Hello everyone,
Richard here this week with pictures of Lady Sif and details about the competition, which begins today and ends on 30th September.
So, first things first, here are the images of the Lady Sif sculpt. As you can see we've gone for quite a dynamic pose – she has her sword but it is in a position we've not done before. (It's amazing how many of these little figures actually have swords.) I think this is a fantastic figure and will look stunning next to the Enchantress.
Right now on to the competition.
Competition Details:
Last Monday I came into the office and caught Art Editor Dan Rachael with a miniature hacksaw, a tube of glue and a crazy look in his eyes. As I approached his desk, all I could hear was muttering about ‘the ultimate competition’ and ‘the bloggers will take me seriously now’. Before I could make it to the door – in a desperate bid to call security – he produced the below monstrosity from under his desk.
This my fellow bloggers is the hideous jigsaw man/woman-thing that Dan created, rather than going home for the weekend. Nicknamed the CMFC Warrior, the figure is made from 14 sculpts and your task is to name them all!
That’s right name all 14 characters that were brutalised to create the above image.
Then send me your answers to eaglemosscomp@gmail.com
Put the answers in the email, along with your name and address.
The comp will close AT MIDNIGHT GMT, 30th SEPTEMBER 2011 and I will choose a winner at random from correct answers.
I’ll then contact the winner to let them know and ask which character they want in the collection.
Rules:
One entry per email address only.
One entry per household only.
It is vital you send your name and address as winners will receive a model of their chosen character.
The character chosen must be regular-sized (a general rule is under 6’ 8”) with enough background/appearances to fill a magazine.
The character chosen should also be an original Marvel character that has not been in the collection already, so no redos.
And lastly, please remember that Marvel have the final say on all characters and costumes.
Right, that's your lot.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 279 of 279Hey guys, just a short post here now since I am going away to Somerset later for a few days and unless I find a way of posting on here over there, I may not add a post on the update (if we get one).
I have come on here to give you...
SV'S FIGURINE INSPECTION!
Today I picked up Siryn. The sculpt is very nice, the paint job is good and the figure itself is very light so most of it is resin (sorry resin haters). I think it's worth collecting though as she goes nice next to Banshee. I have Madrox on the other side of her too. Looking forward to getting Blackheart next, was so gutted when his figurine was pushed back so many issues.
Also the Siryn magazine has a leaflet advertising Odin and it also says he is released on the 22nd September. Well that was yesterday and there is no sign of him on the CMFC main site. What's going on EM?
See you all soon! :)
SV
why are some people against resin? from what i understand its good for detail ( sasquatch ), plus the p&p will be much cheaper which will be a huge bonus for overseas buyers .
I don't draw any other conclusions from the chess set than EM want to diversify and make more money, like any other company on the planet worth its salt.
However it could be that they seek to revisit some of Marvel's big hitters, which is something we have discussed before at length. I'd be more than happy seeing alternate costumes and eras of the main characters within the CMFC, although I know many are not keen.
EM have tried the chess set thing before and it failed, so the chances now with the meeja telling us every fifteen minutes we're all doooooooomed, a la Private Fraser, are slim I would have thought.
Faced with a choice of a chess set and the CMFC making issue 400 I'll go for the latter anyday of the week.
Odin is definitely in the shops...
image posted up 20 mins ago of one bought (I assume) in Wales.
Chess set idea worries me a lot. The LOTR fig collection was doing pretty well and was AFAIK EM's longest running fig partwork. They released 3 themed chess sets and the LOTR series died. now wether this is linked or simply that they ran out of LOTR ideas I don't know but a quick search on eBay means we can pick up all three LOTR sets for less than 200 notes and no waiting time :-). I just hope EM think about this; MARVEL has far more variety than LOTR and it would be a real shame for it to terminate early because of a repeat run of figs on chess bases :-( . I'm no chess-set fan so will continue to buy the figs but there are those out there who will "jump-ship" and the effect could be pretty bad on fig sales.
Sorry Grim, but you'll have to wait two weeks not one,the comp doesn't close till MIDNIGHT September 30th. So unless Rich or Dan plan to post a very early update on October 1st we have until Oct.7th to find out who the winner is(except me. Being the winner I'll be notified first he he he).
Jinx: Could be that Dan decided to take some time off to recuperate from all the sticks and stones thrown at him due to the Gamora and Shaman incidents.
@ THOR8, i think your right, its a shame i liked dans updates & he even joined in on the comments section too.
You missed the point, Leigh.
I like Cho's artwork, too. I just don't want to see a muscular, non-Sif-like Sif...
