Cloak and Dagger

Hello,

Sorry for the delay between posts, as always I've been very busy recently.

Last week we said goodbye to the designer on the DC Super Hero Collection, Gary Gilbert, who has decided to leave Eaglemoss and spend some time as a freelance designer. He'll be sorely missed here as he helped develop both the Marvel and DC figurine collections and was a great mate.

Stepping up and taking over from Gary will be the more-than-capable Colin, who has worked as part of Marvel and DC collections since the beginning.

Anyway, with that aside I have a quick update for you with some images of Cloak and Dagger in a near final state. We still have a few tweaks to make to the figure but this is essentially the final product.

As you can see we went for a joint base with Dagger stepping out of Cloak's dark portal. Although they don't always appear together in the comics, my feeling is that a sculpt such as this really shows off the symbiotic nature of the characters. After all, Dagger's light does 'feed' Cloak and they frequently travel/fight using Cloak's powers.

I hope you like it.

Next up I have the rough stage for Ant-Man. We've gone for an early version of Scott Lang's costume. This was chosen because it was the costume he wore from the beginning (inherited from Hank Pym) and also the one that appeared the most.

Right that's your lot, have a good weekend.

Wow, that was an early blog update today!

I'm happy with the way Cloak and Dagger have turned out so far even it's not final yet. I like the fact that you've got them on one base but yet we can still see most of Dagger instead of her being obscured by Cloak. It's a really nice dynamic pose.

Loving the detail on the Antman sculpt! It looks like you've used tiny little matchsticks to make the antennae =P

Also I guess thanks are in order to Gary and the work he's done on both collections up til now, and good luck shall be wished towards Colin!

It was a long delay but , never mind !;) Once again , great GREAT work !! Scott Lang'll be great and the duo too !Melting Cloak and Dagger is a really good idea .
Thanks again for the news Richard

The long delay was worth it and we all know how hard you guys work.

The preview pics look wonderful Dagger looks very pretty.

Now Rich bring on THE NEW MUTANTS for the next extension ;)

Banshee said...

Ant-man looks like he's going to be a great addition to the collection. I hate to say it but I'm not really sure I like Cloak and Dagger which for me is a major bummer as I've wanted these guys in the collection for a real long time :( However I'll wait to cast my judgement till I finally have them in my possession.

Now those guys have been shown the only question I have now is please please please can we cram some Alpha Flight into the next extension. A few New Mutants would also be awesome :)

Really love Cloak & Dagger :D Shows off both characters really well and it's a nice dynamic pose to well done to the sculptors!

Ant-Man looks awesome too and best costume choice :)

Gremlin said...

Have to say I love Cloak and Dagger. Both get their fair share of the base and Dagger looks awesome.
AntMan looks good too. Can't wait for both.

Wow! I`m lovin the Cloak & Dagger figurine, it`s always good to see a change. I`m one of the few people who really loved the Abomination special base, so I hope there will always be room for a little creativity in the future.

you guys are spoiing me, just arrived home to find my latest figurines and now this early update . i've just noticed these mags must be the the the ones with the lower page count and lower quality paper although the difference is negligible and the main thing is the quality of the figs is still excellent.
my hobgoblin fig has chipped paintwork bad news for me good news for my nephew, every time he comes to visit the first thing he asks is if i have any chipped figs he now has 16 . i'm glad i quit smoking this is getting expensive

Ryan Maxwell said...

I totally love Ant-Man! Well done, the perfect costume choice. Cloak and Dagger are very nice. I'm glad you decided to experiment and put both on one base. It's always good to push yourself in new directions once in a while. Great job again, EM!

ghost said...

I've just received my monthly dose of Marvel and what can I say that hasn't been said already...

WOW.

Not only are Hobgoblin and Baron Zemo two of the best figures so far (excellent pose, fine detail, well painted and no chips!) but we get a glimpse of things to come, and Cloak and Dagger look fanstic.

Even Antman looks good, and I'm not even a fan of the Avengers.

Keep up the excellent work.

Anonymous said...

