All-father!

Hi guys,

Sorry for the wait for an update but hopefully this will be worth it.

First, I have the sculpt images of Odin. The good news is that he looks amazing, the bad news is that you'll have to wait a little while for him to come out. Due to a few problems, the all-father won't be making an appearance until August-September time.

That aside, I thought I'd explain our costume choice. As I may have mentioned in the past, Odin is a complete and utter nightmare for costume choice. If you read through his comic appearances you'll see that literally every issue he changes costume – and I'm not talking about small changes, quite often he'll go from wearing a horned helmet with a viking look to futuristic armour with a giant crown. I guess when you're the lord of Asgard you get a little bored with wearing the same clothes.

Obviously there were some story arcs where he kept the same costume (Simonson's run on Thor) but in the end we chose a costume that was reminiscent of Kirby's style, had aspects of Simonson and had appeared in a number of '90s comics. We were also careful to make sure Odin has his eyepatch and one (yes, I know he had more) of the crows.

Personally, I think this is one of our best specials, the sculptor did a fantastic job.

Moving swiftly on, the next topic is the subsets.

Thank you all so much for the great ideas and support for various types of subsets. All I can say at the moment is that we have no plans to do Marvel subsets but I will pass on all your comments to our marketing department and my boss. Hopefully, if the Blackest Night series does well and we feel confident we're not over saturating the market, we'll try a subset before the series ends (whenever that will be).

I just wanted to add one quick note on the subsets: The main reason we tried a Blackest night collection was to try and tie-in with the hype of the Green Lantern movie and the mega-event that is Blackest Night/Brightest Day. Perhaps an Avengers subset would be good for the movie next year but then we have done most of the Avengers already. I guess only time will tell.

Last thing I'd like to show you is the Shanna She Devil paint.

Have a great weekend.

BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO to the sculptor, pose and costume are A++++

now just 1 small concern....he needs 2 RAVENS, come on Rich it'll be easy just have the second standing on the base at his feet i also wanted him to be holding Gungnir but i can live without that.

roll on August-September i cant wait

big MAN HUG for Rich, will be even bigger if you put the second bird in

a very very happy Pirate :)

Odin looks fantastic. I wasn't convinced with the animal hide kilt from the suggested pic a while back, but think the sculpt definitely looks better.

Pity about the delay. Three or fours months seems a long time considering we've already been waiting a good while. Still, better slow and right than quick and wrong, I guess.

Odin looks cool. Can't fault the costume choice especially since he changes his costume more than an MTV Awards host does.

Shanna looks amazing aswell.

Top notch work guys.

Odin looks tremendous. I loved the seated custom Odin, but this is such a dynamic pose. Anything Kirbyesque is always going to be hard to beat. Great pose, great costume.

Shanna is also fantastic. I was a little surprised at her inclusion, but I know how important it is for EM to try and keep the male/female balance as far as possible.

A nice update, and two superb new figures on the way.

Nice to hear of the possiblity of an Avengers subset tie-in. Let's hope it happens and we get an original Giant Man amongst others classics.

PS: As Blackest Night was mentioned,I got my first BN sub pack today. Atrocitus & Larfleeze, issues 2 & 3. Both excellent, but the latter is a magnificent sculpt which rivals anything produced in either collection.

This collection just gets better and better the Odin sculpt is absolutely incredible, Get this sculptor to do the Hulk redo. I think we had all agreed on the original purple shorts look ;)
Shanna is a lovely as Julianna Moore.
Only downer is the delay :(

Two amazing figurines there. Odin is just phenomenal, there is literally no other word to describe him. Shanna is gonna fit right in with Ka-Zar and Zabu, another great job.

Now Odin has been pushed back to August is there any chance you guys can sneak Northstar and Aurora. Please please please :-)

I smell BS, MT! There were a minimum of 22 minutes between Gremlin's post and your post about Shanna. Your post was about 50 words long, which is a rate not much better than two words a minute! Then you commented on something I said and in fifteen minutes (at most) you typed 78 words (more than five words a minute). Either your typing is getting much better or you are trying to explain away the fact you missed three (THREE) mentions of Shanna...

Robert said...

P.S. Your list was excellent.

not that i have to explain myself but there were only four comments on here when i started my 1st post and if you look , the first 4 posts do not mention shanna.

Tomorrow, MT, I promise to write a list since you said please. It's been a long week and I can't be bothered tonight. As for your list, you had some classic characters from yesteryear that us old timers remember fondly, so that was nice to see. 'Night, everyone!

BobDiamond said...

Ah... the classic banter returns 'twixt Mad Thinker and Robert...Just like old times again!

