"Parrrker! where's my cigarrr?!"

Hi guys,

Before I preview JJJ digital image and announce the next figurine, I just wanted to recommend a forthcoming book that Alan Cowsill has been working on (even features my own handiwork colouring a strip called Tempation by Glenn Dakin). It's all going to charity so please pre-order and help out those folks in Japan who are still reeling from the disaster.

'The Spirit of Hope is a unique anthology of short stories from the world’s greatest creators dealing with the impact of disasters on people’s everyday lives. Creators include Liam Sharp, Henry Flint, Nick Abadzis, Glenn Dakin, Mark Buckingham, Al Davison and Peter Hogan with stories covering all aspects of human life in the face of catastrophe. The collection comes in two editions – one with a beautiful Jimmy Broxton cover and a second with a cool Michael Allred cover. All profit from the title will go to help disaster victims via Second Harvest and the New Zealand Red Cross.'

There's also a digital edition available with alternate Mike Allred cover

Release date: 18th June 2011, Price £14.99 + £3.00 postage (UK), £5.00 postage (Rest of World). Books will be dispatched after the release date.

Ordering:
UK: Spirit of Hope – £14.99 + £3.00 postage

http://www.comicbook.org.uk/spirit-of-hope/

Here are just a few of the beautiful illustrations that grabbed my attention...

Anyway, onto the reason you all came here: The Jameson preview!

We're over the moon with it here at EM, it's by Toby at Imagika (who did most of the original 10 figurines - although his style has changed somewhat, especially with his mastery of the 3D digital illustration software he now uses. I think it really sums up JJJ's personality and you don't even notice the cigar (yes it would never have got approved with it!). Hope you guys like it as much as us.

Oh, one last thing the next character to be confirmed is...

for all you Cosmic fans out there...

A Herald of Galactus...

FIRELORD!

There are so many great Spidey villains left to do... As for Vermin, there are a lot of people on the forum with Vermin in their Top 20.

I'd really like to see a poll of Spidey villains as so many of them are high wants. Honestly though, I think Hammerhead would edge out on top. If it weren't for Tombstone, I'm sure he'd be getting more votes altogether in polls, but most people group the two together and don't want to vote for two characters, so they split the vote. (Note that any Spidey list always has the two characters next to each other.)

My choice would go to Swarm, Spot or Jack O' Lantern... if I had to narrow it down. But Spider-Man is my main book, so I want them all!

John said...

I feel Jackal is the most deserving, however.

When I first watched X-Men First Class, I thought Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw was a bad idea too. The part was played well but they could of found someone who looked more like the character. However I went to watch it a second time on Tuesday (Yes thats how much I loved it lol) and to tell the truth, I wasn't as bothered about him as before. I think I've got used to him a bit more now. Still do think there were better choices for the character though. Magneto totally kicks butt in that film though, was good to see Professor X get in on some action too! :)
Regarding Spidey villains, I can understand why Jackal is deserving to make the collection soon, he was responsible for the Clone Wars after all. However, Hammerhead is a more favourable character among fans and I can see him appearing first. The second Spidey villain (if there will be one) will most likely go to Jackal or Tombstone.
And finally, echoing tinodragon14's post. DD needs Owl! Dr. Strange needs Baron Mordo! Frightful Four needs Trapster! Alpha Flight needs Shaman (at least)! I want Whirlwind! :P

I want WHIRLWIND to but will gladly take HAMMERHEAD as the next figure. I know as Spidey villains go JACKAL is a favorite & he will make a neat looking figure but I think HAMMERHEAD, MOLTEN MAN & TOMBSTONE should come before him. The clone saga I found silly at the time & the revelation that Professor Miles Warren was the JACKAL was just totally unbelievable. I like SWARM & JACK O'LANTERN but I wonder if that can do justice to a SWARM figure after all he is made up of bees & JACK flaming pumpkin head should look great but doing flames in lead does not look so hot on the TORCH & DORMAMMU & PYRO. I'm sorry but Spot I keep thinking dog not villain. TARANTULA is a great name for a villain but I could not get past how hard it would be to walk with long pointy metal boots. I did not forget VERMIN but he was not high on my list of Spidey villains but he certainly is a creepy, pathetic villain.
As for X-MEN which is really MAGNETO'S show I thought Bacon did fine but as I said in agreement with SinVen I just wish they had picked an actor that actually resembled SHAW from the comics. I will see it again myself & buy the soundtrack & the movie when it comes out.