A quick question on the resin issue, for those that make custom figs, is the resin just as easy to work with or is lead better?
have any of you guys noticed the large amounts of variants apearing on ebay? .. one guy selling red phoenix but refuses to tell you the serial number then writes "i got this at a house sale & no nothing about it" then lists another 1 a week later after getting £70 + for it . another seller claiming to have a super rare green quicksilver.. super rare as it comes from france with mag & variant outer bag which he claims are all legit & make it even rarer .. shame the writing is in english on the bag lol FAIL, ive even seen him selling rooftop batman in bag with mag with all the claims as above
i think EM should investigate it to stop fans being conned
The variants made by EM in the past(with the exception of black costume Spider-Man) were all just color changes and easy to do yourself if you had extra figurines of the characters made. Maybe that's why they didn't sell so good and were discontinued. A battle armor Thor, a classic armor Iron Man,an 'ape' beast, now those are what I'd call variants!
oh,i thought they got stopped due to fan outrage from those who couldnt subscribe. i'd like different pose & costume variants but would settle happily for just different colours like the previous ones.
completely off topic here & not related to the CMFC at all.. but are their any wise heads in here who can solve riddles?, ive got one thats been bugging me for months now.
don't know about wise-heads but post it up anyway...might kill a bit of time between blog updates and comp results :-)
@ THE GRIM REAPER here go's any you guys no the answer to this riddle lol? "i am what men love more than life, fear more than death or mortal strife, what dead men have & rich require, im what contented men desire"
JinxDealer:
It's nothing. :P
Man loves nothing more than life, fears nothing more than death. Content people desire nothing, rich men require nothing and the dead have nothing. ;)
@ BECQUEREL. i would never of got that in a million years lol well done. cant believe you got it instantly :)
ok BECQUEREL try this 1 :) ... " i can fly like a bird not in the sky which can always swim & always dry, say goodbye at night & morning hi, im part of you, what am i? i follow & lead as you pass, dress yourself in black my darkness lasts, i'l flee the light but without the sun your view of me would be gone"
Your shadow.....
....God bless GOOGLE :-)
@ THE GRIM REAPER . lol your correct.
@cgj Resin not so great to work with once its set as its brittle take a knive to it and well the results are unpredictable. before its solidified its easier to shape and retains detail very well. I think this and the obvious cost is one reason why they have decided to use it. Look at games workshop they dont do nearly as many metal figures anymore as there plastic process is so good for detail.
Im sure the chess peices are all resin im sure i read that some place.
Thanks Arch, another nail in the resin coffin!
If the mad-as-a-bunch-of-frogs-buy-fifteen-of-every-fig customisers dont want the resin, think of how the sales will drop
Think the main issue is if the chess bits are resin would that change peoples minds who have already voted yes?
Certainly takes the feel of quality away from it.
A collection like that I would buy as a keepsake to last for decades, would a resin fig have that durability? Probably not.
Consider my 'Yay' a 'Nay'
would it kill the EM guys to come on here & say theirs gonna be no update today...
Perhaps they've decided it's not worth it what with the disgraceful attacks on Dan.
He was the best thing to happen on here for a very long time, so hopefully the ignorant scum who treated him so badly won't keep him away too long.
@ MGF. i think your 100% correct. its a bloody shame for the rest of us who wholeheartedly appreciated the new life the blog had taken on.
or maybe there's not much going on
Jinx: Here's one for you. What is it that your wife wears that eveyone can see it,but you cannot.
Jinx: A man goes for a ride one sunny Sunday with his son. Unfortunatly they have an accident. The man dies instantly and the boy is rushed to the hospital for emergency surgurey. Seeing the boy the doctor exclaims;"I can't operate this boy he's my son!" How do you explain this?
Thor8: I know this one. It involves Dr. Doom's time machine...
My wife says that comicbooks have wrecked my ability to think normally...
@ THOR8. i think i know the 2nd one, the doctor is his mother?
@ THOR8 , 1st one i dont have a clue.. ???
You got the 2nd one right Robert, the doctor is indeed the boy's mother.
jinx I'll give you a litle more time before I reveal the answer.
OOOPS! I meant to say you got the 2nd one correct JINX.
With all the talk about doomsday coming for the CMFC,I'm kind of woried this colection will come to an end before I see many of Thor's adversaries make it in since many of them are "special" material, such as Mangog-Ulik-Destroyer(whom I hope will be made soon)-Skurge(not too sure if he can make it as a regular)and Surtur and Ymir. Please EM consider some of these great characters for this years special slots.
Go on, Thor8, it wasn't a mistake: like me, you think the correct answer involves Doc Doom's time machine! All those Thor comicbooks have burned out your brain cells, too!