Better add my appreciation of the 2 new sculpts- both look excellent.. Well Done EM!

Over on the CBR site recently, they announced the result of a poll of what fans considered the best decade for comics was. The result?...the 1980s!
An interesting verdict that...I can see why in a way. A lot of truly revolutionary stuff came out of the 80s- Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, Crisis on Infinite Earths ....BUT not quite so big a decade for Marvel...agree or disagree??

BD (still a 70s man at heart)

not liking that it's looking like we're only getting 4 specials this year. sauron is out in june/july. odin in aug/sept and we'll probably get another special in november. but what about the april/may special? it's getting a bit short notice to get one organised. we're already down the special we were promised when we got destroyer and another special seems to be MIA. there's too many special sized characters to be done to be losing special slots.

Sorry gents been away far too long!!

Internet now sorted so I will post away.

Got to say nice to see James posting - one of the very best sculptors (I have a few of his pieces) friend please start again!!

Now onto serious stuff Rich - please tell me based on movie box office, apart from one movie from the DC franchise - how are the marketing boys justifying the sub-set and not one from Marvel?

Green Lantern - even the Asgardians in our community would smite this offering!!

Yes the Odin special is probably the best yet…. Don’t tell Padam, Thor or Roberto please

Just don’t wake us Olympians before noon!!

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

" what about the April/May special"
Well if they pull the finger out an Asgardian Destroyer to coincide with the box office event of the year would be clever.

Indeed we supplied a lot of great ideas. C'mon EM already. Just do a Marvel subset and test collectors response. It will be a success.

Looks like I'm the only one unhappy with Shanna. I was hoping for the Frank Cho version, in a 2-piece. STILL, it is a nice figurine, and I'm really just glad we're getting her at all. So thank you, EM :)

I'm really happy that the entire Ka-Zar family was done justice and will sit together in my display. Think about this for a second... In a world where most collection would have gone with 10 versions+ of Spidey or Wolverine instead, we actually have a collection that focuses on the broader MU and gives us characters like Shanna :D

Odin really does look fantastic. I don't read Thor, but I'm still getting him.

An Avengers tie-in Subset? Sounds great to me, as long as there are no redos in it. Though if it's really for the movie, there's not many to do... Maria Hill is about the only one we know of that's not done yet.

You could have famous Avengers through time, giving us Swordsman and Mantis, USAgent, etc. But a mix like that is kind of week.

Just please no redos! There's too many characters to cover to take a step back like that!

...What about Marvel Movie characters that are missing from the films leading up to the Avengers? Whiplash, General Ross, Iron Monger, Warriors Three or Hiemdall, Dum Dum Dugan, Maria Hill... is Arnim Zola going to be in the Cap. Movie?

My hope is that the Avengers title will have something major going on next year and we can wait for that. I'm sure there will be a huge event tied to it with the movie coming out, which will probably mean lots of option for a subset... we just have to wait and see where Marvel is going.

14. Nightmare
15. Rocket Raccoon
16. Brother Voodoo
17. Speedball
18. Ant-Man (O’Grady)
19. Sleepwalker
20. Death

I tried to keep it mixed, but still only pulled from my Top 31. Otherwise, there'd be a LOT more Cosmic and Agents of Atlas.

LAWay said...

Ok, negativity out the way. I didnt care for shanna. For me, i have hardly heard of her, or read her in a comic. But, the sculpt does look pretty nice and feminine, so I look forward to her being on my shelf.

Odin, again, I didnt really care for. I ain't into the asgardians, I read Thor briefly and didnt enjoy it much except for the artwork. That being said, the Odin figurine looks like one of the best sculpts in the entire series. I love it! A shining example of how the great men of EM can make a character that some people may not care or be that familiar with (i know alot of you are opposite), but then turn it around to make this figurine a must-have. Keep it up.

I know its a special, but the style of this is fantastic, it seems so different. If the quality and style is kept up, give me 3D Man and American Eagle, I really wouldnt care if they looked this good.

As for the 80s winning a poll on a forum, no wonder, most of you guys are all oldies. :P

A subset to tie in a major event? I think the Ultimates would be perfect to tie-in with the Avengers movie. Or just a movie avengers theme. Wouldnt mind having Scarlett Johansson. ;)

A pleasant update.

Nothing lasts forever, and this collection is closer to the end than the beginning.

I sometimes look at those figures which have been included inexplicably (imo), the risible X Man leaps to my mind, and think how much more irritating he will become when the collection ends and we don't have Yondu, or Whirlwind, or Blizzard, or Starhawk, or Rocket Racoon, or... at least a hundred others.