I have to say I'm loving the look of ant man in fact i like the look of him more than cloak and dagger. I think he has more "WOW" factor than they do which is a shame because i was expecting "WOW" from them in whatever form you desided. Still once again brill updates :)

And if we are listing our "Ok, great, but now i want...."s lets have PETE WISDOM in the next extention. cheers ;)

Not bad,Cloak & Dagger looks promising.Needs a bit of something!

I love Ant Man,he looks good alredy im so looking forward to him!

pippin gold said...

Cloak and Dagger looks a very good sculpt and better than I had hoped for..also liking Scott Lang who looks very detailed and a great costume choice :)

mtravis390 said...

Antman looks great. I like Dagger as well. Cloak looks a little stiff, but his face looks really good.

Is there a reason that Dagger doesn't have the white circle around her right eye? Was it overlooked or did EM decide not to use it?

Jacadoo said...

Although I do not read Cloak and Dagger they look fantastic - I have been waiting for Ant Man all I have to say is excellent choice of costume!!!!!!

Received Nemo and Hob Gob today - the paint work on them is just superb (sorry Ted).

Just one question how long is Zabu and the cloak and dagger base (front to back) - does anybody know?

I am having cabinets made to house my collection and need to decide on width of shelves - any help would be appriciated - come on Grim please share your wisdom.

when i said in my previous entry that my nephew now has 16 slightly damaged figs i did not mean to insinuate that these were all the fault of em sending me damaged goods . the vast majority of damaged figs in my collection were caused by my idiotic attempt to move a fully laden plinth, but i have in all honesty received maybe 3 or 4 flaky paint jobs in the past, considering i now have over 130 figs i can live with that.
how about angar the screamer for issue # 299 ?

jimbob said...

I think Cloak looks stiff because Dagger is in a action stance.

If Cloak could have a bit more movement to him, both figs will complement each other better.

i think you are being very optomistic with asking for 22 of the various types of special edition

although i like your lists i dont see this collection going past 160 at the most as they have already stared to kill it of by reducing the magazine size (my opinion)which is a shame

not to fussed about the preview figs the one i am waiting for is Beta Ray Bill he looked awsome.

You have to have optimism Pirate Adam. Once we weather this recession then we should be back on track. I am still hoping we hit the 200 mark as there are still a lot of my favourite characters yet to be made.

Back on the subject of Cloak and Dagger I noticed EM have gone with Cloak's modern look of no stripes. I have to say I would have preferred the blue and black striped Cloak just to make him stand out a bit more.

jimbob said...

Maybe if Cloak had arms would make a diffrence. His head looks like its just floating.

And nasia you have got alot of specials in your list.I think its 5each year!

Would be nice if we could have more specials a year.

Holy Wolf said...

I wouldn't worry too much about the CMFC coming to an end anytime soon, especially when you consider the fact the original LotR collection is still going on even though it's only available in the UK and it's not possible to start a new subscription to it anymore. (Out of interest does anyone know if their issues were reduced and altered in terms of paper quality?)

Seeing the fact the CMFC is doing phenomenally well, is sold on a worldwide market with much better marketing and has a much better selection of characters I can easily see this collection (and the DC one) going to 200+.

The recession should in fact support the CMFC, as EM are more likely to depend on their 'proven hits' for income rather than trying to develop new product lines.

so let's keep the optimism going! =)

mighty_marvel said...

just a quick question for everyone. with there being so many wants for various specials (doubles, regulars and megas), do you think the current rate of about 5 a year enough? would people like to see them more often, and if so how regularly would you like to see them?

prsonally i think that as we get 26 normal issues per year, specials could be done after every 4th normal issue. this would give us 6 or 7 special issues per year.

spidey_1979 said...

not sure if ted sallis saw my post from last time about bloodstone but i also think he'd make a worthy addition to the line-up, he has about 10000 years of history after all, so no problem filling a mag! also, if they do introduce some monsters into the collection, you can't have monsters without the monster hunter. good opportunity for a double pack of ulysses and elsa too.