"Marvel have had the lionsahre of the comic market for a long time now. Not sure if those stats are uk based or worldwide, but either way i think marvel is more represented universally."

I don't think the international market is included in these figures. It's orders made by US/ North American stores, I believe.

"Classic marvel was all about the camp and daft ideas."

There you go again. Stan, Jack, Steve were genuises, Leigh, and there were dozens of very, very talented writers and artists working at the same time and later. I can't believe you just dismissed their work like that. I suppose that just proves again that you haven't read very many Silver or Bronze Age comicbooks. Again I am left wondering why you subscribe to a Marvel figurine collection when you have such a low opinion of Marvel. I'm not taking a potshot, but it's a mystery.

DC 28.37%
Wow! I bought , 3 Hulks 3 Thunderbolts and an Avengers comic last month.Guess they would have been pretty much neck and neck otherwise. ;)
Jackal #1 Spidey villain pick,#2The Looter ( afav of Leigh's...probably ) ;)

Some good talk by John, tino and SV, great suggestions for characters, spidey and main villain and I'd have them all. I would love to see Doppleganger although he isnt really that deserving of a spot. I just love the look of a huge monster spidey with 6 arms.

BD, looked back at that silver scorpion and had a proper look rather than a glimpse and you're right, it is actually bad.

Robert - shut up.
I am subscribed to the collection because I grew up reading marvel, watching marvel cartoons, films, playing computer games, the toys, buying the statues, the busts, the silly collectibles, the clothing. Just because we have different views on the 'golden age' doesnt mean that I am an invalid collector and fan of marvel. Growing up with modern marvel with the luxury or reprints and picking up old issues second hand, it's easier for me to make different opinions not based off loyalty of creators, writers, artists, nostalga. For me, the writing is much better nowadays with each comic like a blockbuster film. The artist is miles better with the benefits of new print and art creating technology, and artists pushing what they learnt from classic comics and improving upon it.

Its not to say I havent enjoyed many 'classic' comics, I have, and own to odd issue and reprinted collections. But on a whole I have found most of them dull and found it harder to browse for more because the artwork never grabbed me when flicking through comics. The reason why I dont like that era is the same reason I dont like DC, apart from the odd graphic novel or story arc.

I grew up in a different era. I have no obligation to enjoy anything that was created before my time. Chances are I will be complaining at kids when I am in my 40s, 50s, 60s at how good marvel was when I started reading, in my personal golden age. So dont tell me I dont love marvel and question why I collect things marvel.

If you love Marvel why are you so damn negative all the time?

6. Molten Man
7. Jack O'Lantern
8. Tarantula
9. Stegron
10. Scream (yea, that symbiont)

Top 10 list of Spidey characters? That's it?! I don't think I can do that. Here's my Top 19, in order of how much I want them;

1. Spot
2. Swarm
3. Jack 'O Lantern
4. Tombstone
5. Jackal
6. White Rabbit
7. Hammerhead
8. Mr. Negative
9. Grizzly
10. Leap-Frog
11. MJ
12. Boomerang
13. Vermin
14. Kaine
15. Rocket Racer
16. Slyde
17. Alistair Smythe
18. Molten Man
19. Puma
20. Calypso

Noteable others; Kangaroo, Black Fox, Gibbon, Stegron, Will-O-Wisp, Silvermane and Looter.

As Specials, Madame Web is the definite. Big Wheel would be awesome, for me, but I don't know how well a Mega of Big Wheel would sell...

Lastly, I don't know how else these guys would sell other than a Triple Pack, but I REALLY want the Enforcers, Montana, Fancy Dan and Ox, in the collection.

This makes me really wish we get at least 2 Spider-Man characters this extension.