There is only one figure I am desperate for now and that is the suddenly seemingly sidelined Lockjaw. We'll get Shaman next time around, but the Northstar and Aurora delay is a little worrying.

I suspect we may be given a little Asgardian Destroyer special in the next few weeks to fill in the April/May slot, so that will be fun if it happens. Strikes me EM can turn things around quite quickly when they wish, as Zabu showed.

Talking of the inexplicable, Marvel Girl & Typhoid Mary just arrived to jeers from the assembled neighbours as they attended the unboxing, pitchforks in hand. "Where is Vance Astro?", they wailed. "Silence scum!" I roared, "Some jejune Marvelites think these dopey female characters are cool! Yes, I know thirteen quid could pay for a Stiltman special with modular leg extensions, but look at this! The yellow and green one has big earrings!"

The door of my armoured Zil saved me from Benezir Bhutto's fate.

Exeunt stage left, pedal to the metal.

Read mgf's comments about Lockjaw. Have they actually sculpted him? Rich asked us whether we wanted Lockjaw as a double-pack with Maximus or Luna, but as I recall there was no debate about whether or not we would get Lockjaw himself. It was just a matter of how he was sold. Do we know anything else about Lockjaw?

As for hints of impending cancellation raised by Larry, didn't Rich also say in the previous post that he'd prefer another extension to a sub-set? Was that another clue that sales are falling and the end is near?

Leigh, your colourised version of Odin looks great. Not entirely sure about the red cape, as it would be the same colour as Thor's, but that may just be me.

One other thing: Huginn and Muninn, Odin's ravens, are black.

Anyway, anyone who hasn't looked at Leigh's handiwork, you should go and have a butcher's. It's pretty impressive.

BobDiamond said...

Just pulling your leg Leigh!...

Did you know that some of Frank Miller's earliest work was doing Hostess fruit Pie adverts? (a lot of the big names were doing them anyway- back in the day...). One of his, featuring Spidey, NEVER featured in a Marvel comic, but was only printed in Gold Key Comics of the time. Weird huh?
(I'm a mine of useless info at the mo, 'cos I've been reading the blogs from CBR- great stuff on that site BTW.)

haha thanks john. yeh, my list is probably the best one suggested isnt it? :P

i think personally alot of the names i mentioned are still big characters that have appeared in mainstream comic titles and story arcs. thats why they appeal to me, while other people may like certain sections of the marvel universe and want the supporting cast in those specialist areas, i still just want the bigger named characters that have had a bigger impact on the MU on a whole.

In my opinion.

Here's a thought when i received the Blackest Night leaflet in my magazine. Technically, i could subscribe and get the free folder and stand, then cancel after issue 1 and i would still get the free stuff? I gotta admit, i am tempted to cheat the system in that case...

Well, at least one person sees some merit in my list. Thor8 has six of the characters I picked (and Heimdall was number 21 and just missed out). :)

After Leigh mentioned Kick-Ass my mind started wandering about characters published by Marvel but not from the main MU. I would love it if someone could sort out the problems with copyright so I could get a Dreadstar subset.

Anonymous said...

hey Thor8, pls spare me the thunders! ;) My list is not in order of preference, it's just an order that creates variety. I've put Swordsman at number 200 because he's one of my favourite characters, and I thought that the 181-200 extension would end on a high.

mighty_marvel said...

thanks for the support of my list john. some fantastic inclusions on yours that just narrowly missed out on my own. would buy sleepwalker, speedball and paladin in a hearbeat. and rocket raccoon only missed out as i'm hoping for the double pack with groot. would like death also. was originally wanting her as a special in the classic holding the body of mar-vell image but i guess that ship has sailed now, so i'd be happy with mistress death as a regular.

speaking of kick-ass i would think that EM would need a new licence as the rights are owned by mark millar and not marvel, so kick-ass couldn't be in the CMFC. but if they could get a licence a short new series of kick-ass, hit girl, big daddy and red mist would be awesome.
and while they're doing that they could also talk to robert kirkman about a walking dead collection :)

LAWay said...

yeh, i figured there were issues with inclusions of kick-ass as he is not technically Marvel, but found it strange that the comic was being sold on the marvel website, so i figured if marvel are selling it, perhaps they own it more than we think.

then again, due to the lack of milking the series and character, its more possible its not owned by them.