As for the collection ending, I don't know what will happen. What I will say, though, is that I am glad it started when it did (2005?). Or, rather, I am glad it's not starting now. We'd have modern Thor, Cap with belt pouches and water bottle, etc. It's bad enough we've got modern Balder, Ares, etc. but can you imagine how many classic characters would probably be made in their modern togs? For an oldie who grew up a Bronze Age Reader, it doesn't bear thinking about.
Warhammer/games workshop have started producing their figurines in resin now because of the price and how much detail it retains, so that they can slowly get rid of metal minitures.
It makes sense because of how big and heavy some models are, it will make things easier to put together.
So, if anything, I would imagine resin is easier to customize because its easier to cut through. Repaints wont offer any different problems than lead. Basically if you know what you are doing, it wouldnt matter what the figurine is made of.
I would still collect if the collection was resin.
I would still collect if the collection was resin.
Disappointed there was no update this week. I do look forward to them. Hope Dan the Man has not abandoned us.
@ THOR8 , i really dont have a clue. maybe she wears a hatred for little lead men lol???? seriously though im baffled.
It's nearly 40 weeks till confirming next extension. We don't have 40 characters in extension even with specials, so you have to accept it, we won't have an update every Friday.
Updates don't always have to be announcements about who will be in a new extension, Tomas. What about unpainted and painted sneak-peaks of sculpts? Showing drafts and the development of cover and internal art? Answering questions? Addressing concerns, i.e., use of resin? Clarifying release dates, i.e., Odin? And so on...
Tomas,
I make it 24 weeks until the next extension announcement.
I believe the current extension (181-200) was confirmed on 3 June, and logic dictates 40 weeks between such announcements.
By my calculations, it follows the next extension (if Odin wills it) will be confirmed on or around 9 March 2012.
exactly as robert says, theirs lots for them to blog about.
Even better news. It's actually only 22 weeks until the next extension announcement, according to my estimates.
Although the first figure in the 181-120 extension was announced on 3 June, the extension itself was actually announced on 20 May (I just checked the blog history).
Rolling forward 40 weeks from 20 May, takes us to 24 Feb 2012.
So, logic suggest that - if EM does give the go-ahead to a further 20 issues - it's on 24 Feb that we should learn the glorious news!
True believers - - Mark it on your calendars!!!
I'm not talking about confirming next characters. We don't have 40 characters in 181-200 extension to show scults. Answering what questions? He can answer all those few questions with showing new sculpt. This is figurine collection, I'm not interested so much in magazines. Update with just cover isn't so interesting, so better is Friday without and update and next have with unpainted or painted figurine.
Dan said he will confirm next extension when we will have #180, so it's July 2013. It's not 22 weeks, but 37.
"I'm not interested so much in magazines."
Some of us enjoy reading the magazines, though. Just because it's not your cup of Darjeeling...
"Update with just cover isn't so interesting, so better is Friday without and update and next have with unpainted or painted figurine."
Says you. Not everyone agrees. If you don't want to read about cover, don't read about the cover. Some of us, however, enjoy looking behind the wizard's curtain...
The fact Dan runs this blog mostly in his own time as an extension of his work ever think hes just busy?
The fact Rich updated for the comp maybe Dans just away enjoying a holiday or some time away from here.
Sure he will be back soon enough with some news for everyone.
i used to just store the mags without reading them until of late & now i enjoy them.. if anything it makes me like certain figurines more once i learn abit about them
its to much of a coincidence for me. he was sh*t hot all over the blog then after the noobs who called for him to be sacked he goes almost AWOL.
Dan's also said the bosses like plenty of advance notice for production and planning purposes. So I'll remain breathlessly expectant for a welcome announcement from EM in February!
If they are having a meeting next week regarding the future release of Chess sets and Batmobile collections, you can bet your bottom dollar that the progress of the CMFC gets mentioned and any extension news will be discussed.
If subscriber numbers have remained static, whats to say they wont green light it next week?
Look at it another way whats the longest running part work?
Im sure em would love there name next to that and im sure marvel wouldnt be put out by that honour either.
coincidentally what is the longest running partwork?
Echo echo .... :)
Sad when a saturday night gives you enought time to find out this info.
Italian-based De Agostini controls around half of the world market and it’s myriad publications include a Teddy Bear part-work, of which the first issue sold 700,000 copies. It also produces Learning Land and You and Your PC. Another Italian company, Fabbri, was behind the Star Trek series - which was the UK’s longest running part-work with 305 weekly installments - and the recent Dickens Collection. Other big operators include the French company Hachette (the Red Baron) and the Spanish Del Prado.
British company Eaglemoss pioneered Ultimate Real Robots, in which readers constructed their own robotic model, piece by piece - which was estimated to have made more than £6m. The firm’s success story last year was Horrible Histories, based on the popular Terry Deary books. Circulation has settled at 200,000 per issue, compared with the standard 60,000 for a part-work.