(may have to ask/vote for that new mutant Magma or whatever the name is in solidarity...LOL ).
Anywho Stegron... What's not to love about a dinosaur? The Savage land is full of them (as well as Japan). One of my fondest memories was the continuation of WW2 in the Savage land with the Luftwaffe flying Pterodactyl's and the RAF flying huge feathered birds!!!!Absolutley silly stuff but magic at the same time.
Great news that Firelord is included.. can't have enough cosmics IMO.
A big Hi to Ted , BobD, Thor8, Jacadoo,PA,LAWAY and the rest that are keeping the dream alive.

Ah Leigh and Robert yer like Doris Day and Rock Hudson.

"Anywho Stegron... What's not to love about a dinosaur?"

Does that man talk sense, or does that man talk sense?

That's some holiday, Bagman F.F.F.! By the time you get home they'll have closed the Missing Persons case on you both! (Yes, that's a comment borne of jealousy!) Say hi to _ _ _ _ for me!

Bob, I'm a huge Cap fan but not so crazy about his rogue's gallery. Certainly an A.I.M. technician and a Hydra goon are a must, with Crossbones, Baron Blood and Strucker strong candidates, too. To be honest, though, apart from the Hydra agent, I'd much rather see Tarantula, Jackal, etc.

Ted, are you talking about the Molten Man story where his body is burning up and he jumps off the bridge at the end, apparently committing suicide?

mgf said...

Jack 'O Lantern,

The Tinkerer,

Jackal,

Boomerang,

Rocket Racer,

Molten Man,

Tarantula,

Basilisk,

Ringer,

Mirage,

and Will O' The Wisp would make me very happy, Spidey villain wise.

Hammerhead reminds me too much of Clyde from the Anthill Mob.

SinisterVenom said...

Oh I can't miss up an opportunity for a list...especially a Spidey one! :D Here I go!

1. Hammerhead
2. Tombstone
3. Jackal
4. Jack O'Lantern
5. Demogoblin
6. Spot
7. Alistair Smythe
8. Molten Man
9. Kaine
10. The Tinkerer

And of course, Madame Web would make the perfect Spidey Special. I think I can wait a bit longer for Doppelganger, I see MW as a more important character and personally I want her more than I do Doppelganger...even if he has recently reappeared in the new Carnage series that began the end of last year.

D'Spayre, I remember an old MTU, drawn by John Byrne. D'Spayre turned poor Spidey into a blubbing scaredy cat, I hated seeing Spidey like that, I seem to remember, when Spidey overcame his fear, i implored him to "kick im in the conkers Spidey!"
Bloody hate D'Spayre...cool Spidey villain tho.
Robert, the last Molten Man story i remember was when he was actually in flames as his powers had gone off the richter scale. He ends up jumping into the freezing Hudson to his comicbook death. Fantastic stuff

deamon said...

Doppelganger is 6'5, regular for sure. Why ideas about making him special? He's in my TOP 5 most wanted regulars at now. Each hand in different pose would be perfect.

As for Cap characters, IMO Arnim Zola should be special this year after Odin. And twins as double pack after him to end this year.

Robert said...

THAT's the story that made a huge impression on me too, Ted! I've read several other Molty appearances and none is half as good as that one. It was very intense. Absolute classic.

MGF and SV, I was very happy to see some love for the Basilisk, Mirage and the Tinkerer. I struggled to keep my list down to ten and reluctantly had to leave them out. Love the story with the Mirage - beautiful art.

MOLTEN MAN
TOMBSTONE
JACKAL
STEGRON THE DINOSAUR MAN
PUMA
JACK O'LANTERN
GRIZZLY
SPEED DEMON
BOOMERANG
SWARM
TARANTULA
MAN MOUNTAIN MARKO
I have mentioned THE ENFORCERS before but they are a threesome although sometimes THE OX popped up alone in issues of DD. Cannot see them done as single figures but as a rare three pack.
I had forgotten about GRIZZLY but always liked him but is he not big enough to be a special like THE RHINO? He will look awesome.
A BIG HUG out to Becq for mentioning STILT-MAN another favorite of mine.

Becquerel said...

Well, out of these henchmen, I don't really want to see the Purifiers (never liked Stryker and his people), but all the other goons are just too good to pass.

AIM, Hydra, Hand, SHIELD and Doombots all have been in a ton of comics and definitely deserve the spotlight a little, as well.