In which case, replace him with Lyja Lazerfist.

as for Robert's list, the cheat included variants, which i would love, but i thought it was cheating. :P

And if Odin is in September, please give us Sauron in July and twins in May, because you're delaying Northstar.
As for subsets Hellfire Club would be good, because of First Class movie: Sebastian Shaw, Harry Leland, Selene, Donald Pierce, Mastermind (in his Brotherhood uniform), Madelyne Pryor, Trevor Fitzroy, Shinobi Shaw.

Just noticed your post, Leigh, and I'd like to point out that my list was a dream list, hence the use of the words "Dream List". If it had been a next extension wish list I would have written "Next Extension Wish List".

Kirlianeyes considered thyself spared. I kind of thought that your list was not in order of preference, to be quite honest with the possible exception of the first 5,my list is not in order of preference either, and there are many characters in other lists posted that I would like to have also.

Going back to the subset theme once again I believe that one theme that would please just about everyone would be one that scans the whole MU. What group of characters scattered across the MU could possibly compose a subset under a common theme, you ask? Verily the answer to thy query is quite simple. A "MU alien race subset" and-or a "generic villain subset." In the Alien Race sub set we could get characters like Tana Nile from the Colonizers, Captain Atlas from the Kree,a Badoon,a Shiar,a Brood, etc. As for generic villains, how about:a Hydra agent,an AIM technician,a Sons of the Serpent,a lava man,a moloid, etc. I'm aware that others have mentioned this in the past, but I believe these figurines would make great subsets. What do you guys think?

Howard the Duck
Grey Gargoyle
Firelord
Gamora
Vance Astro
Owl
White Tiger
Baron Mordo
Jigsaw
Hammerhead

Anyone here collect the binders? I haven't had a Marvel or DC one in ages. A while ago I phoned and cancelled the plinths-they were just stacking up without getting used- so I'm wondering if EM think I cancelled the binders too...

Again, good to have the unpredictable musings of MT on here...and the equally entertaining responses from our pal across the border!!

Now this subject of conjecture. Subsets. I see that EM are collectng data on the possibility and there is nothing in the pieline at all so I will not hold my breath. IF there were to be one maybe something like this...........
Take The Twelve. They could all be on seperate bases, but bases that interlock to form one big standard base (so not to annoy the purists). All the characters would be action posed as if attacking an enemy and in the end you get a really different display for the subset. Of course, this could also be done for any number of characters, Miss America, Whizzer etc.............

Subsets...

Em said they only did one for DC, for Blackest Night, because of how epic it was. It spanned across the DC universe, revealed many twists and secrets and had critical acclaim...in addition to a Green Lantern movie being released this year.

So please, think before suggesting subsets. It has to be ON PAR or better than this. It cant be just some super team or characters that havent appeared before in the regular collection. What sort of statement does that make?

It has to be epic, exciting and bankable.

Thor8 said...

Another theme for a cool subset would be heroes from yesteryear. You could do The Invaders,or since we practicaly have the majority of them already maybe you could do The liberty Legion along with other golden age heroes like The Angel,The Vision,The Blazzing Skull, etc.

Barnabas said...

Of course it would have to be epic. I was just using The Twelve as way of example.
They could, as another example, make the cover of Giant X-Man #1.
I'm no marketing boffin researcher, I'm just throwing ideas out to make a subset unique and different to the normal run.

Barnabas

Robert said...

If we could get a Dreadstar subset that would be Epic. It spanned across an entire universe, had many twists (Plan M, etc.) and secrets (Willow's childhood) and was critically acclaimed.

Anonymous said...

Subsets. Flexible formulas.
Just because the first DC subset is based on a major saga, it does not mean that 'major saga' is the only formula for subsets. EM have been wise to create their first-ever subset around Blackest Night, as it has an almost guaranteed commercial appeal. However, with the Marvel Universe, there are plenty more options that can prove equally and perhaps even more appealing. Such as team subsets, variant subsets, Golden Age subsets and broader MU Files exploring alien races, secret organisations and more. Which is why the forum is running a poll for these types of subsets. I am a Blackest Night collector, and it's an amazing collection. I wish it the best commercial success. And then, I know that EM will be more keen to offer other kinds of subsets. No major saga required. Although of course we could have Age of Apocalypse or Planet Hulk, for example, among the other types of subsets. With the Marvel Universe, subsets don't need to be in conjunction with the hot trend of the moment. There are pleny of awesome areas to explore historically, ie. happened in the past, which still exert enormous fascination on Marvelites worldwide.

LAWay said:

"It has to be epic, exciting and bankable."

Be fair LA, it has to be Marvel as well! :-(

To those who collect both Marvel & DC: I've received Typhoid Mary & Marvel Girl and Big Barda & Azrael in the last 24 hours. I don't wish to sound unkind but the quality of the DC figures is so far ahead of the other two it verges on the embarrassing.