All from a scotsman article in sep 2004 but still cant see anyone taking out that star trek record
thanks ARCHANGEL wow the star trek one would be a nice target to beat
610 figures. Would really need to go to at least 617 in that case (616 but spidey 2099 is in already )
Spiderman 2099 appears in 616 continuity, so its still a cool target to aim for, but in my opinion...damn that would really draw out this line. I dont particularly want 600 marvel character where 200 of them will be really scraping the barrel in my eyes.
I would welcome series like Ultimates etc to help make up the numbers with higher profile names, but maybe I would just call it a day anyway. Hard to tell without knowing the characters in advance.
I also echo Roberts feelings about any update is a good update. I wouldnt mind no write-up either, just a picture, I wouldnt mind. Anything.
Then again, we used to expect only fortnight updates, so cant complain.
If the competition result is to be announced on October 7th then that's a good omen as it's my birthday! Struggling to come up with who I would choose, if I were to be successful. Shortlist currently down to Spitfire, the Human Fly (the stuntman not the short-lived Spidey villain - I know he only lasted 19 issues but he worked alongside Spidey, Daredevil and Ghost Rider during that time and I was a big fan), and Tombstone (but I'm working on the assumption he'll be in a future extension anyway). Anyone else care to share their choice if they win??
I never win contests but if I did win the comp contest I'm down to three SSSES SCARECROW, STEGRON, STILTMAN. Leaning towards STEGRON.
If there is a next extension & I hope there is I would not necessarily expect TOMBSTONE to be picked as I suspect the next Spidey villain will probably be THE JACKAL.
Robert, am I correct that you are in Email contact with Ted Sallis?
If so then tell him to come back to the blog.
I miss reading his witty comments.
I'd chose a cowboy.
Kid Colt Outlaw ran for (I believe) over 200 issues from the late '40s to the late '70s. This makes it one of the longest-running series in Marvel history behind the 'big 9'. Rawhide Kid's been almost as prominent.
Cowboys represent the major corner of the MU that's completely absent from the Collection. An omission which, if asked to make my selection, I'd correct!
...
Well folks, it's time to check out this week's
VIRTUAL CMFC GALLERY UPDATE
including:
A kick-ass Starjammers trio:
Ch'od, Raza and Korvus
Two intriguing and visually interesting X-verse characters:
Daken and Mercury
A less known, yet really
awesome Defender:
Devil Slayer
A super curveball villain
with truly iconic design:
Hate-Monger
Hope these will inspire all of you blog competition participants to look at less explored ares of the Marvel Universe for your choice of character - if you win. Plenty of great characters deserve a chance.
ok so ive narrowed my comp winner choice down to 4.. STARDUST - DANGER - A-BOMB - KURSE
Actually, Hel, Ted contacted me out-of-the-blue yesterday to let me know that there was a piece of original George Tuska Thor art from the UK reprint title Super Spider-Man on the Romitaman site. He's very thoughtful that way.
I'll pass on your appeal to him. It is rather quiet on here without him...
"Robert, i am just putting the finishing touches to my acceptance speech in anticipation of Bloodstone being announced as comp winner. On Oct 7, i shall return.....fer one post.Jose wales teeth and gums are gie tricky, but ah love the challenge.
see ye then, Ted."
I wonder.
Is there ANYONE you wish WOULDNT get chosen as a character for the competition?
Without naming any specific characters, I hope the following types will not be chosen:
1. Characters with oversimplistic, unimaginative costumes and physical features. The comp winner should take this opportunity to give EM a creative challenge to tackle a character with elaborate, interesting design.
2. Civilians or superheroes with civilian-style costume. Personally for me all the excitement comes from characters with outlandish designs that are a triumph of visionary Marvel imagination.
3. Characters that are highly likely to get in the CMFC without help from the comp. The winner should dedicate the victory to a character who's incredibly special in the MU and needs a passionate fan to show us why.
If the winner's choice meets all of the above 3 criteria, then I'm sure I'll be happy with the fig.
So, to recap:
1. no simplistic, easy design.
2. no civilian/civilian-style.
3. no one who already has a chance.
This should result in an interesting character choice and a fig that'll make the CMFC even more exciting.
@ BLAKENEWMAN, out of the 4 i named i just went for eye-catching. i'd be interested to know peoples thoughts on them.. good or bad dont sugar-coat it let me know what you guys think i wont be offended, infact it would help me out.
agree Sif needs more work, but what about GIANT MAN?
how about GIANT MAN?
Origonal Avenger some how my display of the origonal Avengers doesn't look right with the Yellowjacket figurine.