i'd like some extra specials per year. 6/7 sounds about right to me. would be out reasonably regularly while still remanining affordable. and if it means we get madame web that little bit sooner i'm all for it

A_Jay said...

thanks for the pics of cloak and dagger. is looking good but agree with others that cloak needs something extra.

on the subject of special issues. if you average it out specials have been coming out roughly after every 7 normal mags. wouldn't mind it being increased so they were out on average after every 5. there's alot of important larger characters yet to be done and specials at the current rate are unlikely to satisfy everyones wants

pirate adam said...

i would be happy with a couple of extra specials per year, you guys must spend alot of time making up these lists and to be honest i find them quite interesting (JJJ and Howard the Duck aside) i am however to lazy to make a big list so i will just make one for specials :-

REGULAR --
ODIN (or mega if possible)
HELA
MADAME WEB
RED HULK (not quite yet needs more story)
SASQUATCH
TERRAX
SAURON

DOUBLES--
NORTHSTAR/AURORA
PYRO/AVALANCH
ENCHANTRESS/EXECUTIONER
TOMBESTONE/HAMMERHEAD

MEGAS--
LIVING TRIBUNAL
FIN FANG FOOM
ONSLAUGHT
SURTUR
CELESTIAL

you may notice i have excluded BLOB that was intentional because i think hes POO!!

Pirate Adam

Miguel Angel Jiminez said...

couldn't agree more with spidey 1979 ulysses and elsa bloodstone should be strong candidates for a double pack at some point.
with the fan base this collection has, i would be amazed if we didn't reach at least 200

mighty_marvel said...

the most time consuming part about making the lists is not coming up with the characters, it's trimming it down afterwards! very tricky thing deciding who warrants a place over somebody else

jimbob said...

I think we could easily get 6 specials into this collection next year.

7 specials a year would be a bounus!!

There are so many excellent specials out there that need to be in this collection.

jimbob said...

Here are my most wanted specials1

Blob
Sasquatch
Omega Red
Lockjaw
MODOK
Odin
Onslaught
Wendigo
Strong Guy
Giant-Man
Ch'od
Destroyer
Atlas
Executioner
Ronan the Accuser
Warpath
Sauron

Most of these guys are 7" and over and should be made as specials.

my choices of females would be

silver sable
wolfsbane
callisto
mantis
frankie raye
sif
nico minoru
sersi
crimson cowl
songbird

and a madame web special

I think when it comes to good female characters the X-Men group leads the field in having the best characters overall. The X-men has always had very good female characters both good and evil.

My top most wanted women are....

Wolfsbane
Domino
Magik
Dani Moonstar
Sage
Deathbird
Callisto
Dust
Magma
Siryn
Destiny

If I have to pick females outside of the x-group theres only really 5 I really care about seeing thay are....

Songbird
Photon
Darkstar
Nico Minoru
Firestar

mighty_marvel said...

as good as the female x-men characters are EM will not put loads of them in one extension. thats why you might as well suggest females from other areas.

if rich uses suggestions on here to help decide extension line-up, we'll get a better selection if people give requests from right across the MU

My female hopes for the next extension are:-

SONGBIRD - Thunderbolts

DEATHBIRD - Cosmic

DESTINY - Brotherhood

Antman is exactly how he should be.

Marvel has so many gr8 women characters and theres loads left that could be done. My top five females I really want in my cabinet are ~

1) SAGE (I agree that she should be in her xtreme x-men costume).

I want some New Mutants so my next three pics are coming from that group.

2) Magik
3) Danielle Moonstar aka Mirage
4) Magma (In her Magma form)

5) Domino (she seems to be a hot property at the moment with her been in the new x-men cartoon prominently and also in uncanny x-men and x-force comic books. I would want her in her modern costume though.

I really do welcome more female characters in the series as there are many good ladies left to add. Five of my most wanted are >>>>>>>

* Darkstar
* Photon/Pulsar
* Sage
* Magik
* Wolfsbane

I really want to see some of the New Mutants done and more Brotherhood members > Destiny, Avalanche and Toad.

whats with all the x-men related ladies. you'd think there weren't any elsewhere in the MU. as nearly all x-women i'd want have been mentioned multiple times, heres some other females who deserve a mention.