I don't mean the characters, I mean the figures. Big Barda, for example, is simply stunning. Anyone agree, and if so, does anyone want to hazard a guess as to why?

Does the award winning DC collection have a bigger budget than the CMFC?

Anonymous said...

I collect DC as well. The main DCFC and Blackest Night. Let's not forget that DC figurines cost £6.99, and is highly likely that the extra £1 makes the difference.

The DC collection has set a very high standard, and it delivers consistently. Most figurines are superbly executed with elaborate details, exciting poses and very accurate paint jobs.

But we have beautiful figurines in the CMFC as well, often in very elaborate sculpts for just £5.99.

What I see is that they appear less frequently. Elaborate sculpts are alternated with very basic sculpts. I consider Batroc and Silver Sable, for example, as very basis sculpts - because they lack complexity and the paint jobs are so easy, they're almost elementary.

It seems to me that EM may be using a rota system, whereby they need to alternate large & complex figurines with small and simple ones. And this may be due to more limited budget. Whereas DC can rely on the extra £1 to allow for large & complex figurines to be produced one after the other.

I would be unhappy if it turned out that some of the characters we see in the CMFC are chosen for their simplicity of design (ie. they're simple to sculpt and paint) and merely used to fill production gaps between the more important elaborate figurines that are more difficult to produce.

I'd be happy to pay £6.99 for the CMFC, if it meant that every character can be produced with high level of detail and paintjob.
As things stand, it's almost like Beta Ray Bill is a £7.99 figure and Batroc is a £3.99 figure!
And interesting approach, which works well in many cases, but I wish each character could be top class.

deamon said...

Aunt May? Good joke, but we have 2 weeks to 1 April.
Madame Web special would be awesome.

LAWay said...

Yeh, i guess if the blackest night collection does well, who knows, a subset could be made of anything. But its a big gamble from going with something that is a big tie-in for DC and just selecting mid-marvel characters. The Avengers tie-in for next year would probably be the best bet, as you know marvel will cook up some big avengers storyline to coincide with the films release.

I was shocked to hear the DC collection won Magazine of the Year until I saw the list of winners. DC clean sweeped every catergory, which was ridiculous. But still, maybe it got the collection more of a budget with those credentials.

I cant really understand how £1 would make such a huge different. A character design may be simple, but the sculpt can still be good. These sculptors know how to sculpt a human figure, each with its own difficulties due to the designs, but i dont believe they can honestly say the DC figurines take substantially longer than the Marvel ones.

Maybe DC have special contractors exclusively to sculpt their characters which are better than the marvel crew, or it could just be that the guys have learnt alot since the beginning of the collection (as you can tell with alot of the marvel modern sculpts which look great).

So maybe it comes down to the character designs. We are well over 140 figurines, and we are not getting the main marvel characters, which you have to admit, have more interesting character designs because they are the main marvel characters. They have to stand out, and so have more details and more character, and marvel spend more time on them looking good than the others.

So maybe thats what it really comes down to, the character designs. I think if they went back and redid the likes of Captain America, Iron Man, Spiderman, we would get awesome poses, great detailed sculpts. I dont think the £1 is a HUGE issue. Sure its all about profit margins, but if EM are confident in the collection to extend it to 180 after some characters they have released, then they must be pretty confident that they are making money.

Heres a question...would your sacrifice a special or 2 a year, just so that we can get DC quality sculpts in the regular line-up?

I remember hearing about this magazine of the Year Award- or whatever it was called, a while ago. I wonder if it's based purely on the magazine itself, or if the figure is all part of the vote....?
If it came down to being solely about the mag, then the Marvel one beats the DC one hands-down. It has wit, it mentions real time-lines that refer to the characters creation, and it interviews the creators and gives them real credit for their accomplishments.
The DC one leaves you wanting to know so much more about the REAL origins of the characters.
So I for one, salute the writers and editors of the Marvel mag- Well done chaps, on a continually enjoyable read!

800 POINTS!!!!! How much is that in earth money SV £5.oo-£6.00?
Don't you feel ripped off?
It's not a big roster compared to MvC2 which was about 45 characters?
Capcom are starting to go down in my estimation big time with this ripoff crap, A full roster could end up costing us £50.00 - £60.00.
I would rather eat my own feet than give them another penny, in fact i might just stick it on ebay , Then buy the full game with all the dlc for half the price in 6 months time. At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I agree that the CMFC magazine is awesome and better than the DCFC one.