As for Cap's villains, I've never been a fan of most of his enemies, I always saw him as an Avenger rather than as a standalone hero.

But it'd be kinda like this:
1. MODOK
2. Arnim Zola
3. Von Strucker
4. Sin
5. Dr. Faustus
6. Crossbones
7. Flag-Smasher
8. Dredmund the Druid
9. Sleeper
10. Yellow Claw

4. Morgan le Fay
5. Nebula
6. Whirlwind
7. Moonstone
8. Living Laser
9. Grey Gargoyle

Haha BD, I think you may have just woke my mother up by making me burst out in laughter!
The Spot has the ability to create portals that leads to another dimension and can use them to travel too. He could punch or kick into a portal and his fist or foot could reappear behind you from his portal. He even once piled bags of money together and created a portal underneath it all to transport it away.
Anyway you get the idea. That's his Thang.
Word verification is 'flatie'.

As a Marvel child of the Seventies, everything about that era was wonderful. The stories were less brutal, less graphic and I suppose less complicated than they are now, but I feel lucky to have experienced it then and for them to become part of my formative childhood. That's why a lot of my Spidey villains are from that era, here goes....

1) Hammerhead, how he hasn't been made is beyond me.
2) Jackal, part of the clone saga, very important.
3) Tarantula, great moustache, great feet, just great.
4) White Tiger, c'mon guys...give poor ol' Hector a break
5) Molton Man, typical 70's character, tortured soul.
6) Stegron, he controls dinosaurs....that pretty, damn cool.
7) Tombstone, very stylish, iconic villain.
8) Vermin, I don't why, I just like him.
9) Jack O'Lantern, will make a great looking figurine.
10) Madame Web, she is essential but is she worth a special slot?

All yours guys.

The search for an obscure character that Leigh would like has ended, I have seen some of the greatest origin issues of all time. The likes of "Behold a Vision","The coming of Galactus",
"Here comes the man called Cable" to name but a few.
But last night as i fondled my piles, i chanced upon Marvel Spotlight #28, featuring Moon Knight ( one of the finest sculpts in this collection),well i have found the perfect MK villain. He goes by the name of "Conquer Lord" he is accompanied by two singing rats. It would be a stunning fig.
I like to think i know a thing or two about a thing or two. So Leigh mate, there's realy no need to thank me.....
Princess Python for the Friday reveal Daniel the Spaniel, i know you are considering her :)

Robert said...

Remember that story well, Ted. He dropped old Moonie into a watery pit to die - and MK did a very Batman-esque escape trick. Actually, prior to going out in his helicopter with a camp Frenchman (read into that what you will), old Moonie - in the guise of Jack the Cabbie - turned down a rather lovely girlfriend who was gagging for it. Superheroes, eh, they're all crazy.

Robert said...

That's Jake, not Jack, dummy.

Becquerel said...

Conquer Lord would be marvelous, especially if he does get his 2 rats. :)

And Robert, it's obvious Moonie would do a Batman-esque escape trick, considering he is Marvel's answer to Batman (and to be frank, I like him so much more than the dark knight, despite that one having the best and only really memorable rogues gallery in DC). ;)

Good ol' Moonie. Too bad he died such a silly death in Ultimate Marvel...

Yeh, I know, Becquerel, even down to the crescent moon throwing weapon being the Batarang.

Becquerel said...

Y'know, there's only 2 really Austrian characters in Marvel I would know of, and one of them has already made it into the collection(Destiny). Other one is Dr. Faustus, whom I'd actually like to see, but he's just a bearded guy in a suit, so I doubt he'd make a very impressive figurine.

Though, despite my location, I am actually Russian and Estonian in terms of heritage, so if we go by location, I'd rather see characters from Russia (Red Guardian and his russian Avengers rip-off - Winter Guards or what are they called? - with the grizzly bear among it, that'd be epic) or the Baltic countries (are there characters existing from there? I have no idea!).

There's only one Russian character I can think of who hasn't been made and could be considered worthy, and that would be Titanium Man.

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Yep. Ursa Major from the Soviet Super Soldiers would look great. There used to be someone on here years ago campaigning for him. Titanium Man may be in with chance this extension.
