the odd figurine twice, then a few weeks back i checked ebay under the category marvel legends & found something described as "large collection of toys" it was issue 1-100 plus 12 specials. i paid a little over £100 with the intention of saving for re sale in 10 or 20 years time.
MTU display sounds awesome robert i'l look forward to seeing it my friend. which clay do you use robert?
Okay, MTU it is. Don't own the first five issues mind you. (Yet.)
Clay? Um, can't remember the name, Jinx. Been too long. All I know was it came in rectangular lumps and turned white when dry. Even the shop I bought the stuff from closed years ago. Yep, no getting away from the facts: I'm old and getting older.
Now, what's that pesky word verification? Can't see a thing without my reading glasses. Sure I left them next to my lumbago pills and this week's Racing Post...
ah you crack me up robert, what a pleasant atmosphere on the blog these days.. until the next costume debate starts atleast :)
I keep dangling the bait but he's not biting atm :P
I'm TRYING to be calm, you two! "Modern cosumes" indeed!
Sounds like the internet equivalent of 'chappie', the stupid game where kids chap the doors of pensioners and run away. However, I've made up my mind not to get out of this chair until I find out how much an old Etruscan snood goes for on "Cash in the Attic"...
HEAT WAVE & its nearly october !!! 28 degrees C according to my thermometer, a slight chance i may return to find my CMFC just pools of lead...
So you think everything is pleasant here on the blog lately jinx? Well I've been meaning to ask a question here for some time that just might cause a bit of a stir (although that is not my intention). The question is what do you fellow bloggers think about Namora winning the Golden Age Character Poll? I ask because most of the votes she got were from fans whom know her only for her mordern appearances, and now want her to be made in her modern costume. I beleive that being this a poll for a GOLDEN AGE HERO,the character chosen should be based on that characters golden age qualities,so if Namora is to be the one, then she shuld be made in the costume she wore durring that era,if not she represents the golden age as much as Namor or Captain America do in this collection.
What do the rest of you think?
if you have a poll for a golden age character, to represent the golden age, then you can hardly then insist that it is done in a modern costume
Forum: default setting is MODERN, MODERN, MODERN. Surely you have realised this by now, Thor8?
P.S. I'd have liked the Whizzer - memorable Avengers tales in the '70s - or the original Human Torch/ Jim Hammond. What will we get? Another half-naked woman with over-sized jugs. Another big surprise...
Archangel just finished off my Mad Jim Jaspers custom so heres a link.
Also check out FF Doom !!
Guy is a genius !

blogspot.com/
I dont really want anyone from Golden age tbh Thor.
From Memory I went with Whizzer in the poll from the single issue of Invaders I remember having as well as the classic cover that alays doing the rounds.
I would have liked to see The Whizzer,Miss America,Original Torch,The Vision or Blazing Skull. In fact they should do The original Angel, whom along with that era's big three had the longest run of appearances in Timely's comics and appeared in their very first book 'Marvel Comics' #1.
Golden Age themed poll. Nothing said about thats how they should be represented.
Afterall, Cap isnt in his 'golden age' look now is he? :P
The golden age design is pretty rubbish too, why would you want a figurine of that? :P
@ THOR8. lol even that hasn't done the trick. i think she should ( in my opinion ) be in classic costume/look.
Very impressive, Toon. Mad Jim Jaspers looks great. I'm curious, what does Archangel do for a job...?
Thor8, if most people who voted in the forum poll don't even know Drax from pre-Annihilation appearances, what chance have you of collectors knowing Venus from her Golden Age appearances? Leigh is right. There was no stipulation that the Golden Age character should in Golden Age togs. So, it was inevitable we'd get an updated version.
@Robert Im retail area manager mate. And thanks for the comment
If you don't mind me saying, that's a bit like asking Beethoven to mow lawns. He'd probably make a lovely job of it, but something of a waste of his talents.
Hahaha the painting is just a hobby i enjoy coming home getting the kids all settled and tuning out to the wifes soaps by painting a figure. I think if i done it for a career id loose the passion for it.
Thanks for the comments though its always great to get feedback :)
Ah, the "tuning out to the wife's soaps" sounds familiar! The second biggest myth known to man: "the man of the house controls the remote control for the telly". Complete nonsense. (The biggest myth is "the good old days".)
Reckon we'll get an update today, or would that be spoiling us? ^_^
Should do Dan said see you friday ;)
Plus comp ends today so even a update on that, not a winner announcement or anything but just even listing the figures that were in the eaglemoss mash up or something. That and im dying to see some more artist propossed sketches i think there just as intresting as the figures there selves.