As for the quality of the sculpt and the paintjob, I think every character can become an amazing figurine, regardless of whether they are super-famous characters or not. In fact, some of the less known characters have amazing designs.

Basic sculpt/Detailed sculpt.
A matter of ratio.

My comment was about some cases where EM has produced sculpts with very 'basic' level of details, almost as if they decided that the character did not deserve to be made with a higher level of details

... eg. Batroc could have been painted with more shadows, instead of block colours, while Silver Sable could have had a beautiful head of nicely sculpted curls instead of a flat wig-like hairpiece. What I'm saying is: some CMFC sculpts are quite basic, whereas the DCFC seems to try the best level of details and paintjob with every single character - no matters what character.

I totally love the CMFC, and I only intend to offer constructive criticism, ie. I wish the ratio of basic sculpts and highly detailed sculpts was more in favour of the highly detailed.

yeh, i heard of the MvC DLC. Rip-off. Not only those two characters, but charging for extra cool costumes. Its a shame thats how online gaming has changed games, which are no longer complete and are milked until a sequel is released.

I have no intention of buying the game until it drops down in price, or until they release an extra addition with all the DLC already included. There are polls running at the moment to pick what characters you want as the next DLC, i cant remember what website its on, but some great choices on there (although i think venom/doc ock and frank west/phoenix wright were topping the list for marvel and capcom respectively).

SinisterVenom said...

Yeah I know you're probably both thinking I must be mad to have paid the price for those two but those points have been sitting there for a couple of months now so I thought I may as well use them or else they would just go to waste. I don't plan on cashing in for more points just to download the extra costumes though, it's not like it changes the gameplay. New characters are one thing but paying to make the characters you already have look pretty in new costumes? No thanks!
Leigh I don't think they will ever release the game with all the DLC. May as well wait for the next game to come out, though it most likely won't be MVC related.

Oh and SV i,ve done the same as you many times just using up the last of my points on some extra or another. I don't want to see the day where i have to walk into a store pay £40.00 for my game plus £18.00 for the 2100 gamerpoints to get the full game, it's a rip off pure and simple.

The Ultimate universe would make a perfect mini series

Hawkeye said...

Here's a suggestion...rather than just go for a subset, why don't we go for something a little different in the CMFC. Might be more expensive but could prove popular. Key moments in the Marvel timeline e.g., Iron Man v Capt America during the events of Civil War; Rogue vs Ms Marvel; the unmasking of Peter Parker) The list is pretty inexhaustible and I'm sure fellow bloggers would have their own preferences. I just put this out there for consideration. My preferences for any further extension: Werewolf by Night, Tombstone, Hammerhead, Human Fly, Owl, Spitfire, White Tiger.

Word verification is relic - sometimes I feel like one :)

Robert said...

The detail in Nekron is quite incredible. There's nothing comparable in the CMFC.

Interesting idea, Hawkeye. Do you see these packs as basically a twin pack (two separate figures) or as an integrated scene? A while back there was a short-lived series called Famous Covers which sounds quite similar to your idea. As well as Galactus versus the Avengers and FF, they had a rather nifty Hulk vs Thing model and a Spidey vs Green Goblin model, both of which were rather cool. I'd probably buy these sets but there seems to be a sizeable number of collectors who don't want variants/ redos, so not sure of the popular appeal. And, of course, the Famous Covers series didn't last very long, either. Pity. I really liked it.

Hawkeye said...

Hulk v Thing would be a cool one, given their classic clashes over the years. I was thinking of two figures on a single base like Cloak & Dagger, but as a diarama (I think that's the word) but the cost of these would probably be prohibitive for the average punter.

I've had a look at the Nekron figure and it looks superb - that scythe looks fearsome!

Now it's the time for EM's Marvel team to a get sense of competitiveness -a healthy & constructive type of rivalry - and try to up their game for CMFC collectors, by increasing the level of details in Marvel figurines, and by giving us Marvel subsets to rival those DC beauties.

because Loki is a bit of a panzy when it comes to the physical stuff but he is a mighty sorcerer, if he wanted he could make himself as powerful as Wrecker or Absorbing Man but i guess he doesn't want to get his hands dirty and at the end of the day he'd still get the poop kicked out of him

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Yep, that's what i kinda thought Robert, But if the god of mischief had the Absorbing Mans power surely goldielocks would be toast?. why imbue some mortal to use a power he could possess himself.??
Ooooooooooo, ted lighten up you silly sossage.

pirate adam said...

perhaps Thor wont hold back against an empowered Loki knowing full well he'll just end up spending a few weeks with Hela before coming back to be a pain in the arse again, but does anybody actually die in the MU anymore?