1) madame web

2) sif

3) nico (runaways)

4) maya lopez (ronin)

5) nova (frankie raye)

6) clea

7) arachne

8) hela

Well, finally someone who feels like I do raised his voice to be heard! I agree with you A_Jay. Let's see other females from other branches of the Marvel U along with the X-girls. Haven't you been listening to Mighty-Marvel. It's highly inprobable that EM is going to base all of thier female candidates for any given extension based on just one specific branch of the Marvel U, so you'll have a better chance of getting more of your suggestions accepted if you vary your choices amoung other areas.

My choices are the following;

1)Photon-Avengers
2)Thundra-Fanastic Four
3)Songbird-Thunderbolts
4)Sersi-Eternals
5)Darkstar-Soviet Supersoldiers
6)Firestar-New Warriors
7)Mirage-New Mutants
8)Arachne-Avengers

Double pack:
Aurora/Nothstar-Alpha Flight

Special: Madame Web-Spider-Man

Thier you have a little bit for most everyone.(and there's still more to choose from)

I think 8 females in the next extension would do nicely. Keep the ratio with that of the MU...here are some suggestions...

Spiral
Photon
Rachel grey/Marvel Girl
Hela
Firestar
Typhoid Mary
Songbird
Wolfsbane

Give me those lasses and I will be very happy

Guys, lets dont forget Silver Sable!

...and where are Viper/Madame HYDRA?

asura said...

Only female I really want are Spiral and Magik !!!
Oh and I forgot Ares...what? He is not a female? ;)

Banshee said...

If we had to pick just 5 ladies for the next extension I'd go for:-

Spiral
Moonstone
Arachne
Domino
Deathbird

S.H.I.E.L.D boy Viper/Madame Hydra has already made the cut. She's issue no 114. At least I think it's her. Anyone know for sure?

spidey_1979 said...

agree with suggestions of hepzibah and deathbird in a couple of places but anybody else think they would make good double packs of

hepzibah/corsair
deathbird/vulcan

Miss Medusa said...

The Viper confirmed is Madamme Hyra ;)

Love your double pack suggestions Spidey_1979

Corsair & Hepzibah and Deathbird & Vulcan would be great choices.

I would also love a Brotherhood double pack of The Blob & Destiny.

Thanks guys!
Cannot wait to see the first images of Madame HYDRA.

Hi. First I would say that the figures are just amazing. But in my country are not very easy to find for sale. :(
Then I make a question: The figures are cast in Lead, the material cause any health problems for people?

Best regards.

Thor8 said...

Luis.C.B.C; The lead from which the figurines are made of will cause health problems if you chew on them instead of gum,or mix them in your cereal. Seriously though, if you just place them for display (out of the reach of children)or store them in a safe place you should have no problems whatsoever.

Now on a different note; Rich, Isn't it high time your main site was updated? I mean it's been forever since the last update was preformed!

Cloak and Dagger look pretty amazing here, and the poses seem quite organic as well. I'm sorry that some of your upcoming figurines are not similarly sculpted as 2-character specials or two-packs -- I have a bunch of Union Jack and Black Knight figures, busts, and statues, so a Union Jack/Spitfire magazine or a Black Knight/Excalibur issue would have offered something unique and given us great female characters who probably won't rate inclusion in any future extension.

Oh well, I'll look forward to what is offered, and I'll join Jayms in hoping that Pete Wisdom makes any future cut. Thanks for the update!

jimbob said...

pete wisdom for the next extension please!

Banshee said...

Spidey_1979 I love your suggestions of double-packs but I don't think were likley to see them in the next extension as we only get two double-packs per year and I'm guessing that the next double confirmed will be Aurora/Northstar or at least I'm hoping it is :). I'd love a Corsair/Hepzibah double to make up the second annual slot. I think Deathbird and Vucan could carry an issue on there own, so lets hope they both make the next extension too :).

Killer Frost said...