Thor8 said...

First of all Ted,let me tell you it was not Loki whom gave the Wrecker his power, but rather it was bestowed upon him by mistake by Karnilla the Norn Queen who mistook him to be Loki himself. And if I'm not mistaken Thor has beaten the tar(and whatever else he's absorbed) out of Crusher Creel every time they have clashed. So why would Loki need or want said powers?

if i wrote the Thor comics he would be ruling the MU by now, using Galactus as a hand maid, Thanos as Asgards gardener, Dr Doom as his cleaner, Surtur to keep the place warm in winter and Ymir cool in the summer, you get the picture basically Thor would be king and everyone else his bitch

Pirate Thor #1

Pirate Thor is angry because Jacadoo has turned to the Olympihomo's so he decides to kick seven bells out of everyone except his good pals Pirate Adam, Thor8, Ted, Robert and BD.

His nice new armour gets covered in LAWays blood so Robert gives him his old costume and Pirate Thor is happy.

CRASH BANG

the evil CBR Beast turns up with the X-Men and all X-related characters to usurp the mighty Pirate Thor

BISH BASH BOSH

and the X-Guys are all gone, seeing this the overlord Rich decrees that no more X-men will dirty his amazing collection but rather we will have

The Recorder
Swordsman
Bloodstone
the Asgardians
the Heralds

he also rubbishes any talk of the Duck

In my opinion, some of the humour, topics and language used in recent posts is out of place on this blog. To be perfectly honest, I don't understand why you don't use your facebook or twitter accounts for that type of non-CMFC chat. You often seem to mistake this blog for your private chatroom. C'mon, guys. Get a grip. This is an Eaglemoss blog dedicated to the CMFC and Marvel figurines. For everything else, surely we can use other websites?

LOL, Robert. Admittedly I am a bit fixated on subsets. But hey, at least they qualify eminently as an appropriate topic for this blog.

Who said we should post on here every day? If I don't have CMFC-related stuff to talk about, then I'm happy to refrain from posting. And that's my way, folks.

My new CMFC-related posts will follow soon.

LAWay said...

haha the blog is hit by the fun police enforced by K-Eyes.

My CMFC related discussion would be...how would you decide a sculpt/pose? With upcoming figurines named in the next extension, how do you want them to look like...or any previous characters represented, how SHOULD they have looked like?

-until a better cmfc related discussion rears its ugly head. ;)

I don't know...If it wasn't for the occasional bouts of aimless 'off-topic' chatter on here, I would never have heard Ted's joke about the bloke at the pub and the 20 quid...when I later told my wife the same joke, she really did LOL...

mighty_marvel said...

i don't think that was a joke.

that was just his friday night ;)

Thor8 said...

Off-topics are okay as far as I'm concerned, just as long as they stay within the topic of Marvel related themes. I like to joke around as much as the next guy,but I think I understand what K-eyes is referring to,and I agree. Sometimes people can get carried away and the foul language and certain "adult" insinuations can get out of hand.

And now to something of catastrophic proportions. What in the world happen to my icon in my posts? Mjst be Loki up to his dirty tricks.

Thor8 said...

HA! My evil step brother isn't the only one capable of preforming magic spells. One blackened eye and my posting icon returns.

My piles have nearly gone. Finished Kull and the Barbarians #1
Fantastic stuff Ross Andru, on the first story. The Severin siblings on the second and Gil Kanes Valley of the worm. It don't get any better.
In a manly way i'm gagging on some barbarian action in this collection. it's all spandex, looks like Ka-Zar will be the closest.Surely not all of Marvels barbarians have been Kulled?
( see what i did there?)

pirate adam said...

Sorry i must have missed Rich's post when he said that chat was not aloud, as far as i'm concerned i come on here to chat about Marvel and other things with my online pals and have been for allot longer than some people have been posting on here.

if you want my opinion, if you dont like it dont join in

Any chance Eaglemoss picks up the TopCow license? Characters such as the Darkness, Witchblade (sara pezzini and danielle baptiste), Angelus, Magdalena, Ian Nottingham, Kenneth Irons, RipClaw and Cyblade among others would look fantastic in lead figures!

BobDiamond said...

Ted, I envy your ownership of the legendary "Kull and the Barbarians"1. I am the proud owner of a mere issue 3- got a few of the old colour "Kull the Destroyer"s too.
It's the biggest shame of this entire collection that we can't have the likes of Conan, Red Sonya (it's the Marvel version 'invented' by Roy Thomas that Dynamite use anyway!!), King Kull and Solomon Kane. They would look MAGNIFICENT in this series.
Oh well, I'm hoping that we will get Killraven eventually, as a sort of sci-fi barbarian - he'd make an amazing figurine.
Unfortunately we'll probably have to wade through a ton of Z-list 'Young X-Men' or some such before that happens....moan, gripe etc....