Corsair and Hepzibah would make a stunning double pack i agree!

Then the option is always there to do a Ch'od and Raza double some time down the line to complete the Starjammers.

I really like the idea of a Blob and Destiny Double pack suggested by Ms Medusa. Blob and Toad was suggested by Rich but Toad could easily have a regular issue on his own but then again so could Destiny.

I just think a Blob and Destiny double pack would rock!

My top most wanted women are

Ha ha ha! So....

Firestar
Silver Sable
Typhoid Mary
Mary Jane
Aunt May

S.H.I.E.L.D boy said...

Yeah,
We demand a Silver Sable figurine!

jimbob said...

I reckon that Blob should be a double pack with another Brotherhood of evil mutants member in next year special list !
It should be with either Avalanche,Destiny or my favourite choice Toad!

Thor8 said...

How is it that everytime a new subject is brought up it manages somehow to end up mentioning either Blob or Pyro, sheeesh!
I doubt Blob will be inclueded in a double pack due to the extra amoumt of lead needed for his girth. When he's done it most likely will be as a regular special.

jimbob said...

Maybe

I think that a special and a regular double pack would cost around £14.99 or £15.99.

It was Richard that suggested this so it might just happen!

Blob and Toad
Sasquatch and Puck

Helo everybody! I live at Brazil and two of my CMFC (Scarlet Witch and Iceman) fall into the groung and the pain broke a little, especially on their legs. I would like to paint myself to try if that works. That´s my question: what is the paint used on those figures? I know nothing about painting, so this will be a major help! Thankx in advance!!!

Thor8 said...

Guilherme; You can use various types of paint to repair or touch up your damaged figurines. If you take them to a local hobby or arts and crafts shop they will most likely help you pick out the most suitable one for your needs.

Rich I must insist that it's time to really update your main site, and while you're at it I think you should place a new Post here as well. Maybe that will awaken everyone who seems to have fallen asleep. It's been four days since someone last placed a comment.

Thor8 said...

Oh,by the way Guilherme, when you paint your figurines try using a brush that has very soft thin bristles so they won't leave streak marks!

Jacadoo said...

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz oh somebody made a post - my old mate Thor8...

Come on Rich I've got to echo the sentiment from Asgard, I think we deserve some level of update give our continued loyalty in these tough times!!

Perhaps people would leave a comment if they thought it was worth it!

C'mon Rich - You're website is soooooo out of date and you're updates are rarer than a superhero staying dead.

I check this site out frequently but it's getting about as useful as grimms! (sorry Grim)

it would be a shame if this forum went the way of the dodo but it's most appealing aspect at the start was the genuine interaction you had with the creators of this collection ,we even had a say in the collection itself.
as i may have said before , it was this level of interactivity that made this blog so enjoyable.
this is in no way a slight against rich he does a wonderfull job .
quite apart from the lack of answers to faq's .the lack of an update on the main site is puzzling.
i still think a video blog could be great let us vote on a shortlist of upcoming figs be it omega red, clea or whoever then let us see it being created from concept sketch to the finished article, do marvel ever reject your concept sketches? or suggest alterations? all this and more could be covered .
how about a retro movie special? i just saw the batman/ batcycle fig it makes me yearn for a fig of ghost rider on his classic chopper.
any hoo enuff of my nonsense .
c'mon rich more regular updates and bring back that real sense of involvement collectors had with this series.

Sure hope I'll be seeing an update later on today on this blog (right now as I write this comment it's 7:10 a.m. Here in the carribean).
I totally agree with Ted about the interaction between the ceative team and the fans in this blog. It would be nice if more answers to our inquiries were given and if feedback and comments were made by the EM gang on suggestions and ideas submitted by the fans.
Here's a question I'd like to see answered in your next comments section; Will we be seing soon any new articles or changes in the mag previously mentioned?

Will i be able to catch up?
Startd buying 1 through to 10 initially to catch up...
Antman is perfect.
Cloak and dagger are great but dagger looks older than I remember...I'm sure with a bit of concealer she'll be fine.
I want to catch up with everyone else!!!!