BD

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Bob, i would love to see Killraven too, The cover to Amazing Adventures # 18 showing him with pistol in one hand and sword in the other looks sweet....Not sure if the original look is best, Thigh high booties with matching mankini...the saucy wee minx ;)

game time folks. If you could change or replace any characters already in this collect , who would they be and why ? You can change the costumes , identities , pose , or totally remove and replace for other characters. Examples : mystique - white costume instead. Bucky instead of winter soldier. Lose wasp and yellow jacket we don't need 2 wasps in the collection. Ant man and wasp made like dc's atom figurine would have been cool. Showing the size changing powers. Few examples there to start us off.

Anonymous said...

kang has to be the dullest looking figurine in this collection. Crappy pose. Needs more character. Could have at least added a small cape / slight improvement. Beast should have been ape like and about the same size as the thing figurine. One of the goblins on a glider would have been good. Just one captain marvel in the collection would've been nice. The recently added version with blonde flowing hair. The original addition could have been replaced by another cosmic like starfox , gamora or yondu perhaps.

Hawkeye said...

Given that some of the recent DC / Marvel figurines have had some dramatic poses showing them "flying" (Cannonball, John Stewart), I can't help feeling that the Human Torch figure was a missed opportunity here. That's one that could easily be re-done for me.

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

Winter Soldier may have Jaclyn Smith's hairdo fae Charlies Angels , but i think it's a cracking figurine.
For me, The Doc Ock fig aint the Doc,wee tubby bloke with nhs specs containing superthick bifocals, that's Otto.

mighty_marvel said...

the change i would do without hesitation is rogue to the 90s jim lee version. disappoints me so much that my all-time favourite marvel character is sat at the back of my x-men display instead of proudly at the front because of the poor choice of costume we got.

(incidentally, a jim lee era/animated series subset would correct so many of the wrong x-men costumes)

i'd also change movie iron man special for atlas and black spidey special for madame web. black spidey could have easily been done as a variant of normal red spidey. also, don't really like having phoenix rather than jean grey. would change it to jean in the green dress and yellow mask marvel girl costume or the 90s lim lee costume.

Jacadoo said...

OK - back to normality, just managed to get my statues all on display my CMFC all together for the first time in two years!!

So my collection is on display in all its glory from Sideshow through Bowen and the CMFC.

Thor8 have you seen the Mjolnir prop for display at local cinema's?

Tell me one is on the way to your collection.....

Also watch out for the extreemly limited edition Thor soon to be released by Sideshow - outstanding!!!

So Rich any chance of a movie tie in special?

Battle armour Thor and perhaps the real Destroyer?

Jacadoo said...

PAdam what ever happened to BOR?

Robert said...

Interesting ideas, guys. I liked Mr Smith's suggestion of exchanging Bucky for Winter Soldier best, closely followed by having only one Captain Marvel (the original, natch). Having said that, Smiffy's idea of a cape for Kang was a bit, well, odd. Can't remember him ever having one before!

P.S. Any chance of some photos of your shelf pron, Jacadoo?

I was just pondering, as is my wont, about specials, megas and subsets and reading some of the earlier posts about things like great moments and all that. I think I'd gladly sacrifice a special or two to have Spidey cradling the body of Gwen and the goblin flying around on his Vroom Broom as a nice big set.
Now I know removing specials, megas is a touchy subject so don't all throw 4 day old rolls at me, but it could just lead to a whole new direction and new collectors coming in and giving the collection a boost.

New EM 'Batman Automobilia'
Have you heard? EM have launched a new partwork dedicated to Batman vehicles. This is yet another DC Universe collection for DC fans, so I don't understand why it's only with Marvel subsets that EM has so many concerns about market saturation. What the heck!
I appreciate that car models will appeal to a slightly different audience, but c'mon! Enough with Batman and DC stuff already! I would prefer EM's production efforts to be dedicated to expanding on the Marvel Universe.
With Marvel subsets, of course. ;)

robert me ol' mucker , google images , search for kang. There is where i saw him with a small cape , if you could call it that. It only hangs down just below his elbows. Anyway guess my game wasn't very interesting being as someone decided to change the subject. P.s : i too will get some pictures up on here of my display in it's cabinet. Need another one for my dc + blackest night figurines , and a 3rd if we are lucky enough to get a 2000ad collection. Hint hint.
